Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Excellent room size with a reasonable-sized bathroom. I love the big infinity pool, and the water is not so chlorinated, so it is refreshing. The breakfast is excellent, but less oily garlic fried rice would be appreciated.
The greenery and landscape are not well-maintained. The paint in many areas of the property requires a facelift.
The breakfast from Olives was good. The scenery of the resort was relaxing. There were many pools to choose from.
We were overcharged but identified the issue so we could get reimbursed through room service and food at the restaurant. The internet connection's password was not working even though we called for it. However, they responded quickly to fix the air conditioning when I complained about the dripping. If you have allergy of molds, check the room first before you check in to make sure that their wardrobe, cabinets, beds, and fridge are mold-free.
The Greek theme really pleases a lot. The cordiality of all the staff also pleased a lot.
Unfortunately, not having access to the beach was a surprise. But it didn’t disturb our stay. The gym needs some repairs and cleaning, but nothing that gets in the way or is an impediment.
The pool was good and the scenary
I like the view
the other part of the hotel like comfort room seems old and other parts of the resort
Mostly everything about the place was amazing. The rooms were a great temperature, the bathroom was very spacious and the living room / kitchen had a lot to work with. Highly recommend!
The showers could be better, out of the two bathrooms, both showers struggled to give out water, and at a good temperature... The A/C in the bedrooms could be placed somewhere else, as it directly blows onto the bed, makes it quite difficult to sleep in, depending on how natural the temperature of the room is
the pool and ocean view
They gave us Villa No. 3, which has lots of defects; old towels; no hot water; bathtub faucet has few water; it takes forever to fill the tub; shower has few water; water spills in the floor not in the drainage; cabinets and shelves are falling; entrance is not cleaned, full of grass; their technician came to repair but the problems came back bread in buffet breakfast are old; lousy food for the price staff are very friendly
magnificent pools, view, villa, security, tranquility and nice staff
no plates, forks, spoons, no microwave in the villa; resto is pricey but food is not worth it; Dec 31 fireworks was poor compared to last year; live band destroyed the new year countdown by not starting at 11.59
Scenery
The bathroom and the shower heads dirty.need to clean well
Poor condition of facility and terrible customer service
This property is very pricey, yet it lacks maintenance and amenities. The villa has 2 bathrooms and another toilet, but they left only half used toilet papers and no more extras left for use. And we stayed 2 nights for 6 people. For paying that high price of the villa, I don’t think it is worth it to stay there. Plus more added deposits and resort fees. There was only 1 or 2 groups I’ve seen during my 2 nights stay, probably because no one will repeat business with them because of it’s being vey pricey when it doesn’t even have amenities. The pool is very far, the ocean side is also far from the villa. You would have to call for the free shuttle every time you have to come out and enjoy the pool and ocean view, if you do not have your own car. It is very poorly maintained. There were buildings or rooms and debris from buildings that were eye sore and were just let go of some of the villas or rooms. It was unkept. I noticed on my 2nd morning that since we were staying in that particular villa, so it was mowed that day too. I noticed after I came back from breakfast.
This property was on the luxury category on the website, but there's a lot that doesn't consider at luxury to my own opinion I've traveled all the world ,but its near to a 5 star. We stayed on a 2 bedroom villa, the bathroom is terrible, the water coming out on faucet is spraying, literally spraying on me wbile using it. It also leaked the water just goes down under the sink ,water all over the floor , the towels are dark white ready eeww! Get this one ,..there is deep soaker tub but no water coming out ,it judt trickles how can you fill the bath tub , no not water either .The bedrooms are big , but there's something missing ,it's only a bed ,, there's no chair to sit in the bedroom its just blank .The curtains wete already old with water stains, its kind of gross..The food selection on the buffet is very average. The grill & barbecue restaurant, we had dinner oh boy the seafood is so gross. The taste ,,the quality of the food is terrible, .I can't believed their serving this food to guests, We didn't eat the food & I brought this attention to the server.,,as a foreigner this is not acceptable, they charge the price for a 5 star luxury resort but the quality of food I can't eat this kind. I can prepare tbis food way better .The toilet by the buffet area was plugged,,its gross its near the restaurant.
The property is tucked in a Poro Point and is quite private. It has a beach access and swimming pools that cater to both adults and children. They have excellent staff, courteous and always ready to help.
The rooms are a bit unkempt. There are molds in the bathroom tiles. The cabinet doors are a bit skewed. Towels are obviously old. The linens and pillow cases are also old (has a yellow tinge). The curtains have molds.
Roaches in the bathroom shower. Rusty shower heads. Overpriced and overrated.
The property was very nice and it's worth your money.
Food selection is fair for inclusive on room rate
Shower and bath is not enough heat for a baby bath temperature almost cold water even staff tried to fix, water pressure on shower heads only trickling takes 45 minutes to complete proper shower. Kitchen does not includes any utensils and must hire separately when needed. Swimming pool water is below the normal level, dirty tiles, algea and tiles missing in many pool areas,
Everything was well thought of, from the amenities to the facilities. Buffet selection was nice and tasty. Olive Restaurant food are delicious. Very friendly staffs. Room is spacious and clean. The pool was enticing and very enjoyable to swim with. Good beach view. A great place to stay, truly.
I like the pool and the easy access to the beach
Its a bit old and not updated The water pressure is so low
The location and the amenities. Villas are good for 4 adults and 1 child.
The cabinet was loopsided and one of the switched were broken
Safe to stay
We enjoyed the pools and on the whole had a comfortable stay but the upkeep leaves a lot to be desired. It appears that keeping everything in good order and especially the care of plants and trees is not the priority. Staff were helpful and friendly without exception. Still, this was not a five star experience. We found it disturbing that the resort encourages smoking through sales ladies parading through our otherwise very nice barbecue meal at the Fira beach club
The pools are lovely and the staff are friendly and helpful but the overall experience was at most three star. The upkeep leaves a lot to be desired and especially the absence of trees along the waterfront and the poor care of plants (which could make all the difference on the main terrace) was striking. Evening barbecue at the Fira beach club was good, breakfast at the Olives restaurant was disappointing. On balance it was too expensive. We found the presence of cigarette sales ladies at dinner time disturbing and not something for this day and age.
Excellent breakfast - a variety of dishes served to cater for different types of guests; young, old, international tourists, etc. Meals I’d had was scrumptious and again for guests who preferred continental breakfast, local dishes, light and heavy meals. So happy and countented with our meals.
Maybe one day an elevator could be installed for retired, Senior and PWD, pregnant guests to ease their mobility to higher floors and for comfort and stable movements.
, and overall, the experience was a mix of positives and areas for improvement. What We Loved: • Location & Privacy: The secluded setting is perfect for those seeking peace and tranquility. • Breathtaking Ocean Views: The stunning ocean backdrop was a major reason I chose this property. • Spacious Villa & Large Pools: My family enjoyed swimming in the expansive pools while I relaxed with the calming ocean view. • Outstanding Staff & Service: The restaurant staff were excellent, and the reception team was superb—knowledgeable, welcoming, and even remembered my name, making me feel like a VIP.
Room for Improvement: • Villa Amenities & Furnishings: While spacious, the villa did not meet Western standards considering the price. The kitchen lacked essential amenities like a microwave and clean dishes for leftovers. The furnishings felt cheap, with an old and stained sink, and no soap provided for the kitchen. Cleanliness is not great. • Water Pressure & Plumbing: The water pressure was disappointingly low, and the toilet barely flushed—this needs urgent attention. • Living Room & TV Size: With such a wide living room, I expected a larger TV that complemented the space. Not all rooms had TVs, which they should. • Villa Design & Renovation Needed: The interior felt dull and outdated, far from luxurious. A renovation is necessary, especially in the restrooms, which had ample space but lacked shelving, modern decor, and even simple towel hooks. Adding a washer and dryer would be a great bonus for guests on extended stays. • Main Resort & Villas Need an Upgrade: The overall resort, especially the villas, would greatly benefit from renovations and a fresh coat of paint to enhance its appeal. Poro Point reminds me of Kempinski at the Dead Sea in Jordan, but the difference is in the luxurious style and design. Investing in upgrades would undoubtedly elevate its reputation.
Thunderbird Poro Point is a beautiful Santorini-inspired resort in La Union, Ilocos Sur. It's a great place to check out if you're heading North. They accept walk-ins and offer day tours for those who only want to swim or dine at their restaurant. We had a great time during our visit. It wasn't packed and we kind of had the whole place to ourselves for a few hours.
Very unique property felt like we were in Greece. Food was good beer was cold staff was great . A special thanks to Ms Kat
The villa is very spacious big rooms and clean but far from the main bldg and restaurants
The room and the whole property is really beautiful.
We had a hard time requesting a better table for the NY dinner countdown. The staff told us that our preferred table is already reserved for a specific group and all the tables were already reserved ahead of time a. I told them I initially called to reserve last Dec. 1. I had to really insist my request before they agree, only to find out during dinner that our preferred table was unoccupied as the group they assigned there did not come. Also, some of our requests when we called the reception were delayed and we needed to follow up before the staff took action.
The view is amazing
The water in the beginning have foul smell and the bed sheet have bug bed it itchy in the skin.
Grecian theme
The place looks nice at first but then you slowly notice the build quality is not great and the walls are paper thin so you have to endure the sound of conversations and TV’s etc until late at night. We literally felt like we were in a cheap city hotel. The room service food was surprisingly expensive. Quality was not bad but the price is that of 5 star hotel but 3.5 star food. The breakfast was really a nightmare. Just crazy busy and the place cannot keep up. Food was not terrible but was again, extremely average. Literally the worst coffee I have had in 20+ years of travel, including 10 years traveling around the Philippines. Room was large and bright. Looked ok. No hot water. Staff were very nice. But they could not make up for the overall shortcomings in our opinion. Checkout forcing you to leave the room to have it inspected is not 5 stars. Again, 3 stars. Maybe they think people are stealing kettles? Not a 5 star process. My fiancée had to stand in the hallway while we waited for staff to carry bags downstairs, due to lack of lifts, and the room was “checked” for I am not sure what.
It is a beautiful and relaxing place complete will all amenities
Ala carte food is expensive but their buffets are reasonably priced.
The front desk staff were not helpful and somewhat rude.
We arrived with no hot water and reported it immediately. They fixed the problem right away and resolved the problem that night. We requested a microwave and provided it right away. Pillows are great and mattress felt good. Staff is friendly and excellent service. Plan to stay again to this Hotel in the future.
The location next to the South China Sea is fantastic. I also liked the security measures in place. Philippines is not inherently a dangerous place but visible security is welcomed and is a deterrent. The staff are super and are universally very nice people.
I first visited Poro Point in 2010 and the older part of the Hotel now needs refurbishment. It is faded. However the bed was very good and the aircon worked. Wi-Fi was good. I didn’t have a hot shave once because the hot water was tepid at best. I had to let out the sink water by reaching underneath the sink and manually lifting the plug device. Olives Restaurant didn’t sell wine by the glass which was annoying so I drank beer. Breakfast was great if you liked Filipino food and there was a total lack of fibre on offer. No toast either. The bespoke omelettes, however, were very tasty.
This place confused me. It’s listed as a luxury place, but I struggled to find anything luxurious about it. You are treated as though you are an inconvenience and the state of the facilities would push this place to even get 3 stars. Some of the staff, in particular the waiting staff in the restaurants are the only ones who appear to offer any kind of decent service. Food prices hiked but you would get better quality down the road from the street vendors. The cafe is quaint but nothing special. The only saving grace is the view, it is very nice. So if that’s all you want then try it, but do not think for a second that you are going to be in luxury!
Nice and spacious
Needs a bit updating
Definitely not a 5 star hotel as advertised. Feels like a 4 star. So many issues with small details and desperately needs a major renovation
Clean, well maintain, good housekeeping, beautiful seaview.
Location a bit secluded
Spacious
Poor water pressure, defective taps/shower.
High end hotel in La Union. During check-in, welcome drinks is served. Room given has pool view. A welcome pastry was also handover upon arrival inside the room. The room is so spacious with sofa bed. Pool is huge. There is artificial tulips that lights up during the night. Breakfast spread is limited. Menu @ Olive Restaurant is very limited and pricey. Thou, quality wise its superb except on our 1st order on chicken where it's almost burnt. Outside food is not allowed, however, no restaurant is open on Monday 10PM, as such we need to go out from the property. Internet is converged even outside the room, however, globe signal in our room is negative.
Just right and Good
The service and facilities fell far short of justifying the high price. This resort is in urgent need of renovation; everything was poorly maintained. The pool was dirty, and there was no lifeguard on duty. The swimable beach areas were also very small and rocky. Furthermore, there was an incident where our door was left unlocked. Instead of offering an apology, the Guest Relations officer, Kath Adona, insisted on an investigation, which only seemed to invalidate our experience. Having visited several places around the Philippines, I must say this resort is subpar compared to those in Visayas and Mindanao. Avoid this resort at all costs!
Pros: Enjoyed a weekend retreat at the resort. Smooth check-in process. Adequate room accommodation, despite encountering issues with the assigned room. Cons: Room had maintenance issues (faulty door and shower). Service quality was lacking, indicating a need for better management alignment. Beach lacked lifeguard presence, compromising safety. Guest service staff, particularly Cath, exhibited rude behavior and lacked apologies for inconveniences. Facility maintenance was subpar, with cracked elevator floors and buildings in need of painting. Pool area showed signs of neglect, including missing tiles and cracks, highlighting the necessity for maintenance to ensure safety and aesthetics.
They should inform their costumers that you will be charged for missing room keys. 300 pesos per card key. Not enough dining options, no convenience store to buy stuff.
The room is indeed spacious, but the resort is overpriced considering its amenities and overall appearance. Paying over $200 for a dirty pool, unclean toilets, broken elevator, and poorly maintained facilities is disappointing. The staff, apart from the nurse on duty, were not accommodating. It's puzzling how some guests rated this resort 3 to 5 stars when it clearly deserves a 2-star rating at best. This experience feels like a total rip-off.
Wonderful!
The main attraction is the Beach and pool which have been neglected over the years missing tiles unused bars etc also the general public can come in and use the facilities for a small charge The Beach is covered in stones and rubble the showers don’t work so you can’t rinse the sand from you on the beach considering the price we paid there is a lot better places to stay for less money,on arrival we reported the bath in our room wasn’t working there was no follow up luckily there was a shower in need of tiling and no hot water,I we accidentally knocked a glass of our bedside table which we were charged for I am sure this wouldn’t have happened at the bar.The food was average and overpriced
The check in and check out processes took about 30minutes or more. That could be streamlined by using digital check out. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean. They provided a clothesline to hang wet items. However, there is room for improvement by updating cabinetry, bathroom fixtures, re grouting, more lighting. Restaurants have a good but limited menu. Each restaurant should have a unique dish that is specific to their respective restaurants. There is room to expand and rotate the menu. The breakfast buffet had variety on a daily basis which was good. The property itself was very well planned and had a lot of nice spots for good photography. I hope they cam develop a cozy beachfront to experience the sea water. The staff was very accommodating, professional, and was always ready to assist. Lastly, I wish the property would partner with tour operators for tours around the property. We asked and it appears we were on our own to do tours around. There should also be activities that can be experienced while in the resort. This will make the resort self sustaining and keep guests inside the resort. Over all, Thunderbird is a good place to be. This will attract families, corporate events and the like. The resort has a lot of potential.
An excellent hotel and location is like no other, breathtaking ocean view. The room we were in is very clean, spacious and amenities complete. Also, the staff are very courteous and helpful. I will be here again within the next 30 days.
Great place unwind..
The hotel rates are really high but the amenities do not live up to the expectation of a supposedly luxury or high end hotel. The TV is not wifi capable and the gym is so small and unkempt, you cannot even work out if they have other guests also using the gym because the size of it is just like that of a regular room. They do not provide free drinking water service to their guests and charge additional fees for the water. That is extremely disappointing since I am a seasoned traveler and had stayed in both high priced hotels and low priced hotels and they always provide the hospitality to give their guests drinking water during their stay. Also, they do not allow their guests to bring up pool towels to their rooms. You have to surrender the pool towel immediately after getting out of the pool, the result is that you are dripping wet and cold when you get to your room. This is the first time I came across a hotel which charges high priced hotel stays but does not have the hospitality to make the stay of their guests comfortable. If you want to stay at a high end hotel in La Union, just stay at Aureo resort, they have excellent service and lower price. THUNDERBIRD IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY.
We stayed here for three nights. We were lucky enough to be upgraded by management to a suite with a view of the ocean. It was nice to be able to sit on our room’s patio and enjoy the sea view. The room was very clean and even had a small kitchen area. The resort facilites are very nice and management and staff were very friendly and accommodating. Thank you. There are two pools. The larger one is 3 to 4 feet deep. The second pool, closer to the water and next to the Fira Bar is 5 feet deep. Both pools were nice to swim in and very clean. We played golf a few times at the resort’s Cliffs Golf Club. It’s a 9 hole course that’s about 3,000 yards from the blue tees. It was fun and we were able to play 9 holes in about 1:45. Our only concern is with the resort’s food operation. Our first night we had dinner at the Olives Restaurant. I had the “catch of the day” Blue Marlin which was very hard and tough to chew and was served with 2 hash brown patties. It was disappointing. The next day for lunch we went to the Deli Shop which had different sandwiches listed on the menu above the counter. But we were told they didn’t serve sandwiches and only had what was in the display cases. So, we went back to the Olives Restaurant for lunch. The first 2 items my lovely wife ordered weren’t available. She ended up ordering the Pasta and Shrimp dish which she said was just ok. I had the Monte Christo sandwich which I didn’t care for. Bonus though, the breakfast buffet and coffee are very good. This is a nice resort that would be even better if they could upgrade their food operations.
Very nice place where you can relax and enjoy the view of sunset!
First time to visit and stay in your hotel. Aside from a family trip we also had business trip attended to. We arrived late in the afternoon tired from a long hour trip. Checked in done. Asked the security officer if it's okay to unload our things/ luggage from the car and he said yes. My daughter was carrying her luggage as long as my two hands were both with luggage. I heard and saw that one female (I think it's your manager) pointed at us and may be asked your staff/ bell man to help us but he refused since he has something important to do. Ignored what I heard and saw. (Pretended ). Your female staff standing beside your nurse station assisted us where the room was. She can see that we're having a hard time carrying our luggage going up. Yes! she offered help but I thought of " baka di niya kaya buhatin, kasi ako nga na mas malaki sa kanya nahihirapan", that's why I refused. Front Desk who checked us in - No name plate that's why I can't commend her. Suggestions for other travelers. If you will check in here, Please don't bring heavy luggage since it's a "CARRY YOUR OWN LUGGAGE". No Lift at the other wing. They don't have bell man to help you with. Recommendation/s: In case you have bell man, the female staff should inform us that they /you will just deliver our luggage if bell man or porter will be available. Ambience and stay - very good. Food- delicious My daughter enjoyed her stay very much because of your facilities. Thank you!
It was less exciting than the first time we were ththerere in 2020. I booked a massage therapy and got confirmed but then when I showed up for the appointment, nobody was there.
Everything were fine
Nothing so far
Hardly a 5 * hotel It may of been once upon a time but now more like 3/4 * The property is in urgent need of a renovation Pools had tiles broken and missing The beach was not maintained to any extent Overall the property is not inviting Almost all paintwork is rusting or very faded The casino isn’t on site it’s a transfer bus ride away Must say the restaurants were nice. Great food and great staff
Infinity pool
Sink clogged Mold in the sink Shelf broken Shower squirting in the ceiling my husband got scared that the roof will fall
none
everything
The staff at the restaurant look so tired, The service was so slow, the drinks we order took 35 mins, we have to follow it up. They served the food one oder after the other! My sister’s food was missed! We were half way eating our food when we called their attention, that’s when we’ve learned it wasn’t included.
Nice venue, good views of sunset, the property is run down and falling apart, elevator did not work. The food is more like cafeteria food not classy or even decent. The pools were big but tile falling apart my son cut his feet so not safe at all. The aircon was good, coffee and bakery was good (Deli Shop). The staff was all nice and pleasant. Will not be going back due to poor property conditions!!

Cold food, cold breakfast, they serving left over food..villa's bathroom not up to standard, bed bugs December 25 breakfast at 8 am egg and cornbeef with left over puto bombom
Had a Philippine trip in December. Stayed at grand Hyatt manila, the manor in baguio, hennan prime in Boracay, luxent in qc and thunder bird in la union. Outside looking in the property looks great, large area, beach front, great views in the restaurant, spa and golf course. Started our check in process showed passport they said room wasn't ready that's fine. Their check in time was at 3. Waited at their cafe, this place had good service kinda expensive for mid coffee but it's an upscale resort so I thought it was fine. We got a call around 230pm that our room was ready, and this is where it starts to go down hill. Did the check in process lady got id and credit card, swiped my credit card for the deposit and I notice her writing something, she started writing my credit card details. The number name and the expiration date. And I asked her what she was doing she said that she needed to write it down because the card details on the receipt was masked! And I told her that there was a reason it was masked , because the deposit already went through and the data was masked to prevent fraud, at this point I was super tired coz we drove from mnl going to La Union and waited for check in so I was like ok fine they're putting it in their safe anyways. While the bellman was walking us to our room I realized that there is no reason for them to write my details on a piece of paper. My room was pre paid, the deposit went through my passport/id had the same exact details as my card. so I went back to the front desk. Asked them to remove my details even if they were putting it in a safe because some other employee could get it and start ordering stuff online. They didn't want to remove it at first so I started flipping out and then they started cutting it I asked why they got it in the first place, explained that the room is prepaid deposit went through and all that. And they said something to the lines of they needed to protect themselves from skippers! So I flipped out more because they judged me in their eyes that my stuff could be fake and I could skip the bill on the hotel on a fully paid reservation!!!! And I told them that how can I skip I'm paid and I have deposit and they gave me some BS about them not being able to get the deposit from the bank if I skip! But they already charged it. God just thinking about it makes me mad again. So I just walked out. When I got to the room it was decent, not really an ocean front room because the palm tree was covering the entire view. The edges of the door showed significant wear and tear. The water pressure in the toilet and the sink was super weak. The flush on the toilet was iffy. You had to press it a certain way so that the water would stop flowing. And the hallways going to the room itself felt like a dungeon. No windows or natural sunlight, felt damp, humid and no ventilation. Towels felt kinda old and everything just didn't feel like it was an upscale resort, it kinda felt like it had motel vibes. After about 5-10mins of settling in housekeeping started knocking, they forgot to put the bath robes 🤦♂️. The next day when housekeeping serviced the room they had bed covers which they apparently also forgot on our initial check in. Fast forward to check out. They asked us to wait for their "check out process' which is just them having housekeeping check your room. After about 5mins go by we ask them how long is this going to take(we were in a rush to leave at 5am) and they said itd just take 3-5mins. So another 5mins go by and then a car gets there and the guy was like xxx(says our room number). So he was just about to just check our room... So I just left. Tldr : FRONT DESK TRIED TO COMMIT FRAUD, rooms old, housekeeping didn't have a certain standard in fixing room(forgot numerous items on setup of the room).
Nice room spacious and very clean
Some interior furniture is rundown
Villa was not clean & lack some amenities
pool room breakfast
The property has the Santorini vibe. The view was awesome overlooking the water.
When we arrived at the property they were having an electricity issue where there was no power in the rooms and no water at the same time. We understand that this was not beyond their control but for a big property and the amount of money people are paying to stay there per night they should have a generator that could supply the whole property energy. We were given a choice to upgrade to a villa and free dinner but we opted for the deluxe rooms to see the beautiful view that they are advertising which you don’t get on their villas. We were then upgraded to their executive suite which offers a private pool and a view of the water from your room, the rooms were huge and nice, giving you a good holiday vibe. We were offered 3 of the suites as we were travelling with our family for a vacation. The rooms were nice but would need more attention to cleanliness and maintenance.
location.. ambiance. pool ...surroundings
room - not smelling fresh and sanitized... fixtures not maintained.. lights in the toilet not good.. bath towels smells bad.. frontdesk not friendly snub and not accommodating
Breakfast was the only good thing.
False advertisement it's not a 5-star resort. I would rate the resort A 1 star. The property is dirty and falling apart. The staff is what's keeping this resort open! I would not recommend this resort to anyone.
The staff is efficient & pleasant 👍
The villa is not very clean 🥺 and to mask the lack of thorough cleaning, the room was sprayed by what seemed like a whole can of air freshener! The smell was too strong we had to open the front door, the windows, sliding doors (that can open) It made our noses hurt. The smell can alter our DNA! P. S. Pictures attached are from the bathroom & dining area. There was wrapper inserted under the table & hair on the seats😳
