The hotel was in a good location. The facilities were clean with lovely new, large size towels.
An update is needed, the room was fairly shabby and whilst the water was hot it poured out of the shower like a tap (maybe the shower head is too big for the water pressure?).
The food was of a high standard regardless of whether it was pie and chips, steak or the breakfast.
The room I was it needed decorating, the taps didn’t work very well but it was warm and the staff had ensured everything was clean and tidy.
Reasonable price and good location along our travel. Good breakfast choices.
No elevator and had to drag the suitcases up the stairs.
Good quality food both for breakfast and evening meals

Staff very attentive, great food and rooms very comfortable
We enjoyed everything abt Cuckoo Brow
Stayed here to be close to the start of The Lap around Windermere, and didn’t realise it’s actually opposite a feed station. Perfect location. Water hot, very clean, rooms warm, staff very helpful and friendly. Large double bed comfortable and roomy.
Could have done with extra - or plumper - pillows. Apart from that all good.
The setting and friendliness of staff
Lovely place, staff were friendly and welcoming. Love that it was do dog friendly. Great location and great food.
Lovely location , excellent food, friendly staff. Clean room. Comfortable bed. Was excellent service.
The staff were very personable, helpful and efficient. Food was hot, tasty and well presented. The bedroom was comfortable and clean. I would suggest it is a 3 star establishment not a 4. The potential of this inn is under developed
The property needs to be refreshed, fresh paint and and the decor pulled together ( too many random pictures and objects. The olde worlde theme would then work better. It looks tired and cleanliness in public places wasn't the best. Attention to detail was lacking.
Friendly staff. Location. Peaceful.lovely bedroom. Clean
The property needs some overall refurbishment particularly in the public areas. Which detracts from the overall friendliness and warm welcome we received from the staff who work hard to make your stay good.
The shower!!!!! But no handle in bath to area to assist with getting out. !!!
Very on hygienic, Dirty ,Dusty, smelly , mattresses kneading replaced urgently, ( woke up feeling worse than I went to bed) , economy breakfast, ( cheap products) ie tinned fruit, co op bread, streaky bacon, Ashtray at the front door, parking space very tight, and the drive full of holes, New curtains and carpet needing updating, possibly need a good cleaner, with a good vacuum cleaner ,
Lovely staff ,great food, lovely location and very comfortable and clean.
Nothing
Staff were friendly and efficient. Great local walks for the dog. The evening meal (curry) was delicious. We slept well as the bed was very comfortable. The room was also clean.
The room was clean and had everything we needed. However, there is a general lack in attention to detail. Some areas are in need of an upgrade- the curtains and paint work for example. Otherwise, we had a comfortable stay.
Room was good , location good
We were in room 21 , 6 o'clock in the morning the people in the room above were so noisy with walking about . Probably not their fault as there is probably no insulation between floors.
Staff are very friendly and really make the stay pleasurable. Hearty breakfast with good quality ingredients. Quiet and peaceful location.
A couple of maintenance issues to include a fix required to have the hot water tap for the bath to work. Shower head would not stay in place on the riser . View from bedroom looked a bit shabby with old paint cans left in view and generally untidy.
We ate at the Cuckoo Brow several years ago and had an amazing meal, however this time the menu was dull and very limited. We were looking forward to staying for 3 nights and eating at the restaurant. We brought our dog with us and asked to pay £45 and then told a story about dogs being able to stay for free after mentioning they will be staying in the car!! The Cumberland breakfast sausages were not locally sourced, and the whole breakfast had not been cooked to order, but re heated. The breakfast tea were cheap tea bags, the ones in the room were a lot better and I noticed other people had brought them down to breakfast as I did the second day. We were very disappointed in our room with views of the bins. Such a shame as a great location for walking, but we will not be recommending or be returning. We checked out a day early.
The team were friendly, the service was great. The food was very good.
If anything maybe the decor, the curtains/carpets could be renewed, understand with it being dog friendly though.
Very friendly staff . Room and food of a good standard. Quiet location.
Only a small lounge area adjacent to the bar so limited seating if you wanted to sit and relax .Otherwise you had to sit in the bar . A nice beer garden but the weather didnt allow us to utilise this during our stay .
The welcome atmosphere and hospitality, combined with the incredible character of the property. The food was also incredible.
We loved the location on the Westside of the lake. We really enjoyed the friendly staff and the breakfast. Overall a very nice accommodation within the lake district.
Parking situation was a little bit difficult. Especially during dinner time. Perhaps some renovations in the bathrooms would bring it up to a 10
Location and quiet.
Plumbing of ensuite.
Accueil chaleureux Endroit calme et paisible Formidable petit-déjeuner et repas délicieux
Very good PR Staff were very ameniable
Nothing
The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice from fruit, croissants, cereal, toast and a full English. The evening meal was lovely as well. All the food was very hot and tasty
The pillows were a bit hard and flat

Very quiet with nice walks around . Also a nice walk to Windermere to catch the ferry over to Bowness . Staff were very friendly and breakfast was very good . Also a decent selection for evening meals which we had in two evenings. All in all it was a very comfortable stay and we enjoyed our break .

Location was perfect, amazing views pub had amazing homely feel.
Nothing, maybe the hills on way back so may not be great for the elderly to walk , however you can easily drive places.
Beautiful location, charming rooms and great food with very generous portions
Twin room decor was looking a little tired but the beds were very comfortable
Fantastic place, beautiful scenery. Felt so comfortable and all the staff were amazing. Will 100% be back!
Nothing!
We had a lovely four night stay here in July. Very peaceful location, and excellent value. Breakfast was wonderful, plenty of choice freshly cooked. We ate here twice during our stay, their curry was fabulous! Ferry to Windermere was a nice mile walk away through woodland. Definitely somewhere to return to.
Lovely big room and bathroom, food very good. No complaints
View from room very poor, fire escape not very appealing !!!
I have stayed here twice before and love it. The hotel and pub is lovely, nestled in the country lanes and fields of Far Sawrey. The rooms are very comfortable with good facilities and a good menu of lakes country fair. The hotel is easily accessible by Bowness on Windemere ferry, so very good as a base for exploring the lakes.
Nothing.
Lovely management team. Nice food . 3/4 mile walk to ferry terminal. 5 min trip across to Bowness.
Poor shower in room and quite expensive for food and drink.
L’emplacement, le personnel !

Nice old building with character. Friendly ambience.Quiet location. Good service at meals, main courses well presented.
Breakfast fruit salad all tinned. Some fresh fruit would be better. Toast was standard sliced bread, and only a few slices given. Menu didn’t change over 4 days.
The area was lovely and peaceful and not too far away from the busy side of the lake if that's what you prefer.
Food was OK, not a varied menu and could be better.
Fantastic spot busy in day but wonderfully quiet at night and early morning.Great staff attentive happy to chat etc.nothing too much trouble.
Nothing
Quaint and quintessential Lakes pub/inn with very friendly staff. Great that it’s dog friendly. Fab location close to Hilltop, and lots of lovely walks.
Could do with a little updating.
The hotel respects its history whilst offering modern facilities. The staff were attentive. The food was excellent.
Nothing.
the main thing we liked was the staff. they were so lovely and so helpful. we really needed a good break and we got one. would recommend to anyone.
there was nothing we didnt like
Nice friendly staff. Nice location.
If you are taking dogs, be warned, there are hidden charges that are not made clear at all when booking through Booking.com. It states in the FAQ’s “Pets are allowed. Charges may be applicable.” The additional charge (per dog / per night) is only made clear once you have paid in full, you are then sent an email with the charges, in our case, £15 per night per dog - this is added to the bill at the hotel at the end of the stay and not included in the upfront costs online. The ‘Superior Room’ refers to the room’s size and not the quality of the fittings or furnishings, which are old and tired (see photos in other reviews). The duvet was polyester and the sheets and pillow cases were poly cotton. Don’t expect a nice cotton thread count! It all felt really cheap and definitely not a treat. The waiting and house staff are friendly and approachable. They make the experience pleasant, but during our stay the hotel lacked the sense of atmosphere that made you want to stay there in the evening and you are not allowed to dine outside. We met a few couples who were lovely but the hotel felt empty, which was unusual at high season. The menu is standard pub fare, with the usual offerings (with the exception of the chicken curry). We made our holiday special by not spending too much time at the hotel! The location is good, staff were lovely, hotel really not up to standard for the price.
Marvellous location, friendly and attentive staff, welcoming us.
N.a.
Breakfast was amazing, staff were very friendly
We didn't get a spruce up of the room on the first day.
Been to quite a few around the area nice friendly welcome food good rooms always well presented have guess going again thanks for a enjoyable stay 👏👏
Great location, lovely staff. Will return in the future
Bar closes to early
Amazing place! Lovely staff, comfy and quiet and welcoming pub hotel, and incredibly beautiful scenery and good part of the lakes to escape crowds.
Only minor issue: Food was nice pub grub fine for me but my wife likes stuff that’s a bit more healthy and salady
Prima hotel en locatie
Nvt
The accommodations offered a comfortable bed and pillows, and the premises were exceptionally clean. The cuisine was delightful, and the location, situated in a quaint village, provided a beautiful and serene environment.
We found everything to be satisfactory.
Location was good for Hilltop farm (Beatrix Potter)
The property was very tired and not very clean. We only stayed one night which was enough. The stair carpet was thread bare, the bath was dirty or stained, paint peeling off in lots of places, someone’s tablet on the floor in the bedroom, which was not ours! Phone looked like it was scorched. The whole place looked liked it needed a big overhaul and deep clean. Fruit at breakfast was all tinned. You had to make your own tea at then end of the bar with a kettle.
Breakfast excellent - setting lovely
Lovely location and old world charm really nice food.
Some areas could do with a bit of updating. Shower position was pointing horizontally so you couldn’t stand under it, you had to take it off the wall to use it.
Excellent position. Very good value.
Could do with an update and refresh. However this would not stop us booking again. The service and staff were excellent.
The clean, comfortable rooms and the helpful, friendly and very accommodating staff.
Great location, a super friendly family who ran the place. Very clean and comfortable room. Huge bed, nice bath and very dog friendly. A great chef too - the food was way above average. Thank you

Perfect location for Hilltop and walks to Hawkridge and Windemere ferry. Great breakfast and menu choice for dinner. Very peacefull location .
Can't think of anything to fault this place

Run by a very nice attentive Mauritian family, they have improved The Cuckoo Brow Inn immensely with their hard work.
Air conditioning? but for the cost of the rooms and the age of the building this is not reasonable.
The staff were amazing. Super friendly and helpful throughout. It was also perfectly located for hikes and a short walk to Lake Windermere
It was a particularly hot week when we went and without air con it became quite uncomfortable in the evenings when trying to sleep. But the stables were a welcome relief from the heat.
Location, staff, food, accommodation all excellent. And great for our dog too!
Nothing
Great location
Dinner and the availability to take our dog. Garden area to front. Location excellent. Staff excellent. Lunch & evening meals were excellent.
Room was very disappointing. Not clean in places. Tiny for the amount we had paid, which was premium due to it being a bank holiday. Breakfast disappointing.
We had a wonderful stay at Cuckoo Brow Inn. The breakfast and dinner were both excellent, with delicious food and great service. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The location is fantastic—peaceful, scenic, and perfectly situated for exploring the Lake District. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to others.
Very pleasant staff good service, quiet area which we wanted. Good dog walking nearby. Very dog friendly.
Nothing really
Nice inn, lovely staff, but it needs money spending on it. Paintwork flaking, carpets dirty. Food nice, but a bit on the pricy side. All in all. Ok, but nothing special. Had better at a Premier inn for a lot less.
As was described in the advert.
Nothing
Exceptionally friendly hosts. Excellent evening meals and breakfasts. Very quiet location. Nice room.
Nothing
Super friendly staff and comfortability about the place that makes us wish we could stay longer The location is super nice and a quick drive to Ambleside, Rydal, grasmere and a quick ferry to Windermere.

Vriendelijk, ruime schone kamers
Comfy clean bed and beautiful view. The staff are so friendly
I asked to move rooms as we were there for 4 nights and they put us in a tired room at the back with literally a view of a shed roof. The room was so tired looking and the carpet was not clean. The manager rectified the issue straight away and was lovely about it. If the issue hadn't of been sorted we wouldn't of stayed. It's all very tired looking and needs a good paint and clean. But still a lovely place
Excellent Staff, very friendly, and attentive - excellent evening meal. Large room , we only stayed one night as we were travelling down the country, but would stay longer if we could to enjoy the Lake District more.
Nothing
Small friendly hotel with excellent staff which provide professional service. Great selection of beer/lager . Fantastic food
Quite beautiful location
All good
Location
Room size. No fridge. Difficult to get to if using Google maps. Take the ferry!
The property was nice and warm our room was clean and very comfortable all the staff were outstanding We had an evening meal each night the Sunday roast was exceptional and then we both had steak the second night which was done to perfection well done to Ak, Ayesha chef Switie, Yadav, and Ouma at the bar great they couldn’t do enough for us and exceptionally friendly thank you Then there was Sanjeev the manager holding a tight ship well done We our dog Blake who had a lovely time with all the attention he received We have stayed in dog friendly establishments before and this is one of the best and Blake says thank you Thank you to all of you and hope to return in the future Highly recommended
Could not fault it
Warm friendly welcome, offered to assist in whatever way they could and delivered Very dog friendly for those with dogs
Nothing aparent
Location and history Food served was exceptional very good way to start our holiday.
Shower was in need of work room 21 , fridge in room would have been useful. Bigger project = air con?
comfortable rooms and the staff very friendly and helpful
Hotel including rooms need a freshen up as they are tired, headboards do need a clean especially around the sockets which were a bit of a put off. Menu very limited and a bit on the pricey side
Very welcoming, lovely stay. Hearty breakfast, food overall excellent. Perfect stay for dogs.
Would have liked small fridge in room
We stayed for 3 nights mid week over May half term. The staff were all lovely, kind and went above and beyond to make our stay special. Location was picturesque and breakfast was 10/10. Thank you all
Near Hilltop Farm and Ferry
The staff was not very warm or particularly friendly.
Lit très grand et très confortable. Chambre dans un coin tranquille. Randonnée possible directement depuis l’auberge. Personnel acceuillant. Petit déj complet
Auberge isolée dans un petit village. Il faut une voiture si on ne veut pas manger à l’auberge, ou si on veut accéder à d’autres randonnées ou des magasins.
Clean and very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble.
Location perfect Nice big room
Wish there had been a fridge in the room
Wonderful staff, couldn't do enough for you. Great pub food.Very comfortable bed...
Nothing really.
Great position , very quiet and close to the south lakes . The breakfasts were good and plentiful . Staff were very helpful
The price didn’t reflect the decor . It was ‘ tired ‘ and needed some work . The paintwork was grubby and our bedroom window didn’t shut very well . The bedroom would have been better with a chair rather than sat on the bed .
Friendly staff, good meals
Nothing
Location was nice. Nice walks and close to Hill Top National Trust property . Staff friendly.
Location was lovely but dissapointed with the interior. We did end up booking after other family members and believe ended up with the smallest, compact room with the smallest double bed (Room 5), bathroom was very small as well with just a shower, you had to shut the door to actually use the sink. No outlook at all (other than a rear wall) It was actually a lovely sunny day outside but we had to put the lights on as the room was very dismal even with the curtains open. My relatives had different rooms and were both far superior with big bedrooms, big beds and large bathrooms and we actually paid more than them (Double standard room) . The stairs and landing look well worn and need upgrading as with the paintwork. We did ask if we could change rooms and told no. Evening meal was nice but drinks expensive . Breakfast was ok, shame not free range eggs. Would we return again? No..... until further refurbishment and secure a better room at the front of the property.
Good relaxing and welcoming. Friendly service and good value.
Slightly worn appearance of stair carpet and bedroom carpet. Given the hotel caters for dogs and walkers this was understandable.
The staff were all so lovely, nothing was too much trouble , its a lovely old building too , we stayed in room 3 , very comfy bed , good shower !! food was EXCELLENT !! drinks were very expensive tho !!
Nothing it was lovely
Very nice location and friendly efficient staff
Small en suite and not a king size bed
.The staff and food were very good Staff always had a lovely smile and greeted us well .
Sadly the Inn is in need of a lot of repair . The room - Bed was comfy Carpets were stained Curtains were stained with dirt Bathroom very small Shower was not a power shower Tap handles were loose and dripped
We had evening meals whilst staying, the food was delicious, nicely presented, and the roasts on the Sunday evening were lovely, I would definitely recommend.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
Lunch was the best roast ever, breakfast really good
