The room, the staff, the location, the ambience. It is a special hotel and that is why we came back
The breakfast, The continental was lacking in choice. The lack of alternative to a full english, lack of side plates for croissants Just felt that everything had been cutbackloved The lack of an effective Wi-Fi.
Quite location
The ambience was lovely, furnishings, decoration, gardens, surroundings. location and peace and quiet. The dinner was fine dining and very enjoyable, also at a reasonable price.
I would have liked a king size bed.
Hotel was stunning. The rooms were big and comfortable.breakfast was really lovely. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Will definitely return,
Nothing
Beautiful building and grounds. Good sized rooms and en-suites which were all clean and tidy. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great parking, felt very secure. Good value for money.
The internal parts of the building could do with a revamp, some parts were looking a bit worn. Still pretty though. Unfortunately it was very hot during our visit (nothing the hotel could do about the weather) and they did provide a fan in the rooms for this. Bed was a little bit uncomfortable.
We booked the Chestnut Room for our wedding party on 3 August 2026. Unfortunately, our experience with the venue was extremely disappointing. We were given a price for the room when making the booking, but were later told that the room had been charged incorrectly and that we were expected to pay more. This was very frustrating, especially when planning such an important occasion and relying on the price we had originally been given. The service and communication we received were extremely poor. We expected much better professionalism and transparency when dealing with a wedding booking. Overall, this has been a very stressful and disappointing experience, and we would not recommend the venue based on how our booking was handled.
As usual yhe stay was wonderful. All the staff professional, friendly and very helpful. A big thank you to Alice for organising the library for friday evening. You are a star.

Stayed here for a last minute couple break on Thursday 13th August. The place is just stunning and the staff were so helpful rite from arrival. Extra special shout out to buzz and Andy the evening security staff. Our sleep pattern is a little crazy due to been up all hours with our disabled daughter so when we went down stairs around 2am for some fresh air the gentlemen were so friendly and accommodating, even made us both a lovely cup of tea and brought it out to the terrace. We will definitely return here and hopefully very soon x
A comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner were excellent.
Nothing.
I had a confirmed and prepaid booking at Nunsmere Hall, booked directly through the hotel. I had also completed the pre-check-in process. I arrived at approximately 12:30pm on the day of the stay and spoke to reception, explaining that I was attending a wedding elsewhere and that my partner would be arriving at around 6pm. My luggage was accepted and stored, and there was no indication that there was any problem with our reservation. When my partner arrived later that afternoon, she was told that our room could not be provided because the hotel was being used exclusively for a wedding. This was extremely frustrating. The booking had been confirmed and prepaid, and I had already attended the hotel several hours earlier. Had the issue been identified then, there would at least have been more time to resolve it. Instead, my partner was left to deal with the situation at short notice while trying to get to the wedding. Staff contacted other hotels and searched Booking.com, and she ultimately had to arrange alternative accommodation in an unfamiliar area following the hotel's recommendation. This caused considerable and completely avoidable stress. I subsequently made a formal complaint. To Nunsmere Hall's credit, they investigated and confirmed in writing that an error in their booking system had allowed our reservation to be made despite the exclusive-use wedding. They also acknowledged a lack of clear communication by a member of staff and apologised. The original booking was refunded in full, which I appreciate. However, the hotel declined to reimburse the additional £10 cost of the replacement accommodation, despite acknowledging that the booking-system error was theirs. They instead offered a complimentary future stay. For me, this was not really about the £10. It was about the fact that we had a confirmed reservation, the hotel failed to provide the room, and my partner was left to deal with the consequences of an error that was entirely outside our control. I appreciate that the hotel investigated the issue and apologised, but I don't feel the final resolution adequately reflected the experience or the unnecessary stress caused. If booking Nunsmere Hall during a wedding or exclusive-use event, I would strongly recommend confirming directly with the hotel that your individual reservation is definitely being honoured. I would not want anyone to experience the same stress my partner and I felt because of Nunsmere Hall's failure.
We enjoyed our stay at Nunsmere Hall..check in was easy..staff very pleasant and helpful..quite happy with our room..a view of the lake in the distance..lovely well kept grounds..but dosn't take long to walk round them..we did find a nice woodland walk a little further down the road... Beautiful evening meal..(jury's still out on the charge for service & water!) well cooked hot tasty breakfast..a relaxing stay..thank you...
The location , gardens , everything was perfect

Great hotel close to Oulton Park Race circuit. Super value.

Lovely for a one night stay Staff were great
Needs a refurb very dated now
A fantastic location with very friendly staff. Also a great bit of history!

Fantastic Team - Alex on reception was exceptional. Beautiful decor and extremely clean Good selection on menus and well sticked bar
We didnt pay for a premium room, it was a last minute decision. Rooms on the 3rd floor in the loft space do get extremely warm.
Location, staff, service, food and the hotel itself were fantastic. We had a very enjoyable stay.
Nothing
Booked three nights, room clean, but hotel says don't open windows, the room was really hot and uncomfortable. Unfortunately. Food good , especially the bar meal's. Drink good ,staff good, except when checking out trying to change for accommodation when I had already payed in full before going, eventually sorted, admin record on reception questionable. Overall if not for admin, good.
lovely room as always
if i could change one thing it's the background music. Not my taste and intrusively loud in the bar. I remember the same annoyance on my last visit. Music at breakfast is also not my preference.
Superb breakfast, Full English cooked breakfast offered, tea, toast all served. Buffet area for fruit cereal etc. Delicious pastries. Pleasant breakfast room overlooking garden.
Faultless
Family wedding Niece Emily and Toby Whittaker 16th July ...... Really enjoyed the wedding staff especially Charlotte in the bar was exceptional made everyone fell welcome and valued
We had our wedding at Nunsmere Hall and it was absolutely wonderful. The location was close to where we lived, which made it easy to get to. The grounds are beautiful, the day was organised flawlessly, and every member of staff was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful. Big shout out to Katie, Alex, Alice, Brooke, Charlotte, Tom and Molly, who helped with the build-up and on the actual day. Everything ran smoothly, and we felt completely looked after from beginning to end. Rooms were stunning, very spacious and clean. There were no issues with the noise, but being a wedding, it was hard to comment on. As a last-minute wedding, we found it great value for money. The night before the wedding we went to a local restaurant, and there were several pubs around the area. We honestly couldn't fault a thing and would highly recommend Nunsmere Hall as a wedding venue.
We had a wonderful stay of two nights, this was our 4th visit. We jave seen improvements on each of our visits. Our first stay was in the largest I've ever stayed in - defintely a case of 'faded glory'. At the time we noticed that some rooms were being decorated. To be honest at times the food was a bit hit and miss, our last visit the food at all meals was pretty good. The location is beautiful and very well maintained, I can see why they have two awards for both the hotel and as a venue for wedding. Well decorated, absolutely fantastic staff (shout out to Anne, at breakfast service) It is a beautiful Edwardian property, spotlessly clean, loads of original features to admore if your that way inclined.& You may have to wait for service at times in the bar & perhaps be served a slightly warm glass of wine(young staff) but a lovely bar. relaxing & pleasant to sit in. I haven't met any member of staff from reception, housekeeping, maintainence and groundsmen who wasn't pleasant , professional and very helpful.
Beautiful room which was extremely clean and comfortable. Customer service was very good but my cooked breakfast was slightly cold. I definitely will stay again.
Beautiful place
Drinks bit pricey
Beautiful house in lovely grounds. Large comfortable Room and bathroom.
Constant loud music playing in public areas which we could hear in our room. Poor vegetarian options. Thick black hair in the butter Tinned soup
A fantastic hotel with friendly staff. The food was outstanding.
Nothing
Staff attentive and efficient. Extensive grounds well-kept Delicious (but limited) breakfast. Bed comfortable and large bathroom.
Property in need of some refurbishment. No air-conditioning - just a small portable fan. Room was very hot. Floorboards very creaky/noisy in room.
Extremely helpful staff
room, bathroom, bed, staff, bar, grounds.
slightly overcooked breakfast meats.
We booked 3x rooms for a 2 nights stay for a funeral. we booked the suites, nicest rooms available apparently, these vary massively, ours was Ok - incredibly dated, but the shower cubical was tiny compared to the other 2 rooms, on the first morning (friday) we asked if we could change to one with a better bathroom (the rest of the rooms had double showers) only to be told they were fully booked - HOWEVER I pointed out at least 3 floors in my corridor must be vacant as the cleaners were in there, so could we not change now and anyone arriving can have our room .... the girl on receptions response was. ' oh they are all being closed off for painting' ....... absolute nonsense, you wouldn't be cleaning them if that was the case AND the following morning we saw a couple leaving from one of the rooms...... my parents also asked approx 20 mins after arriving if they could have a different room as there were 3 steep steps into their bathroom and he has a walking stick and is very fragile on his feet, especially in the middle of the night for toilet breaks (hes almost 80). again a firm NO. My issue here is the blatant lie from the receptionist, they clearly dont like to move guests around, im guessing due to housekeeping costs. But to be it's very unacceptable. also breakfast is hard work, 6 of us. and all had to come at different intervals, 1 hour apart, despite the first booking on Saturday morning being at 8.30 and not a single other table was occupied..... overall this hotel needs some serious work to make it more accommodating and professional - - hallways incredibly hot and no fans.... such as shame as it could be a great place.
Lovely room in a beautiful setting. Just wish it was air conditioned.
Too warm but that's not really the hotels fault in a heatwave
I recently stayed at Nunsmere Hall for one night with a friend and, overall, had a lovely stay with a few drawbacks worth mentioning. The hotel itself is a beautiful period property full of character and charm. It’s also very accessible, with ramps, a lift, and wide doorways and corridors, making it easy to navigate. The grounds are well maintained and perfect for a short stroll, although you can walk around them in about 10 minutes. If you want to explore further afield, you’ll need a car as there isn’t much within walking distance. We booked Sunday lunch during our stay, which was excellent. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly, attentive and provided great service throughout. The bar area was pleasant, but it’s worth knowing that it isn’t permanently staffed. Instead, you need to ring a bell on the bar to call a member of staff. At busier times there was quite a wait before someone arrived to serve us. That said, once we had our drinks, there is a lovely outdoor seating area where you can relax and enjoy drinks or food while taking in the peaceful surroundings. Our room was very spacious, tucked away in the rafters of the house with lovely views overlooking the lake. There is also a large on-site car park, with four electric vehicle charging points currently available and more being installed. We visited during the heatwave weekend, and this highlighted one of the hotel’s biggest downsides. There is no air conditioning, only a small desk fan in the room. We were also advised not to open the windows to prevent flies getting into the hotel, which made the room quite warm and uncomfortable overnight. Breakfast was included and was perfectly acceptable, although fairly basic. The choice was either a traditional full English or a vegan full English, with one of each breakfast item served on the plate. Another frustration was the lack of connectivity. We had virtually no mobile signal anywhere on the property (using both EE and Three), and the Wi-Fi was very unreliable. Even the Freeview television in our room frequently lost signal and displayed a “No Signal” message. Overall, Nunsmere Hall is a charming country house hotel with beautiful surroundings, spacious rooms, excellent food and welcoming staff. While the lack of air conditioning, unreliable Wi-Fi and the occasional wait at the bar were disappointing, we’d still recommend it for anyone looking for a peaceful countryside stay, especially if you appreciate historic buildings and don’t mind being a little off the beaten track.
Friends gave me a champagne tea for two for a special birthday and we chose Nunsmere. From the moment we arrived at this lovely quiet hotel we knew we had made the right choice. The staff were very professional and friendly (including the gardener!) and the afternoon tea was well put together and delicious. The gardens are lovely and we had a walk in the woods beside the lake and to the jetty before and after our tea. A delightful afternoon. Thank you!
The staff were super friendly, efficent and helpful Dinner was great, good price too.
Breakfast was ........

bath/shower NOT user friendly no safety features ie grab rails non slip finishes
Lovely setting
WiFi needs addressing
The location was perfect, amazing views of the lake, grounds were extremely well maintained. The hotel was picturesque, staff warm and welcoming. The amenities were great and the ground floor rooms were beautiful and the furnishings were lovely. We had a room on the first floor (Clematis) , view wasn’t so good but it didn’t matter. Bed was huge and extremely comfortable, quilt was a feather one which would have been lovely and cosy in the winter, not the best for summer though. The room was uncomfortably hot; sweltering in fact. There were restrictors on the windows so couldn’t be opened more than a crack - also notes asking guests to keep them shut because of flies / mosquitoes from nearby lake. We had a fan that had seen better days that didn’t do anything to offer any breeze. We pretty much roasted alive, even with the feather quilt removed and curtains permanently closed. The bathroom was nice, but really could do with an upgrade. The water from the mixer tap shower was scolding hot - that really needs to be addressed by the hotel because the slightest movement of the tap meant that the water went from tepid to boiling. Breakfast was excellent! We did have a lovely stay but would have given 5 stars if there was some form of air con and the shower wasn’t the temperature of hell.
Eggs not done as asked, had to leave them
Location
Absolutely beautiful place room was huge comfortable bed staff was very good
Breakfast was very over priced for what you got
Close to the golf course
Very slow breakfast service only 2 bottles of any wine on the list at dinner
Stunning location
This was my first time staying here. I had a wonderful stay in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The facilities and my room were clean, and the garden and parking area were well-maintained. The breakfast was delicious, and I would love to stay here again.
Non
Service and staff were excellent.
Old fashioned no air conditioning
A beautiful hotel in fabulous grounds. The staff are all lovely and the food fantastic.
Our room needed updating. It’s dark and the furniture is tatty. It was hot when we stayed and a fan is not enough to keep the room cool as the windows must be shut at night to keep out the mosquitoes from the ( lovely) lake.
Great friendly staff. Nice clean place.
Staff on reception were very welcoming. Junior suite is huge!
Shower lever when knocked accidentally with my arm have an unexpected blast of very hot water. Quite dangerous.
Location staff very good. Overall price for the room was fair. There was an event on in the grounds as so the evening stay was rather noisy.
Food and bar prices were rather steep.
Staff were wonderful and breakfast was lovely. The gardens and the hotel itself is beautiful
Very hot in rooms and was told to keep windows closed due to the lake attracted insects due to the warm weather . WiFi not good and tv had bad reception
Stayed for one night recently. Hotel is in a gorgeous location, surrounded by water. We were lucky enough to have a lake view room (could see lake in the distance). Check in was smooth and fast. We stayed in a lovely, large room. Room had a four poster bed that we're not fans of (obstructed TV view from bed). We arrived, checked in and had a couple of drinks. You have to ring a bell to get service at the bar. Drinks are overpriced but I think it's the same for most hotels. The hotel seemed very quiet which was nice for us as we just wanted to rest whilst we were there. We tried to have an afternoon nap (as I'm ill) however, the noise from people being shown around other rooms was too loud and woke us twice. Evening meal was very nice, T-Bone steak. Staff were all lovely and helpful. Sleeping was an issue for us at this hotel. We went to bed around 10pm and were woken again by guests in the room above walking around, the floorboards creaked so loudly it woke us at 11:30pm and we were unable to sleep with the noise of people constantly walking back and forwards for at least an hour. Then at 4.45am, we were woken again by noisy guests chatting outside in the hallway. I'm aware the hotel can't control guests and noise but it was disappointing that we slept very poorly. It was also about 26 degrees and the room was very hot. Hotel gave us a note asking us not to open any windows in the room due to flies etc, this was not welcome due to the heat. There was a fan in the room which didn't help much. Breakfast. We had high hopes as our evening meal was nice. Breakfast wasn't good. Continental choice was very limited and small. Cooked breakfast done to order wasn't great either. Such a shame but but due to lack of sleep and poor breakfast, we wouldn't stay here again.
Great Breakfast and Breakfast Room
No Complaints
Situation, quietness, friendly staff, nice room
Nothing
Lovely main areas to the hotel in a great location. The grounds were nicely laid out. Friendly staff. Nice cooked breakfast. Quiet location. Comfy bed.
Room had marks and stains to walls and carpets. Needed a refresh. The area of the hotel we stayed in was very warm & stuffy and because of the water around the hotel it was recommended not to have the windows open. There was a fan which we needed to have on constantly. Air conditioning is needed or a way to screen the windows while open. There were cracked floor tiles and cracked sink surround in the bathroom. WiFi was poor and the whole area really struggles with phone signal. The view from the window was predominantly of a flat roof with old cigarette butts on it - it really detracted from the enjoyment of the room given the lovely location. Overall our room felt tired and in need of TLC particularly for the price paid.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel and grounds were beautiful. Bed was super comfortable. Toiletries were really nice smelling.
Would have liked self service for breakfast. Ordering felt a bit long winded. Skirting boards needed a wipe down.
Had a one night stay and we were pleased with the hotel. Our room was huge with all the facilities we needed. The provision of one pack of 2 biscuits was stingy. Staff were friendly and helpful, however staffing levels seemed to be lacking. Having to wait at the bar until a member of staff attends was slightly annoying. Our evening meal was good with a well presented table and attentative staff. However my cheese board (£12) was abysmal. The smallest portion of cheese possible, 6 jacobs crackers and 6 grapes, probably cost less than £1 to create. I informed staff was told the chef would be informed, not what I expected. All in all a decent stay but could be improved.
Awesome
No problems
Absolutely fantastic day. We got married at Nunsmere Hall in May and it was the most magical day ever. It exceeded all expectations and we couldn’t have wished for more. Joel was incredible during the day, helping in anyway he could. Nothing was too much for anyone and the food tasted amazing. Hannah was also so helpful in planning our day. We couldn’t recommend Nunsmere more. The grounds are gorgeous for the wedding pictures. It was such a beautiful day. I wish we could do it all over again. Thank you all so much! Xx
Very nice big rooms (we had a suite) Friendly staff Lovely outdoor seating area Would make a great wedding venue
Creaking floorboards! Everytime someone in the room above us moved around in the night the noise from the creaking floorboards was so loud it woke us up many times throughout the night. We mentioned to reception next day and they said some rooms better than others. Annoyingly this only started happening at midnight (I guess when the room above returned to their room) otherwise we would have definitely asked for another room. It was such a shame as unfortunately this had put us off ever returning and we had enjoyed our stay so much upto this point.
Staff lovely
Poor wi fi
From the welcome at reception to the service and the food was exceptional. Staff made sure we had everything in a prompt manner and checked we had enough of everything including drinks without being intrusive. The selection of cakes and sandwiches were perfect and very Nice . Will we be back ..1000% and would absolutely recommend it One of the Nicest Experiences we have done 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Thank you for Taking good care of us.
Excellent !!! An absolute gem of a find !
Its location Size of the rooms
No hot water to the rain shower The state of the bathroom generally
Nunsmere Hall was everything we could have dreamed of and more for our wedding venue. From the moment we booked over two years in advance right through to the final details, the entire experience was exceptional. Hannah was fantastic throughout the planning process, always on hand to help and ensuring everything came together perfectly. On our wedding day, Joel and the rest of the staff at Nunsmere were absolutely outstanding. They made us and all of our guests feel like royalty, and thanks to their attention to detail and professionalism, the entire day and evening ran seamlessly. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, (even the ice buckets matched our lemon yellow colour scheme!) and a smooth transition was ensured into the marquee for our evening celebrations. Nothing was overlooked, and everything exceeded our expectations. Thank you to everyone at Nunsmere Hall for making our wedding day so incredibly special. We created memories that will last a lifetime, and we can’t wait to return and celebrate our anniversary with you in the future.
Lovely helpful staff. Gorgeous rooms
Nothing it’s perfect
Really Lovley place and the staff where super friendly
Beautiful surrounding Helpful staff Good breakfast
All good
The staff were very nice; however, the shortage of staff was evident to us.
The uncleared tables outside. The bacon on the breakfast was very hard and dry. The decor in the bedroom made it look a little bare,
I love this hotel with its beautiful surroundings and friendly staff
NA
Location is lovely, moat all around, beautiful gardens. Hotel is great, rooms spacious and comfortable. Food is very good, we ate in the bar, a good choice of dishes. We have eaten before in the restaurant, recommend this as well. The breakfast offerings were very good too with hot food cooked to order. The staff are a credit to Nunsmere, welcoming, friendly and helpful. A really lovely overnight stay!
Location staff friendly and still v efficient
Could have tables on the lawn so you can see the lake
Stayed the while week for work. Food, Service and location were all wonderful.
We stayed over a weekend and when you first arrived the hotel is beautiful from the outside, and when you enter it exceeds expectations. The hotel is very well decorated and clean throughout. The staff were so lovely and accomodating. We stayed in the Elm room and it was very spacious. The room had all the amenities, including a nespresso coffee machine! The bed was very comfy. The hotel even went out of their way to provide a complimentary celebration plate for our anniversary.
The only negative I had, was the parking at the hotel wasn't great. There were only a few spaces available and if there was a wedding taking place, I think guests would really struggled to park.
Wonderful, peaceful location, staff amazing, food tasty. We had afternoon tea and it was perfect. Room just amazing. A.wonderful chilled relaxing couple of days. See you soon
Nothing
Beautiful location and very pleasant staff.
The double bed was small. The view outside the room wasn’t the best. The breakfast pretty basic. The room was tired and maybe needs a revamp.
Everything lovely stay
Nothing
Great building
All of it Staff amazing, room brilliant, food beautiful
Nothing comes to mind
A beautiful hotel with brilliant staff. They are really helpful and are very professional. Rooms are beautiful and have great names rather than numbers.
My only negative with this hotel is, at the bar they put a service change on each drink. I do think that on food a service charge is acceptable. However, on pulling a pint and handing it to you at the bar I think this is a little cheeky and wrong.
10/10 for everyone of the staff and the facilities.
The room was a fabulous size, lovely and spacious. Decor was very nice but did maybe look a touch sparce. Asked for a room with bath & bath was HUGE!
There was no air conditioning in the room and notices advising not to open the windows due to location (trees/lakeside) so room was too warm in the night. room looked slightly 'worn', marks on the wall behind the bin, furniture with chips, but nothing too bad
Great size room and really relaxing beautiful surroundings
Everthing been before place food area
Location of hotel. Comfort of rooms and facilities. Staff were professional and very pleasant. We never used the restaurant but the Captains bar food was very nice.
Lack of information in rooms regarding amenities in the hotel and visiting surroundings. Extreme levels of noise from above room. We heard every footstep loudly creaking on floor which badly interrupted sleep. Shower in room not disabled friendly after asking for walk in shower and one more than the other had to be helped to get in and out.
Very nice hotel. Not modern, but full of character and nice garden area. Lovely to sit outside with a drink when the weather is suitable. Restaurant food was good too. Really enjoyed it stay.
Rooms large, clean, warm and beautiful Bar food delicious and fresh Breakfast plenty of choice for continental a d then a freah made hot breakfast..delicious! Whole ambiance just relaxing and chilled. Lovely to sit out in the gardens.
Leaving!!! Absolutely nothing.
Beautiful location . Interior Decor was beautiful, well presented throughout. Staff were very professional and welcoming . The food was great . The room was comfortable and clean.
We have just come back from a fantastic night at Nunsmere Hall. The room we had was the Gardenia suite which was stunning. All the staff were very friendly and professional.Special mention Amelie and Millie on the reception. We will definitely be returning hopefully staying two nights as one was not long enough.
What a wonderful hotel. We had been twice before but this was the first time with the electri wheelchair. Everything was tip top. The room we had was perfect for us and our friends room was gorgeous as well. Bar food lovely - we ate both nights there. Breakfast tasty and plentiful. ALL the staff were attentive and very welcoming. Charlotte one of the waiting staff was super friendly . Thank you all. We WILL be back
The service from the staff was exceptional at all points of contact: When making an enquiry about book-in procedure, at the bar, in the restaurant. The food in the restaurant, while at standard prices, was exceptional. The grounds are lovely, and the interior of the hotel plush and welcoming.
