Chaokoh Phi Phi Hostel

Great and very clean hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff.

They are just trying to find ways to fleece the tourists. They tell you that check out time is 11.00 am and you are surprised because check in is like all other hotels- 2.00 pm but check out is earlier. Why?? Because no morning activity in phi phi island finishes by 11 so u are bound to get late and if u check out at 12- they will forcefully and very rudely keep the 500 bhat cash security deposit they forced you to pay (even though u have paid for room by credit card and all international hotels just pre-authorise the card as security). They are just making sure that they earn 500 bhats more from you. Why not increase your room rent only by 500 bhat and have a normal check out time- coz no one will pay extra for rooms where the towels are old and smelly- right!!!! Only good part- all the bell boys are very helpful and courteous. But the ladies at reception- sweet and smiling when u come in, but when u check out and they don’t want to return your deposit- so so rude. When we were leaving for our activity in the morning- we surrendered one room (we had booked 2), told them luggage is lying packed in second room, we will just pick it when we come back. She said- check out is at 11, I said- I understand and we will be back as soon as activity finishes. No mention that an extra 500 bhat will be deducted if you are even half an hour late. On returning- they simply do not return the deposit and say that this is mentioned in the paper u signed when u checked in (well, when we checked in at 6.00 pm previous day, it was raining cats and dogs and we and our whole luggage was drenched and we were so cold and worried about the kids getting into the room fast- so excuse me if we did not read each and every word of that stupid paper u made us sign 😡). Left with a “bad taste in the mouth” feeling. This was the only place in our whole Thailand trip- which gave us that feeling.

The property is in a great location, very close to shops and the main pier. The room is decent but allows a lot of mosquitos to come in some how. The shower has no hot water and the drainage in the shower is terrible. There lobby is open to the outdoor which gets hot and humid checking in or out. It’s an ok property but I’d tried a different place before coming back. The mosquitos are a huge problem.

Great location. Lots of dining and shopping near by. Only a short walk to the pier.

N/a

The staff and the location.

Their construction work was going on which was a bit hassle.

it was central to everything close to pier for the ferry service staff was great

Im writing this review here as they are soooo out of date and the photos are too. Go to their website for better more modern photos. It's a good location IF and I say IF you want to be in the centre of all the noise and hub hub. You are very near and just across from the Tonsai pier beach nearby and it's very busy and lots of shops and cafes right next to you. Thats fine if you want that, if you dont, do not stay here and go a bit further round the corner. Its probably one of the best hotels being central as many are just not very nice. The rooms are big and clean but the water stinks. I couldnt quite believe it when I put the tap on and felt uncomfortable even washing my hands in it. At check in you do feel you are a naughty backpacker - I was checking into the normal hotel. Had to sign things and give deposits in case I lost, damaged ( probably stole too ) anything...only allowed one small pool towel and had to sign in and sign out for it. The astroturf around the pool was boiling hot. It felt very strange as wasn't used to that kind of tone but hey if they have a young backpacking crew just in the hostel section of the hotel, I get it. Room and facilities very basic so dont think you're gonna have a luxury experience. The room I had was on the ground floor and had large trees outside it that had rainbow colour luminous lights on ALL night. Right outside my room. Glaring in and thank god the curtains were OK otherwise I wouldn't have been able to sleep. Very off-putting and no need to have them right outside a window. So to conclude, if you request a quiet room and ensure you get one far at the back of the location, you should be fine, its a good basic hotel in the centre with more guarantee it won't be so loud but in high season be prepared. Ideal fo 2 night but would not stay for a week's holiday. Go stay round the corner at Andaman legacy or even up to Long beach area for the real Phi Phi vibes.

Location and view

The bathroom are not in a good location and there are just 4

Excellent location, facilities are fine

Location was awesome right on beach

Definitely not worth the $343/night they charge for a simple and outdated room. It is in a great location, however, the condition of the property, rude staff , and terrible breakfast make it a waste of money.

Location. Staff. Ferry and boat booking onsite.

Bathrooms could use a renovation. No privacy curtain on bed (not a big issue).

Too noisy

Location was just out of the busy part but still very close to it. .Amazing views. Close to ferry and lots of good restaurants. Beds really good for a hostel. Ac good. Plenty of showers. Nice crowd. Good price.

Noise at beach bar goes to 1am each night. Which is fine if you are happy to go to sleep at or after that time.

Good location

No privacy Toilets and showers stink lots of insects in the hostel and on the beds, one bedbug was found on the pillow of one of the girls in the room ,terrible

The staff were friendly, good location- this is all

No curtains on beds, as a female I was put into a men’s room, me and my boyfriend have both got bitten alive whilst staying there so possibly bedbugs or mosquito infestation. Toilets unclean

Amazing spot on the quieter side of island. Super comfy bed and lovely staff

Close to everything

Very expensive and the facilities are very old. Would not recommend for the price.

Was very good location and nice view window for the ladies dormitory/ The bed was very comfortable and was good size mattress

The mix toilet and shower was not separate and was all the way out from the room.

The personal is really nice.

Situated on a noisy street. The music from bars is loud during the night.

Location is great. Staff are amazing. Beds are super comfortable

Beautiful hotel, comfy beds! Enjoyed the pool/bar.

Good location Very old hotel with reasonable service of the staff. Salty and unstable water in the shower Wouldn’t come back to this hotel in the future

This is a stunning hotel ideally located on Phi Phi for all the pubs and restaurants and the walk to the viewpoint. Room was stunning and spotless clean. Nice pool with plenty of sunbeds and bar always staffed with happy hour. Never had breakfast in hotel but would definitely recommend. It’s about a 5/10 minute walk from ferry with cases make sure you have wifi for directions or get one of the guys at ferry to take cases it can be a trek if you take wrong turning and get lost but worth it.

It was a run down 3 star hotel. Very loud. The beds are hard the pillows are hard. It’s more of a 2 star.

Located close to the pier this hotel is easy to get to as you have to carry your own luggage from the pier. The hotel is very beautiful, grounds are kept clean as are communal areas. Upon checking in I was surprised at the lack of warmth or welcome from the reception staff who checked us in Nothing was explained and a basic formality was completed Our room was very nice and overlooked the gardens. Within a few hours we realised the air conditioning was not working properly as the room was very hot despite the AC being on for a few hours. The reception staff weren't very helpful and we waited ages for someone to come & check it. Apparently it hadn't been working properly yet they still checked us in. There were no apologies or solution to our problem. My husband asked to move rooms and we were shown 2 rooms which did not meet our approval. Finally we found a suitable room where the AC worked. Breakfast was a lovely buffet style located on the beach. The staff are not friendly at all with barely a smile let alone any hello or conversation. In our room my husband and I were bitten by mosquito's and we had to kill at least 10. I don't know how so many were able to enter our room but I advise guests to buy repellent. The pool are is very nice. It's quiet at first in the morning but does tend to get busy later in the morning. At first sight this seems a great hotel but I would not stay again. The staff need to be trained in how to be sociable to guests and make them feel welcome.

Amazing spot. Great location.

Excellent location, many restaurants around the place and staffs were super friendly.

Coming to a small island it’s obvious not to expect incredibly lavish accommodations but at a higher level for the cost of those on the island, I would expect more than offered. Have 500 bath available as security deposit for the room key. The good is that it is fairly centrally located and not too far of a walk from the pier. The bad: the beds are hard which makes it difficult if you’ve had surgery. I booked two of the exact same rooms but was given one of lower quality and just told it’s the same when it was smaller and didn’t have the same balcony. The building leaked so the entire stairs and walkway to the room door was covered in water. There is no hot water, only luke warm at the hottest setting and the water you get is salt water so not exactly a clean feeling. Not sure if that’s all hotels on the island or not though. I kept losing power due to loose/shoddy wiring that they basically pieces back together with tape and bubble gum so never truly fixed it. They seem more worried about putting out their price lists for every possible thing you can touch and overcharging in the restaurant. The restaurant is on the beach but there are no available chairs like there are further down the beach at other locations. I’ve slept in worse places but also in far better even in more remote locations. Bottom line is there are better options available on the island at multiple price points. I checked out early and left due to the issues (of course no refund is given).

We have been to Phi Phi four times now and have actually stayed at this hotel THREE times - 2018, 2022 and most recently 2024 - just a few days ago. We re-booked because the first two times here was good and suited our needs. I am unsure why this hotel has bad reviews. To be honest, we actually thought the hotel this time was better than previous trips because the hotel rooms look like they have had a bit of a makeover. Check in was fine. No problems. Pool is good. Location is awesome (best thing about the hotel!) I would say the following - we have travelled all over the world and you need to lower expectations a little in Thailand. It’s not like the Caribbean or even Europe. 5 star in a Thailand beach resort is not like 5 star in Mexico or even Tokyo - even Bangkok. The hotels can be a bit rustic. We have only stayed here for one night in each occasion so understand if you are doing a week on Phi Phi you may need more but you must realise you’re on a little cut-off island. The rooms are a tad basic and the water form the shower is salty (as another guest observed) but as a place to bed for the night or two, you really can’t go wrong. Our kids (15 and 11) enjoyed an hour in the pool and the room was more than enough for us to crash and then enjoy the islands night life and also a long tail boat the day after. You can catch a boat trip literally outside the hotel for a reasonable price and all other amenities like shops, bars and restaurants are within walking (or crawling!) distance. We will be back!

Amazing hotel at the center of the fun!

Not a great experience, very very basic resort however the worst experience was when you opened the room door, the room stunk from the minute you opened the door, when we complained to the hotel staff we were told it was to do with the air con and to switch it off which made no difference at all, made me feel sick. Beds were very hard but that’s down to each individual’s preference. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. I have been travelling for 35 years and this must be the worst so far, not a great experience of a beautiful island, yes Phi Phi is a beautiful island but please choose another hotel.

Unique vibe, close to the pier, yet far enough to relax

Great location, the hotel was very nice and within walking distance of everything.

Beautiful hotel, nice location slightly outside the Center of town so it was less busy. Pool was great and staff were helpful

The mattress is hard, there is no current in the shower, the water is salty in the shower and in the sink, the bathroom smelled of sewage, the only advantage of this hotel is that it is close to the center of things and everything is a few minutes' walk away.

right in the center of all the fun. pool was perfect and rooms were comfortable

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff. Our favorite place we’ve stayed so far.

Do not recommend staying here, unfortunately. The tap water for showering and washing hands was salty and not pleasant at all. There was a very bad smell (like rotten eggs) outside as we walked from our room to reception every day to go to the main strip. Got bitten 11 times throughout the night in the bed by mosquitoes. No laundry washing facilities, or laundry services on site either. Pool is nice, So much potential for this hotel but still a wee way to come. The room was nice to stay in and very roomy, and location is great but the cons of staying here, took over the positives.

The smell in the bathroom was terrible. When I asked them to address it they agreed that a smell was coming through air conditioning but only sprayed the room. The air conditioning kept turning off. The pool does not look like the one in the photos. The grounds needed some work. There was no personal touch the room had lists of what not to do. On a positive note, the room Was quiet despite being in the centre area.

Would not honour VIP, No upgrade and no deal on breakfast. Poor. Other than that nice quiet place

Great location and comfortable room

Everything

Can’t complain as understood the circumstances everything gets imported into the island. they made our stay as comfortable as possible.

Very nice helpful staff with comfortable beds!

Nothing much

Right on the beach

I had to climb stairs to get to my room

Grounds were nice, great location too! Pool also nice although busy so best to go early to grab a bed. Nice food by the pool, reception accommodating Downsides, beds were rock hard and we had 3 cockroaches in our room in the space of an evening :( rooms we had could also do with a bit of a refresh.

Not a bad hotel - the room was large bathroom good size.Deco slightly dated. The room was reasonable equipped even had a kettle. Balcony was nothing to write home about. The beds were comfortable, could have done with extra pillows. The room servicing time was 2-6pm which was excellent Staff good

Clean and good location

There is a bar downstairs that doesn’t stop playing loud music until 2am everyday. You cannot get to sleep until it finishes because it is so loud.

Great location

Very laud music next door through late night, lots of mosquitos,,bathrooms and showers shared by unisex

Clean , good beds

Is a little noisy at night

Location

Lovely staff, easy to find, close to everything.

Some evenings late music from the pub next door.

good pool and bar area. aircon bad in rooms' had to get free villa upgrade. had baby was not cold. nice staff. for price hotel should be better standard. ok location.

It s better than Ibiza house i ve slept well , good location , Nice staff

We could Hear the music from the restaurant next to the hostel

I was surprised to like this place. I booked late and this was the last reasonable option but it actually turned out to be pretty decent. The bed was comfy, the room was kept nice and cold at 23°C. Bathrooms were pretty good, and always clean. I loved the location. It’s on the more chill side of the island so you could actually get a good nights sleep and since phi phi is so small it was only about a 7 minute walk to the crazy side that had super loud music and fire shows until 3am. In the morning there was always fresh bakery items for breakfast such as muffins, scones, pastry wrapped sausages, and donuts.

If I could add one thing it would be curtains on the beds. I also wish the bathrooms were connected to the room but they were fine and always clean.

Wholesome and homey!

location

noise party at night

good location

extremely loud music playing at the bar next door all night

the location

sometimes they give you different prices on the tours depends of the person in charge

good location and comfy beds. right next to a bar so can be loud until 12-1ish but other than that it’s good. would stay here again

a bit loud if you want to sleep early

Location is central so it's good to move everywhere on the island, bed was comfy, respectful people in the dorm. Clean bathrooms

Got there because of a last minute booking. Loud music from the beach bar next door,, it was ok for me but it depends on you. The common area was not great at all.. nowhere to chill eventhough there is a good space to make something nice. Not really a social hostel, more like just a place to sleep. One of the ladies at the reception was stuck on her phone the whole time, didn't even notice when I tried 2 times to tell her goodbye when I left. I felt like I was disturbing her when I had questions. Quite expensive for the size of the dorm (12 people if I remember well. Not precised on Booking, by the way).. business is business I guess ?

"cheap" for Koh phi phi, good location on a small island, not much noise from outside.

Small shared room, not very secure if you don't use the locker as everything is open, very high price for the quality of the place.

located infront of a bar so it’s impossible to sleep before 3am. Booking shows the hotel and not the hostel so you basically pay for something and no security what so over. Most of the staff are sweet but the main girl at the front desk is extremely rude and always on her phone

Location was 5 mins away from pier! And the scenery from the hostel and dorm are stunning! Really good nights sleep

Could be cleaner, and music late from bar across but actually put some headphones on fell asleep fine!

accommodation was good and clean with good air con. a bit basic but fine for what we needed!

no locks on doors so it is open, and no water to top up overnight. you don’t get much for your money in Phi Phi so it served it’s purpose

Beds were comfortable. close to a lot of bars and shops

There is a bar outside which plays music until 2am. If you want a good nights sleep I recommend staying elsewhere. Mouldy Showers

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. They were really accommodating when it came into getting us into our room a little bit early since we had an excursion in the afternoon. The room was spacious and we enjoyed spending time at the pool. It's located right in the middle of town (which is small) so everything is a 5 min walk.

Great location, not loud but close to town. Clean overall with very comfortable large bunks and very good AC. Friendly staff, good price. Free drinking water and coffee, cakes etc.

The power showers were switched off

Beds, bathroom and towels were clean! Lovely stay!

stayed in the 4 bed dorm. really comfortable bed and nice and cold room thanks to the ac. the toilets and showers were really clean and the hostel in itself was really quiet. the location was really good. close to the beach and the main roads.

outside the hostel there was always loud music until 2am, it’s a bit annoying if you need to sleep early. you have to bring you own lock for the locker.

If your out till 2am perfect hostel, but next to loud bar

location

loud music , dirty , dark , sweaty

nice beds for a good price

it can be very noisy at night

Great location, nice place for solo travellers
