Toraja Sanggalangi Homestay

We had breakfast each day (stayed for a week) and it was great, omellete, eggs, fruit, pancakes, fried rice - plenty to choose from. We were asked each evening what we wanted and what time. Although Rantepao is a bit cooler than the rest of Sulawesi, the rooms were still pretty hot during the evening although cooled down in the early morning, we asked for and were given a fan so that helped. It was great to have the large upstairs communal area with free tea and coffee and water refill. It felt super safe, was just a few minutes walk to the town centre and various sights to see etc. There's a fridge onsite too with beer and soft drinks for sale at good prices.

We did feel the owner was a tad pushy to be our guide, he was knowledgeable for sure but we just didn't really 'gel' with him. Maybe just a personality mismatch.

El personal es muy amable, sobretodo la señora que regenta el homestay, ofrecen de todo, desayuno, cena, transporte, lavandería, motos para alquilar, guia por tana toraja, etc. La cama es amplia y cómoda y el sitio está muy limpio. Ligeramente alejado de la carretera principal, no hay ruido.

Homestay exceptionnel. Un lieu paisible et reposant, chambres spacieuses et très confortables, avec terrasse privée agréable. Cuisine excellente, jus de fruits maison qui vous attendent au retour de vos visites. Peso et son épouse sont aux petits soins pour tous : conseils de visites et de treks, prêt de scooters, service de blanchisserie, ils nous ont même conduit au bus. Vous pouvez y aller les yeux fermés.

La familia completa se esfuerzan por facilitar la estancia y todo lo q pudiéramos necesitar. La atención de Anastasia y Peso es espectacular. Los desayunos están riquísimos! Además, él también es guía en Toraja.

Anastasia und Peso sind die besten Gastgeber, die man sich wünschen kann! Wir können nur empfehlen, die Touren zu den Begräbnisritualen etc. mit Peso zu machen. Wir haben schon sehr viele Tourguides kennengelernt, und Peso gehört definitiv zu den besten, die wir je hatten. Er erklärt unglaublich viel, kennt alle Hintergründe und teilt bereitwillig sei ganzes Wissen. Anastasia kümmert sich so liebevoll um ihre Gäste, als gehörten sie zur Familie. Sie bringt einen überall hin, hat sogar meine kaputte Bauchtasche genäht und an ihrem Geburtstag ein großes Essen für alle Gäste veranstaltet. Wir hatten ein schönes helles Zimmer im ersten Stock, das einfach, aber völlig ausreichend ausgestattet war. Für umgerechnet 2 Euro gibt es Frühstück, das immer einen Teller Obst, sowie entweder Pancakes, Toast mit Rührei, gebratenen Reis oder Omelett und Tee oder Kaffee beinhaltet. Trinkwasserspender gibt es auch. Die Lage ist nicht ganz im Zentrum, aber nahe genug, dass man laufen kann (oder man nimmt ein Tuk Tuk). Ein Laundry-Service wird ebenfalls angeboten. Wir haben uns in der Unterkunft super wohlgefühlt und würden jederzeit wieder dort übernachten.

Natürlich ist es kein Sternehotel, aber für den Preis gibt es absolut nichts zu bemängeln!

Super homestay, grande chambre et salle d’eau avec eau chaude. Superbe vue sur les montagnes, bonne literie, très propre. Petit déjeuner délicieux et copieux. Nous avons pu louer un scooter sur place au prix de 100k roupies par jour.

Nombreux coqs mais assez habituel en Asie. Vis à vis très proche des chambres situées sur le côté avec le bâtiment voisin, qui nous oblige à garder les rideaux tirés. Mais la région est si belle que rester dans sa chambre n'est pas la priorité !

Peso and Anastasia are great hosts and absolutely lovely! The food is excellent and the provided tours were really informative and gave a great insight on the culture. The rooms are clean and have very comfortable beds. The helped me buy bus tickets, arrange drivers and took me to the bus station when i left for the next stop on my journey through sulawesi! I will definetly bring my future wife next time for honeymoon ;)

Die Gastgeber dieser Unterkunft haben mir Decke und Polster und eine Couch zu Verfüfung gestellt als ich mit dem Nachtbus um 05:00 in Toraja angekommen bin. Das war sehr nett. Generell waren sie sehr bemüht um unser Wohlbefinden. Die Unterkunft war seht gut ausgestattet und sauber. Die Zimmer sind groß und hell.

Nous avions une super chambre avec une vue magnifique sur la ville et les collines, baignées par la brume du matin , extraordinaire! Le petit dej sous la terrasse couvert est extra!

The room was great, with nice windows and a comfortable bed. A good shower. Outdoor terraces on the ground floor and first floor. Anastasia was very friendly and helpful.

I highly recommend to do your research before booking any tours through this accommodation. If you read through the more critical reviews, a pattern emerges: the prices Peso charges are intransparent, his organization is chaotic and unreliable, he pressures guests to go on his tours, and he charges everyone different (and highly elevated) prices. An October 2025 review describes nearly the exact same thing that happened to me. Not only was I grossly overcharged, I was then accused of being “a problem” and “difficult” when a fellow traveler and I brought this up. Peso also told me and this fellow traveler to “stop speaking to other guests about what they paid, it ruins the atmosphere.” Wow. So, having been forbidden to speak, let me put some facts in writing and at least do my part for more transparency: Peso originally wanted to charge me 200€ for three days of activities, including cultural site and market visits (Day 1), a funeral ceremony and associated events (Day 2) and four to five hours of trekking through hills and rice fields (Day 3). This is way out of proportion for Indonesia. Also, transportation wouldn’t even have been by car, rather by motorcycle. Lunch was not included except on Day 3. The price did not (!) change once several more people joined my group — some of whom were paying the same high amount (solo travelers), others less (couples: half the price). I spoke up and opted out of Day 3 at this price point. Peso begrudgingly reduced the rate for Day 1 and 2 to 50 EUR respectively. I spoke to people at other homestays who paid 70€ PER CAR UP TO FOUR PEOPLE. So one fourth (!) of what Peso had originally wanted to charge me. In conclusion, please look out for yourself especially if you’re a solo (female) traveler and do your research! Happy to say that this was the only highly unpleasant interaction I had in three weeks of otherwise very friendly and spectacular Sulawesi travels…

Un hébergement hyper agréable. les propriétaires sont très chaleureux. Les chambres spacieuses, propres, la douche est réglable ! Petit déjeuner succulent et copieux. La terrasse où on petit déjeune est très agréable. La propriétaire est une excellente cuisinière. Elle propose des repas qu'il faut commander avant. Ils paraissent un peu chers pour le pays, mais ça a été notre meilleur repas au pays toraja. Je recommande vraiment.

Wir haben dort 3 Tage verbracht, um die Kultur der Toraja näher kennenzulernen. Peso war ein toller Guide und seine Frau hat sich rührend um uns gekümmert. Die Zimmer sind schlicht, aber schön und ausreichend groß. Frühstück und Abendessen waren immer sehr lecker und sehr reichlich. Der Service war insgesamt super. Wir haben die Tage dort sehr genossen und haben immer Unterstützung bekommen, wenn wir etwas brauchten. Wir können diese Unterkunft nur wärmstens empfehlen. Und ohne Guide ist man in der Region aufgeschmissen, denn Peso wusste immer, wo es an welchem Tag etwas zu entdecken gab.

My room was above the kitchen so the water pump was noisy at times.

The Sanggalangi Homestay is extremely well run by Peso and his lovely wife Anastasia. The cost v quality of the rooms is excellent, there's hot water and the breakfasts are lovely (especially the coffee!!). It's also near a lovely cafe (the Kaana Coffee shop) in dusty Rantepao. We took a 3 day private trip with Peso and saw utterly fascinating sights and met some wonderful people. Things are understandably fairly fluid in Tana Toraja, but with a little patience you get to witness one of the most fascinating cultures you're ever likely to come across.

Just be aware that in high season Peso has to juggle guests and guides and transport options. Be firm with what you want and are expecting. Sometimes others were asked to take motorbikes when they''d booked a car, but to be fair they were fine with that. We travelled by private car for 3 days and had no issues.

Chambre très confortable et propre. Les parties communes sont agréables. Le petit déjeuner est délicieux. Il y a la possibilité de louer un scooter pour se promener aux alentours de Rantepao. J'ai eu l'occasion d'aller à une cérémonie d'enterrement avec le propriétaire. Il m'a aussi conseillé plusieurs sites à visiter dans la région, c'était très appréciable ! Le homestay est très proche du centre ville mais au calme.

We liked everything. The owner and his wife are really helpful and nice people, they helped to organize everything, they even took us to the bus station. The rooms are clean and comfortable, we had a great view of the mountains. It's also at a good location.

Amazing service by Peso and his wife Anastasia, they organized everything that we needed and made sure we felt at home. The rooms are spacious, clean and the beds are very comfy. We'd love to come back someday!

Very friendly owners, helped us with the renting of a scooter. Also possibility to do a tour based on your wishes. Nice clean room, warm shower, located closely to supermarket and restaurants. I got a food poisoning, the owners wife took really good care of me (gave food and medecine), checked up on me regularly. Truly felt like home.

Nice homestay and the the hosts were fantastic. Just bare in mind that this is not a luxury property and the price per night reflects this. But...the hospitality, service, and help exceeds expectations.

This homestay could benefit by being much more transparent about the costs for different service offerings. At times it was difficult to get a clear answer on what something was going to cost and we don’t think guests should need to guess or ask everytime. Just put up a pricelist in the common area outlining the services you provide with a cost structure attached. This would make a big difference.

Ich hatte einen super Aufenthalt im Songgalangi Homestay. Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit, sie hatten für mich tolle Touren organisiert, den Bus reserviert und sich super um mich umsorgt. Die Zimmer sind einfach und sauber eingerichtet.

Linda est très gentille, serviable et disponible. Ambiance familiale. Un super coin détente avec des canapés et des coussins. C'est rare. Linda aide ses clients à organiser leurs visites, leur arrivée et leur départ. Elle loue aussi des scooters a un prix très raisonnable. Pour notre part, sans son aide, ça aurait été beaucoup plus compliqué. Un grand merci !

Peso en Anestasia zijn geweldige lieve en zorgzame mensen . Anestasia staat altijd klaar voor haar gasten en kan ontzettend lekker koken . Tuan Peso is een geweldige gids , soms praat hij iets teveel 😀 Het viel me zwaar om weg te gaan want het was een thuis ver van huis.

Anastasia et Peso sont de super hôtes, accueillants et aux petits soins. La chambre est d'une propreté irréprochable. Nous avons un balcon avec une superbe vue. La salle de bain est top et avec eau chaude. Calme absolu. Possibilité de prendre les repas, Anastasia cuisine très bien. Possibilité de faire laver vie linge, de louer un scooter et de faire des visites avec Peso qui parle anglais. Nous n'étions venus que pour 2 nuits et nous y sommes restés 6 . Tout est parfait, on recommande à 200%.

Very nice and comfortable homestay at a very good location. The Bus from Massakar can drop you off within 2 min walking distance from the homestay. The rooms are clean and they have very nice and comfortable place to eat lunch or just chill. The owners are very friendly and even booked the bus and droped me at the bus station when I was leaving. You can eat breakfast and dinner at the homestay which is very delicous, wash your clothes and rent motorbikes. All in all I definetly would come back!

ein wunderbares homestay. mir hat es sehr gut gefallen. es fehlte an nichts. ich wurde rührend und reichlich kulinarisch umsorgt. das zimmer und das haus war sehr sauber, das bett bequem, der service überdurchschnittlich. die lage perfekt. sehr ruhig und doch in fussnähe zur stadt. bei fragen wurde mir sofort geholfen. die umfsngreichen, diversen kulturellen aspekte und plätze wurden mir mit viel geduld und raum für fragen ausführlich und verständlich nahegebracht. einfach rundum klasse! danke euch von ganzem herzen Peso und Anastasia

Comment se fait-il qu'il y ai près de la moitié des commentaires faits par des français ? Si vous les lisez, vous allez vous rendre compte que ce sont des "fake", car ils sont irréalistes et donnent presque tous une note de 10... C'est cher payé pour un établissement quoi vaut moins que 1 !! Lorsque j'ai mentionné que j'allais signalé cet établissement à booking.com, on a voulu me rembourser pour que je ne le fasse pas ! Option refusée ! Avant de venir ici, lisez les plus mauvais commentaires, ce sont les seuls réalistes !

Lovely guests and very nice room with beautiful terrasse and nice view! Breakfast is very good with good choice, beds are really comfortable and they have scooters to rent Hosts will do anything to help you, from showing you around to booking bus tickets and driving you to the bus station! I could even check in at 6am when coming from the Macassar bus, very understanding and lovely guests!

Danke an den Hausherren Mr. Peso für das toll organisierte Ausflugsprogramm (Begräbnisstätten, Wasserbüffelmarkt, eine Begräbniszeremonie Wanderung......) Soviele Eindrücken die ich sammeln konnte. Nur z.B. -nach einer ganztägigen und anstrengenden Wanderung (mit Führer) in den Bergen wurden wir von den Mr. Peso und seiner Frau am Endpunkt mit dem Auto abgeholt und es gab eine kleine Jause und frisches Trinken im Auto. Gutes Essen im Homestay....

Zimmer sind basic aber ok, aber auch hier - ich lebe nicht gerne aus dem Rucksack warum keine Ablageflächen

Accueil absolument extraordinaire par Peso et Anastasia ! Verre de bienvenue, petites attentions dans l'après-midi douceurs, jus de fruits frais très très bon repas (trop copieux !) Vraiment une adresse exceptionnelle et très bien placée, on peut rejoindre le centre ville à pied sans problème en 10 à 15 mns. Belle chambre (N7) avec vue sur la ville et les alentours et plutôt calme, nous sommes en Asie vous entendrez des coqs c'est incontournable ! En 50 ans de voyage une de mes meilleures adresses ! Tout simplement ! N'hésitez surtout pas à vous rendre chez Pesa et Anastasia encore merci à eux deux et à leur équipe.

The hospitality by Anastasia was amazing. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and prepared at the times we requestef. In the afternoon she prepared a yummy juice with cake. If we were not there she would keep it in the fridge until our return. The dinners were also good. There were other eating places just at bottom of the hill too. The room was large clean and very comfortable.

It was all good.

We arrived early in the morning by nightbus and we were lucky that the previous guests already checked out, so we could occupy our room immediately. It was spacious, good bed and hot water to shower. No airco but the fan was good enough to sleep with. The food was really good. We did a 3-day tour organised by the owner Peso. On day 1 and 3, he showed us around the important sights and explained a lot about the Toraja culture. On day 2, together with guide Leo, we did a very beautiful mountain hike where we passed a lot of Tongkonan villages and ricefields. Congrats to both guides! On the day we left, I woke up sick. Peso’s wife was very sweet and helpful and gave me some medication to survive the long busride. We felt very welcome by this family and really recommend this place to stay.

De vrouw (eigenaresse) van de homestay is erg vriendelijk. Het eten is heerlijk maar absurd veel waardoor de helft altijd weer terug gaat. Advies: serveer minder eten en maak het eten goedkoper (nu 100k, wat vrij veel is)

Ik geef niet vaak een slechte review maar door de manier waarop Peso met zijn prijzen als gids omgaat kan ik echt niet anders dan een slechte review te schrijven. Ik wil andere gasten hiervoor waarschuwen en ik hoop hiermee een signaal af te geven aan Peso dat hij zijn gedrag aan gaat passen. Om een ceremonie van 3 uur bij te wonen vroeg Peso zonder schaamte 900.000 IDR (ongeveer 50 euro) per persoon in een groep. De groep zou uit 4 personen bestaan. Nu heb ik al vrij veel gidsen en tours in Indonesië gedaan en normaal liggen prijzen in een groep van deze duur zo rond de 150.000 IDR dus deze prijs was buiten proportioneel. Ik ben eerst verder onderzoek gaan doen en met de andere gasten gaan praten. Nu bleek dat een stel dat mee ging op de tour 900k samen betaalde en een vrouw alleen 900k. Dus dat klopt al niet. Als je in een groep gaat en transport en alles deelt moet de prijs per persoon gelijk zijn. Hij probeert er dus per gast zoveel mogelijk uit te halen. 2.700.000 IDR voor 3 uur gids werk is meer dan de meeste Indonesiërs als salaris in een maand verdienen. Nu gun ik mensen echt wel iets extra’s maar dit is zo uit balans en het gevoel van belazerd te worden, daar ga ik principieel niet in mee. Toen ben ik bij andere homestays rond gaan vragen over gidsen. Daar liggen de prijzen al meteen veel lager en betaal je 700k voor een gids voor een hele dag (ongeacht je met 1 of 4 personen bent). Dat is nog steeds heel goed verdiend maar dat is wel conform de huidige prijzen. Ondertussen was ik al de hele avond bezig met dingen uitzoeken en kon geen andere groep vinden om mee aan te sluiten dus heb ik gezegd dat ik wel met Peso mee wil maar hem geconfronteerd met de prijsverschillen en gezegd dat ik niet meer dan 400k wil betalen. Uiteindelijk was dat prima maar alles bij elkaar heeft het wel mijn verblijf in deze homestay verpest en ben ik de volgende dag ook ergens anders heen gegaan. Zijn gids werk vond ik trouwens ook niet goed en fijn.

Juste exceptionnel. On est restés 5 nuits au lieu de 2 ! Peso et sa femme sont justes géniaux, hyper bienveillants. La nourriture est top, la maison est top. Scooter et circuits à la carte avec peso. Sa femme un amour, nous sommes tombés malade elle a tout fait pour qu’on aille au mieux. Deux humains exceptionnels merci encore !!

The staff, Anastasia and Peso made guests feel welcome. They have plenty of activities to offer to visit Toraja and will arrange to get things sorted for you to not worry. Food for dinner is great and generous.

Hôtel dans lequel vous pouvez vous rendre les yeux fermés. Très accueillant, peuvent vous trouver différents transports. Chambre propre avec douche avec eau chaude. Les repas sont excellents, nous sommes végétariens et à chaque fois nous avions des repas différents allant de l’entrée au dessert. Propose des lunchbox pour les sorties à la journée

Nous avons passé 5 jours incroyables chez Peso et Anastasia! Ils nous ont réservé un accueil très chaleureux et sont d’une gentillesse exceptionnelle! Les repas y sont copieux et délicieux, ce sont de très bons cuisiniers ! Peso a été notre guide pendant 3 jours à Toraja, c’est le meilleur! Il connaît bcp de choses et vous emmènera dans des endroits géniaux! Allez-y les yeux fermés !

Homestay avec des hôtes très aidants, organisent vos transferts, et font guide pour le pays Toraja. Repas sur place possible, très copieux même s'il n'était pas à notre goût. Bien placé pour aller se balade en ville. Chambre basique, avec salle de bain attenante, le nécessaire est là !

The hosts were extremely welcoming, helpful, and friendly! They gave us so many tips and recommendations and even helped with the arrangements. Thanks to them and my guide, I truly had the best time traveling here. I originally planned to stay for 2 days but ended up staying a whole week during which I was able to experience many funerals, weddings, and festivals. I feel so grateful, my heart is full! The rooms are spacious, very comfortable, silent and with a great view.

Room was next to the kitchen/dining area so could hear other guests talking loudly into the evening.

The rooms are clean. The basic room is basic, but the deluxe room is really nice with a view. The scooter we rented was also a good one.

Unfortunately we felt uncomfortable with the host’s approach. From the start, he was very pushy about selling his guided tours. We preferred exploring Toraja on our own, but he told us we wouldn’t understand anything without his services. In contrast, our friend staying at a different homestay received helpful recommendations on what to see and do in the area with a scooter. Also, when we mentioned being invited by locals to a funeral ceremony, the host insisted it was forbidden to attend without a guide. Overall, the accommodation itself was fine, but the atmosphere was spoiled by the pressure to buy tours

Peso and Anastasia are the kindest hosts. From the first greeting with a genuine smile and a juice to the last farewell when they took me to the station and made sure I got on the right bus, I was treated like a family. Good location, hot showers and delicious meals made the right combination for a perfect stay.

De kamers waren ruim met een prachtig uitzicht. Het eten is werkelijk voortreffelijk, waar krijg je nou nog een 3 gangen maaltijd. De staff is zeer vriendelijk. Peso is een echte verhalenverteller en maakt de trekking zeer informatief.

De trekkingsdagen verliepen af en toe wat rommelig in de communicatie. Peso wil het graag iedereen naar het zin maken en dat gaat denk ik wat ten koste van de organisatie en communicatie. Onze laatste trekkingsdag viel hierdoor in het water. Maar de reeds betaalde kosten werden netjes terugbetaald.

Tout est parfait ! Il nous a accueilli quand on est arrivé à 6h et on est reparti à 18h le lendemain. Horaires très flexible. Notre hôte est aussi notre guide . C’est un super guide . Il explique bien. Son épouse est très gentille aussi. Elle s’est bien occupée de notre séjour et organisation de voyage de retour. Ils sont venus nous déposer à la gare routière tous les deux. Très sympa 😊. Je recommande à 100%. Vous allez pas être déçu.

L'hospitalité exceptionnelle d'Anastasia qui s'est occupée de ma femme malade, l'a enmenée chez le médecin, nous a aidé à nous faire comprendre, était aux petits soins. Un grand merci ! Le confort du Homestay, spacieux avec de l'eau chaude, assez calme, une ambiance conviviale et un bon rapport qualité prix Le repas sur places sont excellents et très copieux nous avons mangé sur place tous les soirs. La situation dans Rantepao est pratique c'est facile d'accès

L'host e sua moglie sono molto gentili e disponibili. La camera è spaziosa e pulita, il letto molto comodo; nell'insieme l'ambiente è molto gradevole. Per chi ha il sonno keggero, consiglio i tappi perché i galli sono belli vispi (questo vale per tutta Toraja, per qualsiasi sistemazione). Noi ci siamo accordati con l'host per avere colazione e cena, più i tour classici di qusta zona (cerimonia funebre, tombe di pietra, trekking nelle risaie a terrazze,ecc ecc) e: - colazione varia e abbondante - cena con piatti tipici locali (ottima e abbondante) - tour molto validi Consiglio vivamente questa struttura per dormirci durate il soggiorno a Rantepao per visitare la stupenda terra di Toraja, e consiglio anche e soprattutto di concordare il pacchetto colazione/cena/tour con l"host, ne vale davvero la pena 🤩🤩🤩!!!

They helped us organize every part of our trip and even took the time to show us their local traditions and customs, giving us an authentic and unforgettable experience. Superbe Homestay ! Un grand merci à Anastasia et Peso, sans oublier Margaret pour leur accueil chaleureux, leur gentillesse ! La chambre était superbe avec une vue magnifique, les plats délicieux et trop copieux !Anastasia est aux petits soins et vous prépare un petit cocktail d’accueil, Peso des beaux moments à la guitare et des jolies chansons,la maison est très belle et au calme absolu , ambiance conviviale et belles rencontres avec les autres guests de l’endroit aussi ! Tout ça dans le lieu magnifique qu’est le pays Toraja et tous des trésors !🤩 Merci pour tout !😊

Alles wirklich außergewöhnlich gut, was vor allem an Anastasia und Peso als Gastgebern lag. Das Zimmer war groß und sauber, Anastasia Essen vorzüglich (wir sind überhaupt nicht mehr ausgegangen), Peso hat das gesamte Besichtigungsprogramm super organisiert - eine echte Empfehlung in Toraja.

Passer une semaine au pays Toraja n’est pas de trop : il y a tant à découvrir ! Pour profiter pleinement de votre séjour, le choix du homestay est essentiel, et la maison de Peso et Anastasia est une valeur sûre. Elle propose plusieurs chambres confortables avec une terrasse commune où sont servis les repas. Anastasia prépare chaque matin de copieux petits déjeuners, et, sur demande, de délicieux dîners. Peso, guide passionné du pays Toraja, élabore des programmes complets pour explorer la région et plonger dans sa culture unique. Nous recommandons vivement cette adresse pour votre séjour à Rantepao.

Des proprietaires tres acceuillant. Nous ne sommes restés qu'une nuit. Grande chambre et bon repas.

Unica nota stonata la tenda al posto della porta del bagno in camera e la mancanza di zanzariera nella finestra del bagno, per il resto camera pulita, struttura accogliente con dispenser acqua calda/fredda, the, caffè, frigo in hall .Segnalo colazione superlativa per qualità e quantità. Consigliata anche la cena in struttura. Si manhia veramente bene. Staff sempre col sorriso e disponibile per ogni richiesta.

Unica stonata la tenda al posto della porta del bagno in camera.
