El desayuno delicioso, la atención excepcional. muy amable todo el personal. la haciendo esta muy bonita e interesante. muy recomendable
la ubicacion
The hacienda is a huge, old sisal factory which has been tastefully restored. Our villa was large yet cozy, full of period pieces. The restaurant was jaw-dropping beautiful and the food was the best we have had in the Yucatán. Ricardo was lovely and showed us the grounds: games building (pool, ping pong, tv / karaoke, etc., large pool I could swim laps in, stables for the cows and horses where a monkey also likes to hang out, a ceramics studio and more. We had a kitchen and coffee maker so we could start with coffee in our little garden before heading over to a fresh breakfast. I didn’t want to leave after 2 nights and days. Will come back!
Es un lugar magico ideal para desconcetar, personal super atento, muchos senderos para caminar en medio de la naturaleza
Un lugar tranquilo para descansar!
La verdad no pienso gastar más de mi tiempo en escribir lo mal que está
Room is very spacious which was great. Bed was comfortable. Also the outdoor kitchen area and little pool, what a treat! Lovely to walk around the grounds, it's very green. Such tranquility. Great way to disconnect. Sad we had to leave after 2 nights.
Breakfast was tasty, but I suggest a bit of variety for people who stay multiple days!
Me super encanto y volvere.
This Hacienda is absolutely beautiful and the grounds are stunning, so much to see and explore. The little casita rooms were very clean and well equipped. The staff were wonderful. We stayed here as a family of four and can’t wait to return. Next time we would bring our own food as there’s a kitchen in the Casita, and the restaurant is only opened for breakfast which we didn’t know. Everything was wonderful. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway, and a time to relax in gorgeous surroundings then this is the place. It’s also only one hour from Merida, Izamal and the beach. So a great location for a longer term stay.
It's an amazing place with wonderful energy and fascinating history. Beautiful and comfortable apartments. Wonderful owners are happy to tell about the hacienda and show around the property!
Todo excelente, un lugar para descansar y la comida del Chef Andrés de lo mejor
Lovely property…a restored hacienda all to ourselves
Wi-fi on the rooms could be improved.
Amazing place: acres of grounds and lots of buildings, some restored; some derelict. Very quiet (only 1 other couple staying). Food for dinner and breakfast was lovely, and cooked to order. Swimming pool beautiful
Would have been better if there were more people staying. Also, some background information on the history and restoration would have been interesting.
Me gustaria que en las villas donde son dos habitaciones tuvieran otro baño, porque al estar en la habitacion principal, uno tiene que dejar las puertas abiertas e interrumpir a los de la otra habitación para hacer uso del baño, es incomodo!!
We stayed in this hacienda for 2 nights while driving around the Yucatan area. Our entire trip was organised by a private travel agency, who had booked all hotels for us and put together the route. Compared to the other haciendas where we were staying, this ‘hotel’ unfortunately did not live up to our expectations. First of all, we stayed here as a family of 4 but received the keys to 2 seperate little ‘houses’. Each house contained beds for up to 6 people, so we were a bit confused as to why the travel agency had booked 2 houses. This did allow all 4 of us to sleep in a bed with a mosquito net, as only 1 of 3 double beds in the house was equipped with a net. A mosquito net is necessary!! The bad hygiene attracted way more bugs than in other haciendas we stayed at. The houses themselves were okay. Everything was clean, there were 2 bottled of water and some soap was provided in the bathroom. Don’t expect too much of the private ‘pool’ outside your house. Ours were both very small and filled with bugs and leaves. The food was good but the choice was very small. Our dinner was the same every day: pasta with a choice of chicken, beef or salmon. We were the ONLY guests at this hotel, so there was no ambiance at all. Dinner area was barely lit, we sat in a huge hall with only 4 people. This could be a very lovely hotel but unfortunately they are WAY behind on maintenance. It’s a shame because the area is beautiful and the staff was very friendly. I don’t recommend visiting this hacienda until it’s been properly renovated!
Fantastic Hacienda. Very extensive grounds. Many buildings. The place oozes history. Rooms/houses are spotless and beautifully designed. This place deserves many people to visit it. Great!
It was weird because we were the only guests. The biggest hotel you have ever seen and then just for the two of us. That makes it awkward.
This property was amazing - the rooms are beautiful just like I remember when i was young visiting my grand parents.. and SUPER Clean. amazing how they brought the past to the present and feels like home. - Will be coming back again - all rooms are slightly different and amazing.
This is a beautifully restored hacienda that provides the visitor with spacious and comfortable accommodations within a tranquil natural setting. Everywhere you turn, you'll find something interesting. And the grounds are large enough that you can wander around exploring for quite awhile, then finish off by jumping into the lovely pool. Just one-hour from Merida, but really a whole other world.
Muy tranquilo y perfecto para descansar
Me gustó la hacienda, tiene muchos espacios naturales muy bonitos. El personal excelente.
we spent 2 nights in the hacienda. A moment of relaxation from work. The place is really beautiful. Apart from us, there was nobody in the whole complex so we could enjoy it without other people. It was divine. I wish we had more time for the pottery studio. Worth seeing and buying.
mosquitoes and no comfortable loungers in the villa
Beautiful place to stay within nature
We were the only guests at this beautiful hacienda. The chef cooked us fabulous meals. Lovely grounds, rooms and pool.
Magic place
Mi esposa y yo nos encantó el lugar... La atención, instalaciones y comida de primer nivel!!!
Fantastic staff! Beautiful grounds! Greeted by Margarita and she shared the history of the Hacienda! Chef Andres was very personal and went out of his way to provide dishes to your personal preference! Can’t wait to go back and stay for 3 or 4 days!
Esta hacienda es una verdadera joya! Preciosa, cómoda, con excelente servicio, ideal para descansar y relajarse, el personal muy atento, la comida deliciosa, todo maravilloso! Seguramente regresaré pronto.
We booked a room here based on the glowing reviews in TA and Booking.com. We're still scratching our heads to trying to figure out if this is the same place, as we had a much different experience (new management?). We have stayed at multiple hacienda hotels in our three trips to the Yucatan and this one was, well, just different, to say the least. Some have described this as a family-run business, but they need to hire a professional manager, IMHO. For example, when checking out a "Thank you for staying with us!" would have been nice instead of an indifferent shrug. When we arrived no one offered us a welcoming drink as others have described. The receptionist gave us a campers headlamp, I suppose to navigate the stone driveway (BTW, it's not cobblestone as some other reviewers have described), but our room was so dark (even with the small lights on) we had to use it there as well, and you will need it to read the menu in the restaurant. Shortly after we checked in a male receptionist came to our casita and in a rather testy tone told me our room had not been pre-paid, even though I gave them the Booking.com invoice clearly marked "paid" during check in. We went to the office to try to sort it out and when he logged on to the Booking.com page (hotel's version) it clearly stated (in Spanish) that the reservation had been paid for. The guy still refused to concede his error or issue an apology, but at least the young lady receptionist agreed with me. The room descriptions in Booking.com are a little confusing and the pictures are not always in sync with the rooms themselves. We had booked a two-bedroom "villa" but it was just another casita with a poor layout. BTW, the majority of the rooms are casitas along both sides of the stone driveway seen in so many pictures. After realizing our mistake I asked if we could switch to another casita that had a better floor plan, but the young lady insisted we couldn't be moved because the other rooms hadn't been cleaned. Seriously? We were the only guests that night in a rather large complex. We peeked in the windows of several vacant casitas and they all had fresh linens, towels, etc. About our "villa." It just didn't have a comfortable or efficient floor plan; the first room had two beds and two exterior entrances, but only one door had a lock. The second bedroom had a king-size bed and could be locked. It had a small, galley style bathroom with a sink that only had cold water. Fortunately, though, the shower had hot water and the pressure was fairly decent. The small outdoor "kitchen" area had a sink and dish soap, but it too only had cold water (so much for washing dishes if you were cooking for yourself). Our "kitchen" had a small cabinet and an old-fashioned hot plate and a refer. Conversely, the casita next door had a nice wide kitchen cabinet, microwave, coffee maker, and refer, plus a glass-walled wind breaker. Likewise, its bathroom was very large and bright unlike our narrow bathroom. And you have to love the "Thank you for your tip" sign left on the nightstand; that's pretty tacky. Another oddity, the bed was pulled away about a foot from the wall and didn't have a headboard, so that meant your pillows were bound to fall off the bed during the night. I fixed that with a little elbow grease. And another nit-noid was the terribly noisy ceiling fan; we didn't have a choice but to leave it turned off and use the almost as noisy air conditioning unit. This hacienda, unlike most in the Yucatan that are set back well from main roads, is right off a main road, so we heard trucks, motorcycles, and barking dogs most of the night. And for certain times of the day, you may have to put up with smoke from burning garbage and debris from neighboring properties. Other reviewers raved about the restaurant, but since we were the only guests that night I suppose they had the B-team working. The food wasn't bad and was fairly priced, and the mesero was very pleasant, but the overall experience was just not that great. BTW, the "dining room" is actually a large, dark roofless warehouse filled with empty tables; nice views of the sky, but that's about it. Next, we showed up for breakfast at 8:00 AM the next day as we were told, but no one was there except a young lady sitting in an outer room reading text messages. We went back to the office and asked the young lady if she would call the cook and see if he was coming to work. He showed up a few minutes later and we went through a slow process of trying to order breakfast. Granted, my Spanish is not that strong, and as other reviewers have noted, it works best here if you have some degree of fluency in Spanish. But it all worked out for the best and our omelets were among the best we have had in a long time in Latin America. While it's easy to be critical of the hotel management (or lack thereof), this is a beautiful place. The majority of the buildings have been renovated or at least the ruins have been painted. There was some type of restoration taking place at the "casa principal" and it would be interesting to see the finished product. This appears to be a family-oriented hotel, as there is a tennis court, basketball court, a game room (ground floor of the casa principal, and plenty of bicycles were seen around the property. There are no "gardens," per se, but it is an oasis of sorts in the normally hot and dry Yucatan. Given the uniqueness of the property and fairly close proximity to Merida and the gulf, you may want to give it a try. We just didn't have a good time overall, but perhaps you may have better luck.
Experiencia única e inolvidable Espacios grandes y hermosos Personal super amable y servicial
I have stayed in a number of converted haciendas in the Yucatan over the years, some more pricey than Hacienda San Francisco and some less. Hacienda San Francisco compares well to these others, and I recommend it. Overall, the hacienda is very charming. When staying at a hacienda, we expect an odd pull between comfort with some nice, high-quality details and a bit of a rustic nature. That's what we are looking for, and that's what we found here. The accommodations were comfortable, clean, and spacious. The beds, bedding, and towels were of a high quality, and the bathrooms were well-appointed. Our room had a back porch with a kitchen space (including refrigerator) and a plunge pool. Not all rooms are air conditioned, so if this is a concern, you should confirm that yours is. We had one room with AC and one without, which worked well for us, since some in my family want AC and others prefer warmth and complain about cold ACs. The staff was very warm and hospitable and seemed to keep things running well. While at the hacienda, my sons enjoyed horseback riding and a great pottery class. They also played on the basketball court, and we all enjoyed taking walks and playing games in the small rec center (pool, table tennis, board games, etc.). We ate several meals at the hacienda's restaurant. The food was great, and the waiter and chef were very nice. (Here deep in Mexico, my sons had the best french fries I have tasted.)
We spent that morning traveling on motorcycle through the region, visiting Mayan ruins of Aké and other Haciendas close by, when asked about where would us be staying the night, we replied at the Hacienda San Francisco Tzalcalha in Dzinzantún municipality and they looked at us confused "we've never heard about it" so it made us weary. Finally after a squall we made it and when we saw our room (villa) we where awed because it was exactly like the houses in the peninsula used to be 50 years ago. Anyway the place was a dream, the restaurant is run by a young but skilled chef, the place at nice is beautiful, the old buildings, the Master's house, the pottery shop, the gardens, horses, bycicles and other. We had a lovely weekend and definitely will return for a couple day stay.
Our stay at Hacienda San Francisco was AMAZING! The accomodations were impeccable and extremely comfortable; and the staff was very helpful and kind. We could not have asked for anything more. The ammenities were more than we could have ever expected and the food in the restaurant was beyond fantastic. If you are looking for a relaxing weekend and don't mind great tranquility, do not hestitate to book your stay here!!! I highly recommend this place!!!
We stayed here for one night on our roundtrip. The Hacienda is very nice and we passed there a wonderful evening with good food (i don't know if this was normal or organized for our travel group). We slept in a palapa (the living room was in the palapa and attached to it was a bedroom and a bathroom. Everything was clean and it was very charming.
If you are looking for the real deal to experience how Haciendas might have looked liked back in the day, this is the place to visit. You can tell management is working hard on the remodeling without losing the original flavor. They are also combining the old machinery and workshops with modern detailing and architecture so the final result looks great. There is plenty of things to do, you van go biking around the property, you can spend the day in the pool or just relaxing and reading. They also have a ceramics workshop run by Isabel Ruz who works amazing handcraft which you will not find anywhere else. If this was not enough to convince you I need to tell you about the dining experience there, the chef Erick Reyes, a "graduate" from Ku'u'k (best restaurant in town and one of the best in Mexico) runs this place with humility, allowing the experience to surprise you. His mastery in local ingredients and produce from the local garden and getting poultry and fish from local farmers and fisherman allows him to create amazing dished with a unique hacienda flavor. You need to go for the four times dinner and ask for Negrillo fish or Squash Ice Cream. The cooking is even more remarkable if you think the chef is not using the high tech other places use (like thermomixers, vacuum pumps, etc). Hats off to Erick's work!
This is one of the least known (it is not part of a hotel chain) but one of the best Haciendas in the Yucatan. It is situated about an hour from Merida close to the Gulf Coast and is the perfect place to stay if you are travelling around this part of Yucatan. It is a family-owned, large property that has been lovingly and tastefully restored. The bungalows are lovely and the grounds are beautiful and peaceful. In addition the Hacienda has a young chef, who is creating innovative and wonderful food using local ingredients and Mexican flavours in new and exciting ways. This is not a slick and sophisticated operation like some of the better known Haciendas but is well worth checking out.
The hotel is surrounded by gardens and nature; it is located in a central part of the north of Yucatan coast, near to the beach, natural protected areas and Xcambó (archaeological site); by car it takes less than an hour to arrive from Mérida. The owners are excellent hosts, they take care of every detail; and the complete hotel is decorated with excellent sense of elegance. The rooms are lovely: one called "ripios" and the other are "villas", all of them are well equipped, clean and with option to hang a hammock. There are different amenities for spend the time like free bikes, an area for play games (pool table, ping - pong, tv, etc), also a tennis court, basketball court and a fresh water pool. By night the hotel has a cultural activity for the gest, in our case was a show of Jarana, a traditional dance in Yucatán and for the New Year Eve it take place a show of Mexican music and an excellent presentation of a young mexican tenor. The restaurant offers good and delicious meals prepared by a chef but also the villas count whit kitchen. One detail to consider is that ripios are located a little far from the lobby and both the pool towels and remote air controls are requested there, so I suggest asking them since your registration. You can also ask for help to bring the suitcase to the room, if it´s required. This hotel is comfortable for all, you can visit with your kids, there are a lot of space for run, play and explore; but also for couples and friends. We spend 3 days in absolutely peace and joy. I definitely hope to come back soon!
It is a wonderful place and we had a pleasant stay, but some hints: If you stay in one of the bungalows, be warned that even though ocupancy may be up to three persons, one is supposed to sleep in a hamock. Also, use the bicycles to go to the bungalows since it is a long way walking. Ask about all the amenities, or look around since there are plenty of hidden spaces to enjoy.
Our family had an amazing stay at the Hacienda, which has been restored/renovated with obvious love and great taste. We loved being able to ride around the orchards on the free bikes provided. We also rented horses and the young man who guided us went out of his way to make it a special experience. He took us to see a newborn horse, and brought some of the cattle on the property into a corral for us to see close up. We loved the common area (pool tables, ping pong, comfortable wicker furniture) and had the place to ourselves the night we were there. We only had breakfast at the restaurant (a really attractive space) and it was good - fruit, yogurt, bread, coffee, juice, and a selection of egg dishes. What we really loved was that all over the property there were interesting things to discover, such as a beautiful building which housed peacocks. We rented two of the cabañas, which were very private. Our only issue was that staff forgot to turn on the water pump, so we had no water in the morning, but they quickly resolved the issue. As other reviewers have noted, there are many insects, which is to be expected considering it is a tropical area, so be sure to come prepared with repellant. We had such a marvelous time that at the hacienda that before we even left we were planning our next visit!
this hotel its excelent for families or friendes reunion, relax, meditation. honeymoners. its close at beachs too. the property is big great to explorer ideal for children like to play (exploration). we stay two nts and we would like to be more nts.
Muy amables en la recepción pero la reservación estaba diferente a la mia
If, like we do, you find that traveling through the Yucatan is a magical experience then this is another great, renovated Hacienda to put on your list of places to stay. It may not have the total luxury of some of the other Haciendas that fly under a certain hospitality flag, but it makes up for it in genuine charm and character as well as value for money. Located just on the western side of Dzidzantun, a typically sleepy little Yucatan town on rural road 176. Coming from Merida you can drive via Motul, but if approaching from 180 then you might want to think about Izamal which in itself is well worth a visit. Grecia, at reception could not have been nicer, providing us with a welcome drink as she gave us an orientation and tips of how to enjoy the Hacienda. We had three rooms, all of which were slightly different but all situated between the main reception area and the restaurant and these seemed to be the best rooms on offer. Very spacious with a seating area as well as kitchenette, very nice bathroom and romantic bed complete with mosquito netting. During our visit it was hot so we used the a/c, but in winter I am guessing that you could easily sleep with the windows open, hence the mosquito nets. We also had a dramatic thunderstorm and were happy to be in such solidly built rooms as dramatic bolts of lightening lit up the evening sky. With rain there are always a few bugs, but nothing too bad especially if you use repellant and are aware that the hour either side of dawn and dusk seem to be the moment of peak flying activity for those pesky mosquitos. The rooms also had little private outside areas complete with little cooling plunge pools. The smiling Eduardo helped us with our bags and was always on hand to get us a bicycle which are free for guests and can be used to explore some of the 190 hectares of grounds, consisting of vast fruit orchards and jungle pathways leading to a wooden observation tower from where we enjoyed a nice breeze as well as watching birds and thousands of multi-coloured butterflies. After a walk the large swimming pool makes a welcome retreat. This used to be the major water cistern for the working Hacienda and is therefore deeper than some pools, we loved it and if you hang around during restaurant hours the helpful girls will come and offer refreshments. You might want to try a delicious “chelada”, a cold beer served over ice with lime juice and a salted rim to put back what the morning exertions have taken out… The restaurant is located along a tree lined cobbled pathway, this is not a place for heels ladies, bring sensible footwear, next to what used to be the main machine house of the working Hacienda and it is a splendid setting with tables et up both inside as well as on covered and uncovered terraces. We found the food to be fresh and tasty. For those looking for additional relaxation there is also a small spa onsite, as well as a games room with a couple of pool tables as well as table tennis. A couple of parts of the Hacienda are lived in full time and this just adds to the feeling of staying in someone’s rather magnificent, country home. Be sure to take a walk into the gardens where you will be encouraged to help yourself to whatever fruit happens to be in season and a chat with the staff will be enlightening and heart-warming. We had no idea that the Hacienda’s rooms had little kitchens, so mainly relied on the restaurant, but one night when we were the only guests and the restaurant was not open Grecia volunteered to go get us pizza from town, really going above and beyond… and always with a smile. As mentioned the grounds are extensive, planted with a great variety of trees and flowering plants that attract birds and other fauna as well as providing welcome shade. If you seek white-gloved service, gourmet food and Egyptian cotton sheets, this is probably not the place for you. But if you are of the more laid back variety of traveler and want to experience some genuine Yucatan charm then this is definitely a great place to visit, unwind and relax.
Excelente para estar en comodidad y la naturaleza !!! Está hermoso el lugar
My husband and I have been traveling in the Yucatan for many years. This new addition of a hotel in the country side was a big delightful discovery. The rooms are well outfitted with everything needed for creature comforts. The beautiful surroundings of what was once a very large Hacienda are very interesting if you want to wonder around this very large estate. There is a restaurant on the premises and the breakfast was delightful as well as dinner. A walk around the inner part of the Hacienda was extraordinary. I understand that the hotel has its own farm where many of the ingredients used in the restaurant are used. Having spent a lot of time in the Yucatan, we treasured our experience at this Hacienda Hotel enormously, we highly recommend staying there if you want a little flavor of the Yucatan.
We stayed here for one night on our auto tour of the Yucatan. Had I known just how beautiful and historic this place was, I surely would have booked more nights. This is an old hacienda that has been restored just enough. What I mean is that, while the infrastructure has been updated to the 21st century, the tasteful way in which it was done in no way detracts from the original aesthetic. The photographs do not convey the beauty and grandeur of this magical place. Everyone we encountered was very nice and and helpful. Dzidzantun is a bit out of the way, but trust me, this hacienda is worth finding. It's only about 20 minutes from the beach, so after you finish exploring the extensive grounds on the complimentary bicycles, the gardens, swimming in the pool, playing in the game room, and eating in the excellent restaurant, you can run up to the coast easily enough. This is not a criticism, but the walking paths can be a little treacherous at night, they give you flashlight when you check-in. One bit of advice to my fellow Norte Americanos, brush up a little on your Spanish. It will make your whole trip better.
This Hotel Hacienda is just amazing. The buildings, grounds, and rooms are beautiful. The staff are friendly, helpful, have great local knowledge, and seem to truly care about their job and your experience. The on site restraint is very good and in a lovely setting. There is lots to do horse back riding, ceramic work shop, walking and biking trails livestock areas, fantastic gardens with exotic orchids and tropical plants. Make the effort to get here its a bit out of the way but near the coast and several historic and interesting towns, you will be happy you stayed.
Great place to stay, particularly if traveling with family and friends. The rooms are great (suites close to the entrance with private plunge pool and kitchenette; smaller and cheaper traditional mayan cabins further away). The property is large and the price of rooms includes a fantastic breakfast with fruit grown on the grounds + bikes to explore the land. They have a wonderful fruit garden, lots of vegetation and birdlife, a pool, a nice restaurant, a lovely playroom with pool and ping pong tables, a ceramics workshop, a spa. Plenty to do, including being active or reading on a hammock! And you don't feel like you are in a hotel at all. Everyone is warm and hospitable. The family owners have their own home, decorated with beautiful furniture which they allow you to visit. Great place to wind down after visiting pyramids!
We spend 2 nights from 04/13 to 04/16. Kind and warm attention from the owners, good food and low prices. We're looking forward to come back next year for a swim in a recently found cenote inside the hotel.
