Wheldale Hotel

I wanted a budget room which is what it is. It's good value for money. I took the room with the ensuite. There was a parking space for my car.

I know it's budget but the towels are like sandpaper. I would bring my own if I was to stay again :) Also they ask not to eat in your room, it's the only place I have been with that rule.

The only thing I could mention is you had to bang the bathroom door to shut it.

It was very clean, the hosts were welcoming and friendly.

The breakfast was VERY basic, with an extra charge if you wanted to order anything cooked.

Easy to find. Nice and clean. Welcoming and helpful owners. Quiet. I was a sole female traveller and felt safe Owners on site in case of problems Good breakfast included in the price.

This is a great hotel and wow the price for what you get is amazing!! I opted for a cooked breakfast which has a more than reasonable excess. It was great and I also had some of the complimentary breakfast. Great selection of food and drink. Nothing was too much trouble. Bed was comfortable, no noise from road even though I had my window open. Tea, coffee and biscuits in the room. Showers and toilets clean. Hosts are great, couldn't fault it for what I needed it for at all.

The only issue I had that I hadn't been aware of were the steps outside to get up to the rooms. As I have disabilities, stairs, particularly big steps aggravate one of my conditions so climbing them was quite painful. I didn't say anything as it was late and didn't want to be awkward. I don't know how that could be rectified or even if it can but I didn't see a lift. That's the only reason I had to give a lower score for facilties. I made as few trips up and down as possible.

Clean, friendly staff, breakfast was a lovely touch.

Only thing for me was lack of air conditioning or fans available. The room was sweltering and the windows didnt open very far and if they did they kept slamming back shut. It was over 30degrees outside and the heat in the room was unbearable. We ended up going out and searching all nearby shops for some fans as we couldn’t take it any longer. One small thing for me was the breakfast, it’s free so it’s not a major or a complaint at all and definatly wouldnt ojt us off but there was just a little lack of choice breakfast wise. There was only bananas ojt no other fruit. There may of been some other but none when we was actually having our breakfast. Maybe we just went a little later on and it had all gone.

Stairs up to room very steep external metal fire escape stairs. Wouldn't describe seating area outside as sun terrace. In amongst scrapped car.

I liked the breakfast as it was nice and its hard to get places to make breakfast

Bad industrial neighbourhood. Right at the through road. Old neglected building. Unfriendly hostess, sending us away 9pm saying they did not accept dogs eventhough we had booked with pet and not taking any responsibility because it was suppose to be a booking.com mistake (first one for us in 40 years). Quite the opposite of service oriented hospitality with her remarks about there not being any hotel around that accepted dogs (Best Western 11 minutes away accepted our dog without a charge). So unfriendly and giving unnecessary stress and keeping our money for 2 nights where we spend 2 nights elsewhere..

Wonderfully helpful hosts - from checking in to breakfast and departure - always cheerful and ready to help. The single room was ideal for me as a touring cyclist. Breakfast was great - the fresh fruit was gorgeous

Fair price and very quite so slept well. Paul the owner was friendly and very helpful. Just small things like soap and shampoo dispenser for bathroom, hook to hang clothes in bathroom and a lock of paint in places. Nothing bad . I would stay again

Only bottled beer in bar at this time and a full English instead of continental breakfast would be great and I wouldn't mind paying. No expelair ventilation in bathroom . No soap

Location was great for the rugby and only a short walk from the train station. The manager/owner was lovely and very helpful. The room was nice and very clean. Was good value for money.

I liked everything. The beginning of my stay and then the fully surprise of getting asked from Donna to come down and have a little chat. I felt pretty welcomed with all of them. I didn't felt as a customer I felt like a person who went to a pub with good comrads. And the room? Just one word: AMAZING! I actually came on a friday when the tigers were playing I am not interested in rugby or football but the feeling of the stadium going beserke was so contagious. I wanted to join the Tigers💪🏼

Rooms were too warm. Due to my height it was difficult to open and close the window. However, the long handled shoe horn that was in the room made a good improvised window opener/shutter

Everything was perfect ,from the check in to the breakfast,,beds was so comfy,room was 10 out of 10,can't fault this place in anyway.we booked this hotel because we liked what we read on the reviews on booking.com,we drove from walsall in the West Midlands because we had had a tour of emmerdale 20 miles away from the hotel ,we could of stayed closer to our tour but we decided to stay here,so glad we did,thankyou so much wheldale hotel.10/10 on every level.

I like the location, just 15-20 mins walk from the train station. It was a small room but it was okay for one person. Tea and coffee available with a TV with multiple channnels.

Noisy after midnight! If the walls have no soundproofing, there should be a strict "no noise" after midnight rule. Somone had a TV turned on and it is difficult to sleep. Slee[ is importatnt if a long trip follows.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, good breakfast. A basic room but it meet all my needs and a bargain at the price. Note that the pub has now closed, but there are restaurants and pubs a short drive away.

Falsely advertised, facilities on booking.com stated bar, coffee bar, snack bar, wine/champagne, beer garden. The pub is actually permanently shut down with access to the rooms via a metal fire escape of which the owner warned were slippy and the outside lights were broken so in the dark a potential death trap in my opinion. We looked at the room however when my husband opened a drawer to find someone else's underwear it was the final straw and we immediately left and booked into somewhere else. I am currently awaiting a full refund from booking.com.

Only a couple of thing's,there wasn't any hand wash,but may have just been oversight!also pillows were too hard for me causing me to wake up with sore neck?!but that's my personal preference, maybe have one soft pillow left in room.eveythimg else was great!.

For the price it was as you would expect. However the pillows need changing.

The double room was warm clean, the bed was large and comfortable. Room spacious to host guests with 3 chairs available Room had with a period fireplace which was a pleasant feature. The breakfast was excellent and the owners welcoming and friendly.

Overall the room was clean but just some areas required to remedy: A few light bulbs not working - lamp on fireplace or one at the bedside. The shower bar unit one end was loose and needs tightening as it fell off. The shower took a while to heat up for some reason (time 0800) Curtains are a bit hard to pull shut/open along rails Shower tray corners need attention with some mill dew build up.

We have stopped before and Paul and his wife ( sorry can’t remember name ) was very welcoming. The room was lovely, the beds was very comfortable.

Nothing about the property but the coffee was better last time we stopped.

Staff were friendly and helpful upon arrival. The room, though small, was clean and comfortable with clean bed linen. Overall it was good value for money.

A little frustrating that check-in closed at 10, but in fairness the staff did wait and extra 15 mins for me. Though the room was spotless, clean and cosy, it was a bit small and closed-in. But it was good value for the cost of the stay.

A phenomenal breakfast, brilliant staff, Paul couldn't do enough for you. Great location for a night out in Castleford and would gladly stay again in really comfortable rooms with good privacy and very quiet surroundings.
