We loved our stay! The place is quiet, comfortable, and surrounded by nature — you truly feel like a local. It’s about a 20-minute walk downhill to town (a beautiful walk with shops and views), and just 5 minutes back by taxi. Everything was spotless — no insects at all — and María Isabel, the owner, was always attentive and kind. The kitchen has what you need for basic meals, and while the Wi-Fi is slower in the room, it works well in the common area (perfect for disconnecting anyway). The garden is beautiful, full of trees, flowers, and even a Moai. Animals roam freely — chickens, ducks, birds, calm dogs, and a lovely cat named Greta who stole our hearts. Great value for money, easy parking, and we were even picked up at the airport with a little city tour before arriving. Highly recommended!
We loved our stay at Hostal Pukao! The accommodations were comfortable & had the bonus of lots of kitties, dogs & chickens! Maria was a lovely hostess who brought us a wonderful breakfast every morning & helped us find what we needed around the island.
It's the best place to stay if you appreciate the silence and you're looking for a quiet place because is far from the town and very close to Puna Pau and that makes that at night you can see the stars so clearly. The staff is so kind and makes your stance there so enjoyful. The taste of the breakfast is fresh, natural and so delicious and also the proportion is enough. The room is so big for one person and perfect, in my perception, for two persons. A great experience for sure, if I come back to the island I'll stay there for sure!
It’s far from town (30-40 mins walk) but it’s a cool vibe, although it was quiet when I stayed there. The owner, Maria Isabel is super nice and helpful.
good
Great for kids.
The host gave us a warm welcome and it’s a whole building with two rooms and one well-equipped kitchen! The hostel located at a quiet place and natural garden with some cute little pets walking around us. It’s so lovely to stay in the hotel and have a good time on the beautiful island when we finish the local trip. Highly recommend!
Great hospitality from Maria and Maritza, also good that they have car rental which is cheaper than the outside shops. Provide daily House keeping which keeps the room nice and fresh which is rare for a hostel. Nice lounge area. Only draw back is the rooster as they make noise at 5am, also has a white duck which attacks people. It chased me and also other guests. So do keep a look out. But overall stay and very value for money!
The owner took me for a drive around to get me acquainted with the place. The room was spacious. The kitchen was stocked with the tools I needed for cooking. The places was quiet... a bit out of town. There are animals around the place... cats, dogs, chickens. It was a great place and I would go back again.
Really enjoyed my stay here, the family were very kind and welcoming and the property is beautiful.
Lovely place. Away from the city so very quite. Very very kind and warm-hearted staff. Quite relaxed one-week stay here.
Very friendly and helpful staff, nice quiet location in a relaxing atmosphere. Showers were either scalding hot of freezing cold
Lovely location, it is a 15-20 minute walk to the town but enjoyable on quiet roads. Green surroundings, big garden area you share with chickens and kittens.
It was an excellent stay at Hostal Pukao. We were treated as family members from airport pickup to seeing us off. Highly recommend.
A conseiller!
Very welcoming and attentive guests. Property surrounded by farms and away from the city buzz. Great experience!.
Large, clean comfortable room with a terrace with view onto a beautiful garden. Located in a quiet area within walking distance to the Main Street. Excellent breakfast and great hosts.
Was second time in my life someone was waiting for me with flower necklace at airport . That was Maria cheerful welcoming and we immediately clicked. I’m list I felt I was home the whole stay. Beautiful manicured garden, A perfect setup for few rooms she manages. Maria always asked if i needed a ride to town although I prefer to walk. Right after pickup she gave me the gran tour of the island especially my first Moai. Loved the juices in the morning breakfast. Le coup de gras was the last night of stay Maria hosted a tuna barbecue wine and all. I have stayed while traveling on motorcycle in thousand of place and Maria Pukao hospitality comes on top. The best hospitality so far! Thanks Maria!
A distancia do centro atrapalha sim.
Our host Melissa has been very friendly and helpful, picked us from and to the airport, and drove us around for a quick tour in the main area, adviced some nice restaurants to go. The hostel is located 15 minutes drive away from the main street (car rental is highly recommended), but sets in a natural environment with horses, chicken and dog. room is quiet and spacious, clean kitchen separated from room, and beautiful starry sky at night. Melissa made us very nice and fresh breakfast too! Particularly loved the fruit juice. a perfect escape for us.
Great breakfast. Fresh fruit juice every morning. Lots of animals for small children to play with. My kids were never bored. Great place for people with small children.
A comfort, quiet and neat place although it usually took me around 30 mins to walk to center of town. Surrounded by many animals such as dogs, cats, horse, birds and chickens you may love this place if you are a animal lover. The host helped a lot, friendly, and love to share everything she knows about the island and prepared delicious breakfast with fresh juices and fruits. Highly recommend!
Miss Maria was a fantastic host. She went out of her way to take us places and tell us about her island. She makes an amazing breakfast with fresh juice daily. Even though, we didn't speak much Spanish, she tried her best at English and taught us a few things. The place is a little out of town, but it's walkable and part of the charm.
We stayed at this hostal for almost a week, the best thing we love about here is the breakfast, the host prepares different kinds of delicious foods and juices everyday, and it's like brunch to us so we could almost skip lunch everyday. The distance to downtown is about 15-20mins of walking which isn't too bad and you get to enjoy walking in the residential areas a bit.
And this nice hotel is the best spot where you can find time and mood to get all the impressions in line.
Hostal op 25 minuten lopen vanaf Hanga Roa. Fijne en rustige plek om te verblijven. Groene, grote tuin. Eigenaar Maria Isabel is top.
Isabel, the owner, made a lot of effort towards making the stay pleasant, including providing a tour of the main town when you reach the island, airport pick-up and airport drop-off. The room was basic, but had hot water and was cleaned everyday. The place was pleasant - it had kittens and puppies and was amazingly green. The wifi is also good for Easter Island (though don't come to Easter Island expecting to do anything like plan your trip). The main issue I had was more of a general issue as Easter Island is not a place suitable for people who don't drive and the hostel is 20 min walk from the main town. The people of Easter Island (not including taxi drivers and taxi companies who are extremely unreliable and try to get as much money out of tourists as possible) are lovely and would offer to send you to your destination if they see you walking, but it would probably be better to stay in the main town if you don't know how to drive (or learn how to drive before going to Easter Island).
About 20 minute walk from the main part of town. Friendly owner, who gave a tour around town. Simple but delicious breakfast, including fresh juice, and eggs or pancakes every morning. Lot of animal noise around, which added to the rural feel of the area. Relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Pick up from and back to the airport. Relaxing place and large gardens with some friendly animals and people
Wonderful hotel- simple but fantastic hospitality and lovely grounds. Delicate breakfasts and playful animals. The owner is absolutely amazing and takes great care of the guests. You feel like you are part of the family.
Our stay was wonderful and this despite the fact we had to stay in the island for four additional days due to an airport staff strike in Chile. Maria Isabel, Gonzalo and Nelson made our stay a lovely experience in a wonderful island such as Rapa Nui. The breakfast was wonderful, room was clean and tidy and they were very helpful and make us feel comfortable as we were at home. Beautiful hostel with a lot of animals including the beautiful horse Bella!
Great value for the money. Maria, the owner, was extremely helpful and friendly, it felt like visiting with a friend, we really enjoyed our stay at her place.
The owner (Maria Isabel) was very accommodating and made you feel at home. The breakfast prepared each morning was delightful and homemade. Also, the other thing that we enjoyed staying at this place was the owner's adopted mare (female horse) who was very affectionate and friendly. The owner was accommodating to our special requests such as making necessary reservations for our car rental and dealing with delayed delivery of luggage.
Quiet place
The best place you can stay, Maria Isabel is warm, knowledgable, kind and make you feel like you are at home. On arrival she right away took us on a tour of hanga roa, and show us around. Every morning she have fantastic breakfast, with fresh juice, coffee, French eggs. There plenty to do in the island, but also to took to Maria Isabel about the history of the island and the her family root, she show us pictures, and discuss the latest island news over a good bottle of wine, we have a memorable trip that to her and hostel Pukao hospitality...really hard to match.
I stayed in the 1 person bedroom for 5 nights. It says single bed when I booked, but it was actually a comfortable double bed. The room has a private washroom. Maria was very very nice. Her english was conversational. She picked me up at the airport and gave a tour of the town. She also drove me to town book a tour with Manitaur for the first 2 days. Breakfast was home made by Maria every morning with eggs, bread, meat and fresh juice. The location is out from town, and walking takes 30min to reach. Maria has dogs, cats, horses and chickens at her hostal so it would be nice for animal lovers. The wifi could only be reach by the deck outside of your room, and it was very weak most times. I was able to send a message but not upload any photos. Overall it was a very nice stay and I would stay there again.
Location is a little far from central, but the service is great.
Pukao stands out because of the owners/hosts. Nelson picked us up at the airport, gave us a first tour to the village and showed us our first Moai. Isabel prepared a wonderful breakfast on the deck. And both gave us a lot of insights into Rapa Nui culture, stories, legends, food and places. Nelson organised a unforgettable canoe trip for us, so we got a real polynesian experience.
We were collected from the airport and given an introductory tour of Hanga Roa. Maria Isabel was a wonderful host that even took my family with 3 children on an excursion when they arrived. The setting of the Hostal is beautiful, with a large lawn, and attractive trees including bananas and guavas The accommodation is spacious and comfortable with immaculately clean rooms and private bathrooms. Breakfast was delicious with local produce. Maria Isabel is a native and knows the history and local traditions which added to the magic of this beautiful island. She is always ready to advice. The Hostal is about 20-25 minutes walk from town and car rental was important to us; we rented it from Maria Isabel too at a competitive price. Transport back to the airport when departing was also provided.
The rooms were very spacious and clean. The breakfast was fantastic and served at our door every morning...and cooked just before being served! It included delicious eggs cooked with vegetables and meats along with breads and honey/jam and coffee/tea and fresh juice. The location is about 1 mile outside of the town center, so we recommend renting a motorbike since it's quite a far walk. You can rent bicycles or motobikes for a good price right at the hostel, just ask. The island is big enough in general that a moto is much better to get around than a bike would be unless you want to bike for hours just to see one site. The hotel picked us up from the airport and greeted with fresh flower leis. They also dropped us off at the airport for our departure. Loved our stay here! Gracias!
Staying at Hostal Pukao was by far the decision I made when visiting EI! The hostess, Maria Isabel was hospitable, friendly and elevated our entire experience on the island and helped us tap in to the authenticity of the Rapa Nui people. We started each morning with a fresh breakfast (fresh juices, omelets, breads, cheese, sausages, tea and coffee) laid out for us on the deck. We spent most of morning just relaxing on the grounds of Hostal Pukao; breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the company of the neighbor’s dog whom we named “Jeffrey”. The rooms were very clean and there were no bugs or insects inside. Maria Isabel also helped us coordinate various activities on the island and gave us a full tour of the main parts on Hanga Roa on the first day. She also rented us her bicycles which we used every day to travel in to town and to travel around the island as well. The hostel is about 1km away from Hanga Roa so having a mode of transportation comes in handy. If you mention it to her ahead of time, she will arrange for a taxi service the night before (which cost around 35,000 – 50,000 pesos for an all-day adventure). I was debating between a pricey hotel and Hostal Pukao prior to making my reservation. I’m so glad that I decided on Pukao instead! If you want an authentic experience of Easter Island and the Rapa Nui people along with all the basic comforts, stay at Hostal Pukao.
The hostel is located close to the city of Hanga Roa, but not in the center, 15 minutes way walking. In consecuence, it is a very quiet place, really relaxing ambient. The rooms are great, very big and comfortable bed, and very clean. As it is in the woods, there are trees where you can take mango and papayas to eat. The girl who attendes the house is really kind, and she serves great breakfast too. It is much better tan other more expensive hostels I have been to. I would love to visit the island again, and of course, I would repeat my staying at Pukao Hostel.
