Rooms facing hyway are very noisy, had to remind them every day to do my room, because of low occupancy they shut down 1 lift very inconvenient not my problem, overall wasn’t to bad there are other hotels in the area that are equal if not better
Room configuration was wrong for various reasons: The bed was placed next to the aircon which was blowing consistently over my face, which I had to pile my pillow to. On the second day, I decided to pull the entire bed into the middle of the room so I could at least have a better sleep. Ongoing noise from highway traffic and loud karaoke from the rooftop. The safe box was not working. I have constantly asked to get it fixed, and staff came to just replace the battery; yet it still does not work, and the cord was dangling and obviously did not do its job. I applaud The security guard at the front and at the back of the building was kind and always smiled each time they opened the glass door. Breakfast was basic and not much of a choice. But staff was always keen to assist. The pool and garden setting was presentable and a perfect place to chill out, but there was no bar open for me to buy a drink.
Staff services are great! They’re all polite and approachable. Food is okay. The internet connection is disappointing. There’s a laundry shop outside (walking distance)-it’s cheaper. If you don’t want noise while sleeping maybe it’s good to request a room away from the street because the hotel is along the highway. We heard cars honking at night. We wanted to try the VIP KTV but they’re on renovations.
Old hotel.Room are old too. Need renovation. Buffet breakfast are bland and the same dishes most of the time.Reception staff not so friendly but the security guards are helpful and courteous
This is the best hotel in Tagum and we have stayed here a couple of times years ago when the place was still quite new. The hotel itself is conveniently located and is quite clean and welcoming when you come into the lobby. When we went to our room however, we found problems in the bathroom. The tap leaked all over the counter and the handheld shower head mount had fallen off and the hose was just wrapped around the shower control valve. There was also no way to get water flowing out of the handheld shower head. This and the faucet should have been repaired BEFORE this room was rented. This was very disappointing to see in a high end hotel which we enjoyed staying in in the past. When I complained to the desk clerk he just basically shrugged it off. It seems that maintenance is not a strong point in this place. Breakfast was also included and although it was reasonably well prepared it was catering more to the Filipino taste rather than the western taste. It would be nice to have a couple of more items such as bacon and home fries.
2nd best time staying here.
The hotel is very old . It needs improvement
Overall it’s a good hotel to stay at in the Tagum area. Staff is friendly and the food options are good.
The first thing I had to do everytime I enter my room is to kill a few cockroaches. The water from the faucet smells of feet. Will never go back here.
Me and my fiance stayed here this october going into November and I can honestly say it was a breath taking experience, our main man Paul was our man with the plan made sure our room was nice and tidy everyday me and my fiance made sure to tip him good for his service. I definitely want to come back here someday soon.
The property looks good but inside the room is dirty lack of sanitation. Water supply not clean looks old bldg lack maintenance.
Excellent staff Very accommodating. The room attendant name Paul and that one guard who help us always to get us tricycle, you both are very kind. Thank you. This 2 kind person is good for your company.
Booked this hotel because it had a pool, even though it was more expensive. Upon checking in I was notified that the pool is closed until further notice. Was also told the phones are not working. Room was outdated. Went to the restaurant, which is supposed to be open from 6am to 10pm. It was closed. Also had to kill a few cockroaches in the room. On the plus side, the staff were super friendly.
I like all
Unless you get decent rate or you need to stay in Tagum probably avoid. Free breakfast is good rooms ok but shower looks dirty. Pool is disaster area. Dirty structures and broken pool coping. Little or no attention to maintenance as been performed since opening in 2016. Has the appearance of being run by chinese investors which have little regard for business upkeep.
This was my second stay and I will use Big 8 again. The hot water working was a major improvement from my last visit. As always, the staff was super friendly, helpful , and professional. Food was good, just wish that the bar at the pool had been open.
I really enjoyed my stay at Big 8 hotel. Accessibility and parking were easy and convenient. Their pool was large enough to enjoy with other guest. Workout room was adequately supplied with equipment. The best part was the staff. They were friendly, courteous and welcoming. I definitely will stay there again.
I am a USA traveler. There is not much to choose from in the Tagum area. in the way of hotels. Big 8 SOUNDED like it was a USA Hotel ? But I have my doubts. The Hotel @ one time had to be magnificent. Sure it is old and decaying. But I can live with that. What I can't stand is having to pay big money for an old hotel, and not able to take a hot shower. On top of a ice cold shower, the shower doors wouldn't stay shut and slid open and flooded the whole bathroom. Maintenance could not fix this. So we had to stuff towels in the opening. But it still made a messy flooded bathroom. I came here to read the reviews concerning the hot water. "temporary out of service. We are in May, I was there in January. 5 months and you can't fix the hot water heater ? We know now that is a B.S. story. Stop telling your customers that. You have no hot water, you won't fix the hot water, but you want to charge the same price as if you DID have hot water. Everyone who worked there was as pleasant as possible. The buffet and food was not the worst in the world. It's typical Asian fish and rice centric. I went for the eggs, potatoes and waffles and breads. Rice clogs me up, and it's a bit too much sugar intake. The food was edible for a USA steak and potatoes person like myself. The service ? I loved everyone ,security, everyone. The pool was great ,the gym has some rotted wood floors. It's obvious this hotel is struggling financially. From no hot water and no wifi to a pool that is a bit past it's prime to a gym on the second floor that has rotted floors, something is going on here financially ? Sell the hotel Big 8. You are not using it properly. Allow someone to spend a few thousand USD and repair things. Wifi works locally,so that is a lie. Hot water can only be a hot water heater. China has to be able to supply a few hot water heaters easily. Replace the rotted wood in the gym before someone falls thru, you have weights up there and people handling alot of weights working out with machines that are heavy too. So the roof or windows are leaking too. There are Filipino's dying to go to work for some labor work. Get in and fix the place or sell it.
Hot water wasn't working. Charged a fee when 8 friends met us there and brought a cake into the dining room, it didn't matter that we had just ordered meals & drinks for everyone. Wanted to charge us a fee when we brought our own snacks to the pool area which was more than ordering their snacks. Charged a fee to get pool towels and even gave us wet ones (gross - were they used and not washed?). Charged a fee to use an iron and ironing board (per hour). Staff was pretty awesome actually, facilities not at all.
Great place to stay
We went to Tagum to attend the wake of our aunt. We chose Big 8 Corporate Hotel because we saw a lot of excellent reviews about the hotel. We also read that its a 3-star hotel in Tagum. Naturally, we expected an experience that is worthy of a 3-star hotel. Unfortunately, it was a big let down. The first room they gave us has a window with a broken lock. Then they transferred us to a different room with a broken airconditioner. The airconditioner errored multiple times in the middle of the night. Imagine the sleepless night to check if the kids are sweating in their sleep. And apparently you can't charge anything in your room. Everything is cash basis. Their restaurant is cash basis. Their pool is cash basis. We also got locked out of our room. The keycard just stopped working. When I got to the receptionist, there was no empathy. It felt like it was a regular thing in a 3-star hotel. I would not recommend this hotel. Our experience was horrible.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful Lobby restaurant was ok
It is great hotel. 60 minutes by car from Davao airport, on the main road so the location is easy. Very big property, highly professional staff, F&B is also very well done. The rooms are slightly old with furniture but not an issue for me. They have a big swimming pool for adults, small/splash pool for kids, Gym is available. The best part about the hotel I liked was their Coffee shop. They have their own in house bakery and I believe own branded coffee beans as well. Within a couple of minutes of walk, they have two big malls, yellowcab, McD and Jollybee. The only thing I did not like was their Wifi is out of service and hot water in bathroom is not available. I know they say it is temporary and are working to resolve but I went there to stay two times in three months and both issues were still present. I hope they fix this soon. All in all, a very good hotel and my first preference in Tagum city.
We stayed here because we have functions to attend. We booked 2 rooms. Honestly, we didn’t have a pleasant sleep, we can hear loud noises from the karaoke bar til almost 12. Aircon did not work properly, blowing cold air directly into my face. Staffing service good.
Maintenace of 2nd room left a lot to be desired shower door not closing, extractor fan not working water in sink very slow running. TV channels very poor offering. I have stayed at BIG 8 many times and enjoyed my stay on this occasion not so much. I believe the hotel is investing money in refurbishing various parts they really need to look at some basic items within the rooms to ensure guests comfort as well.
Were happy staying in the hotel. Breakfast is excellent
The staff was incredibly helpful, professional, and courteous. The room and bathroom needed a good deep cleaning. The hotel showed some sign of wear, but overall is very clean. The room was comfortable with excellent air conditioning. The free Wifi was good, but spotty. The food was excellent, the free breakfast buffet was different every day. The restaurant and coffee shop were good as well. Excellent parking. My only complaint was the lack of hot water in the shower. Some days it came close to hot, but mostly barely warm to cold water. I will use this hotel again.
Breakfast has limited choice or the same. But security guards are helpful and courteous. Room need renovation and have many line cracks maybe from the earthquakes that looked quite frightening. No hot water for showering
This place would be grate if they had hot water I stayed at another place after staying there witch was cheaper all because they had hot water for what big 8s makes for money from guest you would think they would have hot water as well the WiFi stop working hours after being there so yes really not good.
Hotel is easy to locate. It is nearby restos and mall. Staffs are very accommodating and respectful. You will be welcome with the sweet smiles of the staff. Rooms and toilets are clean. There is complementary breakfast. There is gym, pool, karaoke, and spa.
The staffs were very friendly . Convenient location. The only problem was there was No hot water. I had to take a cold water shower.
I have stayed here off and on several times this year visiting relatives - weddings, babies, etc. The hotel is wonderful. Staff excellent. Rooms comfortable. Gym and pool, cafe, breakfast buffet all clean and lovely. The hotel itself and the the parking garages have security guards 24 hours a day. Very safe and clean hotel
This was the 5th time I have stayed here. Clean room, comfy bed, friendly staff. The buffet breakfast room was open this time which was a bonus
Hotel service is so bad. They only give 1 key card and they charge 1000 deposit for another one. WTH for a piece of plastic. Room needs upgrading. Shower head also needs cleaning. For 3500 a night, breakfast is also not worth it. Saw guests who looked displeased upon seeing the buffet. Only ate 2 sunny side up eggs as other food doesnt seem to be delicious. Service in the resto is fine.
Good
Very good but slow to put kids beds in requested on check in
- the whole place needs a lot of TLC and upgrading. - to start with, no airconditioning nor an electric fan available at the main lobby. - we stayed at rm. 501... the room's decor was in need of upgrading, the airconditioning system needs uograding. - there are better hotels in Tagum that offers far better accommodation for price they charge. - there are no remote key/s available for the whole hotel guest so one of their staff have to run up and down the stairs every time a guest needs access to their rooms. - we have to pay for an extra bed and guess what... we have to pay for extra towel too... ridiculous👎🏼 -But the staff were lovely though.
Booked 2 rooms and both has no internet connection in the 6th floor nor telephone access. The staff are very accomodating and would try to help you. However, the room rate is not worth the price. Room beddings are not clean. No internet access on rooms only in lobby. Breakfast is no good options either.
I’ve traveled the world, and have stayed in my fair share of hotels/motels. I’ve stayed in hotels in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and England (United Kingdom), where I lived for many years. But of course, many hotels in the United States, where I’m from as I’m an American. I now live in the Philippines with my wife and 6 year old son. I hav3 stayed at the Narco Polo hotel and the Pinnacle hotel in Manila, which were excellent hotels to stay in. I would give the Big 8 Corporate hotel, in Tagum City a 5 STAR RATING, and recommend this hotel to anyone passing thru this area. This is one of the most clean, comfortable, reasonable price hotels I have been to in my life, so far. I’m 73 years old and I throughly enjoyed my stay here, at this hotel.
Nice Facilities
This place is a joke the biggest ball of crap ever Got a room with a queen size bed it was smaller the a full size bed my feet hung over bed this must happen a lot the had a extension peice to make longer I go into bathroom turn on the sink no water comes out i check the shower no water called front desk i guy came in he checked the water t wer ll me no water is coming out i told his that's what I said next day switch rooms no hot water reallly The food is good but the help needs help they bring me a warm beer and a cup of ice this was by the pool took two sips and i said I'm not going to pay for a hot beer on a hot day they said I'm paying for it i asked for manger she was good she took care of it The free breakfast is crap i told him that DON'T EVER STAY HERE WORST PLACE I'VE EVER STAYED AT
No hot water in bathroom.
They don’t come to clean room Even I wana ask to them They don’t answer may call many time. I stay 3night 4days. I can reach them only onetime. We pass two bath towel and one face towel. They give us two bath towel only. finaly they daught we take face towel. During i stay hotei they didn't give me water. This hotel is most expensive hotel at Tagum. This hotel toilet is no good also.
As the title above say, when visit Philippines as a Norwegian tourist, there are places i should not go to. When i first came to Tagum City, i noticed a large hotel, and i said i want to use it for my safety, and iliked it. I been to Philippines two times, and Big 8 hotel has been the only hotel i like to stay in for my vacation. If you looking for a hotel with swimmingpool, a bar, live music, fantastic overview from the top restaurant, a gym, kind staff that talk english, and is there for you always at your service then Big 8 hotel is the hotel where you can find all this. Whenever i like to travel to Philippines, i really want to go to Tagum City to stay in Big 8 hotel. I rather much live there if i have the money for it. They got everything there, and if you wish to go to mall, there are malls on the same way as the hotel stay. In the evening or night, the hotel has many guards who provide exelent safety, and if you are friendly and treat them with kindness and respect you can feel even safer. After a long day of walking around to take videos, you can go to the spa located in the same buildiing. there you can fully trust the staff, you can close your eyes and relax, let the spa workers do their magic on your stiff back. that is something i did every 2 days, it was amazing experience. then in the evening some local band play music there eithernear the bar on the swimmingpool area or at the top restaurant. Staff are easy to talk with, one thing i always remember is the smiles of the staff, they are very friendly and wish me have a good time. That is why i give them a top score. By the way i did also a video review of the hotel if you wish to see. Go to my profile to see my youtube channel.
Our first visit to this city and the only hotel that looks fine. I didn't like the breakfast selection(included). Our room was overlooking a garage or industrial buildings. Going up to the the floor lobby, there were people, children, sleeping on the couch. Terrible sight for being a "corporate hotel".
Room was in need of renovation. 1st room flooded when it rained. 2nd room had roaches and the a/c did not cool well. There was also an awful odor coming from the drain in the bathroom.
The staff are always nice and polite. Wish the hot water was hot lol.
This was The only good hotel in tagum, but is a litlle bit over the top, and not really worth the 3 stars anymore they have how, how pitty, it was so good when it opend, we have been here almost every year since then, but start to see the decay of the hotel every year more Everybody is So bussy with the conference space that the hotel is degrading, it really needs maintenance almost every where jou look nowadays, maybe let the surplus of personel do some it, Double glas on the road side of the hotel would dampen the road noise , and maybe on the poolside the outsideparties finished at 10pm for some lesser sound disturbance like in normal hotels
Personnel are helpful, especially the housekeeping
We had fun
Location is great and amenities are complete. Needs improvement on the food though. We ordered dinner ala carte and the food took around 45 minutes to serve. When it arrived, the food was cold and tastes bad. Hope they improve the quality of their food.
Updated review from my previous visit: was able to sleep peacefully, bed is comfortable, room is spacious, amenities in the room was adequate. It's just too bad the wifi was not available in the rooms, wifi in the lobby is super slow. It's like 0.35mbps only. Can't even send an email
room was clean....no evidence of bugs. ok breakfast. shockingly slow internet and signal level poor in room and in restaurant. pool was great.
Nice staff good service .. comeback again!!!
I have recently spent two nights in this hotel and can only say it is the worst corporate hotels I have ever stayed in. The cheap and shoddy fittings used in the room I occupied were appalling. Loose taps, cheap hollow doors that were delaminating. The plastic air vent in the door kept falling out every time you closed the door. Cheap worn carpets both in the room and the corridors belied the fact that I was told the hotel was only a few years old? The breakfast was so so. I can only assume they get away with charging the prices they do because they have no other competition in Tagum City. If I have to travel to Tagum City in the future I would rather stay at a hotel in Davao and travel to Tagum City each day.
We stayed here because our friend was getting married inTagum City, close to the hotel. The hotel was fine, staff were friendly and attentive at all times. The condition of the hotel is satisfactory although starting to show signs of ageing. The bed was comfy and we slept well. The breakfast was mediocre although food in the 24 hour cafe was really tasty.
Very friendly staff nice pool. Food was good in the restaurant period great location too many different things .
It’s supposed to be a big hotel but they charge us for extra towel, use of flat iron which in big hotels, they are included. the room charge is about the same as other big hotels.
Very friendly staff... accommodation was perfect.... rooms are clean.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. My room was very clean. Overall...awesome!!!
I don't have anything to tell about the rooms as I haven't slept there, I've got my own house nearby the hotel. But I went there on the advice of my wife and some of her friends for the Night! I've tasted a lot of food in the Philippines but I think I've made my worst experience during the 31st of December in my life. The food was far from good (but not desgusting) but the service was above the level of what we can find in a hotel 2 stars in Spain! Or even less than a no-star in France, but I'm very angry... For the wines, nearly nothing was availabe out of a decent wine list, for the food, it was the same and they even forgotten to bring my the entrance (a tomato soup).. And they began to tidy up the room at 9.30 to prepare it for the next day. The only thing which was quite acceptable was the café bar, siding the restaurant. The cake I had was really marvellous but the decor, the possible intimacy and the confort were really disappointing.
The TV inside our room is damaged, but thankfully the staff replaced it with a new one. Food from the In Room Service is not that good. We checked in on Dec 24-25, and most of the amenities of the hotel are closed.
I booked 2 twin beds on line from Hotels.com But when I checked in , I was assigned 1 Double Bed ? I asked front desk , but I didn’t get a proper response, Other than that. Stay was great....
Bad smell in bathroom and they changed the menu so it’s very lacking now got breakfast. My last stay was much better but this time is wasn’t that good. Maybe the staff changed it management but this is the only decent hotel in the area so there is not much choice.
I really enjoyed the breakfast in the morning, because of the variety of foods that they have. The staff are very friendly and hospitable. The only real problem is that they accused me of eating the non complimentary “peanuts” that were never provided to me in the three days that I had stayed there. They said that I would have to pay once I had checked out. Additionally, the hotel at night can become very noisy, because of the karaoke that is on the eighth floor. Will not stay there because of the previously described issues.
This was my second stay at the Big 8. After my last visit 2 years ago I wasn’t keen to come back but online it still appears to be the best hotel in Tagum so I didn’t have a lot of choice. This time I was happy to see that the room (Superior) was well maintained, clean and not showing too many signs of age. The A/C works well and the room had everything I needed so overall it was a good stay. The breakfast (included) was ok and the location good but by far the best things about this hotel are the staff (very helpful and friendly) the Gym (Big with a good selection of equipment) and the large pool.
Amazing comfortable room relaxing.
I am from Tagum City, sometimes when I'm in too much stress I book a hotel for a night, just to relax and have my pampering time. This hotel is my favorite here in Tagum. Clean, spacious, not too much crowd, you can really rest. There's also a pool (ground level, at the back) and a gym area on the upper level of the hotel, for those craving for extra boost of caffeine, they have a 24-hour coffee shop, they also have restaurants and a singing lounge and bar. The price is a bit on the mid range though but it's sulit since you'll be having buffet breakfast included on your room rate.
Amazing
The Big 8 Corporation Hotel in Tagum Philippines is a one of a few places visitors have to choose from. It is more than the average for the area but it is acceptable. Our stay was for 7 days and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Check it out.
Friendly staff, room just only okay - because a lot of moist in the bathroom and a not cleaned bathtub. Brrrr. Shower was just warm - not hot. While taking a shower, water runs inside the bathroom. Flood.
Hotel amenities were okay, the beds are comfy and shower is great; it could have been 5 stars if not for the noisy neighbors we have. They were laughing and talking so loud that we can hear it from our room. If only the rooms have adequate soundproofing then we could have had a good night's sleep.
Friendly staff. But toilet stinks a lot, especially room 503, compared to previous rooms we’ve stayed in. I know there’s a warning of foul smell in every room’s toilet, but other hotels don’t have stinky toilets. Does the management have any plans to improve their “filtering system”?
We stayed in this hotel after driving over 7 hours to visit family. And this hotel was wonderful, bed comfortable hotel and room spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly and great. Plus their breakfast was nicely presented and very tasty. Our stay was great. I highly recommend staying here.
It’s was ok stay... stuff are pleasant. The water just smells
This hotel is one of only 2 or 3 in town and is by far the nicest. Even though the decor is a bit dated, the friendly and proffesional staff more than make up for it.
Twin Beds are too small. Pool staff are not helpful. Ignoring us. They need more training when it comes to giving services. The rest of the hotel staff are doing excellent especially the front desk, the breakfast buffet and the cafe. The security guard on duty is polite. Also the masseus is doing a great job too. Thank you all.
good
As usually in the Philippines the service level was excellent, but also everything else was excellent. The room was clean and breakfast and service during breakfast was excellent. Restaurant prices in the evening were moderate and price-quality-quantity ratio of meals ok. Air con in the room was also modern and quiet. Voice isolation regarding voice from other rooms was also good. Therefore, if someday I come back to the City of Tagum, Big 8 is my first choise.
Our stay was to include breakfast which unfortunately was a huge disappointment. Selection scarce. If you want a decent cup of coffee you need to purchase at the 24 hr coffee shop. Only 1 room key provided on check in and it took an rediculous amount of time to convince them that we needed 2 keys. Although staff friendly for most part I would not encourage others to book here.
We stayed at the Big8 Tagum for 8 nights. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff are polite and very attentive. The hotel is conveniently located for visiting the malls with local transport readily available. The facilities are excellent with a choice of restaurants and bars also. Occasional problems connecting to the wifi but otherwise a fantastic experience, Highly recommended.
Nice stay except that there was no buffet breakfas
Nice place to stay very friendly staff ,nice and central to Tagum City
Best hotel in the area that I could find. Staff and amenities are great. Breakfast better than I imagined. Rooms were a bit costly for the condition of them in my opinion. Overall, a pleasant stay.
Pleasant stay not happy with family coming to visit our pool and being charged perperson 😕😕😕...
No hot water and sink and shower had something black running in the water.
Stayed her for 3 nights in Aug first week. Always smiling staff. 1st night was bad as I was staying in the room facing the highway, which is always noisy and had a terrible sleep. next 2 nights I switched to another room and it had excellent view of the mountains and free of noise.
Good Staff great
The rooms was great clean room service was great beds and rooms was made every time we came back and the holtel staff was honest I left my wallet in the room they call me and held it for me when I got it all was in my wallet credit cards and cash it was so great I stayed an extra day
One day i was taking a day trip which required me to use the towels provided in my room as I dont usually travel with my own towels for a visit to the beach ( or pool) Upon my return to y room, I was greeted with a note from the person who cleaned the room advising me, they noticed the towels were missing and i should explain the reason why or i would be charged for the towels. The tone of the note was very upsetting and very uncalled for.
The hotel was definitely overrated. The cost of the room is way high than what it offers. The toilet bowl sucks! It doesn't flush well.
I have stayed at Big 8 in Tagum City several times, it is by far the nicest hotel in the area. It has restaurants, gym, pool, coffee shop, everything you could want, and a friendly staff.
The hotel staff was excellent and accommodating. The amenities are nicer than i was expecting with an awesome pool and gym. The food was delicious and the house keeping staff worked very fast. I am definitely going to stay here again.
Our short stay was worth an experience with the best customer service offered by every staff in the hotel.
Stayed at the Big 8 August 28, 2013 for my wedding and just over two years later this is still an Exceptional hotel. This year's hotel stay Sept. 8, 2015 thru Sept. 13, 2015. Great staff. Great room service.
Everything was great, except the Food Service at the Asian Restaurant was a very very long wait. Ask for them to bring the delicious soup right away. :-)
Staff was pleasant amenities were not great the parking was a mess a lot of functions and they gave them priority over guests room was clean and comfortable not much hot water for showers Breakfast was included but not great
The Big 8 exceeded our expectations. The staff is friendly and will go the extra mile to make you happy. We really enjoyed our 15 day stay there and would stay there again. Thanks Big 8 for making our vacation a memorable one and we will see you again next year.
