Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Car parking was sufficient, it was located in the north of the new forest which was only 10 min from Lyndhurst. It was very peaceful and quiet outside.
Appearance of the hotel on the website showed it was well appointed and highly maintained. In actuality, it’s pretty run down, old fashioned and tired. The car park had rubbish in it, the exterior doors and windows were tatty and peeling. The room had dirty carpets, an extremely old bathroom suite and shower was very small. The plumbing was odd, our room used a loud pump to run water into the bathroom. We could clearly here the room above having a bath and when the water was released, ran down pipes behind our bed headboard. Fawlty Tours in all but name. We had two interactions with staff who were polite and helpful.
Top opgelost mevrouw, waarvoor dank !
Location. Friendly staff. Quirky hotel. Only booked room only but the restaurant looked busy. Also liked the seating outside during the warm late afternoon weather.
Dog barking for a little while in next room ☹️ If people take dogs they should stay with them at all times.
Beautiful surroundings and Staff were very helpful
Room was excellent friendly staff
Cooked breakfast was a little bit over cooked
Excellent restaurant
Nothing
It’s beautiful, clean and customer friendly
The location was superb with lovely grounds at the back. Nice seating areas to relax with morning coffee. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were clean and equipped with a lovely large shower area.
We has a room facing the car park. It was a little noisy in the mornings with cars leaving and dogs barking, the gravel driveway way probably increased this noise. There was also a fan or extractor which we could here as well in the morning. This might be the extractor fan from the kitchen possibly. Overall tho, happy with the hotel.
Lovely tranquil position with grounds that opened up directly onto the New Forest . Very pleasant staff. Beautiful bed linen!
For an old property I would have expected thicker walls but I could hear my neighbours a lot. Bed was very creaky. I was disappointed with the length if time it took to receive my evening meal. The first night was only prawns but I waited 40 mins. The second night I had lamb rump which was overcooked and I had to wait an hour for it. I was told it was because they had a new chef but the first night there wasn't and it still took a long time.
Location is OK
Food was awful. The breakfast was the worst we've had. Then there was the noise. A family suite above our room - very noisy - every step, jump, and ball bounce could be heard well into the early hours - so not much sleep. Least refreshing break ever.
Nice decor dining room
Nothing!
Room was dilapidated, the bathroom unfinished, carpets worn and dirty. The corridor had no carpeting - just loose boarding. Dinner was a disaster - trout was hard and inedible, fish in ‘fish & chips’ were tainted and peas were still partly frozen, burger was dry and overcooked and the pigeon breast was burnt as were the supposed mixed vegetables. The unfinished car park had the owner’s Ferrari, Rolls-Royce and Defender there so it’s obvious they are looking after themselves but not the hotel and certainly not the guests.
Love the location
Needs a bit of money spent on it
Quiet location Excellent and friendly staff
Shower not so good
Location
My room was not clean. I found what I hoped was facial hair all over the sink and glass self above it, the toilet and toilet brush wasn’t clean. The bed side table wasn’t clean. Food is overpriced; I had a flat iron steak for £31.50, it wasn’t served as I would expect and it wasn’t tender.
Tranquil location
The dinner and breakfast options were great and full of flavour. The overall feel was cosy and had friendly guests.
Dinner was great when it arrived but had a 45/50min wait and after a 20mins wait was told my dish had sold out. I gave the team a pass there was a function on and was told there could be delays. The staff were smily and helpful.
Lovely location, ideal for my trip to the Utilita Bowl and visiting the New Forest. The room was very spacious and excellent value. The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast was very good.
The fan in the bathroom was a bit noisy.
Lovely property beautiful setting
Classic design lovely garden picturesque restaurant
The location was perfect, I finally read the book I got for Christmas while sat in the garden. The staff were lovely and the other residents were friendly, I didn’t take my dog but I will return in the future and bring her with me, there is direct access to the forest from the garden.
My daughter wasn’t happy that there was no handwash or bar of soap, that didn’t bother me as I just used shower gel, it’s still soap at the end of the day.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location.
Evening meal was mediocre. Had to wait an hour and then food was overcooked. Even the oven chips. Also, no remote for the TV.
The location is beautiful, very welcoming staff, lovely gardens and the room was well fitted out.
Breakfast could have been better a bit overcooked, personally would go into Lyndhurst for breakfast. Windows didn't stay open in the room, sashes need replacing,
The bed was comfy and the room was a good size. Staff were lovely
There was a water pump in the wardrobe that was very loud every time the taps were used or the toilet was flushed. The bathroom wasn’t particularly clean, there was a collection of dust/dirt in the corner. The whole bathroom was in desperate need of an upgrade. One wall in the bedroom had what looked like damp on it but on closer inspection we think it might have been really badly painted. We ordered food in the restaurant and were told we couldn’t have the pepperoni pizza as there was not enough pepperoni, the alternative pizza had toppings that we couldn’t identify so didn’t eat.
Setting, lovely grounds in the middle of forest, close to places of interest.
The beds too soft, windows need cleaning, and generally Hotel needs to be better maintained
Loved the location. The staff were lovely as always. We have been before. The food was delicious.
We found our bed uncomfortable. It was a little too hard for our liking. Apart from that everything was brilliant.
Liked the location and family room was beautiful
Food could of been better for the price and only during this weather no air con made it a bit uncomfortable
All the staff were polite, helpful and efficient
Some areas needed tidying up or painting. Maintenance a bit low standard
We only stayed one night, it was a lovely location with the forest behind the hotel
The bed was very hard and I didn't sleep well. It was a budget room to be honest but still expect a good sleep, bed could do with a good topper.
Location is the winning feature Great back garden from which you can go on lovely walks Nice and comfy room
Toiletries were in minimal supply. One tiny miniature shower gel and shampoo for two people two nights …
The location was fabulous, Tilly & Gina were very welcoming, helpful and lovely.
There is no air conditioning, the hotel could do with a complete facelift, especially the windows, shower in Room 14, needs replacing as there is only a trickle of water that comes out of it, and you cannot adjust it. Going into the garden, the step down is high and could do with an additional step, some guest were struggling to get in and out.
Location, cleanliness & friendliness of staff
Food was disappointing
enjoyed the meal and bar facility
Hotel was set in a lovely location, however the standards of the room was terrible!
Room was like a sauna! I appreciate it was a hot day however how hard would it have been to open a few window to ventilate the room? A few day prior to our arrival I had email hotel equiring about a fridge in the room which I was glad to hear however it really does help to have it switched on to be able to chill drinks and small amount of food. Not having to switch it on ourselves to hope and pray that it will be cold enough to keep stuff chill. Which it hadn't. As for the bodge job of boarding out was just the beginning of the horrors inside!! From a mouldy crack tiled shower which the door we wouldn't close. the floorboard under the carpet flapping round like it's held by the carpet! Dare not to step on it fully. Paint work scratch throughout the room tons of dust behind the bed. I wouldn't normally check but had to plug in phone charger, socket loose behind the TV. The only saving grace with the room that the towels and linen was clean. Would have spoken to a staff member but being with three tired young boys I needed to get them to bed. When I spoke to the lady on reception in the morning she did no more then say sorry and that she will let the manger know. Not writing down a single point of what we complained about and belive me the list was long!
Beautiful location
A little tired- some bathroom fittings needed attention
The location in the New Forest
Upon check in, we didn't even get a smile or a welcome, were just asked if we were checking in...that set the tone for the entire stay. The employees could not have cared less that we were paying guests. This is an old property set in a nice location, but needs some cleaning!! There was dust and cobwebs everywhere and the tables in the back garden were not even cleared each evening as guests finished their drinks. Each morning I came down to sit in the garden with my coffee, and was surrounded by drinkware and dishes from the previous night. The food we had was mediocre at best!
Fabulous location and grounds. Very peaceful.
Unfortunate to be the hottest night on record and no A/C, but a fan was provided. As long as you’re not there for a once a century weather event, it was great.
Friendly helpful staff
.
Location
The food was superb & the staff were friendly & extremelyhelpful.
More clothes storage & matching hangers.
The property was beautiful and set in lovely grounds. The breakfast was also so nice with lots of choices. We also loved our room and were very comfortable.
Decent Breakfast
Room didnt have hot water showers
Lovely old hotel with huge grounds and direct access to the forest. The food we had for breakfasts and evening meals was all very good. Room was spacious with nice views of the grounds. Good shower and bath. Quiet location away from main roads etc. Very dog friendly and the grounds and forest access were great.
The room was like a sauna, even with a good fan, fully open sash windows and shutters. Avoid during hot weather. Waited an hour for cooked breakfast one morning, fortunately we weren't in a rush but even so. The continental cold breakfast version was very limited, given the hot weather there should have been a better selection.
Location, quiet & peaceful.
Restaurant set up for 'fine dining', but menu very much like pub style food, and quality not that good. Limited continental choice for breakfast, and the only bread was supermarket square loaves, despite menu saying fresh homemade breads, no pastries.
The family deluxe room was excellent, it is so spacious and very comfortable. It was like having an apartment to ourselves and the kids loved it.
The breakfast was really poor in quality and didnt get much food for your money.
We loved the gardens, the bed was very comfortable. A couple of the staff were not very smiley when we arrived and they couldn’t find our room key so had to wait while they looked for it.
The bathroom and the dining room was very hot and stuffy. The menu could do with having a bit more choice.
Lovely location, newly renovated room, great size, comfy bed, nice linens.
Wonderful position
The only thing was the shower. To start with it was a long wait for the hot water, but that was rectified. The position of the shower head was difficult to manage as it couldn't be moved
The location is beautiful. Placed within a woodland area of the New Forest.
There was nothing to dislike
The location of the Woodlands Lodge Hotel was superb. The staff were absolutely fantastic and so friendly. There are some great paintings dotted about the property that make you giggle.
The property is slightly shabby and could do with updating, if it wasn’t for the staff and location I’d have been very disappointed.
The atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable, the bar and restaurant were good. Staff were helpful when my mother in law had a fall.
The floor in room 6 was very hot and room 7 was cold. The lights in the hall did not stay on long enough and my mother in law lost her balance and fell.
Breakfast was cook to perfection and location was excellent if we had better weather we would have walk through the garden to the gate to the New Forest. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Am a bit unsteady on my feet sometimes and would have loved to have a grab rail in the shower.
The ladies were lovely and very friendly and helpful, and the cooked breakfast was nice. Could do with a few more additions to accompany the cereals like rasberry’s and other fresh berries. Very sparce choices if you didn’t enjoy a cooked breakfast. Bed was comfy too.
A very tired hotel, and had dirty carpets and dirty windows almost as if they have never been cleaned. They had paper covering a boiler of some sort. Room was disappointing for a deluxe room, not sure if it has ever been cleaned thoroughly either as found a piece of someone’s clothing left behind the bed. Expensive for the state of the hotel, would not be returning.
It was absolutely beautiful, everything was amazing about it . Would definitely go again
Nothing , there’s nothing to not like .
Breakfast was well presented and good quality ingredients. Unfortunately I found a long piece of plastic in my Eggs Royale though..
Sound proofing. Could hear noises clearly from room above no 14 particularly noisy shower
Found dog hairs on my cloths laid over a chair. No WiFi in room
God frokost, eksellent beliggenhet.
A lovely place to stay in the New Forest. The staff were very accommodating with storing our bikes.
The meal wasn’t great value for money but the staff were wonderful so we’re not complaining.
We really liked the location. It was quiet and within walking distance of walking trails through the New Forest. We drove easily to Lymington, Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Ashurst. There were lots of options for good food in the local area. Staff were easygoing and friendly.
They were in the process of renovating the property which we were not informed of. This involved drilling. Fortunately we were up and out most of the time, but our corridor had bare boards. We visited during the May heatwave and were given a fan on request. Breakfast was reasonably priced but there were no croissants, but cereal or toast, yogurt and fresh fruit. We didn’t have the cooked breakfast.
We liked the garden, the dinner and also the board games offered by the hotel. Staff was very nice.
Portable bed was not great.
Lovely location
It was tired, old and dirty. The rooms were desperately in need of an update. Bedding linen poor, bathrooms barely functional and carpets dirty.
Room was small but very clean. Very Good Breakfast cooked to order. Friendly staff
No hot water and building works whilst staying. No compensation was offered because we booked through Booking.com. Not sure why this is. Sounds like a convenient excuse
The location is perfect for a quiet getaway
It’s starting to look a bit tired & needs work
Beds were comfy
No hot water in the room Workmen in the room when we arrived and left a mess Dirty tea spoons in the room Filthy toilet
Food at dinner was exceptional. Very good meal. Waitress on duty was lovely…she was also doing all the other jobs…bar, reception.
On arrival we were told they had had a few plumbing issues. No hot water the following morning!!
Location
Nice room and hotel, comfortable
Room was cold and we couldn’t warm it up, thankfully there was another blanket in the wardrobe
Location Bath
Bedside lamp didn't work (not reported at the time) Reported --- loose toilet seat (hard to sit comfortably), loose sink tap (had to hold to use) broken electric fused spur unit in the wardrobe which was a H&S issue. All three were reported, the Receptionist did not note them down, she promised action that same day but no action taken, reported again next day and the other Receptionist could find no record of the original report.
Nice location, clean and spacious room
Bed wasn’t very comfortable. Tobacco left out on reception desk
Location, staff were nice, breakfast was good
Terrible water pressure in the bathroom. Bed was comfortable though small for a large double bed. It was also very bouncy so every time anyone turned over it was a bit of an interruption to sleep
Lovely property, spacious rooms, friendly staff
The hotel building itself has a lot of history, yet it is very well maintained. The cafeteria is bright and cosy, and the garden is spacious and beautiful. The car park is large and convenient. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. Good and large breakfast
The room was cold at night (in early May), and although we tried to turn on the heater, it did not work. Also, the chess pieces in the garden were not sufficient to play a proper game. Other than these points, there were no particular issues.
The room and staff were excellent. The gardens are really nice but seating is shaded in the evening by the large trees
The food in the restaurant wasn't the best and let down what is an otherwise excellent hotel.
Lovely room, clean and well appointed, comfy bed. Peaceful . Access to forest from hotel.
Dinner was disappointing, my husbands medium rare steak came medium well. Sauce not freshly made. They did offer to change, however by that time we had waited a while, and mine was served and we wanted to eat together. Staff courteous and helpful. Decided not to have breakfast in house
Locatie, tuin, eten.
Great location, fantastic breakfast, great restaurant with great staff
Staff are lovely rooms are very nice and the most comfortable bed i have slept in for a very long time
all good
Clean and friendly
The food was dreadful
The location is perfect, out of the hotel grounds and straight into the forest. The hotel is clean and the room comfortable. My dog was made to feel very welcome by the staff and they were friendly and helpful.
i LOVED THE WHOLE FEEL OF THE HOTEL. MY LITTLE DOG WAS MADE TO FEEL WELCOME AND WE THOUGHLY ENJOYED OUR SHORT STAY
Beautiful room and surroundings. Friendly helpful staff.
That i didn't stay longer.
Lovely period property staff very nice and the location was spot on

The receptionist was very polite and helpful and evening meal was reasonably priced and tasty. Nice garden (shame about poo bags and furniture)
Bed sheets covered in cat ? hair, tea stains splattered over bedside table, stained mugs in room and fluff around pipes in the bathroom. Was upgraded only to find more hairs in the new bed and hairs on bathroom floor!! A lovely garden but the dog poo bin in garden was overflowing which was so unpleasant. Nice balcony but artificial grass on floor! Garden nice but had mis-matched tables and chairs left untidily around. Just looked so unkempt. Such a shame as many things were clearly overlooked and this hotel could be perfect. Left me really disappointed. I did not have breakfast.
The location is excellent, you can walk straight onto the forest. We had a baby and dog with us so the small fridge was a bonus
A coffee machine would be good. Great parking. The place could do with a bit of a deep clean but not to spoil the quaintness. The bed was very comfy and lovely big white towels. We enjoyed our stay and would come back
The surrounding area was lovely and the staff we met were very polite.
The shower.. took about 10 minutes for hot water to come out and the glass door was very mouldy at the bottom. (Room 6) The bed was very creaky, every time you rolled over would make a lot of noise. Could do with more milks being in the room.
Lovely location. Nice big family room with adjoining door in the middle. Staff seemed very lovely and polite. Great views and walk behind the hotel with horses roaming. Small park for the kids
The description said 1 double bed and 2 sofa beds. However we got only got one sofa bed. Luckily it was only for one night stay.
The room was comfortable and amenities were provided - tea and coffee, heater for when it got cold at night, etc. The hotel is in a good location (we biked from the station) and the gardens and outdoor seating areas are very pretty. Staff were friendly and helpful.
