Waitomo Retreat is a lovely tiny place. Very clean & has all we needed for an overnight stay. The farm location was great & the rooster crowing early in the morning made us laugh!

The main bedroom was super small & the bed was a bit uncomfortable. Theres nowhere to put any luggage.

We saw the Milky Way on the first night with a clear sky.

Inadequate electricity supply - hair dryer and other electronic appliances can not be used due to the battery issue. Don’t think of cooking. There is only one gas stove.

Absolutely gorgeous retreat, Clean, Warm, Cozy my family thoroughly loved there stay an have asked to come back. The outdoor bath was a absolute bonus. Best place we have stayed via booking so far.

This place needs some serious maintenance. Its freezing cold, the heater smells of gas every time its turned on, the blankets smell of musk and dampness, the shower tray has silicone on it from a leak and when u shower it feels as though you're going to fall through, the toilet isn't connected to the wall & there's 1 bath bomb, while the photo showed a selection. The bed in the adults room is extremely uncomfortable and isn't a queen, there needs to be warmer blankets on the bed. For the money I paid I was expecting a lot better quality. No milk either, you get milk when stay in a motel. No spreads for any toast, the bread was stale and hard, the coffee was old and smelt, the sugar was damp. There's no garden, doesn't take much to put potted colour around and mow the lawns. Honestly wouldn't rate it. I'm an asthmatic and the lack of warmth and bedding is a concern. Not even a proper duvet. The pillows are extremely uncomfortable, the bath outside had hair in it. I had a good feeling about this place, until we opened the door and smelt mould. It's not healthy at all. The road noise is horrible the curtains don't cover the windows and are paper thin. No smoke alarm either which is illegal. The power consumption is a concern. You said there was Netflix, there isn't. The towels were disgusting and felt damp. I am so unimpressed at this place and am requesting a refund. My asthma got so bad, it wouldn't of been good for me to stay any longer. This isn't a welcoming place. Also, no air freshener either. I am extremely disappointed. I stay in a lot of places and I would've been more comfortable sleeping in the car or on a park bench! Your place needs to be shut down and fully renovated to a healthy home standard as this is shocking. Especially for the amount that was spent, I'm expecting a full refund. I don't know how people rate this place so high! The BBQ was disgusting.

Close to the caves. Would be good in fine weather when the doors are open and decking extends the living space. Outdoor bath a nice touch.

Living space was compact for x3 guests when weather was poor. Really tricky to cook in the space indoors. The road noise is not so tranquil.

Had to climb over the bed to get to the other side Just off the highway was not a retreat, it was battery operated Shower was very small Guest from the other unit come on to out unit for a walk around, owner came to to drop off toilet paper once he cleaned the other unit, was nice he dropped it off but I booked because it was meant to be a retreat and just wanted to relax, but it was hard with the noise of the highway

It was compact and had what we needed for a one night stay. Communication with hosts was clear, quick and kind. Very helpful. Fruit, eggs and bread was a nice touch

I think the photos show something much more luxurious. The cabin is very near the main road and Trainline so not as quiet as you might hope

Just 15 minutes away from R- caves. Self contained unit, very quiet. Complementary bread milk eggs very nice touch. Great/ simple self check-in instructions.

Bedroom just barely larger than the bed- need to climb over to get out. We weren’t sure how to use the propane.

The view was really nice (beautiful sunset), check-in was very easy, the owners were lovely with good communication and all the appliances worked.

Unfortunately I was disappointed with this stay. I feel that the photos and description did not accurately describe the home we were staying in- in retrospect looking at the photos most of them are of the outside (rather than the inside) of the home. It was smaller than I expected (in particular the kitchen was extremely small) and less well-appointed than it appeared. The floor of the shower initially appeared dirty but then I realised it was actually patched up with glue and felt flimsy beneath your feet- in my opinion this needs replacing. My main issue was that there was a stale smell throughout the home so I had to keep the doors open while we were there for some ventilation.

We had a wonderful stay here with our family. The scenery is absolutely beautiful — we could enjoy both sunrise and sunset, and there were cows grazing around the property, which made the experience feel very peaceful and close to nature. There is also an outdoor bathtub where you can relax while enjoying the wide green landscape. The whole environment is very comfortable and calming, perfect for unwinding. We truly enjoyed our one-night stay here, and it was very comfortable and memorable. The location is also very convenient, only less than 10 minutes’ drive to the glow worm caves. Highly recommended for anyone who loves nature and a quiet, relaxing environment.

If I had to mention one small drawback, it would be that there is no hair dryer in the bathroom, which was a bit inconvenient. However, this did not affect our overall experience.

I like the location- quiet, private, relaxing farm views. The host is generous with providing milk, eggs, bread and sodas. Very good communication from the host.

The kitchen is a wee bit small, but it’s all good as we’ve packed some home-made foods, so did not really need to cook.

Did not realise that it was battery powered- the shower was in poor condition, no smoke alarms were spotted, tv was tricky to operate and run smoothly, was not sure about recycling so left bottles in the bin with rubbish- perhaps I did not read a whole lot of information about the tiny house - very tight .

It gets too hot in the afternoon and too cold in the early morning. It gets very very loud because it is so close to highway. I needed to wear earplugs. The hygiene is not so great. The bed I stayed in had pillow cases smelling oily and very gross.

The shower was average and the kitchen area was very cramped.

Hi Lucas, The stay really suited us – close to the caves and a lovely place to sit back and enjoy a beer or wine while looking out over the rolling hills and farmland as the sun set after a long day. Perfect location for visiting the Waitomo Caves. Peaceful rural setting, cute property, beautiful views, and bread and eggs in the fridge for breakfast!

The views from the house were stunning, my boys loved running around and exploring the place and finding the chickens. The complimentary goodies in the fridge were also a nice treat.

The only thing we found was the size of the place was very cramped for us as a family of four but for one night it was fine.

Convenient to glowworm caves and town. It is a tiny space but clean and comfortable.

La habitación no estaba tan limpia como se podría imaginar por las fotos, el microondas muy sucio y las telarañas en el baño eran gigantes. El detalle de dejar algo para desayunar es estupendo, pero la leche llevaba más de 10 días caducada. El colchón de la habitación de matrimonio estaba muy pero muy blando.

The top bunk was very wobbly and very squeaky. Quite uncomfortable. There was no linen for the sofa bed which folded up on the occupant.

I loved this retreat! The view was sensational and the outdoor bath was a highlight.

Our stay at Waitomo Retreat was absolutely perfect. The place itself was beautiful, and the views were truly amazing. We stayed in a small cabin with two bedrooms, and it had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing getaway. The host and his parents were incredibly accommodating and made sure every part of our stay was just right. Their warm hospitality really made the experience special. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay — highly recommended!

We were three adults travelling together two of us slept in the bunk beds. The mattress weren’t really comfortable.

Retreat is the perfect word for this place. It was so peaceful. Facilities were great, room was nice and clean and the view was FANTASTIC.

Nice view, outdoor bath, complimentary soft drinks, milk, bread and eggs. Very close to Waitomo caves, only 15 min drive. The host was very nice and helpful.

The place was a little smaller than expected, coffee cups were stained and need a good clean. Shower dispensers either need to be cleaned or replaced.

I really loved the location. Right on the farm. The baby lamb and mama were entertaining. Waking up and seeing the baby lamb on our deck was a treat.

We had bread, milk and fresh eggs from the farm in the refrigerator when we arrived!

We arrived late and it was already dark out so it was a little tricky finding our way around but this was not a reflection on the accommodation. We just wish we had more time to enjoy it.

Location was great and the breakfast was a lovely extra. Communication was excellent with the owners. Perfect for an overnight stay after visiting the caves.

Great location if you’re planning to visit the Waitomo Glowworm caves. The view in the morning was also beautiful.

The towels smelt as if stored for a long time and not fresh Beds are the most important and bunk needs the springs removed if using board under neath as it makes it noisey. Double bed needs replacing

Cold and very noisy, very close to the highway so you could hear every vehicle passing. Also very cold, only a small heater that was not enough! It is a container. No hot tub, just a standard tub outside.

Everything. It's a perfect set up and we loved our stay! The little breakfast extras made a huge difference and my mum and I loved the outdoor bath! It was a great nights stay! Thank you

Uncomfortable old bed, sheets felt old and not crisp and clean, so we didn’t sleep well, noisy as the property is on the main road

The traffic noise and view. Constant and heavy. the photos suggested a rural vista, which it was, but the main road cutting through it spoilt the feeling. Limited cooking facilities in the rain.

Outdoor tub

Communication through booking.com email responses was not working. I was happy that the host left a what’s app number at the accommodation in case I needed to be in touch. Once I left, I didn’t have that number in my phone so I couldn’t communicate that I checked out. It isn’t the hosts fault that the booking.com platform did not work. I was able to receive their comments but when I replied, it said the email address was not valid and message couldn’t be delivered. Very frustrating!

Not at all. The place has everything we need for😮‍💨
