Provider-sourced guest reviews.
I really wanted to love this hotel, but unfortunately, I was very disappointed. We were assigned the second-to-last room on the lowest floor of the building farthest from the main hotel. When we arrived, the room had an unpleasant odor and a large wet spot on the carpet. I had booked through a Virtuoso travel advisor back in March, hoping that would at least ensure we received a decent room. Instead, it felt as though we had been given one of the least desirable rooms on the property. The front desk told us there were no other rooms available but promised to place an odor-removal machine in our room. That never happened. More disappointing was the attitude of the staff—I often felt as though I was inconveniencing them whenever I asked for anything beyond the bare minimum. In my opinion, this is not a true luxury hotel. The overall experience felt only slightly above that of a standard Marriott, but with a significantly higher price tag. That said, the view is absolutely spectacular, and the lobby is a showstopper when you first walk in. Unfortunately, it felt as though the breathtaking setting was primarily what we were paying for. Tip: If you do book this hotel, I strongly recommend requesting a room outside the Ledges building—especially avoiding the bottom floor
Lacking in service. Tiller was terrible. Room was lovely.
Beautiful views but certainly not a luxury hotel. The room was nicely appointed. The pool and hot tub were filthy, and I was so surprised by this. Tiller restaurant was not awful but not great and overpriced. This place has potential with its stunning location and views but needs some improvement to consider itself a true luxury hotel.
We had a wonderful 3 night stay in an oceanfront room at the Cliff House. The hotel and grounds are lovely and the ocean front pool area is spectacular! It is very relaxing and is a great resort. We have stayed there many times as a couple and with our children and grandchildren as a group of 11. Every visit has been relaxing, restful, and lots of fun. It is truly a great vacation spot!
This is a beautiful place. It’s a shame they are missing so many components of a luxury hotel, especially related to food and service. The hostess at breakfast one morning was telling everyone they should have had a reservation and making them wait over an hour; when we finally sat, the restaurant was over half empty for our entire meal! The food was also overpriced and mediocre. They should assume that guests of the hotel want breakfast and should consider a nice buffet style breakfast. Room service doesn’t open till 7am. Since this place is about 10 minutes from other stores, they should really have a small store with snacks and necessities. The food at the pool was not good and the family pool lacked enough umbrellas. Some of the staff was kind, but others were rude and seemed annoyed about every question.
Save your money. What a joke this place is, definitely not a luxury resort which is wild when you are paying $1000/night. Where do I even begin? Dirty disgusting hot tub that left my bathing suit dirty. The guard shack as you come on the property completely unmanned, so literally anyone can come and go. They give you wristbands, but nothing on the property is locked but your room. Hotel maid carts in the middle of the halls all day, nobody cleaned our room daily until after 3pm. Restaurants and drinks subpar at best. No Volvos, where were the complimentary cars? Coffee service equaled a Keurig machine with a mini fridge in the lobby. Just all around the exact opposite of luxury. Not even the beautiful views could make this place a luxury resort. Save your money in Maine. This is absolutely not worth the price. Lesson learned; we booked this for our anniversary, a big one at that. Never again. Should have went to an all inclusive for the prices we paid.
We went for our 40th wedding anniversary and we loved it. Every person who works there makes a special point to make you feel welcome. The resort itself was spectacular and had every amenity you could want. We loved the adult pool and hot tub with drink and food assistance from your beach chair. We enjoyed the live entertainment both inside and outside and the beautiful fire pit. We had our anniversary dinner in the Tiller restaurant and our server was Lorena. She was amazing and made an extra special effort to make sure we enjoyed every minute. The manager also made an effort to stop by. The next night we ate at the Terrace and had Nick as our server and he was great too very professional. you have made great choices with both of them. Finally the grounds with all the beautiful flowers and plants will blow you away. Finally the men who valet park the cars we very nice making an effort to give information and check on how everything is going.
The views from the hotel are breathtaking. It is a gorgeous setting. However, we found our view from floor 2 of The Ledges to be a disappointment, not exactly as advertised. We were looking at grass, with some ocean beyond. There were some gnats or something here and there in the room. One of the drawers was broken and when I pulled it open it fell on my arm, leaving a bruise. It also exposed some dust and dirt that lurks under the drawer. Maintenance put the drawer back in but it still did not open. There are some straw bags usually in each room that was missing from ours. Everyone we saw had them and when asked they would remark that they are free in the room to use, so we called the desk to ask for one to be put in our room. The person at the front desk told us that "some rooms do have them, but not all". Not what you want to hear when you pay $1200 per night to stay in the Ledges, but okay. We never got a bag even though they stock them at the gift shop. I would say this is a beautiful setting with so-so service. The Tiller restaurant had great service and that was a plus. The take away is when you come to a place like this, you don't want to feel overlooked but that is how we felt. Everyone said they wanted to make things better but then never did, never checked in with us to see if things were remedied. In my opinion the resort is nice enough for us to give it another shot, but I would not go in the busy season.
An Extraordinary Coastal Retreat w/ Truly Exceptional Service!!!! Cliff House was an unforgettable part of my husband's birthday and our anniversary trip and the property is every bit as spectacular as we had hoped. From the beautiful accommodations and gorgeous pool to the sound of the waves and countless places to pause and enjoy the scenery every detail makes this resort feel incredibly special. What made our stay even more memorable, however, was the kindness and care of the team. Concierges Justin and Troy were wonderful. Justin’s thoughtful gift of wishing stones to take down to the ocean was such a meaningful and personal touch that we will always remember!! My husband enjoyed learning more about the history of the property and this really cemented a meaningful trip. Troy also provided absolutely excellent service and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout our visit. We would also especially like to recognize Gavin at the pool, who was so attentive and welcoming, and Andrew, our server, whose exceptional service helped make our experience even more enjoyable. Each of them added warmth and personality to an already remarkable stay. We did experience an issue with the air conditioning in our room, but the team responded with genuine concern and worked diligently to assist us. We greatly appreciated the attention, communication, and effort made to address the situation. The way a property handles an unexpected issue says so much and the care shown to us only reinforced the high level of hospitality at Cliff House. The rooms were stunning (we moved during our stay due to availability) and we loved experiencing different views from either side of the property!! Such a a truly incredible property that is breathtaking, peaceful, luxurious without feeling pretentious and filled with people who understand how to make a stay feel personal. We left with wonderful memories and would absolutely love to return. Cliff House Maine is a very special place and we wholeheartedly recommend it!!
Excellent stay for a sans kids milestone birthday getaway. Top notch rooms, killer view, nice touches like turndown service, and stunning large spa. So glad this property is maintained and doing well about a decade after opening. Only snag was the instructor didn’t show up for an 8am workout class which was a bummer for the group of us up and dressed!
We’ve just returned from our fifth stay at Cliff House Maine, and once again it reminded us why we keep coming back. There are plenty of beautiful hotels, but very few that consistently deliver the combination of spectacular scenery, exceptional service, and a genuine feeling that they’re always trying to get even better. The property itself is stunning. The ocean views never get old, everything is impeccably maintained, and the atmosphere is relaxing from the moment you arrive. What really separates Cliff House, though, is the people. A special thank you to Abigail at The Tiller Restaurant, who took wonderful care of us. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made every meal more enjoyable. Hospitality like hers is becoming harder to find. At the front desk, Chloe was fantastic. Every interaction was warm, welcoming, and professional. It’s amazing how much of a difference one person can make in setting the tone for your stay, and Chloe does exactly that. From check in to check out she was on it! And then there’s Troy and Justin from the concierge team. They are simply the best. We’ve stayed at luxury hotels all over the country, and I can honestly say they are among the finest concierge professionals we’ve ever encountered. Whether it’s recommendations, reservations, or just making sure everything is perfect, they always go above and beyond with genuine enthusiasm. I also want to recognize Nancy and the entire leadership team. You can tell this resort is run by people who truly care. Every time we return, we notice little improvements around the property. Nothing feels overlooked, and it’s obvious that the goal isn’t just to maintain a great resort—it’s to keep making it even better. That commitment really shows. The only reason I’m mentioning this is because everything else is so good: please replace the pull-out sofas. They are completely out of place in a resort of this caliber. They remind me of the old sleeper sofas from decades ago that leave your back aching after one night. We wouldn’t even recommend them for children, let alone adults. Upgrading them would eliminate the only weak spot in an otherwise outstanding experience. Even with that one issue, Cliff House remains one of our favorite resorts anywhere in New England. The location is incredible, the staff is outstanding, and the level of service keeps us coming back year after year. We’re already looking forward to visit number six.
Everything was a 5 star experience except for our 50th anniversary meal at Tiller. We sat in the Terrace and the staff was great but our meals were not great. By the time it was served to us the gravy had congealed and food was cold. We cancelled dinner for the following evening at Tiller.
Beautiful resort with onsite dining. Very efficient and friendly staff.
The hotel is stunning! The staff is attentive, friendly, and truly want to make your stay at the hotel comfortable. Michael from Virginia who welcomed us at the front desk was especially accommodating and knowledgeable. This hotel will not disappoint you!
The Cliff House is a 5 star fantastic property with excellent food, high service, beautiful accommodations
The hotel is located near the town of Ogunquit ME. It is set on top of a cliff overlooking the Atlantic. The hotel is spread out so you will do a lot of walking to go from reception and the restaurants to your room. The views of the Atlantic and the cliff side are wonderful. We had an oceanfront room with a balcony allowing us to enjoy the salt breezes and the soothing views. There is a significant downside though. Sand fleas! They were bad. Be prepared. They can and do get in your room if you aren’t careful with closing the screens. The fleas also make it impossible to sit in the morning outside on the balcony to enjoy the sunrises. Management came to spray when we took them of the problem but it didn’t help. We were on level 2 of the Ledges section which is actually cliff level. Perhaps floors above us didn’t have that issue. The Tiller restaurant is good with lovely views. Service here however was indifferent at best. Do yourself a favor and go into Perkins Cove, Wells or Kennebunkport for good restaurants. The concierges are helpful and pleasant. They arranged dinner reservations in town and some good leisure activities like a lobster boat tour. Front desk staff are pleasant also but understaffed. They lost an important FedEx package sent to me and it was only located after repeated queries. Self parking is available close to the rooms so don’t waste your money with valet ($25 / day). The valet is slow in any event and if you are exploring the coast you won’t want to wait all the time for your car. Bottom line is this is a nice hotel with well appointed rooms and pleasant decor. Service needs to improve in the restaurants. I would consider coming back here again.
I wanted to take my wife of 50 years somewhere special for our 50th Anniversary. Because of present world events we felt uncomfortable traveling out of country so decided to do the Maine coast instead. We have stayed here before and decided to spend our 50th close to home. We choose wisely. This is a special place with a wonderful location, gorgeous views of the ocean and cliffs, well trained staff and exceptional to deal with. We booked a Corner Suite since it was a special occasion and were not disappointed. My wife's reaction when entering the room made the whole trip worthwhile. It is a stunning room and view. She absolutely loved the room and view. I booked the Romance package with roses, chocolates and rose petal turndown and the staff did not disappoint. Absolutely lovely Roses, we could not have been happier with the presentation. The two guest services people I dealt with to arrange this, Terra and Aaron, did a fantastic job, can't thank them enough. We dined at the Tiller restaurant for breakfast and dinner and enjoyed good meals each time. The staff at The Tiller restaurant went above and beyond helping us celebrate our 50th Anniversary we felt sincerely humbled by the ever-attentive staff. Your actions were very much appreciated by my wife and I. Pool was nice and lounge and bar area also very nice. Hot tub really nice to enjoy with the ocean views. Only issue we encountered was in the Spa reservation, but considerate management took care of the problem in a professional manner with no problems. In all we had a fantastic stay and hated to leave such a beautiful place. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone for any occasion, it is special. I will also add we spent some time a short distance away at another supposedly first-class establishment, Inn by the Sea, a month later, with a much more disappointing result. I also reviewed that stay in more depth which you can see on the inns trip advisor sight. I will only say The Cliff house is the best place we have stayed on the Maine coast period. Nothing quite compares. We will be back again soon. Thank you everyone at the Cliff house for a wonderful experience we will not forget.
What an amazing place! From the moment we arrived everything about the Cliff House is a 10. The views of the ocean are beautiful as is the property. Every employee we met was very professional and knowledgeable ready to do whatever needed to make our stay perfect. We enjoyed the activities in the hotel especially the spa and making a moose. We enjoyed dinner at the on-site restaurant especially the 'lazy lobster' and steak cooked to perfection. Our return visit to the Cliff House is in the planning stages!
Our family stay at the Cliff House Maine in June 2026 was absolutely spectacular. If you are looking for a flawless coastal escape, this is it. What We Loved: Property & Rooms: The entire resort was immaculate. Our room was pristine, beautifully maintained, and comfortable. Outstanding Views: The ocean vistas from the property are breathtaking Staff & Service: Staff members were genuinely helpful and welcoming. We loved that the pool areas were fully staffed. Specifically, we want to recognize Andrea H. (Director of Rooms) and Chloe at the front desk. Several personal items of ours were misplaced and they (along with others) did everything they could to locate the items on the property and then ship them overnight to us in a different state, several days after we checked out. Just another example of the outstanding staff. Food & Drinks: The dining thoroughly impressed us. Every meal and drink was fantastic and matched the high standards of the resort. We couldn't have asked for a better June vacation. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend Cliff House to any family visiting Maine!
Beautiful with outstanding staff. Great location to relax and travel into Ogunquit or Kennebunk or just sit by the pool looking out at the ocean. The staff at the pool are fabulous. Seems to be a popular wedding spot so keep that in mind when ordering morning room service as they seem overwhelmed the morning after a wedding. Also if you order pancakes be advised they come with potatoes & coffeecake even though that’s not in the description. Knowing that ahead I would have asked to switch to a less carb option as a side!! For dinner I highly recommend the lobster fried rice!
Cliff House is an exceptional experience all around. 5 Star property for sure and very welcoming staff. Every aspect was really perfect. Ogonquit is incredibly quaint and fun and just a short drive. Highly recommend.
We stayed at the Cliff House over Memorial Day weekend. While the weather was rainy and cold, we enjoyed our stay. We were in the Ledges wing and our room had spectacular views. Breathtaking. The rooms were extremely well appointed with luxurious sheets and mattresses and nice little touches like bespoke robes, woven baskets, electric candles for your balcony, binoculars, and luxury bath products. What I really loved was the coffee station near each room with a Keurig machine for coffee and tea, with local milk and cream in glass bottles in a fridge. It also had filtered water, both hot and cold that you could fill up your in room water bottle with. So nice not to have to trek all the way to the lobby for this. Sleep quality was excellent and the housekeeping was swift and professional. We had dinner and breakfast at Tillers. I will say it was VERY expensive and dare I say overpriced for what you got. Drinks were somewhat watered down. Four small pieces of bread for the table should have been complimentary but cost $10. That was unnecessary. Slightly short staffed as well. Dinner for four was over $600 (with three alcoholic beverages) and breakfast was $150. On a rainy weekend, I also felt they could have had a few more activities like candle making or decoupage in the afternoons but they had them and weird, off times. We didn’t use the spa but it looked lovely though wildly expensive. Overall this is a wonderful property and we would love to come again and it would be truly spectacular if the weather cooperated. Probably would skip The Tiller as there are plenty of area restaurants that deliver more for the price.
Sunny afternoon, 30°C, and where to go. After seeing the views offered at The Cliff House we went to spend several hours seated outdoors, enjoying the sun. The Tiller Restaurant has a bar, and when we went to order our drinks, we were well greeted by the mixologist. He professionally conjured up our drinks to perfection which we thoroughly enjoyed. So much so, we went back for second rounds. Ocean views, beautiful landscaping, serene and inviting is how I would describe our surroundings. We spent a memorable several hours and will return should we ever be out this way again.
Property was on a beautiful location and had lovely common areas and great outdoor space with pool etc
The property was a little too far out of town to walk and did not offer any shuttle service.
This was a such a wonderful stay! The room was clean…although the mattress was extra firm. The balcony made us feel like we were on a cruise! You could leave the doors open and fall asleep listening to the ocean! The view was spectacular! We watched the sun rise from the balcony chairs! The staff were all super friendly and helpful! Dinner was wonderful. We will come back for sure. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for rings true in this case!
Although it is just a 40 minute drive up the beautiful coast of Maine for me I always feel as though I’m stepping off of a luxurious private jet when I step foot on the entrance to the cliff house. When the welcoming staff opened the two front doors to welcome me to the lobby, It’s in that moment that it seems all reality is left behind, and the only thing before you is immaculately stunning ocean views of the coast of Maine reflecting off of the floor to ceiling windows that greet you like doors to heaven. The upscale accommodations, mouthwatering food from breakfast to dinner, exquisite details in their decor esthetic, and ability to satisfy a romantic getaway or a family trip to remember, are not what sets the cliff house apart from any other experience you may have elsewhere. It is the professionalism poise, and sincerity that is shown to you by every staff member from housekeeping to event manager. Mary Ryan was a name in particular that I would have to highly recommend to assist you in making your experience one you won’t soon forget. She was nothing short of a Fairy Godmother who which a flick of her wand had the ability to make you feel like royalty. From stocking your fridge with your favorite beverages and snacks, to scheduling activities for the kids throughout the day…her expertise is personalized to your interests to ensure your stay is made uniquely special to you. Each recommendation she provided from morning coffee to dinner cocktails was everything and anything I could have hoped for. A few days with her itinerary suggestions will have you feeling like a 2 week vacation in 48 hours. There isn’t a hallway you could walk down without being greeted with a smile and friendly hello from staff, or a drink you could order without being remembered by name and cocktail of choice during your stay. Its beauty speaks for itself, but its quality is a true reflection of its employees. Always grateful for my experience and hope so many others are able to have a taste of paradise in any season!
I was very disappointed with my stay at The Cliff House. This was supposed to be a special girls trip for Mother’s Day, and we chose this hotel expecting a relaxing and memorable experience, but unfortunately it turned out to be extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, it was apparent that the hotel’s service has gone downhill. There were only two bellmen working while a wedding party was also arriving, and they seemed completely overwhelmed. As guests, we felt pushed aside and ignored from the very beginning of our stay. The property overall appeared to be understaffed, as service throughout the stay was consistently slow. The restaurant experience was especially frustrating — it took a long time to receive service, and the food was underwhelming and not worth the price. To add to injury, the air conditioning in my room was not working properly, which made the stay slightly uncomfortable. We chose to wait until checkout to report these issues because we did not want to spend the trip complaining or dealing with maintenance during our stay. However, when we approached the manager Sarah about our concerns, instead of addressing them professionally, she became defensive, repeatedly insisting that we should have reported everything immediately instead of waiting until checkout. She also insisted the because they are a hotel of high caliber they were fully staffed even with the wedding happening and spoke in a demeaning manner, which only added to our frustration. For a hotel that markets itself as luxury, the level of service, professionalism, and hospitality fell far below expectations. Sadly, this experience has made me question whether I would want to return to this hotel again in the future. I do want to mention that we had a positive experience with front desk concierge Tae. She was very professional and understanding before we met Sarah.
Traveled from Texas to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. Never been to New Englad before. The CliffHouse was one of the best experiences at a resort we've ever had. The service and hospitality were 5-Star!
Great hotel, location, service, and interior design. My wife and I stayed in the Ledges again, overlooking the cliff with ocean view. This was our (guessing) 4th stay. We love this place, so needless to say, we will be back.
The location, beautiful view, double king rooms for girls trips.
The check-in staff were dismissive of what we were told by concierge services and didn’t communicate with each other.
From the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely top notch. The staff is very welcoming very friendly, beyond just the usual all smiles hospitality you expect at a hotel. These folks all act like they have a vested interest in making your stay the best.
In late February I stayed at Cliff House with friends. Unfortunately it was in the aftermath of a winter blizzard, when the inn was experiencing power outages. On the plus side, the staff, almost to a person, was friendly, courteous and helpful. The room was clean, as was the rest of the place. The expansive views of the Atlantic are unrivaled anywhere else in Maine. On the minus side, we were told the outdoor pool temp was 86 degrees - no where near that. The hot tub was okay, but certainly not the 106 degrees the staff advised. When we got up the following morning, there was no electricity. I could barely find my way to the lobby due to the poorly lit emergency lighting, where it even existed, and the incredibly confusing and poorly marked maze of corridors from the room. The concierge at the desk said that the power had to be shut down between 6 am and 9 am while electricians worked on restoring the power lost during the blizzard. A fire would have resulted in catastrophe. Stairways were pitch black, and the first stairway door I attemped to open was locked. We were told we could not use the hot tub the following morning as its heater, too, had shut down with the power outage. Not a satisfying experience for a $638 a night room. The $50 room credit we received is small consolation, especially since we will not be returning.
Outstanding hotel with wonderful ocean views and great rooms etc. Excellent dinner at Tiller Restaurant-A beautiful and relaxing place!
Attempted to have an event there. When we asked to move forward to contract phase, they completely canceled on us and ghosted us. No explanation, no reply on email, and no call back. If this is the type of customer service they offer when you’re willing to spend thousands of dollars imagine the way they feel about a patron only spending a couple of hundred. I would advise against this establishment.
My husband and I recently stayed at The Cliff House in Maine. It is a beautiful hotel, with a beautiful view of the ocean. Unfortunately, we had cold and rainy weather and we were looking forward to getting back to the room and taking a nice hot shower. When we attempted to do so we discovered there was absolutely no hot water! Given the caliber and cost of this hotel, we were very disappointed. We immediately contacted the front desk, but it took a considerable amount of time for a staff person to arrive at our room to investigate. When the technician finally arrived, we were told that the lack of hot water was simply because "everyone was taking showers at the same time" and that there was no way to fix the situation. Well, I understand that high demand can strain systems, however, receiving a lukewarm response and no effort to provide an alternative solution was unacceptable. As a guest, we expect basic amenities like hot water to be available, regardless of how many guests are using the facilities. The delay in response and the dismissive nature of the resolution left us feeling quite frustrated. In addition, when I tried to provide feedback it was impossible to reach anyone directly.
Everything was amazing; from check in to valet to dinner at Nubbs, the hot tub, drinks, dinner at Tiller, the guest room, the sunrise views; not one single complaint from this getaway with my husband!
My review may be bias as I have a background in hotels and the restaurant industry but here it goes: Upon arrival valet was great, helped with the bags. Front desk staff was definitely new but polite and helpful, her manager was clearly up tight and snapped at her for an honest mistake . I genuinely felt bad for her. Main areas of the hotel, seemingly well kept, staff was very friendly , and hospitable . As far as the room goes, some signs of wear and tear, carpeting (not a fan), bathroom is your standard tub and shower in a double king, but only half a shower curtain, left over conditioner from The last guest ? The body wash and shampoo were most certainly the same thing in different bottles ? Water pressure wasn’t great, and the hot water at the sink didn’t get too hot, took a while to get warm. The couches in the common area in front of the tiller and spa are tired, they need to be replaced for sure , not enough seating and lights too bright for cocktail hour into the evening. People letting their kids run a muck long after dinner, just what I want to listen to spending anywhere from $500-$2000 a night . Dining : The tiller restaurant was fine, I would call it upscale casual vs fine dining . Food was good, bar tenders were fabulous. Shout out to Dominique and Lauren ! Nubbs wasn’t bad but for $40 for a lobster roll I want to be wow’d Maine is the lobster capital of the world , basically . One jacuzzi that was loaded with humans gave me the ick. For a resort this size they don’t seem to have enough spa resources to support the demand? You definitely need to be booking your spa services far in advance, do not wait until you arrive you won’t get in. Now to be fair they are winding down from their busy season just before they pause for updates . But for what they charge per night, and for what other ratings have shared, this place didn’t quite meet my expectations . This is a solid spot for a staycation, as I think every couple there this weekend was 9 Mos pregnant and about to go into labor. Definitely family friendly as kids can run wild virtually anywhere on site. I’d consider returning during the on season, because again to be fair, this is their off season.
I have been pondering how to share our experience. We came here in the Fall of 2024 and had a great experience. We wanted to go back and bring other people with us and decided to do so during the holidays. I booked a 2 night stay and a couple of rooms for Dec, 2025. While there, we encountered rude staff in the restaurant that really surprised me. And just so you know....I walked into an empty restaurant and they were going to seat us in the middle of the restaurant. I asked if we could be seated by the windows. Again, the restaurant is empty. I was told I had to go back out to the lobby area and WAIT. And then was told that I had to request the seats by the window BEFORE we arrived at the restaurant. It was a strange experience but we waited and ultimately got to sit by the window. But the worst part came when we checked out. After our first night, a snowstorm was coming in during the 2nd night. We didn't want to get "stuck" out of town so we switched our flight and checked out at 11:00 am. No problems at this point except I had been overcharged for something and requested a credit. (We were overcharged in the hotel store as well but they fixed it there). The guy said he was going to have to have his mgr correct it. We were on our way to make a quick stop at the Lighthouse down the street before heading to the airport. The Mgr called on the way and asked me if I knew I had booked a 2 night stay and I told her I did. That was it. No mention of the credit. I hung up and when I got back in the car after seeing the lighthouse, the mgr had called multiple times and blew my phone up with text messages telling me I was going to have to pay for the 2nd night. I told her I did not understand that I checked out this morning without any problems and was not charged for the 2nd room. She said I had booked 2 nights and was going to have to pay for the 2nd night. I didn't understand this but text her that if the hotel needed the money that bad, then take it. (At this point, I feel like they have stolen the money from me.) She would NOT let it go and continued texting me. And it's more of the tone of the texts then anything else. She threatened to pull up the recording of when I called to make reservations. Seriously??? I already told her I knew I had made a 2 night reservation. Then she said someone would call me to discuss further. To this day, no one has but they sure charged me for the 2nd night and I only got a partial credit. So...as much as I loved this hotel, it has left and very bad impression on me and I have no desire to go back. Just be careful!
Top Notch beautiful, clean Resort, staff all excellent. We give it a million stars! Beautiful lobby overlooking ocean listening to Live Music, we def recommend, family friendly too. We will return since we loved it at CH.
We planned this trip to Maine for years and booked a Coastal View room at the cliff house for the outlook and position. (At the time of booking, the I am sure the website referenced “cliff”; it now reads “coastal.”) Noting we did not book ocean front and didn’t expect ocean front. We also did not book partial view. The room we were assigned delivered a partial coastal view at best. roof-dominated the view. No lighthouse was visible from this room. At check-in, a team member acknowledged it was “not a good room” and indicated this is a known issue with certain rooms in this category, but we were told there was nothing they could do no room move, waitlist, or gesture. Just sorry and bad luck. Separately, my Dyson Airwrap went missing on departure day. I called immediately, completed the online report link provided, and after a week with no update I called again for the 3rd time and was told it was “not found.” For a high-value item used in the room and then gone, that response and timeline were inadequate. Service overall felt average, with no compensation or proactive problem-solving for either issue. Positives: Justin who I spoke with today at Concierge was excellent, and the valet team were consistently professional and friendly. Cliff House - do better! 1. Reclassify any rooms with roof-dominated outlooks as “Partial Coastal View (obstructed)” and price accordingly. 2. Front desk should offer an alternative, a waitlist, or a goodwill adjustment when a view is known to be subpar. We are not fussy and demanding people. 3. Lost & Found should acknowledge quickly and provide updates within 24–48 hours. It’s missing and is now just bad luck. Bottom line: The setting is beautiful, but the hotel did not match what was expected. Not even close. Given the partial coastal view in a Coastal View category plus the unresolved missing item, we have been left incredibly disappointed. This was a once in a lifetime trip that we came a long way for. This hotel is overrated.
We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at the resort. It was was relaxing with stunning views. We enjoyed the adult pool and sitting by the fire pit each evening. It was really cool to walk down the stairs of the cliff and walk on the rocks in the ocean. Nubb's Lobster Shack was a delicious option to order from during the day and eating by the pool. The staff was happy and wonderful. There was a night that there was a one man band singer who was excellent. We hope to go back again, however it is very expensive to stay at.
What an amazing experience we had at The Cliff House Maine celebrating my husband's retirement. From dining to the Spa, site seeing, dancing to the live music and just relaxing enjoying all the spectacular. We left the doors open to enjoy the views from the balcony of our room. Our rooms were serviced every day we stayed. There was nothing that we did not receive, we will definitely return hopefully with family or friends to share the experience
My husband and I had wanted to stay here for many years, so we decided to spend the night to celebrate our retirements. It is definitely expensive, even in the off-season, but the views and experience were worth it. We did have an issue at check-in with our room category and had to wait an hour to get it sorted out. But the staff was very kind and apologetic. It would have helped if there had been pictures of the views from the various rooms on the website when booking. Once in our room, all went well. Lovely amenities including robes and slippers and even a shoe polishing kit. There is lovely art hanging in the halls and various activities offered for adults like yoga, seaglass crafts, and live music. The property is very well kept and beautifully landscaped. Our room was spotless including a water bottle and extra glasses, binoculars, and a super comfortable bed. The walls are slightly thin as we could hear folks next door but only occasionally and it did not disturb us. It was too cold to use the pool outside and we didn't realize there was an indoor pool so we didn't bring our bathing suits. There is a gorgeous spa that we will try next time we visit. Make sure you book the "right" room for your preferences and you will have a wonderful time!
Lovely view, that’s where it stops. There are lovely views in Ongonquit. You are miles from anything, for some that’s great. The 600 plus dollar room looks out on a roof top, with planters on the roof top, admittedly with the ocean beyond the roof top. As noted in prior reviews the food is very expensive, reservations a must or you’re out of luck. This may be a great spot for some, simply beware of what you will get for your money.
Our stay over the summer at the Cliff House was enjoyable. Great property with amazing views and well kept. We wish we knew before we booked that we wouldn’t be able to use the main pool due to our children’s ages. Unfortunately, we had an issue with one of their new EV chargers and after multiple stops at the front desk and a few phone calls, I never received a response from the manager. I ended up having to pay a ridiculous $100 bill for literally $3 worth of electricity.
The views were absolutely breath taking every where on the property. Staff extremely friendly and caring. Night time entertainment was a plus.
Spectacular resort! The views are million dollar views. Watching the sun rise to looking at the moon on the water, it is amazing! Listening to the waves wash up on the cliffs is relaxing all on its own. You can sit in one of the many chairs along the property and watch and listen for hours.
Beautiful hotel & grounds. View from my room was breathtaking
Beautiful clean room with the most amazing views! Staff is very friendly and shoutout to Mark and Mariam for welcoming my kids with some fun snacks after our long trip to get here! Words can’t describe our experience at the Cliff House.. just WOW!
Breathtaking views, the staff were so kind and friendly to everyone, always smiling! Our room was just beautiful, so large and comfortable with a glassed in balcony to enjoy those ocean views and AMAZING sunrises!!
My wife and I stayed here for our annual anniversary trip. While the resort is luxury priced it lives up to and often exceeds expectations. The staff is extaordinary, going above and beyond for guests. I highly recommend Cliff House.
Incredible hotel. Can’t recommend enough.
Ocean views were stunning! Beautiful stay!
Beautiful property. The restaurant is great and the views are amazing. The best part is Dick, the morning concierge. I don’t think I ever encounter a guy who cares so much about giving you information. It made estarse. On the negatives, the rooms feel a bit dated ad the after hours front desk lady seemed lost.
The staff were phenomenal. The hotel was gorgeous and the views majestic. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommended it.
It was a great stay. friendly staff.. and nice area. pool could of been a little warmer, but jacuzzi was nice. overall wonderful hotel.
The Cliff House is a jewel resort in Southern Maine that offers a five star experience in every aspect. Besides an incredible location overlooking an impressive wall of glacier formed rock walls and miles of ocean, this resort offers great restaurants, a well trained staff and extremely comfortable sheets and beds. The expansive view of the horizon and ocean we saw from the comfort of our bed, gave us the feeling of being on an ocean liner without the turbulence, The house keeping was the best we ever experienced. Housekeeper Tracey Anne went above and beyond and created a sculpture out of towels of two love swans to celebrate our wedding anniversary! Now that's exceptional! Not only was our room spotless and organized each day, the entire facility was well maintained and very very clean. There is obviously a lot of staff to keep this place running smoothly and efficiently thereby making sure every guest is happy. The interior design of this resort is well appointed and gives one the feeling of calmness and relaxation. We love the color palette and design elements supporting the nautical theme. The Concierge's were super - Tess and Chloe were a delight and very helpful. Together with several other concierges, all our reservations and daily itineraries were seamlessly arranged. The spa is worth every penny - great ambiance and terrific pros running the place. Zoey was a terrific young therapist. Besides the staff, senior management cares just as much for the guest experience. I met manager Andrew Bartlett who greeted me as I walked by. He offered any assistance I might need - but his staff is so buttoned up - "hello" was all I needed. If you want an unforgettable breakfast or dinner - The Tiller Restaurant offers incredible food and service with some interesting twists on usual favorites. So... can't wait to get back soon. Best vacation ever! Thanks everyone.
We were celebrating our 10th Anniversary and we asked about upgrading our room and the front desk representative pleasantly upgraded our stay. The staff around the resort were all friendly and accommodating.
The property and staff were excellent. There was an issue with the restaurant Tiller as there was not enough staff to serve the guests.
Everything was excellent
Amazing place!! This is our third time here and we always end up extending our stay. Wonderful place to relax by the coast and just disconnect from everything. Highly recommend.
Just to be sitting on the cliff enjoying the view while eating breakfast, lounging by the pool or hot tub walking the grounds,Heaven pure heaven.
Exceptional resort 5 stars!
Spectacular ocean views. Wonderful service and staff. Excellent dining options.
We had an ocean front room with a beautiful view! It was very clean The bed was comfortable. The food and drinks were good. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
D all of the above
Amazing room with ocean view, pool and hot tub overlooking cliffs. Room was so comfortable, felt like being on a private yacht without the movement!
Cliff House has amazing views but lacks the essentials of a 5 star hotel. Rooms were basic, service was mediocre, restaurant was overbooked and underwhelming. Market shop had limited hours and didn’t operate to the hours published. Overall, you’re paying for the view. The service and amenity don’t match.
The scenery is breathtaking and the food absolutely amazing but a few key points missing for such a high price. Make sure you upgrade to Ocean Front! We stayed in Room 646 and I recommend this room as has a perfect view of the ocean! The room itself is good but lacks space for your clothes! There is 1 dresser but it literally only has about an 8 inch depth. I was confused was it was a half drawer. Only could fit underwear and socks. The chairs and sitting area aren’t well proportioned either. On the good side the balcony is breathtaking and lovely to sit and watch the ocean! You must book months in advance to get a table at the tiller! We were able to get a spot at the bar that serves full menu. Food is absolutely terrific!! Lobster chowder, bread plate, Caesar salad and Salmon all fantastic!! Not over priced either! I rated a 4 of 5 as they just miss on friendliness all around. The check in area people and valet not friendly. Wait staff-bartender (Jana) and room cleaners all amazing! Overall I highly recommend just wish a few of the details listed above would be better especially at $750 a night.
We always enjoy the CliffHouse very much, but we just wish the food was better for both lobster shack and tillersons
The location is incredible and a tranquil place to get lost.
What’s not to love. It’s Cliff House!!
Great pools, staff very friendly, property is beautiful.
What a Wonderful place!!!!
Everyone was very hospitable and professional. We felt very welcome and enjoyed our moments
The Cliff House hosted our family wedding in mid-July. The staff was exceptionally professional and worked exceedingly well with our family planner. Chef Nathan was professional, accommodating and even provided specially items for the wedding meal and after party. We appreciate the GM, directors and staff for all the special touches.
Overrated, overpriced and an overwhelming disappointment. We were shocked when we entered our room and things never improved. The room was massively expensive and did not live up to the price. We had better rooms in Bar Harbor that cost half the price. Our room was very dark, we had to turn the lights on at 10am in the morning even though the weather was beautiful and sunny. The outdoor terraces, were small and filthy. There was bird poop and it remained there throughout our stay. Our room had two safes, which was fortunate since one of them did not work. Our room had two showers one of which did not work with hot water coming erratically. The very noisy air conditioning went off at night and came on every morning at 6am very loudly so we were woken every morning. The pillows were filthy and smelled of body odor - horrible! One positive thing, the valet parking team were excellent as were the servers at breakfast. Never again!
Beautiful views of ocean from almost every vantage point. Well maintained.
Nothing
We had an amazing stay at Cliffhouse and were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful it is. The only minor issues we encountered were that the pullout couch was quite uncomfortable for our kids, and it was frustrating that children aren’t allowed in the main pool—everyone with kids ends up crowded around a small pool off to the side. Aside from that, everything else was fantastic!
We had a very loud a/c fan off of our deck making it loud in our room and horrible to sit outside and enjoy the ocean view.
The amazing staff and room service
Incredible views and very confortable rooms
Pool 🏊 s freezing. Great property, service, food. But pool freezing, everyone complaining. Very warm last time. Raise the temperature.
We recently spent 3 nights at the Cliff House. We booked the vacation months ago and were very much looking forward to a special getaway. We have never been to the property before so did not fully understand the differences in the rooms-- we had relied on the room descriptions. We knew we wanted an ocean view room and liked the idea of being in the main hotel so booked a Terrace King Room. The website states that "Terrace Rooms feature oversized terraces with lounge chairs and umbrella, directly facing the Atlantic Ocean from their perch above our seasonal Terrace Dining area." What we didn't realize is that while the room is ocean facing, it does NOT have an ocean view. The view of the ocean is completely obstructed by the restaurant and this should be more clearly stated in the room description. We were so disappointed by the view and the lack of privacy (imagine restaurant patrons in direct view of our room). We immediately went to the front desk to express our disappointment. They were unapologetic and couldn't make any changes as the hotel was completely sold out. For a hotel of this caliber, where we are spending over $1000 per night, a gesture for our inconvenience would have been nice. Additionally, our stay was a Thurs-Sunday and there was a wedding each day. The pool was packed and we couldn't find any chairs. Luckily, with some patience and perseverance, Adrean went above and beyond and eventually found 2 chairs by the pool for us. If we return, we will be sure to visit in the beginning the week (not a weekend( and reserve a different room type. Overall, we expected more from this property.
The property is beautiful, but the service and quality fall far short of 5-star standards. Our first room was unacceptable—stained carpet (maybe dried up blood?), mold in the shower, and peeling paint on the ceiling. No attentive staff should have cleared this room for guests, yet we were charged $800/night. Hours later, we were moved to another room down the hall. Unfortunately, it was a connecting room with thin walls and poor soundproofing, so we were woken up every morning at 6:30 a.m. by screaming children in the adjacent room. To be fair, that part wasn’t the hotel’s fault—they don’t control kids—but it was still unfortunate for my wife and me. I raised the issue of the first room with the manager and hotel director, who never proactively reached out. When I requested that one night be removed from our bill, I was told no—because it was supposedly my fault for not switching rooms sooner, even though the new room wasn’t ready before our on-site dinner at Tiller (which was excellent). Instead, I was offered a $150 room service credit. I declined because I found it insulting. The second room was clean and in good condition, which made it clear the first room should never have been assigned. Paint doesn’t peel overnight. Mold doesn’t grow in a day. They knowingly placed us in a substandard room. In the end, we traded mold and filth for 6:30 a.m. wake-ups. A very disappointing stay at a hotel that claims to be luxury. The director eventually offered to comp our meal at Tiller (slightly more than $150), which I found to be unacceptable but accepted under duress because I didn’t want to spend my vacation fighting. Still, the right thing to do would have been to remove a night from our stay, given they tried unsuccessfuly to pass off an inferior product. They should be embarrassed. They claimed room 515 would be improved—so if you get it, inspect it thoroughly… or bring flip-flops for the shower and carpet.
The Cliff House is a one of a kind! Always a fantastic visit!
Absolutely a five star experience in our four days here. Every employee we interacted with was gracious and helpful. Stays are full of little touches like local chocolate with the turndown service and amazing blueberry coffee cake accompanying most of the breakfasts. The casual lobster shack restaurant even has locally made desserts and tasty smoked bbq. The landscaping is beautiful and we absolutely enjoyed the pools and lawn games as well as hikes and the complimentary trolley service to the town. Highly recommended.
Beautiful facilities - nice kids programs, excellent spa
Beautiful property with great service and dining options. Rooms were spacious with nautical decor. Pool was beautiful but get there early if you want a lounge with umbrella!
Wonderful!
There’s no denying it—Cliff House is breathtaking. You are quite literally perched on a cliff, with jaw-dropping views of the ocean from nearly every angle. The lobby alone feels like the set of the latest Netflix series about wealthy New Englanders—elevated, elegant, and wildly photogenic. We stayed in a gorgeous room with three bathrooms (yes, three!) and couldn’t get enough of the cozy plaid robes—so much so that we almost bought them for $165 each. The gym is fantastic, with a wide variety of equipment and ocean views, plus group classes. The kiddie pool with its infinity edge is stunning, and the hot tub is enormous. The adult pool (13+) felt a bit stuffy, and it was tough to snag chairs together, which was frustrating. Food-wise, Nubb’s lobster roll was one of the best we had in Maine—and major points for offering a gluten-free bun. A trolley runs into town a few times a day, and there are activities for kids on-site. Now, for the not-so-great: The service left a lot to be desired. We arrived at 1:30 p.m. hoping for early check-in (standard check-in is 4 p.m.) and were met with scoffs from the front desk staff. No warmth, no effort, no accommodations—not even help with bags or suggestions for what to do while we waited. On checkout day, housekeeping knocked at 9 a.m. and we had to ask to extend to 11 a.m.—again, met with resistance. Dining reservations are nearly impossible to get, even for breakfast. When we asked to be seated at 10 a.m. as a party of five, the staff acted like we’d asked to charter a yacht. Bottom line: The scenery is undeniably stunning, but the hospitality doesn’t match the price point. At nearly $2,500 per night, I could think of a dozen other places I’d rather stay—especially with kids in tow.
The oceanview was breathtaking, the morning sun was stunning
