I was shocked at how lovely and interesting this area and building is
-
sehr lecker gekocht, sehr netter Service. wirklich sehr empfehlenswert
Location Warm Welcome Easy parking
Mattresses in Twin room used by my adult children were adequate In contrast in my bedroom I was exceedingly comfortable
Ontvangt en dat je nu van het diner gebruik kunt maken.
Alles prima.
Very comfortable hotel with very helpful staff and great location. Food was excellent.
Our room was just above the front entrance where some people sat out at night. This was a little noisy at times but settled down by 11pm.
Breakfast was fine. Location was fine
Too old fashioned for us
Friendly staff, small but suitable room, gorgeous decor, great location.
Room was a bit tired but suited me well!
Hotel is very charming
Hotel is not very modern but still the charm makes up for it.
Very friendly , comfortable and good food. Staff were great
Could not recommend this enough. We stayed for a nearby wedding. Arrived around 10pm easy check in and the bar was open for a drink. Breakfast was fantastic plenty of choice both hot and cold. Very sweet village and very friendly staff.
Good value for money, exceptional food. Good old fashioned friendly professional approach to looking after the guests 11/10 to the staff. Spotlessly clean.
Although the beds are comfy I’d forfeit some floor space for a slightly bigger bed.
Breakfast was nice, although it would have been nice to have had some music playing. The bed was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The light in the bathroom was motion sensitive and seemed to be extremely sensitive. It would have been better to have had a light switch.
Great breakfast - warm toast on a toast rack! Excellent butter. The large field mushroom, cooked perfectly. Attentive service. Great lounge area to relax in, with games. Comfy beds, nice view from room of fruit orchard and garden.
Could have provided plant milk such as soya or oat at breakfast - that would have been the only improvement to breakfast. Couldn’t have improved the service. The main issues with the room were the bedside lamps and the shower. One could not plug in (just there for show). Other flickered and had to turn it off. Shower was impossible to get right - scalding hot mixer or freezing cold, with very little water coming out. I wasn’t able to wash my hair. Poor water pressure to room. Needs a separate shower unit. Found a contact lens case on the bathroom floor - not ours. Other than that, bathroom very clean.
Every thing the room was fabulous large bed the staff were excellent nothing to much trouble for them the restaurant food was 5 star as was the breakfast highest recommendation for a stay
Lovely setting & atmosphere friendly staff
Niets
Setting was lovely
In need of refurbishment but nice hotel
Extremely comfortable Lovely outlook Excellent Breakfast

Wunderschönes Hotel mit stilvoller Austattung und leckerem Essen. Super um Tagesausflüge nach Edinburgh zu unternehmen.
Lovely village setting. Very good food and excellent staff.

Evening bistro menu limited, but we enjoyed our choices. Breakfast good but slightly slow service, and we had to request our pot of tea - we weren't asked for our preference when we sat down.
Floor tiling to the bathroom crazed in places, but was clean. The bath was clean, but the plughole had hairs and black sludge which I had to remove. Room 9 was above the service archway, and we were woken at 5.45 by the door below slamming and shaking our bedroom floor, and loud discussion. At check out, to be asked for full payment, when this had already been settled via booking.com
Lovely food great nights stay only a couple of things the bed shook a loud bang from downstairs like a big door closing 4 times the music at breakfast was not good 1940 dizzy galesply trumpets blasting and the sound of them cleaning the lines at the bar wanted to make want to go to the toilet every 5mins apart from that I would come and stay over again staff were so polite and caring food was awesome thank you:)
Struttura molto caratteristica in un paesino davvero stupendo. Personale cordiale, gentile e disponibile. Colazione inclusa formidabile. Stanza molto curata. Cena top.
Nulla
Friendly staff, lovely location and comfortable lounge area.
Water pressure in the shower
Breakfast was excellent. Very friendly staff.
All good.
Great spot. Lovely staff. Food in Bistro was excellent. Breakfast amazing.
Nothing
Friendly attentive staff who went the extra mile and us feel spoiled . The breakfast was first class, comfortable sleep, calm peaceful setting.
Room was ample sizr and beds comfortable. Staff polite and helpful Breakfast was wonderful and good quality
Unfortunately nosey floor boards woke us up. Also a call at 0015 am to see if we where in hotel as hadn't been marked as checked in, wasnt best bit not a drama. Better than being locked out.
VERY COMFORTABLE, RELAXED ATMOSPHERE, FOOD WAS DELICIOUS, BOTH DINNER AND BREAKFAST, PARKING EASY
NOTHING!
Quiet setting, staff very helpful, would stay again.
Room was small but comfortable
Good breakfast. Good ambience for evening meal
Nthing
The hotel has improved since its new owners have taken over. The offer of cooked breakfast was a huge improvement from last years continental breakfast. The food has improved and a new Bistro menu was well received. The staff are incredibly hard working and very engaging. The overall ambience is relaxed and friendly and im sure there will be more improvements for guest to enjoy as the new owners settle in.
Nothing I didnt like as this is a growing business with huge potential for the future
A characterful hotel that has been mainly refurbished while keeping the charm and comfort of a traditional Scottish hotel. The staff were very pleasant and made everyone feel special. Food was also excellent as was our room with a 4 poster bed.
Nothing but a few corridor carpets were rather tired but presumably about to be replaced.
Full scottish breakfast complet et divinement bon. La déco de l'établissement très typique. Personnel très agréable.
Les rideau ne sont pas assez occultant et la lumière du jour m’a réveillée très tôt.
Restaurant, single malt whisky, and staff were fabulous.
Bed mattress was a bit lumpy with hard spots which hurt when lying down. Floor very noisy.
Everything was great. Lovely village, great building and food. Staff very helpful. Will be back.
Peaceful setting and extremely helpful staff. Very tasty breakfast 😋
Sadly, my shower was broken, but staff were supportive in letting me use another one.
Hotel has recently been taken over by new owners, redecorating has been done and meal areas changed, there is a new bistro and an A is Carte restaurant. Good early breakfast times for people who need to leave early midweek. Staff very attentive, lovely and clean rooms. The new decor really brightens the hotel up. Will definitely return
The building is lovely and with great character.
Room 8 has windows that don't open ! This made sleeping very difficult.
Lovely building and facilities
Nothing much. However have stayed there before and the breakfast was amazing, but since changing hands the breakfast was not as good. Overcooked bacon and, I suspect a “catering pack” sausage. Otherwise breakfast was good.
Really good staff, dog friendly, great chat with locals in the bar, lovely walk in community woods nearby
Pillows could have been better - quite flat
Food and restaurant was good.
My room was in need of upgrade to modern standards. However the new owners Im sure will improve the standard upstairs to that of downstairs . They are enthusiastic and very hospitable.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was very cosy and comfortable.

The best hotel in Scotland
Lovely little hotel, everything bout it first class from staff to food, great base for seeing Edinburgh and surrounding area, can't fault with anything 👍
Nothing
Food was superb, both dinner and the two breakfasts we enjoyed. The room was well laid out with very handsome wood furniture, comfortable bed, decent bath and shower, heaps of drawer/wardrobe space if you're staying for longer. The hotel itself was easy to find and the staff were friendly and helpful.
A shame not to have any proper glassware in the room, just small coffee cups and plastic cups. There was also no fridge, unfortunately. No complaints outside of that, keep up the good work!
Lovely hotel and restaurant staff gave me warm welcome. Hotel room was good, bed very comfortable. Excellent choice for breakfast (now serving cooked breakfast which was a nice surprise!) The pub and restaurant are also worth visiting.
Could use shower gel and shampoo in the room, not just soap. Also would be nice to have water and glasses in the room.
Was comfy staff were very helpful
Lovely quaint pub/ hotel set in a lovely village, very warm and relaxing accommodation from start to the end of our stay, the staff were lovely couldn’t do enough for you, food was delicious superb breakfast. Would highly recommended.

Traditional country hotel with bags of character and style
Lovely traditional small hotel. Located in a picturesque village of Gifford.
Can’t think of anything.
Comfortable bedroom. Very friendly and efficient staff. Good standard of food. Character and cleanliness of hotel.
The staff were fantastic.
Nothing
Excelente el lugar. Muy cómodo, muy limpio. Los dueños son excelentes. Muy acogedores y simpaticos. Superó nuestras expectativas! Lo recomendamos 100%
We have stayed a few times in the past and it has always been nice, the hotel has just been taken over and I have to say the staff this time where exceptional so friendly nothing was too much and the food was excellent.
The room was comfortable. The hotel is situated at the heart of the village. The staff is professional and friendly. The breakfast was excellent.
There was nothing we didn't like.
New management very nice people very helpful
So friendly good service
The hotel has recently changed hands and the new owners are working hard to provide a good experience but naturally it takes some time to get the property up to the right standard. The staff were exceptionally helpful. Dinner was of a very high standard and good value for the quality of food that was offered. The location is great for exploring the local area and near enough to have a day in Edinburgh. Accept that it slight flawed at the moment and support a family business by choosing to stay there.
The bedroom was very tired and showed the lack of historic investment, with peeling paint work on the ceiling. The cleaning was adequate but it was disappointing to have cobweb hanging from the ceiling.
Friendly staff and locals
Nothing
Clean and comfortable and cooked breakfast very good.
Creaky floors that transmitted through the whole place and woke me
Continental breakfast was very good with a variety of items.
Full English breakfast would be nice.
Lovely place, great bar, very friendly, good food and drink, bed amazingly comfortable
Continental breakfast with very good options. Reading lounge nice and relaxing, lots of antiques on display. Heating in room very good
Room decoration poor with holes in wall. Very small television. Mould in bathroom. Bathroom light very poor. Every floorboard creaked. All electrical safety tests out of date. All fire doors jammed open.
Reception and service for dinner and breakfast Interesting decor throughout
Slightly disappointed that there was no cooked breakfast e.g. porridge in Scotland!
Dinner
Continental breakfast
Building, location.
Dusty room, tired, attention to detail cleaning.
It’s great. Rooms are clean, staff are very helpful, and they’ve got the food just right… it’s priced reasonably and the portions are huge. No fry up at breakfast (better for you anyway folks!) but loads of options on the Continental.
Nice property and lovely staff
Breakfast was a bit rubbish for the cost - definitely expected a cooked breakfast of some sort and continental offerings very low value
Staff were do welcoming nothing too much trouble fish and chips were delicious
Shower could have been a bit cleaner
I loved the food. Superb. Thank you!
Friendly and helpful staff. Sociable local bar and meals downstairs
No cooked breakfast available and understaffed at breakfast. Had a 15 min wait to get a cup of tea!
Bed was rock hard, did state good breakfast ! not a cooked breakfast just toast cereal, dirty in bathroom. At £160 for one night you should clean the room and coo a breakfast.
