Provider-sourced guest reviews.
We had 2 courses. One beef and one pork roast. Really flavoursome and fresh. Decent portion of meat and veggies and staff were really pleasant and attentive. Maybe a little more attention to placing older couples between young families with babies and young noisier families but otherwise a good visit. We will return.
No kids tonight so we went for dinner. First time indoors, have only had a beer in their garden before. On line booking was easy. Staff very welcoming on our arrival. The menu is good and catered well for my dietary needs. We shared some artisan breads and hummus to start then both had fish. Mine was roasted hake and the OH had catch of the day - sole. It was all cooked really well - and we had room for desert which was beautifully presented. Our waiting staff were attentive and service was good.
Went to The Cliff House for a group Christmas gathering. We were a party of approx 20 people. The traditional Christmas lunch was excellent. Really good quality as I’d expect from The Cliff House. The service was good as well. Bobbie and Anna in particular. I’d also like to mention the manager, Jordan. Nothing is too much trouble.
We have just returned home having spent 2 nights at The Cliff House and I cannot recommend this hotel enough, we had a fabulous weekend! My husband and I stayed with our dog Milo. We were in the Biscay room which is on the ground floor with a front door to outside, a nice large room with large ensuite shower, perfect for the dog. The location is excellent for exploring the area, parking is great, a really lovely modern hotel beautifully decorated. The staff were all amazing, super helpful nothing is too much trouble. And the food!!! well just fantastic, we ate here both nights as the menu suited us well, and the food was very very good definitely did not disappoint....wine options and advice from the manager on pairings absolutely spot on. A really wonderful autumn break, so glad we found you Cliff House!!! you really were wonderful. We were also able to dine with our dog. Oh and breakfast....a very chilled / laid back affair...until next time!! As I'm sure we will be back! Thank you Cliff House team xx
My sister took me for a treat and it was a lovely treat. The 3 course set menu I had seared tuna salmon and passion fruit cheesecake delicious and excellent value. The girls who served us were delightful friendly and attentive. We had our 2 dogs with us. We had a perfect evening. Would love to go back maybe stay in the hotel. The waitress recommended The Lighthouse in Milford on Sea which we will try . She told us they're good employers which is nice. No complaints
The place was in a lovely spot. The staff were very friendly/attentive.Rooms were clean and comfortable. A lively/popular spot, especially at weekends.
Am surprised at the negative reviews for The Cliff House, we have visited twice once for lunch last year and this year dinner and cannot fault our experience. An amazing atmosphere very friendly welcoming staff with brilliant cocktails. The food was amazing too, lovely fish dishes , just a little tip, the fish cakes are huge they do serve two as our waitress told us there were complaints when they only served one. Will be booking again next year when we are on holiday.
Friendly helpful staff - perfect
Thank you to everyone at the Cliff House for a very relaxing three night stay. The room itself was clean, spacious and the bathroom very large and stocked with beautiful shampoo, conditioner, etc.. We took our dog who appreciated the chance to walk on the cliff top which is virtually outside the door! As per other reviews, the staff were very attentive and welcoming and the evening meal on our first night was excellent. We will definitely be making another trip in the near future, thank you.
Great location, food, accomodation and pleasant staff.
Clean room staff very friendly and helpful 👌
Fantastic room overlooking the Solent, really nice friendly staff, owner (I think) is very attentive, great for dogs and their owners. Nothing was too much trouble. We will be back. Car park has plenty of room so the comments on here don’t make sense? Breakfast was just perfect.
We ordered flatbreads . The service was quick. We were not given cutlery or napkins. The prawn and smoked salmon flatbread was extremely disappointing.tasteless and badly presented with some rocket thrown on the flatbread. The tomato and mozzarella flatbread was also disappointing and tasteless. The tomatoes were not very fresh and the mozzarella cheese was cheddar not mozzarella as stated. Total lack of seasoning and presentation . We will not return for food as we were planning a family get together as the scenery is perfect. We were not asked how are meal was ,if we had been asked I would have told them how very disappointing the food was.
What an absolute shambles! On top of an expensive menu the service was shocking. Went here to celebrate a 30 birthday. They took 40 minutes to take our order, 45 minutes to bring the starter. Then no-one came to order pudding but they bought the bills for our tables and told us we had to vacate the tables! When we said we hadn't had pudding, they simply didn't care and continued to hand out bills. On top of that, they wouldn't take of the deposit and decided to refund it to the person who paid it. Now they have to take a significant amount of time, requesting bank details and returning deposits. Ridiculous! Not a good experience. Won't be going back
Lovely restaurant. Amazing views, superb food, attentive and friendly staff. Recommended. The hake was fab as was the seared tuna starter. They also served a local real ale which was excellent.
Fantastic hotel, brilliant staff, food 5 star, would recommend this venue for everyone who enjoys all of the above.
Wonderful room, amazing food and fantastic staff!
We had a good time at the cliff house rooms were pleasant and comfort level was ok. Breakfast in the morning was nice and service was excellent.
Location was great, service very friendly first course very good, main course and dessert was outstanding!!! All in all a lovely experience!
Absolutely loved our 2 night stay here, one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in. Super friendly staff from the moment we walked in, nothing was too much trouble, they are genuinely invested in making each and every guest feel valued and welcome. We stayed in Portland and it was a delightful room; spotlessly clean with a stunning view of the needles. Nice little freeview tv with all apps available to log into. Food and drinks really good. Try the spicy mango margarita, absolutely bang on ;) thanks to all for making my daughter's A Level results day so memorable and positive. We will be back for sure.

What a lovely Hotel :) The location is truly beautiful, beautiful views and lovely walks. Lovely room with very spacious bathroom and comfortable king size bed. We had a pet friendly room which was great as had our own door so could leave and take our dog out when we wanted. Room was very clean and lovely. The only slight downside was as the room is by car park it can be noisy but it’s bearable:) The Staff were truly amazing 🤩 the way they greeted us for breakfast and lunch was amazing:) So helpful and lovely :) would definitely go back :) Breakfast was lovely and and lunch also :)
Hi Hayley, Steve, Kerry and Donald. We celebrated my wife’s birthday yesterday with our family, I can say what a fantastic birthday lunch. The fabulous waitress we had was so professional and engaging, she really is a credit to herself and The Cliffhouse.Thank you so much. The food was OUTSTANDING from start to finish. It is obvious high quality ingredients are used as you can taste every individual ingredient. The atmosphere was also fantastic and it is plain to see THE CLIFFHOUSE is a professionally run business. Recently we dined in a very well known restaurant in London and I can honestly say it wasn’t even close to the CLIFFHOUSE. Steve and Hayley you are a credit to the industry and long may it continue. Thank you all once again. Paul Leccacorvi.
The Cliff House is one of our favourite restaurants in the area. James and his team always make everyone feel welcome. The staff are extremely attentive. One overheard us toasting my friends birthday and, without any overt prompting from anyone, presented him with a lovely Happy Birthday dessert and a discreet "Happy Birthday" without any cringe worthy singing lol! The restaurant is a relaxing, comfortable environment, and the food is consistently amazing and great quality, enhanced by a great selection of wines and delicious cocktails! Thanks again for an amazing evening!
Just went in for drink and snack. Offshore Lager for me, great. Zero alcohol Lager on tap for my wife, unusual and great feature. Young staff absolutely lovely. Views over IOW stunning. Had whitebait light bite between us. Chef made tartare sauce brilliant, whitebait beer battered and chef cooked. As good as any I've had. Georgious outside bar with zero wait for service even though most of garden tables occupied. Just can't fault.
I’ve visited this pub several times before while on holiday and have always loved the location and the atmosphere. It’s usually a highlight of our trip — beautiful setting, lively crowd, and generally great vibes. But unfortunately, this time I left feeling disappointed and quite frustrated. I went to the bar where there were plenty of staff around and no one else waiting. Two staff members (who I believe were managers) were right in front of me, chatting and experimenting with cocktails, but didn’t acknowledge me at all — no eye contact, no “we’ll be with you in a moment,” nothing. I stood there for about 5 or 6 minutes feeling completely invisible. Eventually, another staff member asked if I’d been served — which I appreciated — but by then I felt dismissed and honestly quite embarrassed. I’m not someone who usually complains, but I felt like I wasn’t worth the time or attention, and that’s not a nice feeling as a customer. This place has so much going for it, but basic courtesy and professionalism from staff make all the difference. I hope this was a one-off, but it really let the experience down this time.
Really comfortable room, excellent food in restaurant, good parking and pleasant and friendly staff
The staff were great friendly and helpful The bar and restaurant were very good and the surrounding areas were lovely
Fabulous stay - my 4th or 5th at this property, amazing food & that includes the breakfast & stunning views. Parking, especially if you're in a large van etc. can be a wee bit tight sometimes, but the adjoining streets are free & normally not too clogged.
Amazing stay would return breakfast delicious staff so friendly and helpful customer service is definitely still alive here perfect place for our wedding anniversary stunning views
Stunning part of the UK. Been many times. Fantastic food and drink quiet stunning beaches. A must if you like the finer things in life
Good place to say by the sea with lovely views the staff were really good although it is a bit noisy in the evening because of the bar
We like the position, dog friendly, good shower, pleasant breakfast, excellent size bed. Dislike, sink too small in bathroom? TV out of date no apps to be able to sign in to own accounts. why the blind in the room was only half the height of the window?
The Cliff House was an excellent resto-pub with rooms. We bagged the last room and although a bit on the small side (which he had been advised in advance), it was well appointed and scrupulously clean. The bed was very comfortable and the furnishings had a nautical theme. Food was outstanding and great value. Staff were delightful and most helpful. The beer garden was a bonus too. A great little spot overlooking the Channel.
We had a fabulous time! The food was superb, the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Anna was lovely and so was all the other staff members and the manager was so welcoming when we arrived! Our room was perfect. The view was amazing of the Isle of White and was just beautiful get away for a birthday celebration.
Very nice location and excellent food, with stunning views across the solent at very reasonable prices. Situated in a very nice part of the south coast. It also offers accommodation for those interested in spectacular views out to sea. You can also take breakfast or afternoon tea or even a coffee break
Fab hotel and vibe, good food , great staff and location
Great place to eat, we stopped off for lunch. Managed to get a table with an amazing view over the Solent.. Ordering was easy simple and quick. Food was of a great standard and was served professionally and quick.. Overall, I will return and look forward to visiting again..
I really haven't wanted to write this review as it was always one of our favourite restaurants, however the last 4 visits have been disappointing. The restaurant, and their sisters ones, used to have a real ethos of super friendly staff and that seems to be lost. You feel staff have no interest in pretending to be cheerful and enjoy their place of work. Food is now very average and prices cannot be justified. It also felt grubby. The table we were sat at had crumbs on the chair and floor. Please cliff house, go back to what you did so well at the start.
Service Good, Food Excellent, Bedroom way to Small for the Money
Everything about the property was incredible. The welcome from Jordan and just the way it felt like home from home
Stayed for one night only in a single room. Room was very clean, bed comfortable and shower hit and bathroom very clean. Yea and coffee making facilities too. Overall very good value for money
Staff are welcomjng and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Our room was warm, comfortable and well appointed. The view from our room would have been stunning had it not been for rain and mist. Views of Isle of Wight and Hurst Castle. . . . Plenty of coffee, tea etc. Shower room was clean and bright, with big soft towels galore. Food in the restaurant was delicious and service great. We have already booked to go back later in the year!
Lovely hotel, welcoming staff and delicious food. One night stay and would highly recommended.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, James was a credit to the business. It was an effortless check inn. Also was sat down to dinner after a quick freshen up. Food was lovely and attentive staff. Thank you very much.
Staff are very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Service at meal times is excellent - staff checked on how we enjoyed the meal and to see if there was anything
My wife and I stayed over the valentine weekend and also took our dog. The whole venue including the restaurant is dog-friendly and all the staff are very pleasant. As the name suggests the hotel is right on the cliff overlooking the sea. Our room was vey nice and despite being a "dog room" was very clean. We will definitely be returning aging in the future.
What a great weekend stay we had at the Cliff house. The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. Our room (Wight) was great value, minimalist and modern with some amazing views of the Isle of Wight. The cooked breakfast was fabulous and the service (provided by Heather) was ‘spot on’. We would highly recommend the Cliff house, and would definitely stay again.
We arrived later than we expected, the restaurant and bar area was busy, but we were immediately recognised as new arrivals, with a smile and friendly welcome. We were immediately shown our room and asked if we were happy with it and if we required anything else. We were provided with information about breakfast and how to access the hotel after hours should we require it. Our room (Wight) was the smallest (our choice) but it was warm, outstandingly clean, as was the en-suite and of a beautiful, contemporary and stylish design. As expected, towels, hairdryer and fan were of an exceptional quality. The bathroom was well stocked with full size, New Forest aromatherapy toiletries. A lovely selection of teas, coffees and bottled spring water were provided in our room. The included choice of breakfast was the best we’ve ever eaten (we opted for the full English). Heather who attended to us on our first day was friendly and helpful, as were the bar staff (who loaned us a corkscrew) and the manager Jordon. I was born and bred in this area, now living in Cornwall and was thrilled to receive such a high standard of hospitality.
Friendly staff. Good room. Great breakfast. Very close to the sea… wonderful
Brilliant and comfortable.
Just got back from cliff House, 15 pounds 2 course speicle meal,,, we had fish cake añd salad and chips ,it was a very good meal tasty and looked good, followed by a pudding of sticky toffee pudding, great pudding could not fault the whole experience, staff very friendly, had a great night, thank you
The property and staff are fantastic, the only thing I’ll do differently next time is change to a rear facing room as the sea view room we had was very noisy but that was obviously down to people enjoying themselves on a Saturday night.Unfortunately we had to leave early Sunday meaning we tried to get an early night but already looking forward to our next visit. Many thanks Gary and Liz

I had the most delicious and plentiful Christmas 2 course lunch. Quality ingredients plus good presentation, with attention to detail. Gorgeous pavlova with cranberries and fresh orange slices! Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.
Great stay
An absolutely delicious meal for my daughter's 21st birthday. Every dish was delicious. Catered well for gluten free. It's relatively expensive for a pub but you do get what you pay for. The festive menu at 2 courses for £25 or 3 courses for£30 is exceptional value though so would recommend booking in for December while that's an option. The service was also perfect which given most of us there work in hospitality was noted and much appreciated as we are harsh critics!
Advertised as sea view but no sea view as a marquee has been erected blocking the view!
The room inside was ok but lost power in the morning and you could hear the hand dryers from the restaurant until it closed. Outside the room was the issue. The entrance to the Biscay room is right next to and between the bins! If you can overlook this you might not be able to miss the noise when they dump rubbish and bottles every so often. Don’t choose this room.
Staff, room food were all excellent. Very dog friendly. Spacious well equipped room. Only issue was the noises from other areas of the hotel. Possible a hand dryer. This would not stop us booking again. It was lovely.
Went for the 2 courses for £15 weekday deal. The food was good but the portion sizes were way too small. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
The hotel had a beautiful Seaview the staff were amazing always smiling and so friendly we stayed in a room at the side entrance of the hotel stayed for 3 nights food was really good I'd definitely go again and recommend to couples needing a break from it all .
Very friendly , helpful staff. Hotel and our room was very contemporary and extremely clean . Added bonus was a sea view from our room. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will certainly return for another visit.
Super helpful and friendly staff, cannot fault them. Only one downside was I my room was situated near a noisy exterior ventilation / fan system which prevented from opening the window in the room.
Such a fabulous - brilliant single room, amazing food lovely (& good looking ) staff & superb breakfast . If i'm (or any of my staff ) need to stay in this part of the world this is our absolute favourite hotel . Super helpful & a wonderful place to stage **********
We held our wedding party at The Cliff House and cannot thank them all enough for such a wonderful time. The staff and the manager Steve, could not do enough to make our day special. It all went to plan, both the marquee and the food were wonderful and our guest feedback has been fantastic. We are so happy we chose the hotel and now have the best memories of a magical day. Thank you so much.
My husband and I went for Sunday lunch to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly and shown to our table. We had a lovely roast dinner followed by an absolutely delicious dessert. We were surprised with a celebratory pudding dish too. I would recommend the restaurant for an informal meal. The service was excellent and the staff very pleasant and efficient.
The staff were all very friendly polite and helpful. Also the Cliff House is extremely clean . We enjoyed three night's ...couldn't fault anything
The Cliff House has a stunning view of The Solent across to The Isle of Wight...we had a superb stay, the rooms are comfortable and clean...as is the entire hotel. ALL of the staff were friendly polite and welcoming...I would recommend this Hotel to anyone...we stayed 3 nights and will look forward to our next visit.
Hotel and location were excellent and all the staff are out of this world. They could not do enough to help.
The Cliff House never fails to deliver anything other than an exceptional visit. Last night we were there for a celebration meal. The food as always was excellent and staff so welcoming and attentive. If you’re new to the area and looking for a place to eat and/or drink, then there is only one place to go….and by the way, the views are stunning. Thank you!
Great breakfast
Great place very friendly staff
Great staff, spotless room, fantastic location and very welcoming for a solo traveler.
Lovely stay. Friendly staff, great views, tasty food, nice atmosphere and very well kept.
Stumbled across The Cliff House while looking to book a quick few days away prior to my husbands upcoming operation. We saw it during a search, liked it and as it had dog friendly rooms, we booked. WOW! What a find! Fabulous location, views across to the Isle of Wight and The Needles, stylish outside and interiors. Very clean and comfortable rooms and amazing food. However, it was the lovely, friendly, accommodating staff that really made The Cliff House. We were looked after so well and we now have our new 'go to' place!
The location was absolutely stunning.
The welcome, the drinks, the food and overall service were outstanding. My wife and I are regulars at The Cliff House, as we live locally, however on a sunny Thursday 20th June we had lunch there. All the above prevailed that afternoon and our special thanks go to Jordan, the manager and Briony who looked after us. You are excellent
Called in without a booking with our two dogs and they found a table for us in the area for dog owners . We were offered a very good selection of meals for my vegetarian wife along with a nice selection for myself . Service was very good and the meal sizes were great , highly recommended the biscoff cheesecake .
We have spent two nights at the Cliff House Hotel l, with my friend & two small doggies. Our room was ideal for dogs, spacious, large bathroom, & easy access to dog walks. Staff were exceptional, nothing was too much for them, I would like to congratulate the expertise of all for the running of the hotel & restaurant and show gratitude to excellent service. Joel & his team are very friendly. Food is excellent, thank you to the chefs, will definitely be returning. Room very clean.
The staff are all lovely - this is the 2nd time I have stayed here as it's close for visiting relations. Rooms are lovely except that you can't really open the windows (in the rooms I've been in) as they open over the roof where the extracted fans are for the kitchen :( Food is excellent - had breakfast & evening meals there. Will definately stay here again!
Absolutely brilliant. Lovely views out to see. Great food and at a reasonable price considering the prime location. Perfect place to sit out and have a drink and bite to eat as you watch the world go by . A wide range of food including an outdoor bar and snack menu.
Lovely small hotel. Very friendly staff. Great location by the sea.
Although this is a hotel, its more of a restaurant with rooms now. So it was quite noisy and busy in the evenings, with live music on one evening. However the music/bar closes promptly at a reasonable hour so not a huge problem. The staff are lovely and the restaurant food was fabulous. So much so that we ate far too much...It sits on the cliff top and we were able to hear the waves crashing overnight to lull us too sleep, not our first stay and wont be the last.
My wife and I stayed at The Cliff House for three nights and had a good time. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the food was superb, especially the "Full Works" breakfast which was cooked to order.
This hotel was excellent in most respects. However, for my wife who has mobility issues the lack of a lift to the rooms was a big issue. There was also no lounge where she could sit as all public areas were either busy bars or restaurants open to the public so after 12.00 there was nowhere where she could escape to except the room. We should have tried to book the one room on the ground floor suitable for wheelchair users. The staff did their best to make her comfortable. The food was excellent.
What a lovely couple of days at the hotel. Rooms very cute, clean and very comfortable. We stayed in room called Wight which had lovely views across to the Needles and having two windows gave us a lovely bright room. We ate at the restaurant, the food was delicious, high quality produce breakfast and dinner Somerset rack of lamb and local fish were top class. The staff were brilliant no matter who you spoke to. We will be back, thank you team.
Absolutely excellent. Clean, friendly, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was overlooking the sea, very clean and comfortable. The staff are so helpful and always very pleasant and certainly look after you. Restaurant food was absolutely delicious and the service wonderful. Even though the resraurant was very busy each night, we never had a long wait for our food. Will certainly look forward to returning .
Great location for coast and forest. Staff were very helpful all the time and really friendly. Would highly recommend it for a get away
Two nights in betwixtmas. I was amazed at how busy the place was with downstairs diners and drinkers. The car park was very busy (although there was room for me quite close to the door). The noise from all this barely has any impact once in one's room. I thought the breakfast was good, plentiful and a decent choice. My room was on the small side but a good shower room and comfy bed so the essentials were fine. TV a bit weak but maybe it was because it was blowing a gale outside. Had dinner one evening but that seemed a bit expensive - however given how busy the tables were it clearly isn't an issue locally. Great view on a nice day (it was bleak) and staff efficient.
Convenient position for great walks
lovely location, , very welcoming, good size room, good quality bedding, very clean room. wonderful breakfast.
Amazing little place by the sea. The staff were warm and welcoming, the food was delicious and our stay was perfect.
Great for a short break, lovely costal views, good location for exploring the coast and New Forest.
Een jong en gezellig team, tijdens ons verblijf was er elke dag muziek in de tuin.
All of the staff were super friendly and very helpful. They certainly know how to make guests feel welcome. The room was perfect and the food served at their restaurant in the evening and for breakfast was above and beyond expectations. I will most certainly recommend the this hotel and if I find myself in the area again I would most definitely stay again. Many thanks to the entire team.
Lovely location. Beautiful views across to the Isle of Wight and amazing sunset. Live music in the garden Sunday night was an added bonus. Breakfast was great and didn’t need to eat again until the evening! Staff very friendly. Well done Cliff House Hotel. We will be back.
The location was ideal overlooking the sea and the staff were excellent.
I booked the hotel for a last minute escape to the sea side over bank holiday. Was looking forward for peaceful time. The restaurant and outside area were very busy both nights. It didn't disturb by sleep, so I was ok with this. If you are looking for a quiet escape, check with the hotel about the evening plans. Otherwise everything was great.
