Reviewed Jul 13, 2026A lovely character property with amazing views. Very clean and comfortable. Nicely remote within the Catlins but with access to Tokanui within 20 minutes and to Bluff within an hour. Excellent stay.

If there would be a thing, perhaps slightly lower pillows (!) but that is about it!

Reviewed May 26, 2026Wir waren in einer kalten und verregneten Zeit dort. Heizlüfter war ganz schwach. Bad war kalt. Schränke haben muffig, feucht gerochen. Kein einziger Haken zum Kleidung aufhängen. Wir haben uns nicht wohl gefühlt.

There is no sound proofing in the walls at all they are just empty We were just whispering to each other As we heard everything next room people was talking- not to mention the Loud television of next door No cooking facilities No wash basin in Kitchen Hot water system was terrible ( room temperature was 5 degrees!!)

Could do with more sound proofing between the apartments as could hear the TV from next door. This was only minor though. The rest of the facilities made up for it.

Noise between the adjacent room was pretty unpleasant. It’s an internal wall separating the accomodations, clearly just swap seats rooms in an exisiting house (rather than an insulated separate lodgings), which could be ok if people are advised to be quiet.

Reviewed Mar 13, 2026Unterkunft mit Meerblick, wenn das Wasser da ist 😄. Das Zimmer war weiträumig und komfortabel eingerichtet. Der Kontakt zum Vermieter läuft komplett digital Es gibt keine Essens- und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten in der Nähe, dafür sehr ruhige Gegend.
Die Unterkunft war sehr hellhörig, nur durch Verbindungstür von der angrenzenden Unterkunft getrennt. Die Parkplatzsituation ist unübersichtlich und mit max drei Pkw ausgereizt.

It's a shame a bit more thought was not given to the design of the bathroom. Another 20cm in width would mean you could have a decent sized vanity. Was manageable, though, for a short term stay.

The shortage of space to cook, prepare and to unpack belongings. There are very few facilities to do anything. The hob had to be plugged in and took up most of the preparation space. The bed is also soft so that it was difficult to be comfortable.

Reviewed Feb 8, 2026Gute Lage mit Blick auf die Bucht. Schlüssel über Keybox. Guter Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge in die Catlins. Die Zimmer selbst sind eher einfach eingerichtet, aber, es ist alles da, was man braucht. Die Verfügbarkeit von Netflix war ein absolutes Highlight.
Nicht sehr sauber. Wir mussten Geschirr nachspülen und auch im Bad nachreinigen, so war z.B. noch abgestandenes Zahnputzwasser im Zahnputzbecher. Parkplatzsituation unschön. Es gibt eigentlich ausreichend Platz, aber man weiss nicht, wie man parken soll. Hier wäre es gut Parkplätze einzurichten. Wir hatten das Zimmer unten, direkt an der Treppe und der Schlüsselbox, somit auch viel Besuch vor unserem Zimmer. Da die Betten direkt am Fenster stehen fühlte man sich etwas in der Privatsphäre eingeschränkt. Zudem hört man jedes Schrittgeräusch von der oberen Wohnung, was schon eine größere Lärmbelästigung ist. Die Bilder auf der Seite sind überwiegend von den oberen Apartments. Ich denke, im Komfort und Ausstattung sind diese besser. Badezimmer ohne Heizung. Auf der Seite wird "Waschmaschine" angegeben. Wir hatten keine, habe auch keine zentral verfügbare gesehen - vielleicht verfügen die oberen Apartments darüber.

Reviewed Jan 26, 2026Fantastic view from the top Balcony in room three. Main room contained the bed, dresser, table with a couple of chairs. Small off set kitchen had a fridge with freezer section. Microwave, kettle and toaster. Utensils, dishes and plates. Beautiful area to stay.
Can be a little noisy with people in the adjoining family unit. The family staying next to us were very mindful of the fact and did not cause any excess noise.

We were in Apartment 1 and the ceilings are very low. Parking would be a problem if all units were occupied. There was noise coming from the upstairs apartment with people walking around. We stayed 2 nights, would only recommend for 1 night.

Very spacious, very comfortable and well appointed including access to a washing machine and drier. Quiet, stunning setting by the estuary and felt really at home. Well set up for kids/families.

Weak shower pressure but did get nice and hot. As noted the area is a bit secluded - so was a bit of a struggle getting food especially as we visited during a low season (they did warn us of this at least!) Overall very good stay and would recommend and stay again.

The owners warn you ahead of time that there is NOTHING nearby for dinner out. There are a couple of cafes open during the day. Just go prepared. Needs better signage of where to park, as not obvious or clear.

The bird song so beautiful altho noisy on the roof but not a negative comment. Great amenities provided. Lovely deck to sit & enjoy the view & so close to Curio Bay - a must visit!! If a family went, adjoining 3 & 4 is possible & fantastic space! Great wee food truck very nearby as a must for Kiwi fish n chips!!

Reviewed Oct 24, 2025The stay could have been great but the storm meant there was no electricity and as a result no water except what was in the hot water cylinder and we didn’t want to risk emptying that! We did have a lovely candlelit evening of salad, wine, anda game of cards though!!
We hated having to leave the place a mess but couldn’t even flush the toilet - so sorry about that. Thank you for a secure ( tho cold and dark!) refuge from the wind and rain.
