Everything was great
I was only staying 1 night
Location.
Wardrobe.
Nice rooms Great breakfast
Shame menu virtually identical to Tongue Hotel
The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. The facility reflected its historic pedigree.
Nothing
I thought the breakfast was exceptional.
Evening menu choice could have been a little better.
Very strong overall performance inc. Food and staff !
Listed as having a pool and it didnt. If it had one or was listed correctly wouldve given a perfect 10 as i was disappointed when i learnt it didnt on arrival.
Beautiful rooms and excellent bar/restaurant area. Lovely contemporary decor, comfortable and clean. Location next to golf club and beach was perfect. Staff were fantastic.
Bathrooms a bit small and supper menu limited.
Great location half way to the Orkney Ferry from Inverness airport .
Arrived to no reception as they had gone back to university. Grounds looked like they need some love too. For £300 I expected a special room with the finer 4 star touches. It was unremarkable.
Really friendly staff and the breakfast was amazing
Breakfast was excellent.
A ground floor room would have been good.
We stopped at Brora on our way back from Orkney. The Royal Marine is a very nice hotel with lovely rooms and great staff. We will go back soon and spend more nights there.
Excellent
A pleasant stay, everything was ok but for the price of accommodation , food, drink etc I just felt a little bit more TLC is needed to enhance the experience.
We had dinner in the restaurant this evening and were hoping for something special. What we got was food which was pretty ordinary, it was over priced and the service was awful. We definitely won't be back.
Lovely location, very welcoming staff, and a quality feel to it. Everything has been refurbished so the rooms are all modern and comfortable.
We had a suite and junior suite and thought they were great, very dog friendly which was appreciated
Restaurant was lacking and given the bar was meant to be a feature was disappointing
We had stayed at the hotel a few years ago whist doing a NC500 trip we decided to return as part of a Scottish holiday and chose Royal Marine due to its proximity to the golf course. We enjoyed our stay and our game.
nice and clean, but nothing else to do in BRORA. Very nice bar keeper and we enjoyed good food / breakfast
The location of the hotel was excellent as we were playing golf at Brora GC
A slight hiccup with the room allocation. Order two twins however this some how translated into single occupancy. The staff sorted it out which was great
Välstädat, fin inredning, lugnt och bekvämt
Lovely room and bathroom at the well kept and stylish hotel. Very nice bar area for pre dinner drinks. I'm sure it would have been even nicer had we been able to sit in the gardens surrounding the property, but due to the rain this wasn't an option. The hotel bar was also popular with some of the locals in the evening.
Unfortunately no lifts and we had a room a distance from reception. As we experienced alot of rain while we were staying there the guttering was overflowing outside our room and needs to be cleaned.
The Royal Marine has the feel of a very grand Scottish hotel but with a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff are friendly and the breakfast was superb!
Restaurant ran out of wine, bar ran out of beer, food awful, service even worse.
Nice furnishings. Good location close to golf course and a beautiful sandy beach. Very nice food and staff.
The hotel cat did not like our friendly Labrador!
The breakfast was good. The room was spacious. Hotel building and architecture was impressive.
No hot water in the morning to have a shower or wash. I was told by reception staff member that this was "usual" for the hotel when full and "just one of those things".
room was nice and staff could not have been more helpful ... in addition the food was good and nothing was too much trouble for their very friendly and helpful staff
Hotel was very clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Food very nice. Bar very friendly with locals using as well. Everyone was very kind to myself and my 2 dogs.
The WiFi is terrible, turned it off on my phone and used my 5g.
Intimate size, close to the town and to the beach. Staff were fantastic, food excellent, so much so that we returned for dinner on the second evening. Noting was too much bother and the team were always available for a chat, recommendation. Loved their resident cat Seymor 🙂

I really wanted to enjoy The Curing Yard restaurant and the bar as it was a personal recommendation, but it wasn’t great. Firstly the positives - the staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful and the location is convenient. Excellent bottle of wine. Unfortunately it all started going slightly wrong as they couldn’t make the cocktail I ordered (from the menu). Never mind, the food menu looks nice. We all fancied the special, but there was only 1 portion left at 7pm. We all then chose different items. Of the 2 starters the Cullen skink interpretation was pleasant and filling - thick leek and potato with some hot smoked salmon, but the signature trio was a duo - no haggis and double black pudding; tasty, but not as advertised. On to the main courses: the chicken skewers were really good with nice flatbread and crispy chips, the halibut was tasty but the fish was overcooked and a bit chewy, the salmon dish was also tasty, but fish again overcooked and chewy. We didn’t mention this at the time as my food was inedible - fish and chips; the batter was flabby and soggy served on top of dark brown, oily, soggy chips. The staff were great though and my daughter was served a veritable mountain of sticky toffee pudding which she thoroughly enjoyed. I’m guessing the chef was ill or has left and they were making do, so I would try it again when they have a chance to improve things.
Trip to Orkney and this was a simple overnight stay. The hotel was perfect. A friendly welcome, great service throughout, a lovely room ( even if our view was rubbish). Extensive continental breakfast free with additional cooked items well priced
Keine direkte Strandlage.
Fabulous location for the East Coast Scottish Highlands. Resident cat in the bar was a particular treat. Bar keep went out of their way to make us some delicious (off menu) kirs.
Fint område og god mat
Nice setting, comfortable, nicely decorated, friendly staff
Drinks and food were pricey for what it was, service charge should be optional
Lovely hotel in a great location. The food was very good and breakfast one of the best we’ve had. Room and decor was lovely, however, the lighting is dreadful - no ceiling lighting and black lampshades on every lamp so it was all very dark, plus all lighting was controlled by the same switch so if you have one bedside light on you have all lights on. Also be aware that every drink you buy has over 20% service charge added. Our £40 bottle of wine with dinner cost over £50! Despite that we enjoyed our overnight stay.
I don’t usually rely on these reviews, but I cannot recommend this hotel more highly. If you are ever in Brora, you need to make it a priority to stay with the Royal Marine Hotel. The staff is full of the most warm-hearted and competent people I have ever met. The rooms are, of course, extravagantly spacious and beautiful and they have a full bar and restaurant on the premises. But the people really make the place and the Royal Marine Hotel is staffed with only the best of the best. 100/10. A***. I will stay with them every time I am in the highlands.
The property was perfect. No notes.
Gorgeous place to visit, hotel is stylish clean and comfortable, breakfast was very good and staff extremely warm and friendly.
Walking distance to golf course

Easy access & parking. Nice blend of modern and traditional.
Some areas are a bit dark.
Absolutely beautiful hotel, very well decorated and comfortable. Room was lovely and breakfast was of a very high standard. The staff made everything perfect - extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming - every staff member we encountered could not have been more professional and Joyce on reception was really warm and friendly.
Lovely stay, nice breakfast, a little disappointed with evening meal. Golf course in walking distance.
The building was lovely. Our bedroom was very comfortable. Staff were very helpful.
The food let the whole place down............we hardly touched our meal as it was well overcooked. We did get it taken off our bill though with no quibbles at all which makes me think food complaints are common?
Dichtbij Dunrobin castle
Weinig te doen in directe omgeving.
This is a very nice curated hotel emulating the 1920s feel in a contemporary way. Helpful staff. Room was stylish but being picky I would mention some aspects were slightly inconvenient with no fridge, erratic TV, no USB ports at all, very small bathroom. Nice breakfast. No clear view of sea, but it’s just round the corner!
We spent a very enjoyable three nights here in June. The accommodation was clean and very comfortable, staff were welcoming and friendly and service throughout the hotel and restaurant was very good. The food in the Curing Yard Restaurant was excellent - a varied and interesting menu, with a tempting daily special that changes every day. Breakfasts were also very good with a wide variety of choices to suit all tastes. A bank of Tesla chargers was being installed while we were there, which will be an added bonus for those, like us, with EVs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely consider returning on our next visit to this area.
Welcoming, excellent service and plenty of parking. Restaurant staff friendly and food high quality. Close to beach but quiet location. Short walk into town.
The lighting in our room was insufficient and it was hard to read even sitting next to the window. No view from our room.
Grand old hotel
We booked a suite which was nice but had a terrible view out back of building rubble etc Charging extra at breakfast for a cappuccino is not acceptable
Everything was superb! Location, staff rooms and food where all exceptional. Thanks for a lovely relaxing stay
Gorgeous hotel and staff were great. Little touches like fresh milk and shortbread were lovely. Comfy bed
Our room was quite small, had a view of a rooftop with a busy fan and the bathroom was a bit tired.
I went for afternoon tea with a lady friend on a Monday from 130pm to about 330pm. It was my first time ever getting afternoon tea and thus has lots of questions for the waiter. All those questions were answered with great patience by the server, Scott. It was a great experience that I would recommend to anyone. Lots of great food, free coffee/tea refills, the list goes on. There was so much to eat that we could finish the deserts so took them home in a box. The settings is grand and elegant but also very relaxing and welcoming. So, in general I'd recommend the experience to everyone and anyone who wants to experience a taste of the good life.
The hotel was in a good location for a stop on the NC500. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. The room we had was very spacious and great for a relaxed stay.
I felt that the place was slightly understaffed. But everyone was very helpful.
Very welcoming staff. Lovely room and quiet. Restaurant staff friendly and food perfectly gooed and presented.
The other dining area has no doors and the noise from that room was distracting and conversation at our table stopped because we couldn’t hear each other.
Great hotel with fab staff and food. Great location also. Good price and well worth a stay here. Excellent
Position and breakfast.
The room was dark and hot.
Property was great. Joyce was extremely welcoming. Our room was comfortable and relaxing.
The service at the Curing Yard was excellent for breakfast. We felt it was considerably less attentive for dinner.
Rather a mixed review for this hotel but slightly disappointing for the price. We were welcomed extremely well when arriving at the hotel. The receptionist was very helpful, efficient at checking us in to both the rooms we’d booked. We were then asked if we’d like fresh milk for our tea/coffee making facilities in the room. We said yes, so along with a flask of milk for both, we were shown to our rooms. The rooms were fairly well appointed and the bathrooms were spotlessly clean. The shower was powerful. The tea/coffee making facilities were perfect along with 4 freshly baked shortbread biscuits. Both rooms were set up as twins despite double rooms being booked so that was a little disappointing. The lighting in the room didn’t offer an option to have it brightly lit, a personal dislike of mine but certainly a personal choice. The pictures throughout the hotel added to the overall experience. The whole hotel was decorated in blue paints. The fire doors throughout the hotel were noisy and banged when people went through the throughout the evening and night which led to a little disruption to sleep. The food was excellent, both for the evening meal and breakfast that we had. There appeared to be a slight lack of staff for the evening meal which led to service feeling slow and disjointed. The restaurant was well appointed and welcoming. Along with the slow service in the evening, the drink service during the meal was even slower. We had to ask for two drinks 3 times over a twenty minute period before they were eventually they arrived - unfortunately, even then one of them was completely wrong. The location of the hotel is delightful and perfect for our needs. There appeared to be numerous electric car charging points currently being installed so that will be very helpful in the near future. The staff team were pleasant and the lady on reception was extremely helpful. Overall, this stay didn’t quite match the expectation of the price tag, but we would give this venue another try in the future.
Really lovely
A hotel that is beautifully located. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional. Our room was adequate but I expected better for what we paid. We had a view of a corrugated roof. Service in the restaurants was very slow. The food was good but by the time it came we didn’t feel hungry any more. Not sure I’d revisit unless these issues were addressed.
Very warm and welcoming stay with our little dog Ted who the staff made a serious fuss over. A very inviting reception lounge typical of a lovely old house. Comfy bed, clean room and shower room. Well presented breakfast with excellent food options ranging from cereals continental, fruit and cooked.
The property was a lovely Victorian building, large rooms and tastefully decorated
Liked everything
V good location for us, great breakfast & really friendly staff, bar was excellent
TV’s in the room didn’t work? But that was minor as was not in the room that much
Nice welcome and clean room.
Expensive for a glass of wine £11.50
Lovely hotel, but room not what was promised, and the food was very, very, below par. The hotel itself is an amazing building and the staff were clearly working very hard. But the food???? I ordered a risotto, wouldn't be surprised if the rice was from an Ambrosa tin. It was truly awful. Some stuff that was served as haggis was the most unusual haggis I've ever encountered. All very poor to be honest.
Very elegant building with overworked staff and food that does not live up to expectations.
Paying £250 for one night in what was pictured as a stunning room and then discovering that the image was randomly associated to the description of the room
Very clean, bed so comfortable. Staff were great.
Nothing was perfect for us.
Lovely hotel, great location. Staff were all very friendly and helpful
Nothing
Beautiful hotel, well maintained, quality, nice bar
We got booked in disabled room, less comfortable, mirror and taps too low.
Great beachside location. Dinner and breakfast fine. Comfortable room. Easy drive from Inverness airport.
It was all fine.
location was great, Loved the ambience of the hotel check out and morning staff were genuine and engaging
Felt on arrival the staff were not so genuine and welcoming as other hotels. He was going through the motions. Resturant service at dinner and breakfast kept forgetting us and not as attentive. Most of all I was disappointed that there was no bagpipe playing! (I was told by a friend it was at breakfast) .
Public rooms were smartly decorated
Very overpriced with misleading description - no sea view or sounds as that’s a walk away with steep/uneven access. The expensive junior suite was right at the back through numerous and noisy fire doors, totally unsuitable for people with access limitations. Stained and scratched desk, flies in ceiling lights, many chips on paintwork, mould on shower seals. Standard double bed - not large. View of building works - with no warning or compensation. Food was OK but also very overpriced. Sea too far away to be seen or heard from hotel. Service charge applied even if you buy a drink from the bar and carry it yourself!
The most disappointing stay of our week-long tour around Scotland and Northumberland. Expectations were high given the price and description, but were dashed on seeing the Junior Suite right at the back of the hotel, accessed via numerous and noisy fire doors, making it a very bad choice for those with walking difficulties. The first thing we saw was a scruffy, stained and scratched desk…then a view of building work in the car park. Then scuffs on the dark and rather oppressive paintwork, flies in the ceiling lamps (so easy to sort!) and black mould on the shower screen seals. Bed didn’t feel like a ‘large double’ and only had a skylight, complete with scruffy and difficult to use blind. Even the bedroom tv cables were messy. Paying a premium for this felt like an insult. Food at dinner was ok (excellent cullen skink, overcooked venison) but also expensive for what it was. Breakfast and toiletries were good, although watch out for service charges which are applied even if you get your own drink from the bar! You can’t see the sea from this marine hotel - most of the rooms overlook the car parks and one couple in our party had the joyful sight and smell of open bins right next to their window! Staff friendly enough and the beach, if you are reasonable abled bodies to access it, is stunning. Overall though this was a real disappointment and not worthy of the bill.
Great feel, airy, comfortable and clean
Nothing really, well the pool wasn’t open.
Very stylish hotel and full of character. Food was largely excellent despite a few minor blemishes.
No view at the rear
Kostenloses Parken vorm Hotel
Lovely hotel, impressive accommodation, warm and friendly welcome. Excellent location, less than a ten minute walk from the train station, the beach and the golf course.
We stayed a night here at this dog friendly hotel at the first stop on the NC500. A lovely hotel with a very friendly and helpful receptionist. We ate at the nearby Golf Club, but breakfast at the hotel was very good.
Great location for golf at Brora and nice view from our room over the river. Food was good, need was good, shower was good.
Location and available
Service charge on restaurant and bar
We’ve stayed before and were keen to go back. This is a dog friendly hotel that still gives the humans a gorgeous art deco vibe and lovely big bedrooms. The staff are great and very helpful. This time we were disappointed in the menu and this had previously been a highlight so I’ve knocked off a star but I’d still be keen to go back.
