Lane's Privateer Inn

The reception didn’t know what day it was! So there was no breakfast served because it wasn’t Saturday tomorrow. I told her tomorrow is Friday. Coffee cups in room were dirty. They still had tried coffee on the rim. The carpets on the stairs were dirty. We called down to reception on the phone in the room after settling into our room to ask about wifi but there was no answer. Terrible service & crappy room. Dirty hotel.

Will never recommend this place or stay there again. It was dirty, people at the front desk not very friendly (I can deal with that) but what was really strange is that I posted about this right after our stay and nothing showed. This place actually has a 4 star rating which it should not by any means. We actually cut our visit short because we got so grossed out. Bathroom was dirty, hardly could sit on the toilet because it was so close to the tub. Wallpaper peeling of the walls. Carpets in the hallway had dirt on it when we got there and nobody cleaned it up. The people working at the front desk were never there or sat around in their “office”. When we arrived no info was voluntarily given about the place. Our mistake was that we should have left right away but we were so tired. Only good thing was the nice ladies in the restaurant which I heard the food was pretty good. Talked to locals about it and they all said the place had a bad reputation and were surprised we were staying there. Next time definitely will not stay at the Privateers again!! I very seldom give bad reviews but I want to warn other travellers!

Carefully maintained rooms and premises in older building.

Convenient location

Old established hotel that has being neglected and needs a retrofit.

Overall I cant say the room was clean but could use more of through cleaning and tidiness. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We loved our stay. The staff were friendly. Food at the restaurant was delicious and live Music was great. Sunset across the water from the lawn. and Close to a beautiful walk around downtown.

Good experience. Very enjoyable

We were able to sit outside in the sun by the water. Beautiful.

The Inn is definitely showing its age Check in was “1st name , here’s your key and it’s on the 1st floor Walked in and smell perfume sprayed to cover up must The bed frame was on blocks and you still sloped lower towards the headboard The restaurant did have charm, I’d say the food was as excellent and priced well I am sad to say I wouldn’t be staying there again , however I’d eat there in a heartbeat

It was fine.

It looked quaint on website but was actually very old and run down, worst beds we encountered on three week Maritime Road trip. The guy when we checked in was not friendly and it was like we were bothering him when we checked in. Would never recommend this place to anyone

The room did not match the photo advertised. The room was depressing, hot and colourless.

A yestiyear inn upgraded with modern conveniences

I wouldn’t recommend a stay here. The first room I was offered had a 2 foot long spread of black mould on the bathroom wall and ceiling. The second room was in better condition, but the mattress was definitely older than me. I wish the duvet insert had a cover on it or at least a sheet on top of it, as many hotels now do. Only one lamp worked so the room was very dark. The place looks cute and historic in photos, but feels grimy and run down. There is a nice outdoor area that looks out onto the water. I spent a lot of time here avoiding my room.

Go to room 104 and have a look inside and outside the room. Very little maintenance done. Will not be back.

Nice spot.

Ideally located for the visit. Friendly staff, very have accommodating. Dining was enjoyable, very good meals and service, Building is old but well maintained. External noise (other rooms, walkways etc) was a bit of a distraction . Room was comfortable but did not have a coat rack. TV was difficult to operate (two controls).

Average place, nice location but very creaky and not a great night's sleep

Easy parking. Central to downtown. Lovely lawn overlooking the Bay. Nice restaurant. But don't stay in the side building, with only outside stairs to walk up with luggage. The rooms are NOTHING like those pictured. More like a 1 star hotel/motel. Run down, old spring mattress. Pillows too high. Very dark room. Mold in bathroom around the bath. But awesome water pressure. Broken toilet. Ask to stay in the main building, where I assume those pictures are from. Should have realized with the low price, you get what you pay for.

A pleasant spot to stay

The service was excellent. The food in the restaurant was fantastic.

Very nice place and reasonably priced. Old world charm for sure, great food in the restaurant, loved to sit by the water in the morning and drink my coffee, it has stairs so please be aware of that!! It had the coolest phone lol

I love the staff and they are so nice but the rooms aren't very clean and my pillow cases had hair all over them when I called them they did come and change them but behind night stands and tv stand and bed there is loads of dirt not sure who is doing the cleaning but they should have a talk to them.

It felt like we were at a motel. They also didn’t clean our room each day or provide new towels.

Well situated and good for discovering the area. Needs a bit of an upgrade, parts were looking tired. Doesn't live up to its history (we were in the annexe rooms, maybe the main rooms do). Brunch only available at the weekend.........doesn't say this on the website - please update this. Tiniest bath towels of our entire trip........ please get towels that actually cover. Restaurant was very good and the staff in there were great.

Office closed in the morning until 1100 am. Garbage left in room, and soap scum on the edge of the sink. Long black hair left on the tub

We liked location and surroundings of the hotel. It was nice to eat breakfast by the river.

The property is beautiful and the staff was lovely. Lots of hot water and great pressure. It's close to everything and has a beautiful park like water front view. I'd stay there again. I just wish that the bed was more comfortable.

The room was very dirty, I had to go out for wipes to clean all surfaces. The bed was o.k but still old. We frooze the first night until we asked for another blanket. Will never stay again.

Really cosy

What a great hotel! Historic property nicely made into spacious rooms. Beautiful landscaping and large yards. The walk along the river was mystical. The only negative is that I asked for our room to be made up (we stayed 2 nights) and it didn't get done, so we had to go to the front desk for towels and toilet paper. Make sure to visit Cosby's garden Centre. It's close and absolutely magical. Our two day stay in Liverpool was super. We will stay here again ❤️ and book this hotel again. Thanks for wonderful memories.

Office and restaurant completely closed in the morning. No one around to check out with, left with a unkept feeling.

Nice clean establishment! Lots of great food! Seafood chowder is to die for 👍

Price ok and clean

General report: The building is old, but well cared for. I like the ambience. Enjoyed sitting under the trees by the river in the breeze. Good service at dinner. Comfortable beds and I especially liked being able to open the windows. Bathroom is good condition. And the prices were very economical. Would go there again. Eleanor

Been a few yrs since I stayed there, love the quaint clean rooms and specially the grounds by the river.

Dated property. Worn plywood walkways leading to rooms. Hard bed. Liquid food stains on wall pictures.

It’s not a bad place and good location. Food in Restaurant is good. Beds are not comfortable and wifi is basically non-existent. Lots of hot water in shower. It’s 1960’s which is not all bad.

Area was nice but the hotel wasn't There was an A/C unit but it was unplugged with hand written a note saying that room temp control was for 'Heat only' * This was in end July The access to all the rooms was via a narrow porch running around 2 sides of the property The view was great, we had to shut the curtain if we didn't want to be on display for every others guest. The rooms smelt like humidity when we arrived so we had to open the window... They were guillotine type so anybody could have entered the room until we closed them again We arrived late, left early and do not plan on going back Also there is no breakfast on monday

Location was perfect with view of the water. Beds were comfy but sheets were dirty. Heat Pump contained mold. Restaurant was a nice experience.

Dining room was closed due to being a holiday .

We liked the location but were very unhappy that neither the Bar nor the Dining Room were open. The presence of those 2 items was the main reason I booked us there.

Check in was quick. Walking distance to restaurants (I wouldn't recommend The Golden Pond) Its an old building so certain things are inevitable like squeaky floors. Hope there was no one below us. The king room was large but weirdly laid out. Desk and fridge/microwave at the end of the bed where the TV normally would be. TV was on the side wall making for a sore neck watching from the bed....The sofa was all the way on the other side of the room, nowhere besr the TV. Bathroom was kind of outdated, dead fly on the floor, used washcloth hanging over the shower curtain rod. The handle for turning water on and off in the shower was quite loose but the pressure was fine. It was the cheapest place but not sure if we'd stay there again.

Disappointed that restaurant wasn’t open when we arrived or open for breakfast. Though we found that of other establishments in the area.

Our rooms we booked had been given away and we had to squeeze into other size rooms.

The property needs a serious upgrade. TV service did not work at all. Internet was available 20% of the time. Just little details were missed. Room had ac, it worked. Shower was great .

Property was beautiful. If you are looking to sit outside to read a book and socialize it’s a wonderful spot. Kind of like taking a step back in time. Room was okay. AC was rather noisy, toilet would continue to run if you didn’t reset handle. Cell service in area is weak and internet wasn’t great. TV had to buffer so much it wasn’t usable.

Delicious pub/restaurant on site. Great spot to sit outside by the water and relax.

Pros were clean room, very comfy bed, shower had awesome water pressure, quick and easy check in, ample parking, and heat pump in room. Cons were outdated building but that’s part of the charm really, no hairdryer in room, and lots of steps to 2nd floor. Would recommend though as the price was reasonable!

Noisy as the walls are thin and you may be awakened by your neighbor showering at midnight. Ok for 1 night if you cant find better

Great food at the restaurant and beautiful property. Great price

Very happy

We were only there for a quick 1 night stay. We got there in the dark and left early the next day. It was sufficient for that. The owner of the house was very nice and friendly but we really only saw him quickly when we checked in.

Thought it would be more quaint instead of trying to be 90s.

Very historic

Terrible food. Should not beable to serve such food. Disappointing for a restaurant in East Coast. Music was good though.

Peaceful, very clean, nice couch and chairs to sit on

The location was stunning. The room was simple but comfortable, clean, & cozy. There was a good restaurant, a cafe, & a bookshop in the building. A stroll over the iron bridge led to the charming town of Liverpool’s shops & cafes. The hotel’s lawn was overlooking the water was a great place to sit and have coffee or take-out from the Inn’s cafe.

Availability of the staff was difficult, on arrival we waited quite long before someone came, at first we were okay with that, people are busy with other hotel tasks. A little later I went down with a question and could hear the staff behind reception, I rang the desk bell (which was lounge) waited and still no one then I called out Hello and nothing. The next morning it says office opens at 10 at 10:45 door closed and no one around, there was actually a backup of two people waiting to check in and asked where the office was and we to.d them that is it.

Love that it's right by yhe water and we could see the seals feeding in yhe morning!

Good place was nice and friendly

This is a Historic property in a great location. Walkable to downtown. It could use some improvements to the exterior decking walkways and the Bathrooms need better cleaning as there was Mold on the Shower Curtain.

The room was spacious and beautiful.. there was an old coffee pod in the machine and no way to stir the coffee. The service was amazing!! Definitely recommend to stay here!

Old building. Lots of stairs. Our room did not have a main or bedside light. Only lamp was in far corner. Tv not working. Room was clean

Nice and nostalgic

Rustic charm but very clean and staff are friendly. Thin walls but for the most part hotel guests are mindful of the noise.

Lovely place . Clean rooms

Just a reasonably priced gem

We absolutely loved this place

Very accommodating of pets!

Manager and staff helped us as we were new to this place

It was shelter for the night.

Love that its by the lake and beside a cafe, restaurant and pub

This property is a very old property and has tons of character. The old pub and restaurant is very nice. The lawn between the hotel and the water has places to sit and watch the sunset. Rooms are updated and clean.

The property was clean and well maintained.

The room said king bed , but it was two double beds put together . The door did not close well so it made a horrible nose . The food at the restaurant was this place only saving grace .

A very comfortable and convenient stopover for us. Excellent room and a welcoming reception. Waitress in restaurant was abrupt and tried to rush us when ordering meal. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay. No breakfast available.

Room could have been a bit cleaner old and musty smell but other than that all good for price

Pretty decent for such an old hotel. The restaurant is nice enough, but limited seafood offerings in the off season. If it weren't raining I would go sit in the chairs set by the Mersey river

The host are nice people but the service and hôtel are horrible. Very very noisy and not well isolated. There were a number of persons partying Day and night, smoking and drinking on the balcony of rooms 127 & 128. It was a bad décision on my part to have stayed there in the first place after reviewing all the negative notices later.

.

Like - vintage/rustic Not like - stairs (steep)

Lovely, friendly greeting by staff and location was convenient, picturesque and walkable to walking trails, cafes and shopping. Graçias!

Good

Our bed was a double instead of the queen we booked. It could have been cleaner. Repairs needed. Also only 3 pillows for 2 and they were horrible. We do like the place a lot however dont arrive with high expectations.

We arrived late, just a one night pleasure visit to do something out of the house without spending a fortune or traveling too far. The team were very great to let us check in late, there were no towels in the room, and they delivered them to us very quickly. They were also kind to sell us two bottles of wine as the NSLC was closed (small town problems) However, the floors were not swept, there was pretzels all over the floor, there was a years worth of dust behind the TV and there was only one coffee mug for coffee in the morning. The mattress kept slipping off the bed, we had to stick pillows between the mattress and the wall to stop from falling into the bed. Nevertheless, I am not writing this in anger, I just hope the hotelier sees and fixes these small details, as sometimes the details can be easily missed. I am in the same business, so I would like to know. I will stay again I'm sure in the future.

Lovely location, very friendly staff and a restaurant with excellent food !

I always liked this location. Our room could have used some TLC but otherwise a cozy stay!

The are is nice but the room is small and the beds are only double, the noise between walls are thin and the other guests are noisy in the wall ways. There is no breakfast and their receptions are not open 247, no one is there until 10am. It is more of a hostel than an inn, or motel.

Needs updating but fair price

Property well kept, rooms were clean and comfortable.

The room was clean but the description online said 2 double beds and they were 3/4 size. Makes a difference. The beds were very uncomfortable. Restaurant on property was good. I would stay again in a pinch but would not recommend.

Good

Old but good in Schuss

The owners and staff are wonderful. The in. Has a definite old time charm

Price was very good. Basic service was also very good. Restaurant was closed in the AM - 😖. The numerous stairs not good for seniors.

Great

Great dining room and food was excellent
