Turks Head Rothbury

Extra large room. Comfortable bed. Loved the matching wallpaper and curtains. Large, roomy shower. Effective heating system. Large, tasty cooked breakfast. Friendly and welcoming staff. Close to Cragside National Trust property.

Stayed 2 nights. Ate in the hotel restaurant the second night. Good home made chips, with my scampi. Don’t normally eat dessert but the child in me was attracted to the Cadburys chocolate sundae with assorted Cadbury’s items. Very disappointed inner child when one of the key ingredients was missing. On expressing disappointment to staff it was apparent that this ingredient has been missing for some time and they have just been serving the dessert without it. I pointed out the error of their ways and they assured me that the ingredient would be purchased… No issues the first morning, with breakfast. Large portion and very tasty. Second morning there was a table of 8 in the restaurant and only one waitress. This caused problems with waiting to order and then being served my own breakfast. More staff needed when there are large numbers on tables for breakfast.

The room was dark, there being only a small window. The mattress was too soft & needed replacing. The door opened onto patio steps which I thought were dangerous.

Music in the bar can be heard in the room so wasn’t able to sleep until after 11pm.

Breakfast was wonderful. The room was great and spacious, beds were comfortable. People were very friendly and nice, and even allowed us to check out a few minutes late.

Our room was above the bar and was very loud until after 11pm. Even once the patrons left, we could hear the staff chatting back and forth as they closed up. My shower in the morning wasn't great since the water temperature kept swinging wildly...so I recommend picking a time to shower when they are not doing laundry and other guests aren't using a lot of water. Using ear plugs, I would certainly stay again!

We had a really good room, which had a separate sitting area.

The first night was exceptionally warm, not the host’s fault, just the weather but the rooms were too hot. An extra light weight duvet might have helped.

breakfast was 1st class , staff very friendly and hard working and the location was very good.

we didn't want a dog friendly room but they put us in room 5 what is a dog friendly room and we said we asked for a non dog friendly room so they put us in room 4 but this is still a dog friendly room. we just accepted the room and at first you could smell dog , I took an anti allergy tablet and after a walk out we came back in and found the room ok . The room itself was clean and spacious.

We had the garden room which was perfect as we had a dog, the room had a bedroom and a lounge with a sofa. Staff were fantastic and made us feel we belonged can’t fault it

A great pub. all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Good pub food, well served. Rothbury is a great location to explore this part of the beautiful county of Northumberland.

Helpful staff. I had the Garden Room which is not surprisingly located slightly away from the main building in the garden making for a quite stay. Food was good both in the evening and morning. Security for cyclists and a single small motorcycle is excellent being at the rear of the property. Good location if visiting Gragside.

TV didn't work on all channels (no BBC 1 for instance). Some mould around shower base. Blackout blind in bedroom broken.

Lovely location in the middle of Rothbury. Room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. The staff were very good. Friendly and helpful. The food is great. Home cooked and really tasty. Nice unpretentious menu and prices are reasonable. A good base for getting around Northumberland inland and the coast.

An absolute carnage of booking in. Booked a twin..didnt happen. Gave everyone a single room. All my gear out after a hard day in cycling. T made about to take a shower asked to move into another room. The lady in our group of 7 was having a shower , knocking on the door and asked to move room !!! Told staff to come back when she had dressed !! Should know on a pre booking months ago where everyones rooms will be. Cant be too difficult. Really inconvenianced the group as a whole

First class cooked breakfast in this basic but welcoming inn. Room was spotless and spacious and the location in the centre of Rothbury, close to the National Trust's Cragside (the reason for our visit), and the beautiful river Coquet was perfect. Staff were young but very professional, the housekeeper was great fun and extremely friendly and helpful.

Design was a bit dated, and beds fairly old but these were minor issues and expected as the price was excellent for a bank holiday weekend.

I had to.leave early. The sandwiches were ok

The chairs in the room sitting area smelled of dog. Also the room could benefit from a small fridge.

The staff were all super friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. The hotel was also very accomodating of my awkard dietary requirements.

There were a few more minor things which could be improved and I was suprised that this was classed as a 4-star hotel. There was a lot of noise from the plumbing, including when guests in other rooms used their taps, which was disruptive during the night, and the room was a bit tatty in places. Although there was a made-to-order breakfast menu, I would appreciate some fresh fruit and perhaps yogurt options at breakfast. It was a bit limitted if you don't want basic cereal or an English cooked breakfast.

This is a lively pub with some accommodation rather than a hotel with a bar. You have to walk right into the bar to checkin which was quite busy and loud and a bit intimidating for the kids.

Great staff and great food. The bathroom was a bit dated but in general the room was superb and very clean.

Bathroom needs an upgrade but still ok. Door straight into the beer garden might be a bit lively in summer

The location is excellent, we visited Banburgh Castle and Craigside House & Gardens, we also did a little shopping locally. The Turks Head staff are very friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and clean, the food was so good that we only ate here.

The noise - beer garden not cleared after closing so high noise levels still at 1 in the morning. Sofa bed wasn’t a sofa bed it was a click clack style sofa - very uncomfortable and only suitable for someone around d 4ft tall.

We had a lovely stay for two nights which didn’t disappoint us , lovely hotel , comfortable bed the staff were brilliant nothing was a bother to them they were very attentive ..the breakfast was fabulous our room was great spacious loved everything about this hotel The Turks Head , we will be back for another stay highly recommend this hotel x

Booked for four people but only three beds one being a pull out sofa bed. It was so uncomfortable and not ideal. Needs to be a double bed in that room. Also the music in the bar was very loud and went on till 12 o'clock. I get that it's a busy bar but needs to be turned down before 12.

Comfortable beds, very clean room and bathroom, spacious room. Even though it was above the main pub space (we were warned) it was quiet enough, you could hear the noise but only as a gentle unobtrusive hubbub. Nice view out onto the high street. Easy to come in and out with no hassle, once checked in we could just walk through the pub and up the stairs. Breakfast was nice.

Being above the popular bar means that you can hear the buzz through the evening but totally expected so wasnt a problem for us.

Location was very good for Bamburgh and Seahouses.Parking outside the Turks Head on the roadside was easy.The staff were all brilliant and very friendly.

Room was spacious and well decorated and very comfortable- great location and friendly welcome. Rothbury is a great town and area to visit.

Room was a bit noisy at night as over the bar which got busy and noisy with jukebox box playing though the music stopped about 10.30/11pm. Breakfast was very good one morning and not very good another and slow that day - perhaps there was an issue as it was very good the next day. More cereal/fruit choices would b good.

We stayed in the family room which was large and spacious.The food was great we had steak and Guinness pie which was lovely .The breakfast was great .An enjoyable area ,we will look to stay again to explore the area a bit more as we stayed here on our way to Scotland

Everything really great staff who are very polite and helpful couldn’t fault the apartment either it was spotless and had an extremely comfy bed,,also loved the beer garden out the back where it gets the sun all day long , also to mention the breakfast was lovely , would definately stay here again
