The quirkiness of the centre and house.
Breakfast was slow to be served but when it arrived it was delicious.
Its very different unique.
The reception staff aren't friendly at all, there wasn't enough staff on to serve food. We ordered our breakfast first and were almost last to receive our food. We arrived at 7.30 am and ordered within 10 minutes and had to rush eating because our meeting started at 8.30 am. Also I stayed in a podcast, it was cold, no hot water even though I boosted it and the bed was really uncomfortable.
Old cottage style accommodation
Quite small room
Good venue for being so close to the event room. Nice bonus of free breakfast vouchers on arrival and it was a delicious breakfast. Very quirky decorations but lovely and all staff were great.
I stayed there specifically for the event that they were hosting, so, the location and convenience were my priorities. I have stayed here before and found it a fun hotel with great staff, a great restaurant and bar.
Restaurant closes at 6pm on Sundays regardless of guests' requirements. Hot tub mechanism in bath in room 9 (The snooker room) didn't work and shower head kept sliding down the height adjuster bar.
I love this place go about 4 times a year, love the pods and the restaurant and the grounds
The location and proximity to the place I was visiting. Decent food. Good bathroom. Good parking.
My room was a bit frayed round the edges. It was hot. No air conditioning. The sash on the window was broken and the window was held open with a piece of wood. Breakfast could have been a bit heartier. The coffee wasn’t great.
Peter gave us a great welcome on arrival after our flight was delayed.
Easy access to attractions and events that we were visiting but also far enough away to be able to relax and unwind
La proximité du musée national de la moto que nous venions visiter
L'emplacement proche d'une route et d'une 4 voies. En fait c'est un camping mais ce n'est pas stipulé dans l'annonce. Trop bruyant, il faut juste le savoir
Not much to like. We expected a quiet stay in a countryside location. The bed was comfortable. Food was good.
The photos are misleading. I booked the log cabin expecting a peaceful overnight stop in the countryside to break up a long journey. Instead, it was one of the noisiest stays I've ever had. When we arrived, there was a school prom taking place directly opposite our cabin, with groups of people gathered right outside our door. The cabins overlook a car park and outbuildings rather than the tranquil countryside suggested by the photos. We were told the noise would stop by 10pm. We went for dinner, and while the food was good, it was expensive. Unfortunately, there was also a festival taking place in the field behind the restaurant. Again, we were reassured it would all be over by 11pm. In reality, the prom fathers in hired sports cars spent hours revving their engines and competing for the loudest exhausts until just before midnight. To make matters worse, the bathroom shelf was broken, and the TV remote batteries were flat, so we couldn't even use the television to help drown out the noise. What disappointed me most was that no one mentioned any of these events when we booked. Had we known there would be a prom and a festival taking place, we would simply have chosen somewhere else. We booked this stay for peace and a good night's sleep before continuing our journey, and unfortunately, we got neither.
Accommodation was good
There was a VERY loud disco. So loud it vibrated our log cabin. We could not sleep.
Breakfast was not very good but understandable as doing a lot, but plentiful. Didn't like bread and butter instead of toast.
Decorations and weird statues.
Lovely location and property
The setting was very nice bringing in the old world charm of England
The check out time limit should increase up until 12 noon atleast
We stayed in room 6 for my 40th birthday 4 years ago. Absolutely loved the spa bath. The refurbishment on the room looks lovely
Not happy about the spa bath not being there because when I made the booking it stated spa bath which is no longer there. The shower although it looks lovely, wasnt good. The wooden rail on the bed which also looks lovely, you can't watch tele in bed as it obstructs viewing
Location was ok, apart from that there wasn't much to like.
The pod, the bed, the toilet, it was cold. Didnt realise it was a wedding venue and there was a wedding party going on till quite late and loud music. Cob webs all over pod inside.
Everything
Nothing
Love this place - easy access to the NEC, great value, staff are very friendly and the food is excellent.
WiFi in the shepherd's huts is sketchy
Beautiful old property close to everything we needed. Comfy main bed. Good water pressure in shower. Lovely restaurant on site.
The spare towels in the wardrobe, one was wet and looked like it had blood on it. Needed some maintenance in the bathroom. No warning of the horrifically hot water. Sofabed was very uncomfortable
The countryside setting. Good breakfast and friendly staff.
Nothing
Beautiful pod with hot tub
Campers pitched up right by pod partying til almost 3am and staff weren’t bothered
Perfect location. Lovely and quiet by the pod we stayed and the walk over to the lake and that was so nice Beautiful place all around The pod was cute and small bed was so comfty and clean
Very accommodating. I left a shirt in the wardrobe by accident and they kindly agreed to mail it to me.
Clean. Cosy. Staff very helpful. Very peaceful. Will definatly come again.
Quirky bedroom..good value.. good location.. clean and comfy..
A bit noisy in the room due to it being old propery, old plumbing and probably thin walls. More difficult than it needed to be to access out of 9-5 hours..
The atmosphere
The heat blower in my room. The wifi signal in my room was also very bad
Staff made our stay, nothing too much
Fair value but basic
Bathroom too small.
Fab little hut
It could have been cleaner
Very clean and cozy
Check in could be more straightforward Footway platforms to each glamping pod would be ideal Especially when grass is wet
The theme of the room was fun, and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom had a wonderful shower too. The restaurant offered a great selection of food for breakfast and dinner.
The mirror light in the bathroom could not be turned off, and the cold tap needed to be fixed, but they were quite minor. The larger issue was that we were not told the times that breakfast was available which caused our group a lot of frustrations.
Everything, staff, area and accommodation
I travelled with students travelling to the NEC for Crufts, perfect accommodation for us all to be together. Getting the voucher for breakfast was a great addition
Friendly staff, nice clean room.
Check in was in the restaurant as reception was closed. Process and location.of restaurant wasn't explained very well.
Fun family experience. We love coming back here.
Everything was outstanding from the friendly helpful staff, evening meal and accommodation
Not applicable
It was clean and the lodge was beautiful the hosts were so welcoming and it was so peaceful everything you would want from a log cabin just stunning
The room was comfortable and clean, the staff were really friendly and made us feel very welcome.
How we could hear people thumping up the stairs to their rooms and the air conditioning ticking at night.
Very private, nice spacious, clean and warm room.
Not enough plates/cutlery for 3 people
Comfortable, warm quiet clean, tidy room , ideal for NEC, BHX, JLR
all good
Very quirky place and stayed in a room that looked like an old suitcase. It was a bit wonky but its an old house. The breakfast was great in the quicken tree , also very quirky with novel little touches. Defo staying here again
The shower door didn't fully close and I had to use a towel as a bath mat
Room was amazing . Staf were brilliant
Nothing didn't like
The location for our needs was excellent and parking was provided. The Zoe Pod was warm and welcoming on arrival as was reception staff. Unfortunately I can't remember the member of staff in reception that helped with my queries on several occasions but she was extremely helpful, as was Louise at breakfast time with accommodating specific meal requests. We were also upgraded, which was a pleasant surprise. I would also recommend hiring the hot tub.
I can't fault our stay.
The food was incredible
Nothing i didnt like. But the bed could have been a bit more comfortable
Our pod was fabulous, clean and great facilities. We had a fab stay and the venue was just amazing. the breakfast in the restaurant was also beautiful!
nothing!
The location
Not cleaned properly the wedding had stains in it and there was dead wasps all over and in the bedding
Quality of facilities. Cleanliness. Great staff.
Themed room (steam punk) make a little too quirky. Couldn't see out of main window in room and couldn't work out how to raise blind on smaller window. Sliding door on bathroom - always prefer a proper, lockable door. And no handle on the bathroom door?
Been here several times - always great and will come back again too!
Every thing, 2nd time here, love the pods, ambiance, so peacefull and food amazing
Nothing
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
The whole setup is disorganised. Avoid at all cost. The price point is too expensive and not good value for money. Wasn’t clean stains on the walls, sheets etc. October 18th 2025 I went and honestly won’t be going back.
Very nice breakfast via a voucher system.
All Good
A good rural location with nice views.. Good breakfast included and free parking.
Our cabin in the photos has a hot tub attached to it which in the description doesn't state its extra charge. There was only one heater in the whole cabin so the bedroom got a little chilly during the night. The cabin is in a field and you can't park near it and the shortest route is through the field which is damp and muddy. Or around the side of the field on a uneven track which isn't lit at night so use at risk. There was an event on and LOUD music playing till half 12 at night which we could hear from the other side of the field in our cabin furthest away. Overall disappointed this time round compared to the last cabin only stay which was a much better more relaxed experience.
It was cozy and warm and had everything we needed
It wasn’t the POD confirmed on our booking. It was older and smaller than the one shown
Loved the pod! Have stayed here before, in the house, and a difference pod! So fab. Hope to stay again!
The food in the restaurant was very good
Accommodation was very tired and not well maintained
Friendly, welcoming feel/ambience; food was good
A little outdated - but everything worked!
Very comfortable and friendly staff. Liked all the decor
Nothing
Location, onsite restaurant, spacious, quiet, helpful staff,
No window in room, heating not working,
Great place with so much available on site which made the stay more comfortable
Location was perfect. The staff were excellent. Room was very clean. Food was lovely and good value. The surroundings and decor were interesting and unusual. Not your average hotel. Full of personality.
The rooms are all different with some having very peculiar decor. (which is fun) My room was made to look like the bed and furniture were made of old suitcases. Great room, but, the bed creaked to an annoying degree...
Good location, the pod was really sweet and well equipped. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Had quite a damp smell about it - I think the bathroom needed a deep clean and the curtains needed a wash, one of the TVs didn’t work (or at least the remote was missing so we couldn’t switch it on). The second bed wasn’t made up so I had to go ask for bed linen and more towels. The sofa bed kept sliding apart so made sleeping on it quite difficult.
The facility and the scenery was beautiful
I have never been treated like that by any staff in all the places I have ever stayed, was made to feel like an idiot and embarrassed infront of my partner it's definitely going down as my worst hotel experience
.
We stayed in Room 9 for 1 night on Saturday 18 October. Whilst the room looked nice on the surface, that’s where it ended. The room was dusty and the bathroom mouldy. The jacuzzi bath advertised did not work. We had the worst night’s sleep I have ever had in a hotel, the room was uncomfortably hot (there was no way to turn the radiator off) and at least once an hour a clearly broken pump started up in a locked cupboard in the room which ran for at least 20-30 minutes. Creating a banging sound. As the sun was shining when it was time to finally get up we went to breakfast - which stated was included but was in fact only a voucher of £8.50 per person to order from a menu. This was adequate for us, but was not the breakfast offer that you would get else where or was implied. Unfortunately service for breakfast was slow and transactional! We had planned to go for a walk around the site, but due to a private event that was happening in the marquee there was Indian music blaring out at 10.00 am which somewhat spoiled the Sunday morning ambience, so we went home earlier than planned. As it was Sunday when we departed and the reception closed we could only report this to a member of staff who was passing through the house. I shared the video files with her and she confirmed that she would ask ‘her boss’ to call the next day. I had no call on Monday 20 October. So I sent an email. Still no response. I have waited to leave this review, as I believe it important to give the hotel a chance to respond, customer service is best shown in a response to an issue.
We had purposefully booked 2 rooms in the main house given the time of year we choose not to stay in the pods. On arrival - we were allocated two pods. This was disappointing given the choice allowed at the booking stage. One of the pods was fine, the other was on an angle and my colleague found it hard to sleep. No apology was offered - the staff told us it was too late (19:30) to have anyone to help us and basically that we had no other option.
Well where do I start - this is the email I sent to the establishment - I have yet to receive a response. I sent the email on 20th October 2025. Good Afternoon, I am writing to raise a formal complaint regarding my recent stay at the Old Hill Hotel in Meriden, during which I booked the Nicky Pod for £100 on 25/10/25. Unfortunately, the entire experience fell far below acceptable standards — both in cleanliness and functionality — and I am requesting a full refund as a result. When I arrived, the pod was visibly unclean. The floors and wall had visible dirt and stains, the microwave was unclean (dried bit on the corner) and there were general signs of poor maintenance and hygiene. The towel folded on the bed was stained, which is highly unacceptable and unhygienic. The shower had no hot water as the boost system was not functioning, leaving us unable to wash properly. I have a video of the water not draining from the shower but I can not upload it here. As the pod manager had already left for the night, I reported this to the restaurant staff, who kindly arranged for us to move to the family lodge. While I appreciated their efforts, this accommodation was also unsatisfactory. The shower drain was blocked (picture shown) and full of hair and foam residue, and despite removing what I could, the water still did not drain away. Considering the lodge is suited for a family of up to six people the shower should be immaculate. It should be cleaned and unblocked every month or so and the water pressure shouldn’t be a light trickle. The restaurant experience that evening was equally disappointing. Our second round of drinks were brought out before the first, and the Baileys floater was initially served without Baileys. Thankfully, one member of staff noticed and corrected the mistake before my partner realised or took a sip — they also kindly comped both delayed drinks without neither of us needing to ask. I asked the lady that served me originally if I could keep the menu incase I wanted to order more drinks/ dessert. Not once did she mention that there was a separate dessert menu that the menu I had didn’t cover - a separate member of staff told me that. To reiterate I appreciate the positive response from the restaurant staff and the willingness to rectify any issues that arose. The whole experience overall highlights the lack of organisation and communication among staff. When I ordered the £19 special, I was not informed that the broccoli listed with the dish was unavailable. I was only told this after the meal was served, after I had mentioned the missing item. it was made out as if it was an optional extra but it was part of the main menu. The explanation kept changing first being told I could have it, then that it wasn’t available for the dish but could be put on ( I assume that means they only had short broccoli instead of tenderstem) and finally that it wasn’t available at all. The dish itself arrived with packet mash, which for the price, was quite poor value. I had asked the general manager for the email of the accommodation, who then gave me the business card of the restaurant which wasn’t suitable for my needs. I then asked who I presume was the deputy manager of the restaurant for the email of the accommodation while she went to go get my drinks, she didn’t give it to me either upon her return with my second round of drinks. I then asked another member of staff for the email for the lodge when he came to deliver my food, This member of staff was very helpful, I appreciate his help but I should not have to ask for a simple thing three times from three different people. I want to acknowledge that Lucy, the restaurant manager, was as helpful as she could be in the situation, but it was clear that the whole setup — from communication to cleanliness — was disorganised and below standard. I would like to reiterate Lucy is the restaurant manager and has no control over the hotel side of things. Given the unacceptable hygiene, lack of working facilities, and poor service throughout, I believe a full refund of £100 is completely justified. I have attached photographs to support my complaint, showing the condition of both the pod and the lodge. Lucy can attest to the conditions of the pod. Please confirm receipt of this email and advise when I can expect a response and refund.
Food great. Restaurant great. Decor great. .
Bedroom tiny and received several bruises trying to get round the bed. Also the shower room needs a bit of touching up - blacking round tiles and toilet. Bed was not a comfy mattress.
Lovely cosy and warm little pod
Only a small niggle, no real mirror, the one that's provided needs to be higher for easier use..
location good, lovely setting
Decor a bit tired, but only stayed one night so not an issue
The location, setup, ambience - really everything was just great. We didn't expect it to be so good. We've had pods before but this was the best - and so cosy. The weather was cool and a bit damp so the warmth was appreciated. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was sound.
A light switch nearer to the bed would have been useful and an offer of yogurt and fruit etc for breakfast would have been nice but all the food for the breakfast was freshly cooked for each order. No crispy fried eggs here.
Love its quirks, great facilities around the hotel, wonderful walks and restaurants right next door.
we absolutely loved our time here! was only short but wished it was longer! the staff were great and the room was so clean and cozy!
the beds were a little springy and gave abit of back pain but still slept the whole night through
Location for work
Reality less glamorous than the advertising would suggest
Convenient for the conference centre.
It’s a lovely property and quite quirky which adds to its charm
The room had a refurbishment but some bits looked unfinished and the taps in the bathroom sink are not suitable for the sink
Arrival was a little fraught thanks to my sat nav and arriving in the dark but once parked up I was able to get my key from the restaurant as directed. The room was excellent, wished I was staying longer. The cooked breakfast was the best I have had this year - great quality ingredients perfectly cooked.
Was advertised as a king bed, arrived to find a bed smaller than a double to share with my girlfriend. Barley slept. Waiting for a call back tomorrow to hopefully get a night for free in another cabin.
We liked everything about our stay.
Nothing to dislike.
Location to the venue
Some attention needed to the interior , and slightly Overpriced
Awful stay.
Excellent customer service friendly staff relaxed atmosphere good facilities
Amazing place, friendly welcome e at reception by Lia, explained everything. Lovely comfortable and warm chalet and exceptional bar and restaurant with outdoor, covered outdoor and indoor seating. Lovely menu and food and drinks. A fab place to stay, highly recommend

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
7.2/10Mixed reports: several guests noted cobwebs inside pods, a wet towel with possible blood stains and some bathroom maintenance issues, though many rooms were otherwise acceptable.
Service
8.9/10Generally praised — staff described as friendly and helpful (recommended for NEC stays), although one report mentioned staff were unconcerned about late-night campers disturbing a pod.
Location
9/10Location is frequently described as lovely countryside, close to the lake and convenient for the NEC; however some cabins overlook car parks and on-site events/weddings can disrupt the tranquillity.
Room Quality
7.8/10Rooms and pods have positives (comfortable main beds, recent refurbishments, spa/hot-tub in some units) but also issues reported: broken bathroom shelf, flat TV batteries, removed spa bath in some bookings, uncomfortable sofabed and some dated features.
Amenities
8.2/10Good on-site amenities (restaurant, spa facilities, pods with hot tubs in some cases) but some guests reported removed advertised features, sketchy WiFi in shepherd's huts and inconsistent facility maintenance.
Value for Money
8.7/10Mostly positive — several guests called it great value (especially for NEC stays) though a few noted the restaurant/ dinner felt expensive.
Food and Beverage
8.9/10Food receives strong marks: multiple mentions of good food and a plentiful, lovely breakfast, with only minor complaints (e.g., preference for toast over bread and butter).
Overall Experience
8.5/10Mixed overall: many guests enjoyed the setting, friendly staff and comfortable beds, but multiple stays were marred by loud events (proms, festivals, weddings, discos) that prevented sleep and by some maintenance/cleanliness issues.
