The location is great if you’re attending an event at The Cow Shed.
Cleanliness: The cottage was very dusty with cobwebs and spiders in all rooms, including the en-suite shower. There was dried cereal/spill that hadn’t been cleaned up. The toilet roll provided in the neighbouring cottage, where my brother and sister-in-law stayed, was also visibly dirty with which looked like faeces. The toilet may have been used by someone there previously and toilet roll touched, but travelling with a newborn this was a real concern for us, as we assume the same cleaning company is used and we were checking in within a day of each other. Towels & Toiletries: Only one towel per person was provided, which wasn’t enough for 5 nights, especially as we didn’t feel comfortable using the washing machine area as it was visibly dirty. We ended up hand-washing towels in the bath but the drain was clogged with hair from previous guests. The bar of soap in each bathroom was tiny, the mini shower gels ran out quickly, only one toilet roll per bathroom was provided which also ran out quickly. Kitchen: The starter pack was very basic. There was no hand soap or any kitchen surface cleaner, so we had to buy our own kitchen roll, soap and extra sponges etc. Heating & Hot water: Only the radiator in the twin bedroom worked. The en-suite shower ran out of hot water and even after using the boost button it stayed cold for hours, only coming back on the next day. No kindling was provided for the open fire. WIFI & TV: The wifi signal was very poor. We couldn’t stream Netflix as programmes would only load to about 24%, and the selection of free channels was very limited. Checkout: We paid for a late checkout but cleaners arrived at 10am, which was disruptive as they entered the cottage with no warning. However the cleaners were very polite, and explained our late checkout had not been communicated to them. Other: The en-suite in the master bedroom had a persistent damp smell. The wooden pegs hadn’t been treated properly and stained our own towels.
