Location
The hotel is tired, a vacuum cleaner was left outside our room for two days showing lack of supervision The room was very clean but radiator was rusty in the bathroom, needs a revamp. Corridors to the bedroom were tired, needs decorating badly marked. Storeroom doors always open showing stores and poorly maintained rooms
Clean, quiet, comfortable. Great friendly helpful staff
The hotel is perfectly located for walking around Ullswater and surrounding area. Has car parking for guests. Food-wise. The self serve breakfast is great. Decent choice of hot and cold. Only ate in the bar in a evening. The food was great again. Tasty, decent sized portions and reasonable prices. Room and bathroom were, most importantly, clean. A bit of decoration refresh wouldn't hurt though. The hotel and surrounding area felt safe and welcoming to a first time solo traveller. I would definitely visit again which sometimes says more than a 'wordy' review 👍
I wouldn't say didn't like, more could do with. The access corridor to my room could do with a refresh.
Good breakfast but staff didn’t ask if I wanted anything off the menu
Dinner undercooked chips
The location was excellent, and the staff were outstanding—very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast and dinner were basic but acceptable. Unfortunately, the main downside was that the food was often cold. The communal areas of the building were fine, but the rooms were quite outdated but clean. In our room, the window was broken and could not be opened. Overall, the excellent staff made a positive impression and helped make our stay more pleasant.
The breakfast and dinner were served cold. The room was outdated, and there was visible mould inside the wardrobe. The bathroom also needs renovation, as the paint on the ceiling is peeling throughout.
Breakfast, location, staff, all amazing!
Good location for walking without having to drive anywhere. Breakfast was nice, cooked breakfast was always hot and fresh. Staff generally nice and friendly, particularly front of house.
Mattress was not comfy, very soft and you had to lie in the middle or you sloped off the side! Bathroom not particularly clean, lots of black mould in the shower.
Pack lunches were good. Hot shower and bath good when walking long distances.
Het was het meest perfecte 2 sterren hotel waar we ooit geweest zijn. Alles klopte met de rating en het personeel is heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam.
Location is fantastic for exploring this beaitiful part of the Lake District
Nice breakfast and evening dinners
Lack of parking. Early check out
A typical old fashioned English hotel! Rooms were clean and comfortable and the have a great breakfast buffet. The location is fantastic and perfect for exploring the Lake District. Also the bar and restaurant are recommendable!
Nothing to complain about.
Very friendly welcome when checking in..Fabulous views from the room. A great stay away form it all.
As others have said, the decor is a bit dated. But don't let that put you off.
Breakfast the location
The guests above us banging and running
Perfect accommodation for a weekend hike. Excellent breakfast (cereals, full Cumbrian, kippers, porridge, toast). Good selection of beers and bar food. Plenty of car parking. 15 minute walk into Glenridding.
Best location, very friendly and helpful staff. Service is excellent. Most preferred location.
Great location great staff very helpful
Nothing spot on
Excellent location with parking and bus stops right outside. Lovely staff.
Breakfast shoud not be same everyday.
The staff are amazing. Could maybe do with an updated menu or more vegetarian options, apart from that everything & everyone was great 🙂
Amazing location. Was there 5 nights, mainly walked from the hotel and used car very little. The breakfast was buffet style, help yourself, good selection- I had mainly cooked. Ate at the hotel twice in the evening, food was very tasty, but limited vegetarian choice (husband veggie), but he enjoyed the vegetarian pizza. There was a good selection of pizzas. I had the steak pie and veg twice, enjoyed it the first time so much - looked and tasted homemade - that i had it again a couple of nights later. (There was also a restaurant which seemed popular)The coffee in the bar was good and strong, had a machine. Nice lounges and areas to sit down stairs. The double bed was very comfortable, and the view was amazing from the bedroom window. We were on the second floor, there was a lift. Sam at reception was amazingly helpful, she deserves a special mention.
Maybe the bed could have been bigger, but we are used to a king size, but the double was fine. There are no bedside plugs.
We liked the location and onsite free parking
It was filthy and rooms falling to pieces. The first room we had stunk of wee wallpaper hanging off the bed was filthy. Door didn’t even shut right was horrendous. We went to reception and asked for a different room. This room was better as had a nice view but the rooms still very dated and not clean hotel needs a full revamp. Even bar area filthy we didn’t eat or drink here.
Great location, good food and friendly staff
Excellent location. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely breakfast. Comfy beds
No socket near bed.
Location good relaxed & comfortable atmosphere been staying for nearly twenty years
As the Hotel is now Dog friendly it would be good if owners & Dogs were acommodated on first or ground floors as we're were woken up offeten with a Dog running around the room above us not very relaxing!
Very friendly and pleasant staff throughout.
Walls a bit thin so disturbing noise of slamming doors early in the morning.
Staff were excellent and very welcoming.
Mattress was far too soft. Update with firmer Mattress and it would be perfect 👌
The staff were exceptional, breakfast top notch.
The room was very dated in appearance, in desperate need of renovation. It could also do with USB sockets by the bed
Check in was easy and straightforward, the staff were friendly and efficient.
Nothing of note, all good.
Nice hotel if a little dated. The lady on reception told us it was having a refurb next year. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The room (117) was clean but no view to speak of and the noise from the kitchen fans was annoying. Unfortunately the bed was a small double (4ft) rather than a regular double (4’6”) so if you’re on the bigger it probably wouldn’t suit.
Staff were excellent. So helpful and curtious. Room clean Comfortable bed .
Decorating a little dated and tired.
The staff was very friendly and we loved the location. The hotel was very clean. We loved the lounge room where could play some games
Location
Nothing
Good breakfast, plenty of choice, friendly helpful staff, comfortable bed, great view from bedroom window (front of hotel).
I only ate in the bar side of the hotel, food was a little expensive, due to the nature of it's location signal wasn't great.
The staff especially Sam & Mathew absolutely make the place! All the staff are grafters but these two stood out. Sam should be the manager she sorts everything out.
Abit dated & no air vent of any type in the bathroom
Location
Ancient looks like something from the 1980s very dated
Great location and lovely staff
All was good
location excellent ,breakfast really good and bar food really good
nothing
Staff were all really friendly, helpful and well trained. Food was tasty and well cooked. Excellent location for a walking base with plenty of parking.
Decor was a little tired and looked ready for a refresh. Pillows were a bit too firm although the beds were comfortable.
Patterdale/Glenridding is a fantastic base for exploring the Lake District, and after 35 years of visiting the area as a couple, we finally decided to give this hotel a try. We certainly weren't disappointed. From the moment we arrived, we received a warm welcome. The reception staff were friendly, informative, and made both check-in and check-out quick and straightforward. The hotel was clean, and our room was comfortable. While some areas are a little dated, it really doesn't matter when you have such stunning scenery right on the doorstep—you won't be spending much time in your room anyway. The food was delicious, the communal areas were pleasant and relaxing, and breakfast was very good too. The only thing missing was black pudding, but that's hardly a deal-breaker. Overall, this hotel offers great value for money, and we'll definitely be staying here again.
We've been coming to Patterdale and the surrounding area for over 35 years and have always stayed nearby as our base for exploring the Lake District. This was our first stay at the Patterdale Hotel, and we honestly wondered why we'd never stayed here before! From the moment we arrived, we received a warm welcome from the friendly and helpful staff, who gave us all the information we needed. Our room was comfortable and clean. Yes, the décor is a little dated in places, but when you're surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, you're not spending much time in your room anyway. The food was excellent, with plenty of choice, and breakfast was lovely. There wasn't any black pudding, but that's hardly a deal-breaker when everything else is so good! There are lots of comfortable communal areas to relax in after a day's walking or sightseeing. In fact, we never even switched the TV on—there was simply no need. All in all, we had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again. The Patterdale Hotel is a great base for exploring this beautiful part of the Lake District, and we're already looking forward to returning.
Lovely location, and nice, clean room. Decent food, and nice atmosphere, especially considering it has only recently transitioned to new ownership. Will definetly come back if I'm in the area again sometime in the future!
The Patterdale is excellent value for money, lovely food, super location. Easy access for walks right from the hotel. The car stayed parked for 4 days. Lovely swims in Ullswater at Silver Bay. Highly recommended.
Patterdale is the ideal location to walk into Glennridding for the lake, steamer landing, food and drink, shops and tourist information centre. It takes 20 minutes to walk there. The only complaints were the food at breakfast and in the restaurant could have been hotter and as the room was so hot a fan would have helped make it more comfortable. The room was clean and the restaurant was spacious . The bed and pillows were comfy. The beer garden was large with plenty of seating. On our first day we had a cooked meal in Glenridding at lunchtime. We would have liked a sandwich for tea but the bar at the hotel only served sandwiches until 5 pm and we weren't ready to eat at 5 pm. There were four cooked meals and pizza served from 5 pm to 8 pm so one of our party had pizza and the rest of us had a cooked meal. There were four choices of starter, main and dessert in the restaurant. You could have two or three courses. The food was tasty, good quality and there was plenty of it. The sausages at breakfast were delicious and there was lots of variety, cereals including porridge, fruit, fruit juice ,yogurt, cooked breakfast and brown and white bread. There was as much tea or coffee as you wanted. You could ask for egg on toast, boiled eggs, kippers, glutton free bread and an alternative to cow's milk. I enjoyed all the food we had in the hotel. We stayed on a Wednesday when it was Happy Hour between 8 pm and 9 pm. Two types of beer and three types of wine were for sale at a reduced price. There was a female singer performing and she was really good. I wouldn't hesitate to come back and stay at the Patterdale Hotel.
Food was terrible. I ordered steak pie and fish and chips. The worse food. When the pie arrived, just a small portion with hardly any meat and the pastry was so hard. The only things I liked about the place was the location. I wish I read the reviews before.
My husband and I have had a lovely stay- yes the hotel is tired and needs upgrading but the staff make up for it in bucketfuls. Fabulous location- lovely food - try their pizza it’s hard to beat. I am told there are future plans for an upgrade - it is currently a very affordable stay with good value for money.
Great service and food.Very authentic place.Nice garden, staff were very lovely.Definitely will be back.
This was our 19th stay at the Patterdale Hotel. The hotel is now under new ownership and some changes have taken place as you would expect. I am sure there will be more changes but of course these will take time to implement. The new staff although not as experienced as previous staff were very friendly and helpful. They made every effort to make the guests feel very welcome. We look forward to returning again soon.
A most wonderful time at this amazing hotel.
Perfect location & comfy room. Fantastic staff who went above and beyond to help as I had booked the wrong dates :). Great breakfast. The hotel also has a pub and can prepare pack lunches upon request which is very handy.
I had a wonderful stay at this brilliantly located hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and helped me with a number of issues. I was able to walk from the hotel on 3 of 6 long day walks on the adjacent Lake District fells. It is only a short walk into Glenridding for shops, lake activities and the steamer landing. It is also very good value for money.
Beautiful location. Very friendly staff and excellent food. We will be returning again next year.
Perfect location, clean rooms, nice food, 2 good sized beer gardens, friendly staff. Would have been 5 stars but stop serving bar meals at 5pm & ran out of pizzas!! Rooms are a decent size albeit a little dated but surely they are only for sleeping as there's so much to do & see in Ullswater
This was our second time at the Patterdale hotel. The location is fab for walkers and people who just want to relax and unwind. Although the hotel is a little tired it's warm, welcoming and very cosy with lots of areas to sit and chill, drink, read or watch tv. The outdoor space is great for sunny days and evenings. The staff can't do enough for you. They are friendly, chatty (if you want to engage) and very polite. They make sure you have everything you need and are happy to help. The Patterdale has recently been taken over and is due a refurbishment but I hope they keep the cosiness of the hotel and the value for money it offers. Food is plentiful, well cooked and a good choice on offer.
Stayed 5th - 10th July 26, When we arrived, we had a wonderful friendly welcome by the reception team Flori and Paulina also Sam, who couldn’t do enough for you Andy, who worked on the bar and also in the restaurant was excellent Once again he couldn’t do enough for you very knowledgeable about wines and also the drinks an asset to the team, Housekeeping was Meisha nothing was too much trouble for her to do for us what a star, The food was lovely, Steve the Chef, made time every day to go through menu for the things I could eat absolutely fabulous, couldn’t thank him enough, Marcel from management to Setting Tables what an asset Overall, our experience we had a fabulous time, especially with this team who we’ve mentioned we will definitely come back again it would be nice to see what you do to this hotel Di and Sue xx A big Thank You to Mike Magic for helping to carry luggage to bags were a true star xx
Perfect location, amazing beer garden, lovely room, friendly staff with nothing being too much trouble, lovely bar food. Would 100% recommend. Perfect for walks, didn't even have to drive anywhere to start the walks.
After a long hot day in the hills we couldn't face putting up our tent so we stopped off here to see if there was a room. We were greeted by a lovely friendly lady on reception, thankfully a room was available, quick check in and we were good to go. The room was very clean with a lovely comfy bed, good shower and lovely towels, just what we needed. The breakfast was a buffet which was 10/10, excellent friendly staff. Would definitely stay again. Thank you.
Location, pleasant staff ,food Good.
Friendly, helpful staff. Food is pretty poor. Chicken dinner, meat was tough, served without pigs in blankets and potato not as menu stated and indecipherable. Cheesecake strawberries inedible. The rest was uninspiring. Wainwrights pint served with such a head that it was literally two thirds of a pint! Ceiling leaked over diners eating! The hotel needs attention.
Never again will I stay at the patterdale hotel after years of great memories and returning visits three to four times a year. Breakfast horrible sausages have a sign saying Cumberland sausage an insult to everyone having to put signs think we know eggs, bacon etc. All the staff have left and the rest looking for new jobs what a great miss this is because all the staff are very experienced and knowledgeable about the area.
I’m really disappointed by how much the Patterdale Hotel has changed. As a regular visitor over the years, I’ve seen a real decline, and it’s upsetting to see what has happened. The standards have clearly dropped. The quality of the food is no longer what it used to be, and most of the friendly, welcoming staff who had worked there for many years have left. They were a huge part of what made the hotel such a great place to visit, and their absence is really noticeable. There also seemed to be a lack of attention to basic maintenance. A broken window had still not been repaired after a week, which doesn't inspire confidence that issues are being dealt with promptly. It's such a shame to see a hotel that I used to enjoy visiting decline in this way. What on earth has happened? Sadly, I won't be returning.
The location was brilliant and staff were really friendly and helpful
The room was really dated and not great, breakfast was ok but not brilliant.
breakfast was very good and choice excellent
the building and deco looked tired and worn it benefitted by providing lots of hot water I chose to eat out as severing finished at 8pm
Everything. Good food. Great staff. Comfy bed. Better tap water than home. Great hike straight out of the door. Quiet. Nice atmosphere.
Nothing.
Position of hotel. Clean. Excellent staff.
Beds too soft for us. We prefer firmer beds A little tired in places. Stayed for 2 nights and expected beds to be made for us on return to hotel. Tea/coffee making facilities were not replenished for 2nd day.
Visited here on my coast to coast trek in early May just before tackling Kidsty Pike, the highest climb on my adventure. It was mid morning so half way between breakfast and lunch so although the bar was open, it was too early for lunch but the barman asked the chef if they could open the kitchen to prepare an early lunch for me. Exceptional service!! This is how hotels were run years ago when the customer came first! Nothing was too much trouble. I chatted to the barman for over an hour. A Scottish guy who was so friendly with fascinating stories. Although this was just a lunch stop, it really was a coast to coast highlight with so many special memories for me. It just shows there are lovely genuine people out there who will go out of their way to help you. The Pennine Hotel is directly on the coast to coast route, you actually walk past their entrance. All coast to coasters must either stay here overnight or pop in for great food before the long climb. A lovely high quality feel and great atmosphere. Thank you for a lovely welcome. I really appreciated it!!
Perfect location Food is magnificent Brilliant value for money
Good centre for a large number of us (30) to meet up, with most of us able to get bookings. Catered for us all for dinner, with very helpful and friendly staff
The mattress on the bed was so soft that one felt in danger of rolling off. Our room on the ground floor looked directly into the car park - and vice versa.
The location at the head of Ullswater, albeit too distant for a view of the lake. Bus connections are convenient.
The rooms were small enough before they were subdivided to create even tinier bathrooms. Nothing stands out as unacceptably poor, but the place is pretty tired and charmless. Pleasant enough staff, but their attitude is summed up as 'someone messed up' in response to my observation that the toppings on my pizza seemed unrelated to the menu. It seems to be exploiting a local mismatch between supply and demand. In most locations it would be outcompeted and forced to up its act or lower its prices.
Good breakfast and evening meal. Superb location catering very well for walking community
Lack of safe & mini fridge for cold drinks.
We have been visiting Patterdale hotel for over 20 years mainly my husband and I and two friends never having a bad experience .We last visited with our family of thirteen last year , 8 adults and 5 grandchildren youngest being 6 eldest 18 ,3 teenagers in the middle , all loved it and wanted to repeat it this year so we booked . Finding out it was up for sale we were not sure if it would change . We arrived Friday afternoon and from the first friendly greeting , it continued throughout our stay , from all the staff . The present staff , which we only recognised 1 from our previous visits are this hotels ASSETS and deserve high praise . The rooms do need a little TLC but they are clean and comfortable only 2 of our group found the bed uncomfortable . The food was fabulous , varied ,tasty and generous . The breakfast is amazing , self service with a selection of dishes you can order . It was the first visit since dogs had been allowed and although one of our group is allergic to dogs he was perfectly alright and we didn’t have any negatives . We shall be watching what happens to see if it will continue to be in our price range , hopefully it will .
The breakfast was good and the staff really friendly and helpful: they loved our dog and made us all feel welcome. One evening they had a singer in the bar area which made the evening fun.
We didn't like being forced onto a fixed two course menu after 5:00 pm. One evening we tried to book a lighter option at 4:45 only to be told the chef was unavailable. This, however, was sorted when the evening chef willingly cooked for us. Sound silly, but I want this to reflect the willingness of the staff to help.
It was all good.
Fantastic location! Food was really nice too
breakfast the receptionist who greeted us on arrival who unlike the rest of the staff was friendly and interested in our plans for the stay.
service, particularly in the bar, where only one bartender was serving despite there being a line of guests waiting to buy drinks. the other bartender was only interested in stacking glasses and ignored the mounting queue. having to pay for everything upfront despite being guests staying for 3 nights. we have never experienced such petty regulations ever before in a hotel or inn. particularly embarrassing to have to pay for evening meal at reception before eating. one wonders what would happened if we had been inclined to ask for drinks while having the meal. more than a touch of Faulty Towers to be fair.
Location to Glenridding. Bath in the room.
My room by the stairs with the door opening/shuting most of the night. Air condition unit under my windows-noisy until 20.00. Bad sound proofing, I could hear neighbours talking etc. Miserable bar staff.
The full english breakfast was amazing, worth staying just for that.
A bit old fashioned furniture, but ok.
The outside garden was lovely.
If you have a dog your experience here is limited. Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant and elsewhere they stop serving at 5pm. So make sure you plan an early dinner. Also they shut the elevator at night so if you have to walk your dog after 11pm you have to use stairs. Which is inconvenient if you have an elderly dog or if your dog is sick. Staff was friendly.
Ideal ‘walkers/hikers’ hotel and dog friendly (although not allowed in the restaurant/dining room) in a beautiful setting. Large garden/outside seating area. Lovely bedroom overlooking Place Fell and Patterdale. Comfortable bed, clean linen, clean bathroom. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Considering the hotel is popular with walkers 8:00-10:00am breakfast is quite a late start for those wanting to head out into the hills for a full day’s hiking. Also for those arriving back after 5pm, food options limited to either 2 course or 3 course set menu (£25/£30) when light bites or à la carte would be preferred.
The location was perfect for the walks I was doing. Staff all helpful, free parking.
Breakfast didn’t start til 8 am, which is late if you want to get out on the fells early Food after 5 pm- only option was a 2 course for £25 or 3 for £30, all I wanted was a burger and chips, had to go to the pub next door- as did a few I spoke to
All of the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Wrote a review last month praising this hotel for being dog free. Unfortunately on returning this week they now have dog friendly rooms and the bar and lounge are dog friendly. Yet another place that doesn't realise how many people don't want to be surrounded by dogs. There are so many dog friendly places why give up your unique selling point. Another place I will avoid.
Excellent location. Lovely staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really good quality
Nice location.
Really need some a bit of tlc, room was small and no view out the window. The paintwork etc shabby and needs some updating. People appear to love it so wonder if they had got better rooms or better deals. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was self serve and ok. Restaurant has a limited menu so we didn’t eat in the evening here. Bar area dated but fine
Excellent breakfast, everything freshly cooked. Very peaceful location
Room could do with decorating but was spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money
Hotel in general in need of some TLC, carpets, paint work etc. Decor dated. Clean room and nice staff. Really loud in the dining room in the morning but it was a busy weekend. It is a large hotel so will accommodate a lot of people. Our room didn’t have a view and was freezing cold when we arrive with door and window wide open and towel propping the door open. The room soon warmed up when the window was closed and heating put on. Quite an old fashioned vibe in the bar, but not really retro more just dated. Felt like I was in a hotel I worked in as a teenager in the 90’s. Reasonably priced compared to other hotels close by but still felt over priced
Disappointing stay will not be returning sadly I called during the week asking for a larger room at the far end of the hotel and we were returning guest and staying for my wife’s birthday the lady said she would make a not of my request On arrive checkin felt a bit abrupt and all the lady seemed interested in was asking me to move my booked meal time because we were the latest booking and the restaurant wasn’t busy which we did We then had a sandwich in bar then went for a walk and drink before checkin The food and most of staff were very good The biggest disappointment was room allocation ( 123) it was the total opposite of what I had asked for The room is at the back of hotel very dark above the restaurant in a busy part of hotel El the walls are paper thin and the noise from people walking in corridor and the room above was really bad as was the plumbing when they ran tap or flushed toilet The mattress wasn’t great tiny bed didn’t sleep a lot with someone snoring next door
Good location for walking. Excellent buffet breakfast. 4 or 5 choices for each course in the evening. Tea making in the room. Free parking.
Terrible view of the back of the kitchen from our room 117. We're used to a wider bed. Old building going back to the 15th century so it creaks a bit, which is good and bad.
Breakfast was just average. Cheap ingredients.
The public areas like the hallway and staird were in poor condition. Old chipped paintwork and dirty carpets.
Found it easy, staff were lovely and welcomed my little dog
The only thing was I could have done with a ground floor, so I could take my little dog out easier. I was up three flights of stairs
Nothing. A very tired looking hotel. Bedroom was gloomy. Depressing place to stay
Poor parking. Loads of potholes and not enough space. We really struggled to find a space.
Friendly staff
The staff at the reception desk is very helpful.
This hotel was one of the best ten years ago but lack of investment has made it one of the worst, it is located in Patterdale a mecca for walkers. The atmosphere is none existant due to the lack of customers, there were only about thirty whilst we were there, compared to being full five years ago. Meal times were horific due to a famiy group with screaming kids and none of the management were willing to do anything about it. The restaurant staff and food were brilliant but it was a different matter with the bar staff they did everything they could to avoid doing any work at all you can forget moving glasses or tables they stayed were they were left on the tables.. Five AM was time for deliveries hard luck if you were in the room above the waste bins and skip they were also emptied early dragging big dustbins about. The room we had was broken so we were unable to lock it leaving it open, we won`t be going there again, a good hotel ruined.
Staff were good and check in was quick and easy. Breakfast was good, although restaurant was very tightly packed. Evening meal was basic but well cooked. Very good location, with plenty of walks and a flat easy 15min walk into town.
The hotel seemed to be stuck in the 70's, decoration was tired and poor. Our bedroom was very small, with not a lot of space to get around the bed.
We arrived in Patterdale after a days walking, The pub was fully booked and very busy so we booked a table in the hotels restaurant.
We have visited over 35 times and recommended countless friends, so really excited to be setting off to go there last weekend. Sadly, it is changing hands and there are many small differences. The food remains spot on - hot, tasty and plenty of variety on the menu (apart from the same parsnips, carrots and fine beans most nights). Would recommend the food highly - but the wonderful weekly quiz has gone. The spotless rooms no longer get any housekeeping during the stay (not even bin emptying). No info in rooms, no welcome at reception, significantly increased prices (pay on arrival), much reduced numbers of waiting staff (only 3 managing a full restaurant on 2 evenings), bar closing at 10.30, staff looking weary and anxious about changes ...all in all it was no longer the warm and welcoming place we loved. Still given 4 stars for the scenery and food and comfy beds ...but it has just lost its sparkle (hopefully temporarily).
The hotel is ideally situated for walking or just exploring the Lake District. Our bedroom was extremely tired and in desperate need of a refurb. Talking to other guests who found the same it was gossip that the owners have put the hotel up for sale which may explain the hotels situation. That said everywhere was scrupulously clean. The rooms were very warm, we had to turn down the radiator. On a massive plus side, the bar is well stocked, and the restaurant produces home cooked food which restores my faith in chefs ability to prepare food for large numbers of people. Every night, a new venue! Hot food, with well thought out menus containing some innovative ideas. Would I go again....of course!
Breakfast was only lukewarm.
Location was perfect and food was outstanding.
Beds need updating and showers too.
