The Waters

We had a wonderful stay at The Waters in Motueka. The location is fantastic — peaceful, beautifully situated, and a perfect base to explore the area while still feeling like a proper retreat. What truly made the difference, though, was the hospitality. Lou and Aiden are incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely caring hosts. You instantly feel welcome — not like a booking, but like a guest they’re truly happy to have. Breakfast deserves a special mention: lovingly prepared, high quality, and simply delicious — exactly the kind of start to the day you hope for while traveling. And then there are the “resident managers”: Darcie the dog (adorable and full of charm) and Vivienne the cat (equally sweet). Their little daily presence made the whole place feel even more homey and special. If you’re coming to Motueka, don’t overthink it — stay here. We’d happily return anytime.

The location and view was amazing. The room was very well designed and comfortable.

The breakfast was a bit on the low side.

The room overlooked the ocean and the beach was a 50 yd walk to the beach. Rob was an excellent host and very knowlegeable of the area. Breakfast was wonderful.

The waters is world class. One of the most beautiful places we have ever been to. On a Long Beach with awesome views. The service was amazing. Rob and his family were very helpful and provided everything to complement the stay. Room was beautiful and comfortable. We hated to leave

Great spot, nice location and room

Interconnecting room meant absolutely everything could be heard in next room, ruined tbe experience for us and definately not worth tbe near $600 . Also for somewhere saying luxury and 5star there were no little touches like a bottle of wine ( it said it was a working vinyard!) ive stayed in places for a lot less who have done way more

The breakfast was a lovely well prepared and appetizing combination of fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, toast, and beverages. there’s an amazing view of the ocean from the room that is constantly changing with the weather and transitive the sun. The host were friendly, efficient and inconspicuous.

We didn’t get the room, we had booked. The place was Overbooked. Great disappointment! We were offered another room 400m higher up. The view was much better and there was a great pool. BUT the room was average, isolated, the bed a small queen compared to the Waters. They charged same price.

Everything was incredible. Room, Location, surroundings, Staff. I loved all the wildlife, the birds, the rabbits that you can see everywhere surrounding the property. Absolutely beautiful.

Just the best spot, an amazing room and so close to the beach - was such fun in the waves! Lovely breakfast too. And Rob is a brilliant host! We’ll be back!

Due to a confusion over our booking we were moved to a substantial and beautifully equipped apartment with the most wonderful views towards the sea and over the olive grove. Owners went out of their way to overcome the booking problem. They have two delightful children.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Waters. It is a lovely property and the family/owners are wonderful. Rob is a wealth of knowledge about the area and New Zealand. He was able to book an activity for us after hours for the next day which was amazing. He also offered a charcuterie board and wine dinner to end our busy day! We would definitely return here and highly recommend to others!

Fabulous managers. Incredible spot with ocean and pond type views. First rate breakfast provided daily in your own refrigerator. Not a lot of rooms so the place has a very private feel. I loved everything about it.

Very friendly staff who went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Abundant breakfast, gorgeous views over the Tasman Bay and a very comfortable sleep. Would definitely book here again.

I didn’t want to leave! This place is a hidden gem and one K.D. the best places I’ve ever stayed. The room was everything I could have needed with an incredibly comfortable bed. The breakfast was great and so convenient to have it in your room the night before so you could eat whenever worked for you the next day. And the views...they can’t be beat. The sunrise over the ocean is just outside your door and the haze from the sunset over the mountains in the distance at your back door. Such a beautiful and relaxing space and the woman who runs it is a great wealth of knowledge about the area. I will be back....and hoping sooner than later.

Beautifully set on the coast in a quiet location. Fantastic room design. Could be ideal, but: came Into a room that smelled from smoke (turn to be burning wood in the area), The place would greatly benefit from a-heating (the heating system blows air directly at the head of the bad but is not sufficient to hold the temperature); b-clean new towels; bathroom rugs, (the floor was freezing). The lady owner was extremely helpful and nice.

We wanted somewhere we could totally relax at, this was the perfect spot. Claire was a wonderful host, helpful and friendly. We can certainly recommend "The Waters" to anyone planning a holiday in this area- superb!

A perfect location for a secluded getaway. Walk on the beach to a nearby vinyard or take a short drive to begin your walk on the Able Tasman trail.

The views are fabulous and the breakfast provided was delicious! The owner was really friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay there again.
