Absolutely outrageous. We booked a room and realized within seconds that we had selected the wrong date. We contacted the hotel immediately — literally right after booking — to correct this simple mistake and rebook for the proper time. They never responded. As a result, we’ve now unnecessarily lost €500 over what was clearly an honest error that we tried to fix instantly. This is not just disappointing — it feels completely unreasonable and frankly unacceptable from a hotel that claims to care about its guests. We were fully willing to rebook and actually stay there. Instead, we were ignored and left paying the price. Extremely frustrating and a very poor customer experience.
OK
My husband and I booked this hotel for 8 nights on trip.com. Hong Kong was one of the cities where we planned to spend our honeymoon. When booking, we selected the option for a separate room for 2 people, and in fine print, it stated that there were options for rooms with two separate beds or one king-size bed. When we received the room key, we found that we were given a room with two separate beds. For our honeymoon. My husband and I approached the reception twice and asked to change the room, speaking with the hotel manager, but we were refused. The hotel did not offer any solutions. We asked if there was a possibility to move us to another room when a room with a double bed became available, but we were told that they could not help us. The beds themselves are very hard and absolutely uncomfortable. I highly do not recommend this hotel due to its terrible customer orientation. Book anywhere but here.

Location is good to explore hongkong by metro , shim shui po is the closest metro station at a walking distance . Ensuite rooms are spacious and clean in a different wing . Breakfast is fixed with bread , eggs and zuzu tea but it is enjoyable and provided only if you book through HIHOSTELS website as a youth hostel life member . For other meals there are sufficient eateries in the neighbourhood . Most metro stations have enough eating outlets for lunch on the go . Parking available and it is value for money in otherwise so so expensive Hongkong . Use Uber for cabs which is easily available
Good location and value. Convenient with 24x7 front desk and security. Not too far away from metro and bus lines.
We have stayed in this hostel several times already. It‘s location is great as it is not far away from two MTR stations. The room (double bed with private shower and toilet) is very large in Hong Kong accommodation standard. We could open two big suitcases and still have room to walk around. Consider the price. There are many local restaurants nearby and markets. A great spot to explore Hong Kong. The hostel building was a public housing block built in the 1950s. There is a very well made museum (free of charge ) on the ground floor to explain the history of the public housing development in Hong Kong. It is worth spending time to visit it when you stay in the hostel as a starting point to understand Hong Kong. Recommended for those who are in budget as there are also dormitories (8-bed with two shared shower & toilet ) . The common area is big and are free to use of course.
Thinking about staying at this Hong Kong hostel? My recent experience might change your mind: 1.This place is crazy loud. The rooms don't block any noise, especially when the cleaning staff starts moving furniture early in the morning. And they don't care if it bothers you. 2.Picture this: it's midnight, and your neighbors are rearranging furniture. I called the staff four times, hoping they'd fix it. Spoiler: they never showed up. It was super frustrating. 3.Stayed for four days, and they only changed my towel once. Not great on the cleanliness front. 4.Don't get a room near the staff or storage area; it's as noisy as a construction site. 5.The front desk staff is unprofessional and not helpful. They're like they never learned about customer service. 6.It's not cheap, but the service is bad. You might as well spend a bit more on a hotel where you won't feel like you're on a badly managed school trip. 7.The noise is non-stop, so forget about sleeping in. The staff doesn't care if you want to rest. 8.Brace yourself for an odd request during checkout – they'll actually ask you to strip off the bedsheets for them. I kid you not. It's a bizarre and unexpected demand that adds to the overall unprofessionalism of this place. In short, the high prices and lousy service make this hostel a bad choice. Look for something better for a more comfy stay.

Stayed a night here, a lovely old building converted to hotel, recalls a lot of memories as I was brought up in a similar apartment when I was young. The only problem is the walk in shower's drainage is not very good
Staff are helpful. Towels are only changed once every 3 days - too infrequent. One had to pick up all sorts of smells from the MTR station to the hotel. While most are outside of your control, I think you can do something about the urine smell outside the front wall along Beswick Street at night.
Clean ;) and accessible to the local shops 👌 which is nice. Thank you.
Convenient, close to city, staffs are friendly, the room is clean.
It's historical residential estate, now reactivated for hostile. I had staycation here for 3 nights. The rooms, as expected, are basic. I am satisfied as it's clean, well illuminated, and ventilated. During my stay, the weather was extremely hot and sunny but the air conditioner worked perfectly. My room had no views but a slope. There's a cafe in the restaurant for simple breakfast and lunch. I didn't try. Some cheap eateries after 5-10 mins walk. Need walking over 10 mins to the nearest MTR station, either Shamshuipo or Mei Foo. I explored the neighborhood which is very old with blocks of public housing and poor people. It's fun for me. I stayed as a local. There's a small hill called "Garden Hill" next to this place. There's a staircase besides it which leads you up to the hill top where one can overview the city. Good for day and night scenes. Not that difficult to climb. Overall an interesting experience for 2 or 3 nights.
Clean and price is reasonable
Rooms are spacious and clean. Good location and quiet. Excellent Revitalisation Project! Highly recommended!
Nice to stay at this cultural heritage site. Comfortable bed & beddings.
Nice and big room with clean beds and bathroom.
Friendly and helpful front staff, cleaning ladies and security. But only changed towels every 3 days, I stayed 6 days so only changed towels once. Don’t expect high level of cleanliness or comfort.
Thought it strange to take down bedding and remote with check out, specially when you are already trying to manage suitcases. But the place was clean and quite, bed very hard.
Basics and functional. After not much. Should do some sound insulation.
Frontline and counter staff are friendly and accommodating. You can't pre-booked your preference bed, may it be low/ high bunk. Nearby and stone throw from many convenience stores, eateries, shopping and entertainment belts. The standing bath(s) get flooded/ ponding at times. Some occupants changed their beds without informing the Counter Staff. The Management should consider reviewing price strategy for lower/ higher bunk beds.
Clean and comfortable room, nice staff and good to have breakfast included! Location is ok.
I'd always choose Mei Ho House whenever I return to Hong Kong at least once a year. The double rooms are spacious and clean. Service staff are pleasant. Plenty of options for breakfast. Our room was also decorated with vintage icons. But the best part of it is that it's really affordable. It's not located in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui or Central, but very well connected by bus and train. Plenty of eateries and bustle in Sham Shui Po, and lots of discounted tech around. Takes half an hour to get to both. A20 goes directly from the airport to Sham Shui Po, although my partner and I haven't been able to locate the return bus back to the airport. Anyone has any clues?
Everything is perfect except the bed is too hard for ne
The canteen decided to serve breakfast to a larger group people first while me and my friends spent 10 minutes to line up and reached the counter. We were rushing to catch a flight but the canteen person in charge asked us to wait until they serve the larger group, which consist of 30-40 people. It was more disappointed when I told the receptionist and all he did was just 'I will see how I can help' and nothing was done after that. The stay was all good before that until the last day. Me and my friend are really upset with the service because we think every customer deserve to have an equal chance to have their breakfast ordered according to the queue.
The room was very clean. Staff spoke good english and was very helpful! At breakfest you could choose from 5 menues and tee or coffee. One of which was a simple sandwich with meat an cheese. The hotel is 5 min away from MTR station. Excellent value for money!
I had a room in fifth floor in which things seem normal. Local TV channels well received, beddings and decorative old Hong Kong items look clean and tidy. However, one of legs start itching after my stay, it almost forced me to find a skin doctor. By the way, water in the bathroom is quite weak. One interesting thing was that all guests had to return all begging items before checking out.
Katherine and I stayed here for a few nights in September. We'd booked a double room through Booking.com and were very pleased with the whole experience. The Room was a very good size and had all we needed for our stay. Breakfast was included. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The Hostel is a bit of a trek from the harbour but we were happy to walk everywhere and to be honest you will see a lot more of what Hong Kong is really like if you stay above ground. That said, there are two Subway stations within a short walk. The hostel does have it's own canteen if you want to eat there or you will find plenty of places to nearby. All in all, a good experience!
convenience and historic location and helpful friendly staff
Good location, surrounding areas alot foods and stalls
Very near the city centre, many places to eat and explore and staying in a place that is a part of history
Very convenient, closed to everything you want. Nice staff and helpful
Clean, value for money, walking distance to MTR and eateries!
Last month I have stayed in Mei Ho House Hostel. Good community area good size double room, clean, bed quite rough has no bedside electric plug Limited cooking facilities in the kitchen When you check out, you still have to take all the pillow cases, duvet covers, bed sheets to the reception. They said this is a way to promote hostel culture. They charged almost the same price as a 3 star plus hotel for a double room.
Mei Ho House, a youth hostel in Hong Kong, is good place to stay for a few days. Almost perfect, but you must bring ear plugs, a medical certificate stating that you cannot sleep with closed windows and/or some tools. Our room was well-lit, clean and spacious, with a nice bathroom and an electric kettle. The bed was very comfortable. Wi-Fi connection was excellent. Breakfast, admittedly a very spartan affair, was included. Not to worry, there are several supermarkets in the area and you can use the communal kitchen. We simply got take-away food from a busy restaurant just down the road and had it in the courtyard. There is also a hill right next to the hostel, so do walk up there and enjoy your food with some beautiful views of Kowloon. What detracts from the pretty picture is piped music in most common areas. In addition, the building is poorly sound-proofed; we could hear other guests and furniture being shifted in a room above even at 3 in the morning. The staff were all very understanding and of course very unhelpful: unfortunately there was no room available for us to move to the top floor. Worst of all: the windows were locked and could not be opened. Policy or something, they explained. So — if you are claustrophobic or simply detest AC like I do — make sure you bring your tools or a medical certificate to get a window opened. Failing that, for ‘fresh’ air you can always jam a towel in the door frame. Almost perfect.
We stayed here for a month in a twin room. It is clean, safe and very quiet too. It was also large in comparison to other hotel rooms we have stayed in the city. Our room overlooked a small park. Breakfast was nice each day and there is a vegetarian option of muesli and soya milk. It is walking distance from three MTR stations. The nearest being Sham Shui Po and Shep Kip Mei but it is about 10 minutes from Prince Edward too. Very central to where we needed to be. We would stay here again.
Clean and comfortable Spacious double room Breakfast provided Best choice for limited budget
This place is spacious. Pros: have kitchen and huge fridge on the ground floor to store personal items (soda, fruit etc), have labels for you to identify them. Have coin laundry ($30 for washing and $30 for drying) - not the cheapest. I have found another coin laundry in Tsuen Wan, close to my mom's house, $22 washing and $12 drying. Breakfast included (most of the times, the same 4 items of which 3 items have pork / ham, and the last one is oatmeal with hard boiled egg. I stayed here for 7 days, I got tired of sticky rice chicken after 3 days. AC is strong, wifi is good and stable. Cons: not super close to the MTR and the beds are super hard. I can feel all the springs... I talked to the front desk, they asked house keeping to put a blanket on the top, they don't have any topper, only blanket. It is slightly better with the blanket.
Good stay...clean...
Clean and neat place. Shower flooring is a bit shabby and old. The rest is nice. Good value for money
Laundry Free breakfast and location Room was spacious
There is a museum in the hostel about Hong Kong public housing, especially in Mei Ho House. We enjoyed the museum and visited it every day. The room was big and the bed was ok. We had to bring all the linens to the lobby when we checked out, but we didn't mind it. The breakfast was too small, though, especially for a growing teenager. The location was good, near markets and there were lots to see and buy.
Terrible hotel (in fact a hostel). Nothing works well. The air conditioning and the shower drain did not work and I need to move to another room, which had other issues. In the new room the toilette and shower was not working as well. The breakfast is "horrible". There is no room service and at the end of the stay, you need to take the towels and bed sheets down to the hotel laundry otherwise they don’t allow you to leave the hotel. I definitely will not get back to this hotel and I do not recommend it, even considering the low price.
No fridge which is inconvenient and no microwave in lobby or eating area. Lots of restaurants around. Spacious if compared to normal hotel. Very comfortable. Breakfast has improved a lot compared to half a year ago.
new property, very clean, good location, near subway and market, restaurants
Convenient to transportation and lots of good eats. Much improved with the breakfast and the milk tea. Not good without a fridge especially it is still hot in October. Also no microwave anywhere in the common area to heat up food.
The location is very good. Room was very clean.
The linens are clean, the dorm (4 beds) is roomy with 4 single beds.
First time stay in Sham Shui Po as I normally stay at Mong Kok. I like the hostel, the room size is big with big window and superb firm bed. The breakfast is not very good as they only give you cup or coffee/tea plus three choice of breakfast....not even buffet style. The bathroom is good size and the shower pump is good. So I have breakfast in McDonalds everyday. Love to be back for third time in HK as I love HK. Sham Shui Po is good area with many local markets that open everyday. There is a hill view of the city behind the hostel. I would come back again.
Overall is perfect.
Very comfortable stay(Twin Bed Room) with local atmosphere, historical but well maintained building, friendly staff, 4 choices of breakfast, 7-8 mins from MTR station, reasonable price.... but the only thing is no refrigerator in the room.
So Hong Kong obviously has tons of options but a lot of the lower cost ones seem rather dirty and dodgy. You'll never have that issue with the YHA. It's well maintained and clean and I was able to get a room at a bargain price (due to unfortunate political issues). Hostel is an easy walk from two different subway stops and there are places to eat at night. And it's not far from the sights. Good sized comfortable bed with a light. I was in an 8 bed dorm and it was roomy, not a weird, tiny shoebox with beds shoved in. Plus two bathrooms per dorm room. The chargers are inside the locker. Kind of weird and I only figured that out in the morning. Hearty breakfast inside their hip café or the outside patio. Just wish there was a vegetarian option that didn't require removing slices of ham from my soup. They also serve food during the day. My booking was "prepaid" but it turns out they only charge your credit card on arrival, so I was able to pay cash instead. There is a museum on site and they sell travel accessories, so pretty much all needs are covered.
Quiet and cozy place to stay in Hong Kong. Many shops Many kinds of food So happy to enjoy life as local 😊
The area is clean and quite. The air conditioning is good even the weather is very hot in Hong Kong.
We got to Sham Shui Po station, lugged our bags up the stairs and came out to the real world. We walked for about 5-10 mins to get to our accomodation for the next 2 nights YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel YHA 美荷樓青年旅舍. Check in was quite easy, we were given a tv remote to return on check out and we also have to take back our pillowcase, sheets and duvet cover at that time also. Apart from this not being convenient with luggage and 2 young kids in tow this place is well worth the money. It is 2 bedrooms with a bathroom, spacious and close to an MTR, markets and shopping centres. We were given brekky vouchers where you can choose from noodles, glutinous rice and chicken, egg and ham sandwich or a croissant with ham, tomato and lettuce.
Better than I expected. Room is big and clean. Good deal!
One of the best YHA I've been to, staff are great and definitely come back next time!
This is my 3rd check in here. everything was perfect as usually ,I am happy and will back again.
I arrived very early morning hoping to get early check-in however there was a delay in getting into my room as the hostel was sitll very full. However when I mentioned to Ethel that I was only in HK for a few days to attend a job Expo she went out of her way to help me. By 12 noon we had access to our rooms even though check in time is not until 4pm. Thank you Ethel and all at Mei Ho for helping my father and I during our short but very busy stay! Highly recommend.
Good room have space, traffic convenient, reasonable price,
Room is big and clean, closer to MTR, many local food
close to subway, shopping and attractions and amenities,
Nice cozy little place with spacious rooms. Rooms are considered huge in Hong Kong for the price I paid. Location is about 10 minutes walk from Sham Shui Po Mtr D2 exit. Located at Sham Shui Po where choices of food and shopping are abundant for a decent price as compared to Mongkok/TST/Central areas. Only downside is the lack of additional pillows and floor mats. Towels are changed only every 3 days but this can be solved by paying a nominal cleaning fee. Will definitely stay here again considering the price and location!
The room was clean. The king size bed is basically two twin mattresses put together, so there's a hard edge in the middle. Noise from the door was a big issue for us since we could hear anyone walking past our room.
My friend and I stayed at YHA Mei House Youth Hostel in April 2019. The room we booked was a twin room with private bathroom; it was clean, spacious, luminous and comfortable. We paid 3400 HKD (380 €) for 5 nights. The hostel has a spacious kitchen with all the facilities and it was always very clean during my stay. There are also big fridges where guests can store their food and very good washing machines and dryers. The hostel is well-managed; the reception is 24-hour, the staff speak English and Chinese and was very kind with me. The hostel is located in Sham Shui Po, just a 7 minutes walk from Sham Shui Po MTR station, Exit D2. A note to the hostel: I suggest improving the breakfast. I cooked the breakfast by myself because I’m vegan and all the five choices were with meat. There are a lot foreign travelers who would enjoy a vegan breakfast, so I suggest you to introduce at least one vegan meal.
A good place to meet multinational visitor, places are properly illuminated
Amazing quality price place for HK. Extremely spacious double bedroom, modern and clean. Staff are lovely and so helpful. Close to MTR and you can easily go anywhere. I’d definitely go back. The only thing that needs improving is breakfast which we found poor. Such a shame when everything else is just great.
I had great experience staying at this place. The YHA staff was friendly and helpful. I liked the facility, very clean and spacious with 2 bathrooms. That's what I needed when sharing with other 7 fellow travelers. It was very affordable incl continental breakfast- the food was ok though. Tip: make sure to bring extra locker in case you want to store your personal stuff in a cabinet or else you'll end up renting or buying new one. The towels costs HKD10 to rent if you didn't bring one.
Bright and clean, read the house rule before you mess up the towels. Replace once every three days, luggage storage is not free.
Location great as in local community with lots small shops, market. No other tourists around, near transport and cheap e21 bus to airport. Huge rooms, kettle, good shower outdoor area, kitchen, laundry Next to huge hill walk with good views from top all over kowloon. Cheaper than hotels. Staff great
Hotel room is big , price is good. Will stay in this hotel next time
This property is more than a hostel. It's spacious, clean, well equipped. The property was built long time ago, but the renovation has transformed it into a very inviting lodging. Breakfast is included with 3 choices. Overall, IMO, it's better than a lot of so called hotels in HK. The front desk staff is very friendly, polite, professional, and helpful. Allen Wong is one of those. He did our check-out and spent some time showing us various ways to get to the airport. What a fine young man and what a great team. Will definitely come back whenever we visit HK.
Clean and decent place to stay. Not too noisy. Breakfast wasn't very enjoyable and no drinking water facilities although you can buy bottled water from the shop. Generally a pleasant stay.
I have stayed here many times, though the price has been increasing with time. Everything is quite okay.
Clean and if you can have non bunk bed alternatives with space! Big for HK though sharing. A bit of a walk from Shum shui po station but if you stay to main roads it should be safe and follow signs there incl an underpass. Breakfast is ok "western" with eggs, vermicelli noodles with ham strips, Chinese sticky rice chicken or dim sum options, but the nearby cafes can provide alternatives. Towels provided free of charge and soap dispensers in bathroom. Lockers good size in 4 person mixed dorm. FYI Have to make your bed first night..
I made a wrong decision to book nine nights, I tried four nights and decided that was enough hostel experience
Great place to stay, clean comfy and fab location
Nice in order. Daily cleaning and maintenance. Everything works properly.
Nice and clean. Check-in at 4pm is a bit late. Otherwise very good service and staff is very helpful.
Everything was good except the rule for changing of clean bath towels for long term dormitory stay. Should allow to change the towels at least once or twice a week free of charge. If possible, the hostel can setup a notice board for people who may wish to share taxi to the airport, train station, bus station etc.
Good location, clean and comfort room!
It is home away from home Staff are polite and friendly Location is excellently
The building and history is amazing! It's very clean. It's beautiful, comfortable, has an upbeat atmosphere. The layout of the dining area and food counter doesn't flow very well though.
I like the courtyard setting by the restaurant, quiet area. The food quality of the breakfast if getting worse and worse year by year. Maintenance of the building is poor.
Hotel is hard to get to if you had to haul your own luagge up hill . Very limited amenity. So so breakfast. Location is average.
Breakfast included was large (4 options available). Washer and dryer on site. Clothes soap included. 24 hour desk staff. Very courteous and helpful. Room was quiet, clean, comfortable, spacious. Large lockers available (bring your own lock). Body soap and shampoo in bathrooms. Security is excellent. Proximity to MRT, 7-11 is a only 1-2 blocks. Museum located on site history of building. Free. Also small shopette and pantry/kitchen on site.
I stay at Mei Ho House for four days. I love this place, will come again.
Quality of the breakfast is becoming worse year after year.
Good location, room is big and cleanliness
Great place for the good news
In general,it was ok with me.Hostel room was clean and tidy.Local public transport is ok.About 10-13 mins walk to the nearest MT R train station to H.K CBD is around 30mins It can be said traffic is ok.
The room I stayed in is very clean & spacious. Breakfast is ok for me. The MRT is not near to this hostel but you can find alot of foods nearby.
Nice hotel, walking distance to MRT station, Surrounding with Restaurant and shops.
This is a great place to stay in Hong Kong for room sharing. I am staying here for the 2nd time. This time round I have booked the 4 persons sharing a room. They do provide free towel to use for 4 person sharing room. No towel is provide for room shared with more than 4 persons. Please remember to bring your own lock as they only provide storing cabinet without the lock.
comfortable and convenient.
The location is good for younger people as they can walk faster. For elderly people with luggage, it is not easy. We have to take a taxi almost every time we go out.
Very nice Hotel. Friendly staff. Good location. A lot of good restaurants to choice from near the Hotel.
Hostel was a little tricky to find st first as the street address is not located on the hotels.com website. Look for tiny red directional signs on the street. Bed was comfortable and nice to have breakfast included.
It was a great experience. I didn't have high expectations going into this, but it turned out to be quite impressive for the price. The family room was more like a hotel room, with a spacious bathroom. I didn't find the area to be an issue. On the other hand, I found it more of a plus, since it is close to alot of restaurants and the MTR.
