Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Spacious room and the bed was very comfy. Had everything you could need with the pub facilities a few steps away. I didn't have the continental breakfast but would have been good value. Felt very safe as a single female traveler.
The room was over looking the road so some / occasional noise from traffic but windows were double glazed.
Really lovely properly the pub is really traditional perfect location for the wedding across the road. Beautiful view out of the window. The bed was sooo comfortable!!! The ladies who checked us in and out were both really down to earth and welcoming, this came naturally to them and were both very smiley.
The shower is poor. Half of the holes the water is meant to come out of don’t work and it would not be possible to wash your hair in it if you have long hair as the water is a light trickle
There was only continental breakfast which was disappointing. Apparently no chef .
More lights in room very dark .
Friendly staff and lovely accommodation
I can honestly say there was nothing we liked about the room in any respect
The room was old and dated and had no tv or facilities that you would expect when paying the rate being charged. We initially booked the room with full breakfast but were advised that due to staffing issues only continental breakfast would be available on the day, we decided to change to room only and requested a refund of the difference we paid, i believe this is managed through booking.com. When we arrived the kitchen was closed for the day and no food was available again due to staffing issues. Both myself and my wife felt the room had an odour that you associate with old furnishings and it was not particularly clean in places, all said very disappointing
Nothing
The whole place looked neglected. Peeling paint on rotting wood on the exterior. The room was grim and dismal with dark furniture and dark doors. Very depressing. It’s somewhere i’d go to commit suicide. Didn’t have a shower because they were no grab rails and i struggle to get in a bath. Old fashioned shower curtain. The whole room needed a total refurb with brighter colours. The bed, although comfortable was very high and i had to launch myself onto it. The breakfast was appalling. For what i paid i would have expected a cooked breakfast. The room was reasonably clean but i would not stay here again and wouldn’t recommend
Bed was very comfortable
Decor very tired. Pub shut at 10 pm Saturday night
Did not stay for breakfast.
Everything was good
Convenient for a wedding at Kingscote Barn. Was allowed to pick up my room key early. Room was good. Slept well. Breakfast was good value.

Good location, traditional building
Room very tired and not clean. Very expensive considering
Very good value for money, clean and no hassle.
Conveniently located for an event. Comfortable bed, clean sheets.
Very run down room. Bathroom very old and tired, cracked sink, broken toilet seat, shower hose and spray corroded. Carpet in room and bathroom facilities dirty.
It’s my home from home. Normally lovely staff and hotel
Room was not cleaned. Bin full, bits on floor. Staff shortage No curtains in room
The location was great for the Kingscote Barn wedding location
The property was very poor, the rooms were lacking, the decor was really poor, the sink was cracked, the whole bathroom was poor. The furniture and curtains and room needed serious updating.
The only good points were the food and the drinks. Food was great, well cooked and presented and they served a nice pint on draft.
They use words like charming and rustic when they should use words like dirty and improvements urgently required. Everywhere was dirty, every room, table, chairs, carpet, everything. The amount of dead and alive bugs was unbelievable, absolutely everywhere. Opened the sliding wardrobe door in our room, number 11 and they were full of rubbish, old bed and just dirty. Everywhere needs serious investment. Breakfast supplied was a continental breakfast, basic,no ham or cheese. Picture on the website shows a full English breakfast,no mention of a continental. I ended up with toast. We paid £116 for one night including breakfast and when I checked again I could have booked for £89. It wasn't worth £40. Never have a description of a property been so misleading. Never again.
The property was lovely
Personally could have been a bit cleaner, I won’t rate the breakfast tbh didn’t think was worth it. Also not much around and they didn’t have the kitchen working when we got there
Had lovely room king size bed and clean bathroom and extra things like iron and ironing board, which is handy when you have a wedding to go to yo keep clothes neat
Only thing was shower i would say was poor water was only warm and not much water very slow ,no pressure there .and unfortunately for us the kitchen was closed due to staffing issues,
Location
Wi fi didn’t work
Booked on location
The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was delicious. The value for money was excellent. The rooms, as well as the restaurant and the rest of the hotel, were well-equipped and had a typical old-English charm.
Nothing
Two helpful staff members the gentleman who set up wi fi for me and the lady with floral tattoos on reception both excellent.
When I booked online breakfast options were not clear
Old character property and plenty car spaces
Need clean paintwork & the food was unacceptable. No cooked British breakfast so on booking com photographs was misleading.
Room was fairly spacious and beds confortable.
Hotel was short staffed, so dinner stopped at 6pm, bar closed at 9pm and no cooked option at breakfast. None of this was made known prior to arrival. Hotel is also quite isolated, so no alternative eating options close by. TV in room was unuseable, as signal was continually broken. Although it served a purpose, I was expecting a little more, given the price and quoted hotel particulars.
The property and gardens were okay. The accommodation was not clean and needs updating with some vfm put in. The bathroom was shabby and on the cheap end of cheap.
The accommodation
We stayed due to attending a local wedding, which was from 1pm to midnight. It would gave been very helpful if we had been allowed to check in a bit early, so we did not have to leave the wedding halfway through to do this and also we had to change in the toilets where there is little room.
Nice room friendly staff great breakfast
No hot water when we arrived sorted by morning
Convenient place
We misplaced a pair of sunglasses and have rang on several occasions to find out if they have them (can't really be anywhere else as went into the room with them and never came back out) and no-one can answer my question
Been here most weeks for over a year. Normally amazing - staff normally amazing
Green King seem to treat loyalty with contempt. Most stays now im in the worst room by the busy road. Today large party over the road so no sleep even though up from 4. Then i find no food. No mention or apology when i booked in. So no dinner either. What an awful stay
Staff were super helpful and efficient. Bed comfortable and linen was good.
Couldn't find any bins around the grounds which was awkward as travelling with a dog. Would be good to have dog poo bins in grounds somewhere. Continental breakfast on Sunday was a shame, was looking forward to a proper traditional English cooked breakfast.
Very spacious room in separate annex. Comfortable bed. Restaurant on site was convenient and welcoming.
The TV in room lacked Freeview, i.e. n0o BBC, ITV, 4 etc and WC seat needed repair. We felt the staff were stand-ins and lacked knowledge and customer skills, but we stil enjoyed our stay!
Good location for visiting Westonbirt Arboretum and lovely Cotswolds towns.
The room was very basic, the bed quite uncomfortable, no air conditioning and very stuffy, the water pressure in the shower was so weak we could barely shower, the tiling in the bathroom quite mouldy. During the days we visited it was not possible to order a full breakfast and the kitchen was closed in the evenings as well.
Nice location, great price considering the time of year
The shower pressure was incredibly weak
Roob rather tired
Courtyard coudl do with benches and making nicer
The location
There was no cooked breakfast, the room was hot, the whole building needs attention and it needed painting
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are very clean and comfortable.
Nothing
The location The garden
Not ready for check in … my room was still being cleaned at 4pm No breakfast chef on duty on second morning of my stay - I was offered toast as a substitute. I had a long drive ahead & this was not any where near good enough service
Location was excellent and friendly manager
Water pressures very low in the bathroom, water was cold when we arrive and only luke warm. No cooked breakfast despite being on the menu and also when we booked the accommodation.
The rooms were comfy and a good size, the bathroom adequate. The pub itself, when open, was quaint, traditional, very likeable. Staff were good and welcoming The surroundings are very tranquil, picturesque, lots of parking.
Stayed 2 nights. we had to order breakfast as we checked in due to staff shortages which was rushed. Breakfast not good felt like everything pre prepared and warmed up. The rooms were very tired, need an upgrade/refresh. The bathroom was adequate very dated, and water not particularly strong. The second night no water due to a local incident which was not the fault of the property however they could have been more assertive communicating with their residents particularly as they were unable to provide any food and it was one of the heatwaves so water was required, which we then paid for. Breakfast was much better the following day even though we still were required to order in advance, however is very limited in choice.
Lovely old building, with character. All of the staff were very accommodating, but one lovely lady , Mim went over and beyond. Manager was also very helpful when there was an unfortunate incident which was completely out of his control. Food menu was very acceptable for pub/hotel restaurant. Good choice and good value. Beds were very comfortable.
Bedrooms were a bit tired, especially the bathrooms, definitely need a makeover. Couldn't open the window in the room we had, on an extremely hot week ( 35° +) unbearable, freestanding fan did help. Outside area needs a bit of tidying up as well.
The room and breakfast were great
Unfortunately temporary understaffed issues and local water cut offs spoilt my stay. There are no shops nearby so when they closed there was nothing to eat and nothing offered.
They coped well with a challenging situation when the fire brigade needed the water
Breakfast was disappointing
The staff
Friendly staff and good location if you are visiting the Amatara venue across the road
shower had zero water pressure overall bathroom was not clean missing toilet roll (which was replaced at 11.30pm so again kudos to the staff) SUPER expensive for what it is
easy to find and good off street parking
dated needs updating
general vibe of the place. very friendly staff.
outside area with playground could be kept a bit more clean.
The staff were super lovely. The accommodation was also very close to the Matara wedding venue and included parking.
The room was not very clean, and bedding in particular smelled of damp. The shower pressure was also very very weak.
The location was convenient, friendly receptionist. Quiet room.
It was a very tired room, with a cracked sink, poor sealant round the bath and no hot water. I was in room 11 which was nearly in the car park. The mattress was also tired and one of the windows was screwed shut. The wardrobe doors were stuck, but I didn't need it. There was no chef on this morning so only a continental breakfast, not what was included with the room.
Clean comfortable rooms
Nothing
Staff were so friendly and accomodating adding to thr comfort
All was great
Great accommodation, easy parking, pleasant pub facilities
Nothing
All staff were friendly & helpful Food was nice Beds were comfortable
During our stay hot breakfasts were not available only continental. But we were told we would receive a refund to compensate.
Location and really lovely staff. Very friendly and polite. Great food and breakfast.
Rooms comfortable. The hotel Needs updating, but very clean, needs some TLC. We went to Westonbirt to c a concert. Returning late at night the light for the property sign broken so it was difficult to c turning as in darkness,.minor point. Would def stay again.
The location to Westonbirt Arboretum.
The toilets in the Inn are dirty and dusty. The Annexe where we slept was filthy. The windows are rotten and covered in ivy. The furniture is dirty and worn out on the wooden surfaces. The cobwebs and dirt on the pelmet and curtains is unhygienic. 3 x sachets of coffee for 2 people for two mornings. The carpet is so dirty it crunches. Disgusting hovel.
Lovely location
Very tired inside
Location was good Rooms are looking tired need attention Especially bath rooms For the money expect better
There was no bottles water in the room No biscuits for tea Which is a basic requirement Especially for the money
Fan in bedroom
No cooked breakfast. I was told to ask you for refund as they had no chef
Close to where we needed to be
Restaurant tables were very sticky
The bed was comfy however, the room was very tired, the carpet was stained and the bath cracked, could do with some TLC
Its location .
Food was mixed. Items felt microwaved . Room was incredibly tired. Paint flaking on walls. Worn bed head. Mould to ceilings. Old sealants. Etc etc. car park in poor condition. Not really welcoming space to site outdoors late into the evening .
The food was good a good selection. Plenty of choices in their ales.
The room was very disappointing and not what I was expecting at all for a Green King hotel.
Really nice helpful and friendly staff who were courteous and professional, and welcoming. Excellent food in a traditional feeling pub. Clean and comfortable bed.
The room we had badly needed an upgrade, especially the bathroom and the whole suites' fittings. Only one bedside table was provided. Bathroom blind was dirty. Our room was on the roadside and traffic noise was loud.
The bar area
The bathroom in our room was exceptionally bad. We were not informed that it was an accessible room and were quite shocked by the wet room which smelt of damp. The floor wasn't tiled and the water from the luke warm shower flooded the floor as there was a small inadequate drain in the corner of the room. The whole room smelt musty because of the bathroom. If we had been informed about the room we were given we would never have gone ahead with the booking. We were not able to speak to reception regarding the room. as there never seemed to be anyone available. This was the worst room that we have ever stayed in. We are bitterly disappointed with the price that we paid for the room which was way below the standard that we expected.
Nice location lovely breakfast nice staff
Unfortunately we had no hot water and no heating plumbers were on site to sort by the time we got back the water was working but no heating
Great location to the wedding venue Matara. Quick resolution from the manager after a justified complaint
No bodywash in the shower and the water was cold evening and morning. Dated rooms, they could do a lot better
Clean comfortable and friendly
Friendly greeting and friendly staff, spacious room, comfortable and clean, excellent breakfast. Ideally located if attending a reception at the Matara wedding venue opposite
Struggled to get warm water in the shower
Loved the look from the outside and food was lovely
Our room was absolutely filthy! Had dirt and hair over the sheets wallpaper was filthy and mouldy floors looked like they hadn't been vacuumed. bathroom was full mould
Bedroom was good, bed good, breakfast good.
Shower room was a little squashed and bath mat would be useful.
Quiet, lovely location
It was close to the wedding venue
The staff were abrupt and made me feel uncomfortable. We’d booked a room for three people but when we got there it was only for two. They put a mattress on the floor but sent me a passive aggressive message through booking even though we’d sorted it face to face.
Clean rooms friendliness if staff
Large room, really good size bed, great value breakfast.
I like to do my own toast at breakfast. No toaster available, only kitchen order.
Location
Bathroom
Food quite good
Was fine. A bit tired. Staff average.
Location, quite happily stayed several times in the past, now it's definitely not worth more than the price we paid but probably should be less than we paid
Not enough room to list the issues, but, very tired pub, very tired room, rotten window sill replaced while we were out without prior warning while our personal possessions were on display, advertised a tuesday specials menu but we were abruptly refused it as not being available without any apology,
Convenient, cozy, clean , good pub food and friendly staff
My Sat Nav had trouble pin pointing the property as the post code gave a different location and Google gave a ‘mailing address’! Luckily a local resident in a near by town knew the property.
Great location on the main road. The staff worked really hard and looked like they were run off their feet and need more staffing. But they were lovely despite all that.
The bedroom quite dated and bathroom was awful looked really shabby and definitely needed re doing.
Comfy bed, good breakfast
Room was a bit tired, poor shower, no tissues in the room. Quite expensive for the quality of the room.
I arrived quite late but just managed to order dinner in the pub, they shut the kitchen before 9 usually. I needed to stay another night and they made sure to shift their bookings so I could stay in the same room. Very friendly and helpful staff and a lovely historic building, can't imagine how many guests they've catered for under that roof over the centuries.
Few potholes in the car park, and quite a fast road to turn in from and out onto. Drive carefully!
Lit très confortable et lieu sympa
My motorcycle buddy and myself stayed for two nights in two separate rooms with breakfast included. It was a lovely location, Doug, the manager was really hospitable, welcoming and both he and his excellent staff are a real credit to Greene King. The rooms were great and enjoying a meal and several beers in the evening in the bar was a lovely end to a day of riding around The Cotswolds. Thank you Doug for all your kindness - very much appreciated.
Everything was great and I hope to visit Hunters Hall Inn again!
Very friendly and helpful staff
The 3 staff I had contact with were all excellent in particular the chap arranging breakfast.
The shaving mirror in the bathroom is much to low unless you are a 4ft dwarf.
Lovely area
Our room was cancelled by greene king
