Hotel Castillo Bonavia

We've stayed here many times, at least once a year, sometimes as many as 3 times. Our first stay was in 2005 when it was first open. For us it is a perfect one-night stop when travelling to our apartment between Valencia and Alicante. Everything one could want from an hotel

They need to work on how to treat the guests starting from the front service. Besides that, everything else was okay.

Fantastic hotel when driving through Spain, it's a lovely place to break up the journey the grounds are stunning, there is a swimming pool available for guests you can hire towels for 5 eurossave you worrying about drying, we were given a choice of 2 rooms on arrival we chose the 4 poster bed,which was lovely then we found a suprise behind the door a balcony, evening meal and breakfast were included in the price, food is very good I would recommend this hotel it's the 3rd time we have stayed here

Check in staff really helpful loved the hotel , restaurant meal was included in price never told us it was limited untill after we had eaten caused a bit of confusion had to pay extra apart from that all good

Cenamos en el restaurante del hotel y la comida estaba estupenda. El personal del restaurante muy amable y atento. El hotel es muy bonito, con toda la decoración medieval. Por poner alguna cosa a mejorar, decir que las cortinas y los oscurecedores estaban puestos en la misma barra, por lo que no podían cerrar bien y por la mañana entraba la claridad en cuanto amaneció, pero por lo demás, todo estupendo. Repetiría sin dudarlo.

Always an absolute pleasure to stay in this wonderful hotel. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The rooms (especially the suites!) are so comfortable and charming. The attention to detail is amazing. We enjoyed a delicious meal with great wines. Love the secure parking too.

Fun place to be especially with kids. We booked a room and indicated we have a child. We got a room with a regular bed and a bunk bed. My son loved it and was excited that he got to sleep in a bunk bed. He also loved the fact that he got to sleep in a castle. The venue is also beautiful for parties and weddings. It can get a bit loud if they have a wedding going on if you are sensitive to noise. We didn’t mind and it added to the fun. Breakfast was a basic buffet with some hot items and continental breakfast. There is plenty of free parking onsite. There are 3 EV charging stations. The hotel charges a flat fee (currently €20) for usage per charge. Location is off the main highway. It’s about 30 min from the Zaragoza city center. There is not much within walking distance nearby Overall it’s a great family hotel

Great stop over hotel.

Beatiful place

Have visited this lovely hotel many times and always so impressed. From easy safe parking (no height restrictions which is often a problem for us) to warm welcome, lovely rooms, great dinner and good night’s sleep. Good variety of hot and cold food for breakfast buffet.

Love the castle. Everyone is so warm and friendly. The suites are gorgeous. The food is delicious and the bar very welcoming!

Public areas of hotel a bit shabby and room was somewhat spartan but not bad for the money - excellent food in the attached restaurant

Room was comfortable and had adequate toiletries etc but looked a bit tired and the bathroom sink was cracked. Nice bar area and good breakfast in dining room. Plenty of free parking.

Even though it is a replica castle was fun to stay in. Staff excellent very clean and free parking Room was old but clean and comfortable. A bit noisy can hear the people next door and also going down the corridor We were on half board and the food was first rate and changed each night

Easy to find, the hotel has a large carpark and conveniently located next to a major trunk route. Checking in at the Reception was easy.

A break in journey between Bilbao & Javea, also our 51st anniversary. I told the hotel of this and there was a bottle of good cava chilling in our room and red ‘flower petals’ scattered on the floor. I had expected a charge but there wasn’t. Three weddings were being celebrated that day so lots of excitement but zero inconvenience or disturbance. I was a little concerned that the Castillo effect might be a bit tacky but it is a tremendous atmosphere, with grandeur and attention to detail. Dinner was great, staff lovely, especially Elizabeth in the dining hall What more can I say other than I look forward to my next visit !

Another brilliant trip to this great hotel. So friendly and welcoming. Suits are beautifully decorated with large bathrooms. Lovely to relax in the jacuzzi bath before heading down for a delicious dinner and lots of laughter with the amazing staff.

Wonderful welcome from a charming and friendly receptionist. We had a relaxing drink at the bar. The dinner was delicious. The restaurant staff (George, 2 x Elly and Miguel made us so welcome and were very attentive and kind.

Love this quirky castle. Seriously worth upgrading to the suite, 4 poster bed, fabulous furnishings, large jacuzzi bath and many other extras. The half board rate is amazing value. Friendly welcoming staff. Plenty of easy safe parking. On the route for driving from Spain to France.

This hotel is magical. The ambience, the decor, the food - all excellent - but my word was the faux four poster bed mattress hard. The poor sleep we had ruined the whole stay and, sadly, we would not return. Please, please, review your mattresses and bring them to the quality of the rest of your quite stunning hotel.

Brilliant for a quirky, fun stay. People are lovely and welcoming, our room was really comfortable with great facilities and the food in the restaurant excellent. Slightly wary of the proximity to the road but able to forget it was there.

Great value hotel near to motorway network.

First impressions very good from pleasant Reception and a lovely clean room overlooking the gardens . The menu del dia was excellent but then we were unable to sleep because of a celebration taking place in the Gardens playing very loud music . By 1.30 am we’re we’re totally fed up. . I rang Reception to be told the music was scheduled until 4am - not funny when we were faced with a long drive ahead of us . However Reception came up and gave us another room at 2am . The breakfast was ok next day but we were too tired to enjoy it . Im not against anyone having a good time but feel the Hotel should have informed us or put us in a quiet room to start off with

Poor location a snap inaccurate

Very good location for stopping off after a long drive - very clean and food was nice. AC was not working in a few rooms but the staff made sure they found us a new room where it worked.

Very unique property lack of staff meal was good and bacon and scrambled egg!!!

The hotel is nice and cute. The room is big and comfort. We love it.

Hotel looks good but cheap inside, very dirty carpets, room service cleaning was rubbish, took towels away and didn't replace them, didn't take empty soap bottles away and didn't replace them, had to go down and ask for more of both. Bin was not cleaned or emptied. I personally would stay there again

This is the second time in a weekmthat we stayed here. We liked it so much that we came back.

It was ok! Served its purpose. Traveling through France to UK. Food was good. But we arrived starving and couldn’t get dinner until 9.

Room very noisy. Could hear neighbours conversations. Shower tray cracked and towel shelf fell off wall during night. Struggled to find items at breakfast and spent a long time trying to find the member of staff for help.

The best thing was the departure the day after we had slept here.

Wuick stop over..resto is good so no need to look elsewhere. Room and bed is fine..a little run down but it was only one night.

Stayed overnight en route to France, This hotel was amazing with fantastic rooms.had dinner and breakfast which was excellent. will be back again later in the year.

The room was clean but we couldn't open the window for fresh air as the air con wasn't working. the curtains weren't thick enough to block out the flood lights lighting up the hotel. The hotel it's self had character, we've stayed there several times before and the other rooms were better. This stay, the room was very basic.

Interesting place to stay. A bit out of the way. Looks great for conferences and events.

It was a short walk to a pretty village by a canal. The hotel was built in the form of a castle. Rooms had terrace.

Interesting building, clean& warm room, comfortable bed. Restaurant food quite good with wine and water included. Plenty of parking adjacent to the hotel. Downsides: Hotel is next to a busy trunk road, so easy to find but constant heavy traffic. The room was at the back of the hotel so noise did not intrude. The en suite was ok but a towel rack had been fitted which almost blocked the entrance to the shower. Also, water from the shower had leaked into the wall causing a wet/damp patch in the main room. Overall, good value for money and fine for an overnight stop. .

The hotel was very good for our overnight stop. The only problem was that the restaurant didn't open on Sunday night. This should be made clear on the website and pointed out at time of booking a Sunday night. We had a lovely dinner at a restaurant across the busy road.

Lovely hotel let down by proximity to very busy & noisy road compounded by lack of adequate sound proofing in Room 101. Breakfast was good though "hot" food was cold

Quirky castle was great. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We were just doing a one night stop. Great place to stay and relax . Extremely good on price of the room and bar , restaurant prices. Had a lovely 3 course meal for 15 euros per head .

Customer orientated staff, large, comfortable and clean hotel room, high quality service, good restaurant.

Old cattle theme, handy as it's close to the road.

Drove to the hotel and found it difficult to turn into the hotel as i approached from the "wrong direction" and turning "left" across the road was impossible as the road was very busy so i had a 10 minute detour away from the hotel to enable me to turn around and head back to the hotel on the correct side of the road to enter the hotel parking area...(maybe use google maps to see what i mean). The hotel played loud music outside in the garden area which you can hear in the room but it stopped at about half 11. Apart from the music the hotel room was roomy, clean and the bed comfortable, shower water pressure was good. I had my evening meal in the onsite restaurant and i would recommend (good food at decent prices).

This was our second visit to this hotel, the last being a year ago. We thought the cleanliness had deteriorated. The dinner was excellent as was reception but the breakfast dishes were not replenished and there appeared to be no one looking after the buffet. On the bed there was a hard bolster for a pillow. We found other pillows in the wardrobe but they had no pillow slips on so wondered how they are cleaned? Overall we liked Castle Bonavia but feel they need to raise the level of care. The value for half board is excellent

Spoilt by heavy traffic noise throughout night. Quirky castle type hotel. Very nice room with 2 large baths and nice comfy bed but didn,t sleep well so cannot score higher. Windows need double glazing

Receptionist and staff not very friendly, And I speak Spanish, I felt like I was bothering receptionist when we were just checking in. Went to bar to order a drink, and staff were just too busy I guess to help us. Hotel is way out of the way from anything. And the one night we stayed there the restaurant was closed. good thing we had snacks with us. Hotel is Ok if you need somewhere to just sleep for the night if you are in between locations.

Unfortunately we picked the night of a wedding to stay and it was noisy. The bedroom walls are thin and the guests loud so not much sleep. Local alternatives to eat almost non existent. Looks nice but wouldn’t stay again.

This is a great value property that was rescued and redone. I would stay here again - very safe and the staff was friendly and the place was very clean. We were near the highway and not the hotels fault but the windows had to be open (no a/c) and a bus pulled in to get gas at 0445 and it sounded as if everyone on the bus was at a party - it obviously woke us up but its minor. The buffet was great lots of choices - only thing that needs attention is the warmth of the food specifically the eggs. They were not exactly warm but were not "old" looking either. Microwave helped :-)

Amazing place to stay! Romantic and Medieval, but in the restaurant of the hotel only Spanish Menu and speaking, also very expensive.

Rather fake castle but still interesting job of it. When booking they should let you know that the restaurant is closed on Mondays. The hotel is out in the middle of nowhere so food should be available. You have to run across the highway to a truck stop that is NOT a very good option. Breakfast was more than adequate.

Clean hotel, comfortable room. Evening meal was €14.50 for 3 courses and a bottle of red wine. Nice setting and interior. Would stay again.

Was not expecting too much considering the reasonable rates, however am now left in limbo as to whether I tell anyone how good this place is. Travelling with wife and two boys u13 the modern take on a castle really works. Staff are attentive and good humoured to even basic attempts at their language. The only negative is there appear to be only a couple of staff working at the bar /restaurant at any time. Ignore the reviews which say breakfast is poor if you have kids who sneak a couple of e-number rich doughnuts in their pockets this is a great place. I expect this is a great. wedding hotel and I suspect there are many couples who have had a great day here. The grounds are very nice. Last comment, menu of the day €14, is the best value in Spain. Absolutely excellent.

Good location for travelers in car. The staff seems really indifferent. The room has small ants, which is not so terrible but yes annoying if you want to do your stretching/yoga. The room is spacious. We enjoyed also having the balcony. A/C works well.

You feel like staying in a real castle. The hotel is beatiful, the room where we stayed was cozy (it had a balcony), and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

Very convenient over night stop from Bilbao to Alicante. Room was very clean and comfortable. A full choice of breakfast food including cereals, continental style cold meats, fruits , juices, tea , coffee, scrambled eggs ,bacon ,sausage etc. Help yourself to as much as you want to fill up for the day ahead. Room was quiet despite being alongside the busy N232. Reasonable prices for evening meal in restaurant if required.

This journey was a new experience. With limited directions (post code) we eventually arrived and found the main road with bumper to bumper traffic, single lane. It's pitch black and dazzling lights. Sat nav says you are here but double white lines and oncoming traffic mean a detour to get yourself on the right side. So plan your route carefully. Once there it was easy to park, quirky, and all good. An English couple helped with the Spanish menu and breakfast was great. Great nights sleep. If we travelled this route again would most definitely stay there again

Great hotel but far from city If you like nature great location

Very interesting stay. Themed as a Medievil Castle and a good job of it too. Room was comfortable and clean and the wifi was good. The 'menu of the day' was excellent value in the restaurant, three courses and included a BOTTLE of red wine and water for €14.90. The only thing letting it down was the service wasn't exactly customer friendly. I was there for a meeting at Genetal Motors / Opel, which was only 10 mins away... Perfect for that, and I will stay again.

Overnight stop only while crossing Spain by car. Value for money was excellent as was accommodation and dinner. Hotel was very busy this visit as there was three weddings on the Saturday. Bit noisy but great atmosphere though. We will be back next year.

We stayed one night only en route down to Mojácar. Although it is a mock castle, it was very nice. It's not exactly central to anything but it suited our needs for the night whilst travelling. I had 4 kids and a dog with me and I found the parking good and there were outdoor gardens catering for weddings. The staff were all friendly and the only downside is that it was so near a main road. As I had approached the hotel from the back( near village of Pedrola) it seemed quite rural until I heard the traffic and noise from the front .

Although we only stayed one night as we were travelling through Spain. Our stay was very relaxing and the staff very helpful
