Reviewed Sep 3, 2026작년 첫 알프스 트레킹 후 방문 후 너무 만족스러워서 또 방문하게 되었습니다. 사실 이 숙소를 오는 이유는 주변 조용한 분위기와 숨막히는 경치입니다. 그리고 저녁, 아침 모든게 완벽합니다. 개인적으로는.. 아침에 먹을 수 있는 꿀은 정말 최고입니다. 너무 행복합니다. 시간이 여유가 되는 분들은 이 곳에서 2박 이상을 지내면서 힐링하는 것도 너무 좋을 것 같아요.

Reviewed Aug 30, 2026Absolut authentisches Alpenhotel aus alten Zeiten - Holzhaus, Holztreppe, Holzböden, Etagen-WC, die Deko. Urige und knarzende Hütten - Atmosphäre. Rauschender Wasserfall, schöne Bergkulisse und typische Postbus - Fanfare inklusive. Danke an Corinna und das Hütten/Hotelteam!
Es gab nichts zu beanstanden.

Reviewed Aug 26, 2026Schönes historisches Hotel mit langer Tradition. Ermöglicht Retro-Feeling in alte Zeiten. Bewusst einfach gehaltene Infrastruktur. Sauber und gepflegt.
Aus meiner Sicht war das Zusammenspiel zwischen Personal und Gästen nicht sehr geschmeidig. Aufpassen, dass das im Aussenbereich aufgestellte grossgeschriebene WELCOME vom Personal auch ausreichend ernst genommen wird.

Nous devions y séjourner 2 nuits, nous ne sommes restés qu'une seule. Route d'accès très escarpée (à déconseiller aux conducteurs novices et aux propriétaires de véhicules châssis bas) ! Très bruyant durant la nuit (nous avions 2 chambres, une située au 1er étage au-dessus de la salle à manger avec un coucou qui sonnait tous les quart d'heure et une au 3ème étage juste à côté des wc communs avec du passage jusqu'à 3 heures du matin et dont la porte grinçait) ! Pdj moyen (j'ai attendu 10 minutes le café puis j'ai abandonné). Dialogue compliqué avec le personnel compte tenu d'un usage quasi exclusif de la langue allemande (menu de la partie restauration en allemand uniquement). Cher comme tout en Suisse (au diner, une carafe d'eau, eau identique à celle que l'on avait sur les paliers de l'hôtel, facturée 6 CHF) !

Reviewed Aug 23, 2026Hotel Waltrand was reached after a hard day's hike across the mountain pass from Murren. It is over one hundred years old and has a lot of character. Decor is basic mountain rustic, but the rooms, bedding and bathrooms are spotless. The communal bathroom I used, I am certain actually had a heated tile floor in order to keep it dry. The dinner and desert were great and the ''lunchbox'' prepared for the next day hike was appreciated as around the hotel and in nearby Griesalp, I did not sight a store. This hotel is exactly what I was looking for during my 6 day Bernese Oberland traverse. Small details like the flower posy in the room and hotel label pottle of jam, were appreciated.
If the owner is reading this, perhaps in the future they could welcome the guests too. An extra sign post for hikers from Murren would be a good idea.

Reviewed Aug 21, 2026Einfach alles - schönes nostalgisches Ambiente mit viel Liebe fürs Detail (alte Holzbretter und -dielen, historisches Haus, alte Werkzeuge und Möbel, tolle passende Dekoelemente). Man hat sich einfach wohl gefühlt. Auch die Bäder waren sehr sauber und völlig in Ordnung für Gemeinschaftsbäder. Die Lage war wunderschön mitten in der Natur. Das Personal war sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich und das Angebot einwandfrei.
Es ist etwas hellhörig, aber das gehört zum Ambiente und zum Stil der Unterkunft.

Clear double standards and discrimination against Asian guests. We booked 4 months in advance and checked in at 3 PM, but experienced terrible treatment: White guests: Seated in the main room with clean tablecloths, 1 group per table (even solo travelers). Us (Japanese couple): Isolated in a side room near the entrance (which doubled as the owner family's dining space) with flies and worn-out, peeling outdoor placemats. (see photo) At Breakfast: While white guests had private tables, we were squeezed onto one tiny table shared with another Korean couple (4 people forced to share 1 small table). Regardless of the staff’s smiles, this systematic segregation and inferior treatment strongly suggest racial bias. Future Japanese and Asian travelers, please beware.

Reviewed Aug 16, 2026I enjoyed the historic feel of the hotel. The finished were keeping with its history. Rooms tastefully appointed. I most enjoyed the hot shower after hiking for multiple days. The bed was comfortable and everything super clean.
I was served lunch and it went well, however at dinner I just wanted dessert. I think they cater to bigger tables or guests who have opted for the pre-fix menu that they offer. Everyone was friendly enough. This is a historic hotel, so wood floors creak and you can hear the movement of other guests.

Reviewed Aug 11, 2026Très joli hôtel, le personnel était très aimable et serviable. L'emplacement est calme et très beau et le bâtiment a beaucoup de charme. Nous avons très bien mangé le soir. Globalement nous avons été très satisfaits. C'est un très bon hébergement pour les randonneurs.
Les lits n'étaient pas très confortables et je m'attendais à un plus grand buffet pour le petit déjeuner. Mais ce sont des détails. Globalement nous avons été très contents.

Le charme de l’ancien veut aussi dire le parquet qui craque et on entend donc les allers et venues des autres clients. Cela ne nous a pas dérangé.

La salle de bain partagée est très propre, la chambre confortable. Le petit déjeuner a beaucoup de charme et est très bon. L’équipe très sympathique et souriante participe à rendre le séjour agréable.

Reviewed Jul 20, 2026De ouderwetse sweren en hoeveel karakter het gebouw en de kamers hadden, echt een fijne sfeer! Ook het eten was heerlijk met allemaak lokale producten en de faciliteiten waren modern en schoon! Het was mijn favoriete hotel van mijn reis!
Het bed was iets te kort en er zat geen slot op de deur, dat was verder geen probleem omdat het een erg vertrouwelijke omgeving was en als je waardevolle spullen mee had kon je ze opbergen in een kluis

Reviewed Jul 8, 2026The location is excellent, above the Kiental valley and reachable by the steepest PostBus ever at a 28deg incline. The views are majestic and the rooms are simple, clean and delivering indeed a nostalgic experience. There is a feeling of familiarity with the staff, they are super kind and friendly. Dinner was delicious and the choices for breakfast are great to start a hiking day, which you can start right in front of the hotel.
The stairs are a bit squeaky and you can hear your neighbors through the doors. But these are minor - the place is absolutely amazing if you are looking for a base to start hiking or want to spend a weekend away from the city.

Reviewed Oct 2, 2025Das Haus ist ein Schmuckstück, man hat das beste daraus gemacht ohne den alten Charme zu zerstören. Brennende Kerzen auf jedem Tisch bereits zum Frühstück. Feine Käse aus der Umgebung, guter Wein (Spiezer). Aufmerksame Bedienung. WLAN funktioniert, was nicht selbstverständlich ist in dieser Gegend.
Wie, um Himmels willen, kommt die Bedienung dazu, mich ungefragt zu duzen Ich bin nicht die Tante, die zu Besuch kommt, sondern ein Gast der mit der Höflichkeitsform angeredet wird. Sollte es die Philosophie des Hauses sein, müsste sie überdenkt werden. Es ist der Gast, der bestimmt, wie er angesprochen werden will, der Gastwirt richtet sich danach, nicht umgekehrt.

Reviewed Oct 1, 2025Very rustic/authentic hotel (one of the oldest in Switzerland) in one of the most beautiful valleys we've seen. The staff was wonderful and the restaurant served excellent meals made with fresh local food.
It was a bit strange not being able to lock our room doors (this was due to the locks being too old).
