Beautiful old hotel, very helpful staff
Very cozy boutique hotel - more like a homey bed and breakfast feel. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend if you'd like a quaint B&B style hotel.
This was a panic booking after our flight was cancelled and was the only good thing to happen that day. The main building is lovely with period features, our room was in the annex and was large comfortable and clean! Parking was easy and location was good, 5 minutes from the lovely village centre. Breakfast was very good and the staff were great.
Nothing
Everything went well during our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was really satisfying with a range of options to suit all tastes and there was a really good local pub within a short walk that served fantastic food. We will definitely be staying here again as it is a great base for exploring Cambridge and the surrounding area.
Nothing - we couldn't find anything to fault at the hotel and so would recommend to others.
Beautiful hotel and gardens, the staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good.
Sad that no food in the evenings, one local pub shut for refurbishment.
Pleasant room, excellent breakfast, helpful staff, ample parking
Rock-hard unforgiving pillows!
Location and comfy bed
Breakfast only served for one hour, did not meet our needs at time we needed to go, spoke to staff night before they said they would leave us a continental breakfast which they did not. No staff to serve bar at night, no staff to complain to in the.morning. bathroom door would not shut. Shower took 7 min to get.warm and pressure low. Room decor tired.
Staff were very friendly and helpful
The room was tired and in need of decorating. Walls were thin and could hear movements in other guest bedrooms.
Room was comfortable, 4 poster bed, nice deep bath. Good Full English breakfast. Friendly staff.
every thing, helpful and friendly staff, clean cosy settings.

Attractive property close to Audley End and Duxford. Plenty of parking and lovely gardens. Staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Dog friendly rooms on the ground floor of the annexe.
The hotel is a bit tired and could do with a refresh.
Le bâtiment très anglais, la grandeur de la chambre, le village avec son pub superbe
On entend les gens marchaient au dessus mais je pense que c’est un parquet ancien...
The room was really nicely set up. Was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Also has a really nice lounge with a bar. The proprietors were incredibly nice and really welcoming.
Bijzonder plezierig personeel dat oprecht geinteresseerd is in je mening ed daar ook iets mee doet. Vroeg, vroeger ontbijt? ze regelen het. Met een glimlag
foutje in badkamer. Een stand temperatuur. Mocht iets warmer
The location was great and we were able to park free of charge, the hotel was situated in a lovely village with a fantastic pub that served excellent Thai food which was a short walk from the hotel. We loved the history around the place and the staff were welcoming.
I was really disappointed with the accommodation, I decided to upgrade our room with a Four Poster bed ( room 10.) This is something that we almost never do, but we thought we would treat ourselves. The room was advertised with garden views ( we had a car park view) it also said that chocolates would be on our pillows, this was not the case. There were also wilted flowers in vase. In addition to this there were a number of things in the room that didn't work. This could have been such a lovely stay if more attention was paid to detail.
Really good bedroom
A lovely historical village hotel with plenty of charm, With its own private walled courtyard. Close to Audley end and Duxford air museum, and not far from Cambridge which made it an excellent base to see the local places of interest. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were delicious!
The mattress on my bed was a little firm for my preference.
Never got the chance as was cancelled for no real reason

Staff is very friendly and we were able to take our two dogs there.
Vegan options at breakfast were rather limited, eg ordered vegetarian cooked breakfast but without the egg. Would have been nice to have something else instead, such as avocado or other.
Chris, the manager, was AMAZING. Nothing was too much trouble. We loved how much he cared about us and took the time to talk with us about the property and its history. He was a really "stand out" manager.
The breakfast was excellent, we do not eat a cooked breakfast but were provided with Greek yoghourt, berries and even fresh figs from the garden, our companions did have the cooked breakfast, which they said was superb. The staff were excellent my and Richard went out of his way to be helpful (mending my glasses amongst other things) with charm and humour. The hotel may be a bit old fashioned and the rooms a bit dated but many more luxurious establishments could learn a thing or two about service with a smile from The Crown.
The room was quiet but quite small and the bathroom had awkward steps to negotiate, but it was all spotless - and as stated before.
Great staff, lovely breakfast
The staff very friendly and the breakfast very good. With a good selection of food.
Although the room was clean and tidy the decor was tired and dated and could have done with a lick of paint.
Lovely gardens, great bar, very comfortable rooms

Gutes Frühstück Ruhige Lage
Old fashioned hotel but all the better for it. Convenient for M11 and ? Stanstead. No food but excellent pub in village with great Thai food. Bedrooms comfortable with above adequate bathroom. Nice garden.
Could hear noise (tyre) from M11 despite double glazing (although I hadn't realised windows open due to hot weather!)
It was conveniently situated near both the village and the railway station. The staff were nice and helpful, the shower was good and breakfast was nice. All good
On arrival the Crown looked lovely and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The beds were immaculate and really comfortable.
Unfortunately overall the place was a bit tired and in need of some possibly minor repairs and decoration. We were in the Stable block access via a spiral staircase (no problem we have one at home) ...but it could've been cleaned it was obvious where guests held on to go up and down part of the handrail was really quite dirty..... and there was an outstanding repair needed on the staircase, it was safe but a bit loose. The bathroom needed to consider where guests could put their personal toiletries. The floor immediately outside the shower cubicle was also damaged with a visible hole covered by a wooden shower mat. A bit of a bugbear for me is plugholes..... they get 'mucky' they retain hair?!...... I have no wish to be welcomed to a bath plughole with someone else's detritus dried in it, there was also a long auburn hair lying in the bidet....... The breakfast looked very inviting, there was a slight negative on the poached eggs (and I've done it myself) poaching the eggs in vinegar water.... the vinegar was a bit overdone and the top part of the eggs was really vinegary. It would've been nice to see a milk alternative for breakfast (though to be fair I didn't ask). The pastries did seem a bit tired as if they weren't as fresh as you'd like. The dining chairs could do with a quick brush off after they are vacated, they did have crumbs still on the velour when we went into breakfast. The Cotswold type stone driveway was difficult to manoeuvre the suitcases luckily only weekend size, but the underneath and wheels got really dusty.
Wonderful breakfast with friendly team. Can recommend the full English. In a great spot to get to Saffron Walden and Cambridge. Comfortable beds and really appreciated the early check in after a very early start.
Nothing not to like.
Its location.
The water pressure in the shower was really low and the water temperature fluctuated quite badly.
Staff very welcoming, excellent price , close to Saffron Walden 7 mins in car . Excellent breakfast
Property getting a little tired
Nice patio garden, convenient location, decent breakfast
Lack of cleanliness: hair on the bed and in the bathroom Lukewarm water in the shower Needs proper blackout curtains, not flimsy ones which do not block the light at 4 am in the summer
The room was quiet and beds comfy
The furniture and bathroom were very dated . Buffet breakfast was very dry.
Nähe zum Bahnhof mit guten Anschlussmöglichkeiten nach Cambridge und London Freundliches Personal Großer Parkplatz Rufe Garten mit Tischen und Bänken
Unterkunft ist ein bisschen in die Jahre gekommen
A great option for an affordable overnight stay. The hotel was clean and the staff very welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area, available food options etc.
It was a hot evening and the room wasn't really setup to cope with this; no fan, air-con etc. Just a sash opening window, that i didnt feel comfortable leaving open overnight, as i was on the ground floor. The decor was a little dated but it did the job.
Gorgeous floral garden with both sun and shade. Would have happily spent all day there. Spacious and clean room. The staff were helpful and pleasant.
The mattress on the bed. For the price, pocket springs would have been more comfortable, especially as I wasn't the only one in the bed.
The staff , especially the owner Chris, he made the trip
The room was very comfortable, although the fan provided was a bit noisy. Could nhave done with a fridge.
The wi-fi was intermittent.
Good location for Duxford Airfield, comfortable bed with soft pillows. Plenty of choice for breakfast.
We were a little concerned that the breakfast yogurt and butter was not chilled as it was a very warm day. It would have been nice if they offered an evening meal, but were informed that the kitchen would not be open in the evening.
Staff were very friendly and helfull
Shower was not very powerfull
Good location
Dated and needs some tlc
Friendly staff and stay as expected considering no dinner option was available. Lovely patio to eat our picnic on
Maybe calling it a hotel when no evening food available is a bit misleading
The Crown is a oldie feel and it has history dating back.which we liked the court yard nice and quiet the room was lovely plenty of open garden space to sit and eat amongst the large marquee and onto the lawn breakfast was lovley.nothing was too much trouble friendly second to none for us.brill

Toilet didn't work Shower cubicle too small over bath TV did not work properly
Friendly staff and quiet

Property looked fantastic from the outside and the location was excellent - very close to the village centre!! Breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful
The double bed wasn’t a double bed - was two beds pushed together which made sleeping uncomfortable . The rooms probably needed a degree of updating decor- wise
Proximité pubs
Pas de climatisation
The location of the hotel was just right for us. Our room was really nice, with both a shower and a bath. The breakfast, choice of either continental or cooked, was good. Staff were also pleasant and helpful.
The only down side was the spiral staircase up to our room. We are older, so this was a little difficult.
Gorgeous property in the middle of a beautiful charming village. Beautiful gardens. Lovely staff. Lovely breakfast.

Friendly staff
Excellent hotel, great room, friendly, helpful staff. Traditionally furnished hotel, great breakfast. This was our 2nd stay, and would definitely stay again.
Staff extremely friendly and room was very comfortable
Nothing
The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was good. The room and the bedding were clean. There was plenty of parking.
The room we were in and the communal areas such as corridors and stairs were looking very tired. The bed was a bit hard for our liking, but that can be put down to personal preference. The curtains may as well be made of tissue paper so by 4am in the middle of June, it was daylight in the room. The bath had been repaired and there was a leak at the back of the toilet that was dealt with by putting a saucer under it to catch the water! All in all, we found it pretty disappointing, especially as it was not particularly cheap.
Nice size room
Could do with a refurb.
Hotel was extremely convenient to our friends house and the party we were attending and the staff were lovely and helpful.
Thought it was overpriced for what you got. Breakfast was ok but room dated and did not like not having blackout curtains in room which meant we were wide awake by 6am 😞
Welcoming and helpful staff
The property is needing renovation
Good car parking
Staff were friendly. Reasonable range on offer at breakfast.
We stayed in a room in the stable outbuilding. When we arrived in the car park, there was a broken down van on blocks, next to a broken down lawnmower. The shower in our room didn't work, (discovered when we arrived back late that night from the event we had travelled for), nor did the extractor fan. The whole place had a rather run down, uncared for feel, with chipped paintwork, a broken window in the dining room, and the garden looked unkempt. It all felt like it had seen better days, it had a tired, "down at heel" feel. There was a constant noisy rumble from, presumably, the heating, which went on almost all night. At breakfast, my poached egg on toast, and mushrooms arrived with the eggs plonked on top of two whole slabs of unbuttered toast, no effort to present it nicely. It was not acceptable, and certainly not for the price. I am an optimist at heart and can put up with a lot, I rarely leave feedback like this but I'm just being honest. It was really disappointing as we'd read good reviews about it, it's steeped in history and could be so good but clearly needs money spent on it to give it a thorough good clean and spruce up to be value for the money.
Good location
Felt very dated and in need of a freshen up
Breakfast was great and the staff are really friendly. I love staying here. The free parking is also very convenient. Chris is an absolute star and does everything he can to make the stay comfortable.
Arrived and met by very friendly member of staff who gave us key to upstairs room which was reached by a spiral staircase. My husband managed coming down by doing it backwards. Room (although paper peeling off back wall) and large bathroom spotlessly clean. Twin beds very comfortable. Hotel does not have a restaurant but there are 2 pubs within walking distance that do food. Breakfast was very well laid out and staff helpful.
Lovely big house shame it is not full of customers as lovely place and grounds
We were there as been to saffron Walden so not far to drive and pubs were close to walk
Comfortable room and bed. Well placed for visiting local pubs for a meal. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Breakfast was just ok, but not exceptional. Bedroom in stable block across from main hotel. Hotel itself in need of an update, a little run down.
Breakfast was good. Bed very comfortable
Slight musky smell in room when first arrived
Fantastic. Staff are amazing. Breakfast is amazing. Room was lovely. Only pointer, updating the old carpets in the bathroom for hygiene purposes. Carpets in bathrooms hold so many germs. It was very clean in fairness, but that update would make it that little bit better.
Good quality room with en suite, TV and tea/coffee facilities. Comfortable bed. Great breakfast. Plenty of parking. Good wifi.
It was a hot night so it was a shame the landing radiators were full on, also in the restaurant radiators full on when no need. Thermostatic valves had been removed or fallen off. Seems a waste of energy with windows and doors fully open. Generally a but tired and needs a lick of paint on the window frames.
This is a great stay, simple, but clean and well maintained. Great breakfast too
Nothing
Slept well good breakfast
I booked on line when we arrived at the hotel it said on the door it was closed ee drove to the plough in the village there boss new the boss of the Crown he apolgised and said it was a staff error and he was back at the crown we drove back and we wanted to go back to the plough for food as the crown doesent serve evening meals the arranged for someone to take us and puck us up
The location was nice
Good location and kind staff
Beds were too soft and uncomfortable, facilities in room were dated and WiFi was terrible which was an issue as I had to work from the room
Rust, vriendelijke gastheer/vrouw. Uitstekend/lekker ontbijt. Heel lekker tap bier. Prettige kamer.
Ontbreken diner mogelijkheid in het hotel.
Everything, from the welcome to the service at breakfast, the food, the cleanliness of the room and the facilities in the room.
We were on the main road in the village. However, although there was a reasonable amount of traffic, we weren't disturbed by it.
Plenty of parking space very good breakfast
Bon accueil. Ambiance typiquement british. Personnel très serviable.
Chambres un peu vieillottes. Aurait besoin d’un rafraîchissement. Le WC était descellé du mur et la TV ne fonctionnait pas correctement.
Really old historical building in a convenient location for our stop over stay Pretty room in the annexe. Amazing staff who clearly are very committed to excellent customer service. Great freshly cooked breakfast
Overall in need of a refurbishment, but accept that is very difficult in this current climate. Saying that, would definitely stay again if we were in the vicinity, because we were made to feel so welcome and that goes a long way in my book
Room was clean and comfortable and set up with twin beds as requested. The breakfast was lovely and the vegetarian option I had requested was available.
The room was a little warm for our liking but we were unable to find the heating controls to reduce the temperature.
Clean, comfortable, reasonably spacious room. Friendly staff. Good amount of space to park vehicle. Decent full English breakfast options.
Awful mattress (v saggy!) - needs replacing Bathroom recently renovated and very clean, but water pressure in the shower was very poor.
Staff went over and above and made me feel very welcome
Nothing.
Friendly staff, location, room played out as requested and the breakfast was really good with different options.
Nothing had a fantastic stay.
Our room was very comfortable. Huge comfy bed & modern, clean bathroom. We were made welcome on arrival & information we were given was very helpful. The breakfast was very good too. We had a lovely night here. Would highly recommend.
