Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort Curacao

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Our experience started off poorly the moment we arrived. When we checked in, we told the driver exactly which room we were assigned. He insisted we were wrong and dropped us off at a completely different location. We had to repeatedly tell him it was incorrect before he finally took us to the correct room. Unfortunately, things only got worse from there. The room looked nothing like the photos advertised online. The difference between what is shown and what you actually receive is shocking. The room appeared poorly maintained and honestly felt less welcoming than a jail cell. To make matters worse, there were roaches in the room that scattered every time we entered. The overall presentation and cleanliness were unacceptable, especially considering the price being charged. When we first arrived and noticed the bugs, we immediately went back to the front office to report the issue and ask for assistance. However, no one was there to address our concerns, so we were unable to speak with anyone that night. Because of this, we had no choice but to wait until the next morning to bring the issue to the front desk. That is the only reason we ended up being there for approximately 12 hours after checking in. The most disappointing part of the experience was the customer service the following morning. The receptionist was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional when we tried to explain the situation. Instead of listening or offering help, she responded with a condescending attitude and unnecessary remarks that only made the situation worse. We felt like we were being treated as a nuisance rather than paying guests with legitimate concerns. For what this place charges, you would expect basic courtesy, professionalism, and respect when raising an issue. That was not our experience at all. When we decided to leave, even though this was originally supposed to be a week long birthday stay, we were met with pushback and snide remarks when requesting documentation confirming our early departure. The room conditions were unacceptable and the customer service was even worse. Even after bringing these issues to their attention, the resort has not acknowledged how poorly we were treated. All we wanted was to leave and receive the proper paperwork confirming it, yet even that simple request was made unnecessarily difficult by the front desk staff. I am extremely disappointed that this is how our trip had to begin. I strongly encourage management to review this situation and contact us to resolve it properly. Between the condition of the room and the unprofessional behavior from the front desk staff, this experience was completely unacceptable.

The bungalow was advertised as having air conditioning. What they didn’t say was only the bedrooms had air conditioning. The living area and kitchen had no ac. With 90 deg temperatures, it was very uncomfortable.

There were some work/renovations being done early in the morning next to our bedroom. We could hear every noise outside and couldn't sleep as we wished.

They tout being green, but then there are wooden slats, no glass in the bathroom windows and front door allowing in the heat. The air conditioning just didn’t cool the room even when we kept the bathroom door shut. We were given two bath towels and two pool towels. When we requested additional towels for drying our hands, it was as if we were asking a lot. The restaurant and service was good but one afternoon we had to leave because there was such a bad sewer smell. I would not recommend this resort with three tv channels and two Dutch channels for early morning and bedtime viewing.

Nice place, park is very well maintained. Very nice rooms and holiday homes. Older rooms are a bit less but the new ones very nice. Loved the balcony with hammock. Close to beach and AH. Very nice pools too. Friendly staff. By the newer part there is another pool which is more quiet.

Loved having diving available on site. Staff were super accommodating.

Location - was pretty good, there is a restaurant inside the resort and a few restaurants and bar within five minutes walk. Supermarket 10 minute walk. Beach few minutes Walk. hiking Trail just behind the resort. The villa - we booked had two rooms each with its own bathroom which was very convenient. Small kitchen with sufficient utensil for cooking. small living area and a resting balcony to chill. Hotels swimming pool - There were a 1 meter deep swimming pool, a 1.5 meter deep swimming pool and a kiddy pool. You can arrange to book cars directly at reception. There is No Room service. overall good hotel considering price, location, amenities, we would come here again. Small thing - would be good if they provided coffee and tea.( only 4 coffee capsules were provided although we stayed for 8 nights, when asked at reception they said we would have to buy, which wasn’t expensive but would be nice touch to have as complimentary like other hotels)

The property is beautiful with nice pool and soaking pools. The air conditioning works very well in the room. (My significant other needs it colder than I like. We were able to get a blanket for me but they are in short supply. I recommend bringing your own if your travel companion likes/needs the room colder than you.) The kitchenette is very nice and comes with everything you need. Housekeeping comes every 3 days which was great. Towels weren't a problem we traded ours in daily when we passed reception. The pillows were old and need replacing. They were flat and hard. The shower is an eco shower and hot water is short lived. The shower soap is a body hair all in one soap. It works good as body wash; I used my own shampoo. The onsite restaurant is amazing. The hotel includes beach access to Jan Thiel Beach this does not include the chairs. The chairs vary from $5 USD plus depending on location and type. Amazing snorkeling right from the beach. The reef is right there and the layout of the bay means it is usually very calm. All the restaurants at Jan Thiel Beach were very good.

Great resort with cute and comfortable bungalows. The property is beautifully landscaped, has a nice restaurant, pools and walking distance to the beach. And the staff working there is super friendly and helpful.

Beautiful, clean, conveniently located resort. Kitchen is small but serviceable. We had the apartment, which has a separate area to sit and watch TV.

The quality of materials (furnishings, kitchen, etc), was not very nice. Very sparse rooms, air conditioning in only the bedroom. Kitchen was too basic, only 2 burner stove and small refrigerator. Bed only had a sheet, no blanket. The living room only had 2 sitting chairs, no couch. Too basic for us.

Very big property and a bit hard to navigate at first but great walking and helpful staff

If I could give this place half a star, I would. There’s nothing “resort” about it—it barely qualifies as a hotel. You’re essentially doing everything yourself. The resort has one restaurant with a repetitive menu. The food is okay, but portions are small and overpriced. Better options are a 10-minute walk away, but there’s no convenience store on-site. For essentials like water or toiletries, you’ll need to trek 15 minutes to a supermarket. The resort is extremely hilly, with steep climbs back to your room—especially exhausting after a day at the beach. Rooms lack basic amenities like shampoo and conditioner, offering only a generic “hair and body wash.” They also provide no washcloths or hand towels—just two plain towels. Coffee machines come with only two complimentary pods, and extras cost $8 each. The beach is a 10-minute walk, crowded, and restricted to a small section for guests. You also have to pay for beach chairs. The resort has three small pools and hot tubs, but the latter aren’t regularly cleaned—just refilled nightly. There’s no room service, and food from the restaurant has to be picked up and carried back up the hill. Breakfast options are basic unless you’re willing to pay extra for toppings like onions or peppers. Rooms are only cleaned every three days, with sheets left unchanged. Towels were refreshed just once during our stay, and we had to take out our own trash because staff didn’t respond to requests. The only positive? The staff are pleasant.

PROS Renting a vehicle at the resort is properly organised, vehicles are alright and the process is smooth. Bus tickets and beach towels are easy to obtain and/or change. CONS The exterior of the properties and the gardens at the resort are well maintained. The accommodations themselves are poorly maintained - furniture and/or facilities are either broken, worn out or missing. Housekeeping rushes into your accommodation even outside of the scheduled time for cleaning. Upon departure, they disturbingly knock on your door prior to the latest check-out time and annoyingly wait behind the door for you to hurry up and leave earlier.

It is a very lovely Resort.

The front desk was very helpful. We enjoyed the proximity to the trail to the salt flats, the beach and the supermarket.

The property is clean and the staff were friendly.

You could walk to many restaurants and shopping

Fica um pouco afastado do centro e das melhores praias, que são as do Norte. Mas, compensa pela tranquilidade e da brisa que bate na sacada do apartamento. Também gostei da piscina.

We enjoyed our stay at Chogogo. The furnishings were somewhat spartan but very clean. We loved the view from our balcony - the beautiful gardens and birds. The overall atmosphere of the grounds was relaxing and inviting.

Everything a disappointment! The vila was not what we had booked so we had to move after two days. No internet, no phone no tv for two days, poorly equipped kitchen. Terrible lighting in the bathrooms. Never again… The only positive is the restaurant

Paradise.....Next the Jan Tiel Bay beach and resort, Chogogo is everything you can dream for a luxury resort. Great bungalows, well equipped, spacious, high end furniture and great beds and pillows. Fantastic.

Amazing place! I had a great time, I see no troubles in the hotel but the public transportation is hard to find. The rest was amazing.

I had a fabulous tour of Curaçao.. The driver Rudy was amazing. He was so friendly and so knowledgeable. We saw so many beautiful beaches, bars, and restaurants during our tour.I would advise everyone to request him.. you won’t regret it.

We did not stay there but had a day pass a couple of days. Beautiful pools. service was mediocre at bar restaurant. Would not go again because of what I read about the resort and how the build out impacted the local reefs. Sad that they did things that way.

Definitely catered to Dutch culture, but still worth it

Disappointing for the price. Location was good and apartments look nicely painted. However the complex is much bigger than we were lead to believe and a lot of apartments on top of each other doesn’t make for a very private experience. Soundproofing is poor with a lot of noise from the regular slamming doors from other apartments around you (they need to fix these doors with some rubber door stops etc). The pool was not enjoyable as too many uncontrolled children, my wife and I were hit by flying balls and toys on a number of occasions. Poor behaviour by guests that staff need to do something about for the sake of respectful guests. Staff were very polite and friendly, but did not seem overly knowledgeable about services within the resort. The kitchenette was very limited, just a hot plate. No basics at all provided in the kitchen, no salt or pepper, cooking oil or even dishwashing liquid.

Hotellets 3 roms bungalower var et fantastisk godt tilbud til en ferierende familie. En liten skuffelse var det st Hotels.com annonserte kong size beds i alle rom. Det var det ikke. Ett rom med king size, ett rom med to enkle senger og ett rom med enkeltseng. Området hadde gode tilbud både hva gjelder aktiviteter og bespisning.

Habitaciones cómodas, bien equipadas, buena atención, volveré.

Stayed a week and toured from on end of the island to the other.

Wir hatten eine Superior Suit mit Meerblick. Das Zimmer war von der Göße ausreichend. Leider waren an 2-3 Tagen kleine Ameisen im Zimmer. (Wurden dann vom Personal stark reduziert.) Ein Nachteil ist dass an den Türen und Badfenstern kein Glas ist, sondenr nur "Holzjalousien" --> Nicht 100% abschließbar --> Ich wurde von Mücken geplagt. Sonst ist das Resort gut. Lage an Jan Thiel Es gibt kostenlose Bustikets in die Stadt.

The units are hot and a/c in the bedroom goes off as soon as tou go out of the bedroom. The bathroom is accros the hall from bathroom and super hot...you sweat while you shower!! TV only has 3 channels, 3 in German and 1 in Dutch. No free wifi in the bungalows.

O hotel é bom e bem localizado, porém um pouco distante da praia. Acho um absurdo ter que pagar para usar as cadeiras de praia !!!!!

Wir waren im März 2015 für 12 Nächte im Chogogo. Der Aufenthalt hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Das Personal ist durchweg freundlich und hilfsbereit, das Restaurant ist spitze.Die tropischen Pflanzen der Aussenanlagen sind atemberaubend. Das Zimmer verfügt über einen großen Kühlschrank und Kitchenette. Der Strand Jan Thiel ist ca. 3 Gehminuten entfernt, schönere Strände können einfach mit einem Mietwagen erreicht werden. Ein Mietwagen empfehlen wir für Curacao. Und hat der Aufenthalt gut gefallen, wir werden wieder ins Chogogo kommen!

El hotel es bastante bueno; las instalaciones muy amplias, muy bien cuidadas y el servicio de buena calidad; las habitaciones son amplias pero por el tamaño del complejo es indispensable contar con un auto de renta para poderse mover comodamente.

The gardners and waiters were really nice. The landscaping was nice. The other staff could not smile to save their lives. We arrived at night, and security could barely tell us how to get to our room, and it took several tries to find it. Then, there was no soap in it. Not in the bathrooms, the sinks, anywhere. Every towel we got was torn or frayed. No wash cloths at all. The pillows were tiny and only one each. It took five days out of our seven day stay to get more pillows. We could not buy soap on site, or any amenities. We had to go to the store down the street. The cottages are clustered together on a hillside. Down the hill is the beach, which is closed off with a fence covered in barbed wire. The beach has chairs side by side covering all the sand. You pay for your chair. Its a whole mentality of being separated from the rest of the island and the people who live on it. I have to say that there was just nothing gracious or welcoming about the resort. The other guests were nice, that much is true. But they too had come to vacation among the very same people they live with. Also, it is a desert island. Don't expect the tropics or big beautiful beaches. But that is Curacao, and not about the resort.

Chogogo is the oldest resort in Jan Thiel Beach. The 2 bedroom appartments are spacious and clean. The landscaping is beautiful, very lush. You will have a great time in Jan Thiel Beach, with shops, ocean, diving, restaurants all within walking distance. There's a busstop just infront of the resort that will take you into the city. Just don't expect too much comfort staying at Chogogo. Beds are terrible, waterpressure in the shower is minimal, as is the service at the frontdesk.
