Location was good
This property needs an investment to have minimum requirements of hospitality
I liked that it had a piano I could play. I liked that it had a pool. But it was a little… not well kept
Room wasn’t clean. It had shared washrooms which were not clean either. The breakfast that was included were bagels that the owner purchased with spreads. And keurig coffee.
Nothing.
The property was extremely disappointing and not at all what I expected from the listing. The entrance and common areas were cluttered, dirty, dusty, and had an unpleasant mold smell, which immediately made me uncomfortable, especially as I was travelling with two young children. The room was located at the attic, on the third floor, and the door appeared damaged/broken at the top. The overall condition of the property felt poorly maintained and unsuitable for us to stay in. I only went upstairs to see the room, did not use or touch anything, and left immediately because I did not feel comfortable having my children stay there.
There was no garbage can in the room, none of the lamps had any light bulbs, no instructions how to operate the TV. The grounds were not maintained.
Cost and charges excessive.
nous n avons pas dejeuner car il y avait seulement du pain et confiture
en general rien ne correspondait a nos attente piscine pas en fonction et pas propre nous avons demender une autre chambre car pas tres propres
Poorly maintained, extra charges at check-in.
The property was filthy and I would like someone to contact me as I was left hanging on the phone the other day. There was chicken in the sink, filthy appliances, stains on the sheets, the “garden view” was a joke. Booked this place for the pool, kitchen and in house dining and didn’t use any of these things because of the lack of cleanliness.
Personable
Victorian mansion decorated appropriately.
2 flights of stairs. Air conditioner was not on and room was very hot. Their breakfast wasn’t available until 10:00am.
Staff was very courteous from greeting to check out. I recommend.
Really bad place.
Was not comfortable. It was not properly clean. Bed was really old
Breakfast in both places was very good.
nothing
First of all, was to have been booked for two nights. It's my fault that I didn't check my confirmation carefully enough, but when I saw that my rate was more doubled on the total I assumed that it was for two nights. Booked this establishment based on price shopping on Expedia. My member credit was for $90 off the posted price and that reduced the room price to $127. The total posted on my confirmation was for $241.04 (and I later discovered that did not include the $50 Resort fee to be paid on site). One would think that was for two nights but this "INN" charges $113.57 for taxes and fees, PLUS $44.25 Resort Fee PLUS $5.75 "taxes" for a total of $163.57 in additional fees! For ONE NIGHT! All that for my room with the uncomfortable bed, clunking and non-functional A/C unit, dirty fridge and stained bedding. An offer was made for a smaller room with hard-as-a-rock bunk bed was declined - not even for a vacant similar room. No breakfast available, on a weekday, until 9am. long after my business meeting start of 7:30. I have been in contact with Expedia regarding my extreme disappointment, but as we all know, buyer beware. My fault. But I won't be making the same mistake at this place ever again!
Was somewhat disappointed. Restaurant not open for either dinner or breakfast. No one there for checkout. Had character but was shabby and dark. Indoor Pool area was overheated and extra charges augmented the price considerably from the one advertised. Needs better decor and upgrades to be an appealing hotel.
No bathroom in bedtooms
The bed was broken: the slats were broken on the floor so the bed was just a floppy slab. The room was comically overcrowded with furniture like baby cribs. The price doubled after booking. And the hotel owner gaslighted us when we tried to share our problems.
The location was good and from advertisement of pictures it looked clean but was not.
It looked like somebody had been using it to live in full time and had just tossed things in closets and cupboards when it was rented. It was VERY dirty and not at all worth $300 that was charged for it per night.
I never write reviews but felt that I should in this case. This place is very deceiving from the website. It has so much potential but hugely disappointing. The one star rating is for the bed only as it was very comfortable. Otherwise, it was not clean at all. We knew it walking in the door to see carpets full of dirt and dust. It didn’t end there. In our room the rugs in the bathroom were clearly not vacuumed, the mirror had streaks and wasn’t clean, there was soap scum all over the shower door and dust on the bed and elsewhere. Table tops were sticky as well. We paid $300 for this and the tv wasn’t even working. The pool wasn’t cleaned up after a kids party so not useable. Also, there was no coffee/water/drinking glasses in the room. Steer clear of this place!
A beautiful easte home well maintained and friendly service . We will return
All around cute, unique and cozy property. Only thing that bothered me was the bottom of the pool was full of dirt and even some cigarette butts.
The pool and the building
The heat, the ice on the stairs, and the driveway. The parking
The accommodation was adequate. Staff was friendly
This is was like a fun historical stay. Staff are friendly and accommodating. My kids enjoyed their time in the indoor pool.
It was a nice stay in the upper room. Only con was the person who woke up at 3am and started using the microwave and keurig right outside my room (my room butted up to the kitchen). Luckily I was able to get back to sleep. All and all, a nice stay.
All was self serve day old store bought pastry & cofee. No juice
If operator had emptied the waste cans in the communal bathroom and taken away the wet, soiled towels after the first night, the second day would have been more pleasant. The room was not clean on arrival, very dusty and dirty. The room has a baby cot, source of mirth and nightmares for two old 70 year old folks like us. Again room waste baskets not emptied after day one of two day stay. We were not aware from either Booking.com or owner that room didnt have ensuite toilet/shower facilities. 90 % of his rooms were ensuite. Owner said Booking.com reservation customers were not entitled to ensuite rooms and had to use communal facilities. So Booking.com clients are 2cd class, we guess! Incidentally, we counted 3 rooms on our 2cd floor that had private facilities that were totally empty during our stay.
nothing I did not like this stay >>>>
This was overpriced and I rated the the worst stay I had , I should have been paid to stay there. I'm disappointed with bookings,co and will never used them again.
Nice older home converted into BB. Lots of character but needs updating in decor and furnishings
Yatin was an excellent host, making sure our stay was perfect.
The tv didnt work. No breakfast setup
Self serve, standard choices, we make our own breakfast
Parking too far from entrance, no night light, no working desk inside the room we stay, no face towels, towels are warn out, takes too long for the water to turn from cold to hot and it becomes very hot without much room to stay away from it. One can easily have a burny ot a fall from this.
The Inn keeper was very friendly and quickly provided all of our requests. We had room #4 on the second floor, with ensuite bathroom, and the common kitchen was okay with a continental breakfast. The large flat screen TV had Netflix and a wide selection of channels. The Inn is a short walking distance to the village Main street.
Breakfast was simple, bread and croissant. Good coffee.
Mattress was too soft for me. Bathroom at the end of the hall with a tiny shower. Very nice house but challenging job to maintain and upgrade where necessary. I wish luck and courage to the owners.
The Inn owner is extremely friendly and accommodating. The breakfast food and drinks are available all the time just in case someone got hungry. Lots of places to hangout with friends in the inn. Pretty quiet. The inn itself has a lot of character, old but very classy. Located right at the town center.
I guess, inflation makes everything a bit pricy, but it is kind of subjective.
Charming place! We only stayed one night I wish we had more time to just look at the place cause it’s so lovely. Breakfast bar was stocked, staff was very kind to give us a tour and we were able to have a hot chocolate before settling in for the night. 🥰
The host is utterly lovely.
The booking of this room was a trick one. The price stated on Booking website increased by $90 without my knowledge. Only after receiving the credit card charge I realized that this extra amount was charged. I felt betrayed by booking and I will extremelly vigilant next time I book rooms with you. Please show all the charges before closing the deal, otherwise you will loose a lot of customers, including me...
The owner of the property was fabulous. The property was neat and tidy but was not clean. This property charged a $61 sur charge, which was apparently for cleaning. Our room was upgraded from the attic to the second floor, with a communal washroom. We were the only party booked in for the night. There were units with in suite washrooms which we could have been given. The shower stall still had the last persons used bar of soap . I wrote my name in the dust on the floor.
The property is right off the highway. Ample parking. The architecture of this 1906 home is beautiful.
The owner cared about his B&B and his customers. We felt very much at home as the owner was very personable. The room and especially the bed was very supportive and comfortable
Did not like how the web site was not clear about the accommodations. What I thought I booked and what I really booked were not the same. Thankfully the owner recognized the disconnect and upgraded our room.
My family rented their pool for my granddaughters birthday party 12 people attended 4 children got cut from the pool being in poor condition and tiles are falling off Everyone came home with red and swollen eyes from the amount of chlorine & chemicals in the pool. I do not recommend. Asked for a refund and they would rather argue and say everything was fine . I will be sending an inspector to their building.
Historic home with Beautiful clean rooms and bathrooms. With the lovely four poster beds and antique furnishings it would be perfect for a special anniversary. Owner/manager was lovely. Very kind and hospitable. Continental breakfast was generous.
The owner was friendly and the place was cute.
Where do I start. I booked this expensive room based on the description that it was a “suite” which was perfect for the 3 of us, the private pool and hot tub/whirlpool access, and included breakfast. However, nothing advertised was accurate. The pool pictures suggest a whirlpool/hot tub however it was not functional. We were not told during our initial welcome tour that the hot tub wasn’t actually a hot tub and that it was broken. When I asked for a discounted rate because the services were not as advertised, I was given a whole host of excuses as to why booking through this site as opposed to booking directly with him has different circumstances and he deflected his accountability for accurate booking details. The pool itself was filthy with clearly visible gravel or dirt in both the shallow and deep ends. I did manage to receive a discount of $45 after a lot of discussion. There was chewed bubble gum and used soap in the upstairs bathroom (see picture). The room itself turned out to be only two beds and a bathroom and did not have a sitting area or any privacy despite being advertised as a family suite. The lack of a breakfast was the most deceptive part of the experience - this property is named a “b & b” which usually means the owners make breakfast for guests. This is not the case. Instead, the breakfast was a continental breakfast that consisted of bread for toast, mini pastries, and cold cereal. The fact that I paid $284 for this room only to receive this level of service and amenities is so disheartening.
Breakfast was not great.
Rooms were very large and the host was very nice and accommodating.
Close to our location and mattresses were compfortable
Door stuck heavily in bedroom We were placed in a room in the attic and stairs were to steep and room was sketchy for 288.00 per night for 4 people Not clean at all and place had a funky smell No continental breakfast with scrambled eggs or toast Had a kitchenette on the floor but looked like it was not clean and heavily used by people living there or boarding
Breakfast was OK, not exceptional but filled our needs. We did like the old Inn ambiance. It was of most significance to the younger members of our family who had never seen an old Inn of the lumber Barron era of Canadian History. They also enjoyed the pool. An added bonus.
No suggestions here. The owners were extremely cooperative to our needs.
The host was waiting for me at check in. Very friendly gave me a tour of the property and said "this is your home for the next few days your welcome to enjoy it all" Very clean and nicely appointed. Excellent location right off Main road.
the property and rooms were beautiful! it’s a former estate home and is just gorgeous. reminded us of the manor homes we stayed at in the UK!
Just to mention the good first. It is quaint, quiet, and the room was cute The owner did carry my bag to my room and in the morning, the kurig coffee was decent. That's about it for the good. When i arrived he showed me around the place and when i went to what i thought would be an air-conditioned room, it was 81F and even after he turned on the at-window air-conditioner, it never cooled off below 79F so i got very little sleep. The windows were dirty and the frames moldy as you can see in the picture. The morning's "continental breakfast" consisted of masses of carbs (cereal, defrosted pastries, bread). No eggs or anything else. As i was leaving, I intended to pass on my disappointment in the hopes to teach them something from a person who was once employed by a bnb and a patron of various others but no one responded to my callouts. This is a place I would NOT recommend and I woild consider this my worst bnb experience ever
This unique 120 year old house has so much charm and character. The furnishings are almost all authentic and the service I received was sincere. If I'm ever back in the area, I will definitely stay there again.
The location, the one staff member was very nice.
it had no air conditioning! no mention of that on the hotel information section. it was dirty like it hadn’t been dusted in months.
Like the historic home and property. Close to the scuba dive park.Friendly staff.
the room was spacious and comfortable. it was a nice bonus to have access to the pool
Michelle was amazing, and very friendly, the old house has beautiful character, and the location is perfect for Marmora, breakfast was standard and as expected.
My room had sealed windows, and unfortunately the whole BNB smelled like chlorine. The bathroom had no ventilation fan, and needs some attention, the room was cute, but I also had no box spring, and only one fan. Being in the attic I was unsure if I was smelling chlorine or mildew, regardless either isn't great to be smelling. If the Owners resolve the ventilation, I would consider staying again.
Breakfast was good and location was what we needed
3rd floor stairs were hard for our age. We would of booked in the second floor if we knew.
We attended for a dinner only. Unfortunately there was only a handful of items on the menu and the protein (butter chicken) was sold out leaving us with only paneer options and stew. We opted for one each and the samosa's that were said to be hand made by the owner. They were good but clearly reheated and not fresh made for our meal. Our waitress, though extremely tentative spent a great deal of time socializing with us at our table to the detriment of our quiet dinner. We do enjoy meals out quite regularly and did have higher expectations of this cute little B & B but I think in the grand scheme of things, it should stick to just breakfast for guests in the morning.
Lovely staff that are very friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to help; even moving a guests car with permission while we ate dinner due to the snow! Great restaurant that had just opened the week prior. Overall a fantastic stay. I’ll stay here again any time I am in town.
Hey friends. Just left Mamora and want to let you know that this place no longer is ran by Rui and Kathy Pereira. The new owners are no where running the place like Rui and Kathy. The room are stuffy, unpleasant and the breakfast is plain and lacking the personal touch of Chef Rui. The restaurant is gone and the place is anything but honest - They have kept the old reviews and want guests to think it is still as wonderful, warm and welcoming as it was before. IT IS NOT. No where near it.
It’s a beautiful old home, quiet location and welcoming arrival from the manager.
There needs to be some easy updates ie., remove Xmas decorations, not needed in September. Replace rugs in bathroom with towel mats that are washable, there was a curious mix of too many supplies and too little. Some of the breakfast items remained for days which then became stale. Too many common rooms open that weren’t used or not defined for use. Yard area seriously over grown with weeds. It has potential, but is very overpriced for what’s on offer.
We really liked the relaxed atmosphere, the hostess was exceptional! She went above and beyond. The Pool and Sauna were an awesome extra bonus!! We felt very at home and comfortable, we hope to come back. Thank you one "L" Michele!
The only problem is that we couldn't stay longer!
The listing on hotel.com site is outdated and inaccurate. The Inn has recently been sold to a new owner and no longer has a restaurant or lounge which previous reviewers raved about and the primary reason we booked here. We only found out about these changes when checking in. This meant that we were limited to what was available in the town - mainly pizza joints. The offering is not the hot breakfast as listed but rather a limited “buffet” of bagels, cereal, fruit and muffins. The most disturbing issue of the listing is the misleading price of the rooms. In addition to the listed room price, there is an additional fee of $60 that is added at time of completing the reservation with no explanation as to what it was for. When we asked at the hotel upon checking out, the staff member could not explain it. We have no complaints about our room which was clean, quiet and the staff member (Michelle) was helpful and obliging. Unfortunately the extra cost and absence of a restaurant made the + $300 expense rather excessive and disappointing for what we received. 6/10
Clean, friendly staff
Way over priced for what you get. Pictures on web are from previous ownership. No restaurant, terrible wifi, no robes in room, no ice bucket (had to travel up and down 2 flights with a glass, breakfast bar was very very limited. No black tea??? No cleaning of room between nights of stay. If your charging premium price, offer premium services! Shower stall was smaller than a closet, toilet sounded like howler monkey's after flushing.
The pictures used are from previous owners. There is no restaurant or bar, the wifi is horrible, no bathrobes, no hairdryer. There is an ice machine 2 floors down from the rooms, no ice bucket. The "breakfast" was horrible for a continental breakfast. Your choices were toast, bagel, cereal, yogurt. OJ (with pulp) or grapefruit juice. No caffeinated tea, just decaf or herbal. Best western offers better options. The pool is nice, one plus. You pay high end but are not accommodated for it. Yes the building and rooms are pretty but that's it. Oh let's not forget the flushing of the toilets sounds like the dementors off Harry Potter. The shower is no bigger than 3ftx3ft. No one comes in to clean up the room in between your nights stay which is a bare minimum for $250/night!!!
This is not what it looks like now. The Marmora Inn was sold in May 2021. The new owners are using information provided by the previous owners. The pictures of the food are from recipes created by the previous chef/owner.
Let me begin by saying that this place is a gem! I absolutely loved the owners Cathy and Rui! They were friendly super accommodating, after the first encounter I felt like Cathy and I had known each other forever! I had a private room shared bath and the room was large and very clean and well made. The bathroom was a wee bit small but had all the necessities and work great! The house was very interesting lots of art and very full, your eyes always saw something different and if you have an opportunity to chat with the owner there is an interesting story to go with the art! I decided to have dinner there and Oh my goodness it was delicious, beyond my expectations! I left so full because I did not want to leave a morsel behind. Everything I ate was full of flavour and very fresh. I highly recommend the dining experience! Breakfast was also excellent and you wonder how anyone can make bacon and eggs taste so good! Try this place it’s awesome!
What a great spot and an awesome find! Clean, pleasant owner, comfortable and amazing food!! Thank you Cathy and your husband Ru for a great stay and amazing food! I will be back for dinner it was sooo good!
Perfect food and nice people. We will come again. Thank you.
Beautiful place! Very clean. Great food. Great hosts. Thanks!
The owners are delightful, kind and always available to help with absolutely anything. Believe me I lost an address to pick up my new puppy way out in the boonies. Kathy went on line and found it for me. Rui, her husband is a five star chef and they set up a five star menu at two star prices. The old manor is deevine and there are friendly ghosts to keep you company, well, if you see any... It is a very comfortable and wonderful Inn. Rachel and Maurice We loved it.
This place is a hidden gem that will not disappoint you. Rui and Kathy are great hosts and will go out of their way to accommodate you. We had an awesome stay.
In the village of Marmora half way between Ottawa and Toronto on the beautiful Highway 7 is this fabulous lumber baron mansion now a B&B. Owned by an Italian/Portuguese(chef!) team, the home is full of books, arts and antiques. The rooms are lovely, spacious, some with attached bathrooms. We didn't know beforehand about their restaurant (during Covid you sit on the back porch in the garden area). So happy we decided to eat in because it was one of the best meals we have had. We absolutely recommend the place!
This was the most incredible stay I have had in a long time. I was travelling for work and my stay at Marmora Inn was such an amazing break. Rui & Kathy are the most incredible hosts, and my dinner/ breakfast were easily the best meal I have ever had in my entire life. I wish I could give them 11/5 stars. Can not recommend it enough and I am looking forward to coming back soon!
Very delicious breakfast! Lovely indoor pool. Very welcoming hosts.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience. They had a bottle of wine, chocolates and a card waiting for my husband, to celebrate his birthday. The food was amazing and unique. The room was lovely. Our en-suite had a long claw foot tub for two! If you are looking for a romantic getaway this is the place.
Really nice place. Clean comfy amazing service by the owner. Their to please you and make sure you have a nice stay. Will definitely be back there when in the areas.
Very old but well kept large house. Rooms nice size and well appointed. Lots of character.
We had an amazing time at Marmora Inn, great food, great hosts. Will be back in the future.
Excellent, exquisite, quaint inn, with fabulous food and wonderful hosts.
Hosts are great. Very friendly. Food is excellent. We came in extremely tired and late from moving our son for university. They accommodated us in every way possible.
The breakfast was amazing. The owner was super nice. However, the internet was very slow; the TV did not work; and the water was way too hot and very hard to adjust.
The cleanliness and the food was amazing. The service is also execellent. You will feel at home
What a hidden gem! The restaurant has food that rivals the best restaurants in major cities at a fraction of the price. The owners are so warm and friendly and take care of any little request you have, including getting breakfast ready for us early so we could be on the road on time. We will be back!!!
Friendly. Great food and menu. Pool and sauna. Kathy and Rui were amazing. My husband and I plan on returning.
Imagine every wonderful childhood memory in the atmosphere of your grandparents cosy clutter of a lifetimes art and memorabilia and you have Marmora Inn Bed and Breakfast. You are the guest in this wonderful old house of the sweetest couple you will ever meet. Kathy and Rui are the heart and essence and you feel the heartbeat through your entire stay. And we - sadly - only stayed for one night! Rui is a chef and excels in the Portuguese cuisine. We had the pleasure of dining there and it was amazing. You eat in the beautiful and cosy dining room carefully decorated with art given from friends, an impressive silverware collection and quirky items. You can't help but fall in love. As Kathy says, it is slow food. They do not have any help. Rui cooks and Kathy mingles among the guests. Just go. And for your own sake stay more than one night. If you are a business traveler, stay here. It is better than any fancy chain hotel. As a bonus you get a warm hug on departure. I loved every bit of this little fairytale gem that we found by complete accident.
The owners are very friendly. The room is very clean. The breakfast was very good with home made jams.
This was absolutely fantastic place to stay with an amazing hosting by owners. Providing great service. Highly recommendable if you’re looking for having a great experience in an antique hotel.
