Peaceful and quiet Lovely friendly staff Lovely bar area with lovely bar staff
Leaving
Friendliness of staff
I couldn't figure how to turn the shower on! I took a bath instead!
Delightful location.
Rough road surface up to location entrance.
It was set in lovely grounds and I loved the corner bath
Bit of a walk from the car park
Lovely staff, (especially Peter) fab breakfast and beautiful hotel

The staff were extremely helpful especially as my husband couldn't make the stairs and we had to change our room.
Would have been easier with a lift.
Lovely little boutique hotel, friendly staff and comfortable very clean room. The hotel was fully boked and tells you all you need to know mid week. Excellent value for money and my evening was excellent as was the breakfast. I will return when I am next up in Blackburn visiting clients.
One very very minor thing I could not get hold of an iorning board.
Views from the room. Breakfast choices

I work locally and this is my place to be .. everything is top notch

Very quiet area, lovely building and staff. Our room was upgraded as there was a wedding in the hotel that weekend and so they put us in a room that was furthest away from any noise that might come with that.
We were offered a buffet breakfast, not the freshly cooked off the menu as was indicated in the Hotel pack in the room. A bit disappointed as we were looking forward to Eggs Benedict. The overall choice on the buffet breakfast for a 4* hotel was quite limited. It may be because they had a wedding party staying and that's what they offer as part of the wedding package and so offered it to all guests that weekend.
The actual hotel was stunning.
There was a wedding on. If I had know I would never have booked. They were so loud, easy beyond 3am in the morning, so very poor sleep. The room had mould and damp. Everything was very tired. The lighters didn't work, when I pulled the bedside table out to find a plug socket, it was disgustingly dirty. Old nails, dust, skin flakes, vile. The shower pressure was poor. Breakfast was not good value for money. It was warm and not well cooked. Overall, very disappointed with the hotel and I won't recommend our return.

The place is very old , damp carpets, washroom was dirty, spider in the room.
Every thing , old room , dirty and smelly
Property itself is very nice and surrounded by greenery (and also surrounded by other houses, i must mention).
There is poor sound proofing between rooms (I stayed on ground floor) so could hear tv, songs, couple talking and snoring from my room :-(. Double room given to me (no.6 on ground floor) is a bit cramped and bathroom is smaller too.
Had a beautiful room, staff were very friendly and helpful. Sunday lunch and breakfast was very good.
It was clean and ideally located.
Staff were unfriendly.
Really lovely location, beautiful old building and plenty of parking. Breakfast was really nice with plenty of options. Staff at check-in and breakfast were really helpful and polite. There was a wedding happening while we were there, and even though we were near where the guests were chatting outside, the double glazing kept the noise out and we were not disturbed.
Our room was on the ground floor and had quite a bit of damp- didn’t notice until the morning when we got dressed and the clothes we had put on the chair were damp too. Was also surprised at check out to not be asked how our stay was- but maybe he was just busy dealing with other things.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good with a lot of choice and freshly cooked.
Fixtures and fittings a bit tired. Room quite small.
Convenient location for us. Near to motorway and walking distance to town centre. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Very clean & comfortable bed.
Nothing
I liked the gardens and the general appearance of the building.
Meal selections are minimal in terms of choice and inclined to be gastronomically heavy-ish. I like a choice between small, light meals and occasionally heavy meals. Not everyone needs to eat like a farmer.
Location. Friendly staff and, having remembered us from past visits, made us feel like valued customers. Also very good about arranging for specific dietary needs at breakfast.
Outside area was nice
Communal areas not so clean Felt crowded
Friendly staff and good location for visit.
Shower was a bit of a trickle.
Great food, lovely staff.
I am originally from Darwen and know the location intimately. I have also stayed here previously. I was in Darwen for family reasons and this was the reason for my choice. That said, this hotel is superb, it gives excellent value, is set among some beautiful gardens and has a rich, local history. In common with many historic buildings there are limits on what the owners are legally allowed to do, this means there are some aspects you can consider “quirky” but it is a very nice and comfortable experience. Compare with the “bubblegum” premier inns or other chains by the motorway, you get a unique experience in an amazing property at a very reasonable and competitive price. The dining is excellent and the hotel is just 10 minutes walk from this East Lancashire town center. The staff are very friendly and accommodating to every request. I would stay here again in my visit to Darwen.
There is nothing to not like.
The staff were great, kind and helpful.
The mold and damp in the rooms, extractor fans didnt even work. Refund for a cot never arrived.
Lovely hotel, convenient for what we needed for the night, staff were all so polite and our room was spotless.
Breakfast was served until 9.30....we arrived at 9.10 ish and there wasn't much cooked breakfast left. Fair enough we left it a little later, however there was more bacon and sausages brought out after we arrived. The sausages weren't cooked enough though.
The staff were very friendly upon arrival and answered all our questions about the stay. There was a wedding on during our stay but happy to say we weren't kept up through the night.
The shower could have been a bit more powerful but we made do.
Everything was amazing. Real sense of grandeur.
Old charm lovely location very quiet even though wedding was on Quality ingredients breakfast
Shower curtain needs changing
It was in a quiet area a set back from the main road. A country house style property which was beautiful
Felt a little cut off from main services but it would be stunning for a wedding/romantic weekend away.
Pillow smelt dunny Addutional charge for breakfast
Breakfast was superb. Available from 7:00am in the week. Plenty of room to park. Nice and quiet. Not that far from the M6.
Nothing.
Quiet, hidden location. Spotlessly clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. We ate at the hotel in the evening - food was excellent and beautifully presented, being vegetarian we were pleasantly surprised and impressed with the vegan menu. Would recommend this little gem.
I booked a room without checking if there was a lift when I got there it was upstairs so I couldn't stay the staff where very helpful and waved any charges allowing booking.com to give me a refund and book another hotel while we sorted everything we got a coffee no charge I would like to thank the staff for there help and if anyone is thinking of staying hear go ahead and book because after my tour around the hotel you are in for a great many thanks Tony Blair.
Na
Mostly everything,very comfortable.
The tv didn't work, but we didn't want to get the night porter so our fault
Lovely grounds, peaceful and impressive building. Full of character and has a homely feel.
The road leading up to the hotel was quite bumpy, have to drive quite slow to avoid damaging car
How it wasn’t in a built up area so was very reserved and quiet.
Nothing was a perfect stay away with my partner and my little son.
Superb building with nice rooms, great staff and good breakfast.
Excellent breakfast provided, lovely views from the Hotel. Evening meal was well presented and very tasty at a reasonable price.
Nothing, a beautiful location and lovely gardens.
Been a few times enjoy it very much
Not much the road up to the property needs attention

Tucked away up a hill in a lovely peaceful setting, we didn’t have an evening meal but the breakfast was really good.
Beautiful hotel beautiful surroundings
Not disabled, friendly, no lift didn't help with the bags, had a walk up to flights of stairs to get to the third floor Reception staff just sat on their sits, just once got up to get key, then sat down I was clearly disabled Breakfast was not worth £12 , yoghurts were warm, not on ice or cold tray, and flies everywhere Staff were all in the reception area No continental breakfast, as advertise We knew there were weddings on the two days we wear there, but staff was more interested in helping wedding guests than their normal guests All the rooms we went in needed repairing or paint touch up
It was lovely to find such friendly and efficient staff who were great to chat with. I had a standard room which was perfectly adequate for my two nights business trip. Good hairdryer and plenty of plug sockets next to the bed. The bed was comfortable and as I kept the curtains closed each day in the heat, I slept well. Breakfast was plentiful, the first morning was a hot buffet and the second morning was cooked to order as the main restaurant was being prepared for a wedding. Both experiences were good. The music in the restaurant was great, they must have known I was a teenager in the 80s!
The room would have been perfect if it had hooks on the back of the main door and bathroom door as the towel rail wasn't big enough to place used towels so I used the back of the chair to dry them.
Beautiful building and location, comfortable room, clean, friendly staff, good food. This is my hotel of choice when staying in this area.
Nothing
Beautiful room and location :)
When handing over my key i felt the staff was rude and just wanted to get rid of you :( no "hope you enjoyed your stay" or even a thank you...felt very awkward indeed :(
Very welcoming. Lovely team and location. Quaint old hotel, lovely setting, very comfortable.
Nothing to dislike.
Had a light breakfast but was good quality
No AC or room fans. Dont like the fact that the TV wasn't connected to normal channels, you had to log in to watch.
Excellent and exceptionally good.
All was very good indeed, exceptionally great friendly staff.
Very comfortable and clean
Lovely building and staff
Very poor room. Saw the offer on booking. Com. At low cost but they give you a really bad room.
Beautiful building and surroundings. Staff were very friendly and accessible. Excellent breakfast.
Rooms very very dated and tired. If the rooms were refurbished and updated, with a few more personal touches, it would make so much difference also due to the midges you can have the windows open at night. Air conditioning would make for a really comfortable stay in the summer.
The Astley Bank is a brilliant hotel and I would fully recommend it to anybody needing accommodation in that area. The quality of the property is first class and full of charm. The hotel has a large free car park as they cater for wedding venues etc.
There is nothing to dislike.
This little haven is a wonderful hidden peaceful gem tucked away in Darwen. You could be anywhere. The staff are lovely and can't do enough for you. Asked for a coffee and to go outside, thinking out the front and I was taken to a lovely private patio area.
Nothing.
A fantastic hotel with great food
Nothing
The staff are all friendly The breakfast very good The meal last night was exceptional
All good
I stay here twice a year for a work event and love it. Gorgeous food at the end of a long day and very comfortable beds.
There was a booked party on (and often is) and my room was on the function room side of the hotel. I will request to change this next time.
Fabulous period hotel with professional and helpful staff highly recommend
Great place great dinner and particularly the breakfast
I booked here for my son who suffers from anxiety, he found the staff to be friendly and happy to help. The food was exceptional and the rooms were clean. Very useful guest pamphlet which came with menus for the restaurant and a booklet with places to go in Lancashire as well as the number for local taxis. I would definitely recommend.
I have no criticisms
Was quiet little place as in manor a mega block
Had a double which was 2 singles put together and they was different heights so was uncomfortable and also have strands of hair jus in plain sight on the bath and side was extremely dirty to see and experience
Superb location, and very helpful staff. The room had all the facilities expected. The TV was a little difficult to operate, but a minor point as we could view the World Cup in a big screen in the comfort of the downstairs bar. Lovely hotel interior
For the price, it was excellent. Nothing to dislike.
Lovation
The wedding, room was too warm need a fan
Loads of parking, comfortable and clean. Decent breakfast.
Nothing.
This is a beautiful old house. It has stunning grounds.
My room was a bit tired and some of things didn’t work I.e the kettle and there was no usb in the room. Both things were rectified though.
The hotel
The TV system
Amazing staff, food at the restaurant really good. Went out of there way to help celebrate a special occasion for me and my partner.
Beautiful building in stunning grounds, a hidden gem
nothing
Beautiful property and staff were amazing
Breakfast wasn’t best but service good
On quiet ground,Beautiful hotel well kept.
Dripping tap in the bathroom, house keeping was very apologetic,no maintenance work at weekends
Quiet location (despite near a main road), nicely decorated entrance and guest areas (gardens, Reception, Bar, Dining Room, etc) with wooden panels, fireplaces, marble floors, painted ceilings, landscaped, etc. Comfortable beds, hot shower, compact rooms but still spacious. Relaxing bar and lounge areas.
Pillows were very flat - even using the extras in the cupboard. Couple of coffee stains down wall near desk and sockets on either side of the bed were loose. Nothing major but noticed
Lovely property in nice grounds and close to where we wanted to go
Mixer tap showers bit difficult to get temperature right. Bed a bit narrow, small double. Breakfast was ok but short of pastries etc
The hotel was very nice. In a nice quite location. The staff were very friendly.
Unquestionably great
All wwnt well for me
Very good, excellent Service and area
Everything was perfect
Excellent location for my 4 night shifts in Darwen. Nice view from my window and nice gardens to walk around during the day.
Restaurant food was nice but a little pricey.
I loved this place was nice and clean the staff are exceptional nothing was a problem for them not that I had any problems or issues with they were very professional and engaged with me right from the start will definitely stay they again
Nothing very thing was great

Lovely and clean. Stunning location

The location for me was excellent as my boy has just moved about 1 mile away. The staff were more than helpful for me when I called them up with a problem.
I didn’t like the fact that when you flushed the toilet it took ages to refill creating a refilling noise. The shower was just warm enough to get in for me personally but my wife had a quick cold shower.
Beautiful setting. Very clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is tasty
Nothing
Very comfortable stay, the grounds are beautiful and the breakfast was delicious
It’s a beautiful hotel but some of it could do with just a bit more TLC
Nothing at all
It was just dirty , the bath had littral brown carpet around it the same as in the bedroom , it was a very weird / extremely dated room was nothing “executive “ about this place at all , there was no AC and was extremely hot , the hole place just feels depressing, would not recommend it to anyone , needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it out of the 1980s
That it was a building built in the 1900s but had been modernized. Beautiful property.
Great little hotel for a mid-week stay. Good value, staff were welcoming and the location is close to Darwen town centre.
Breakfast could be a little better
