This is a unique ‘heritage home’ with architectural features intact.
Some ‘squeaky’ floorboards made tiptoeing around in the night a challenge. Markdale is a lovely rural town with a friendly community. We really enjoyed our stay.
Great hosting. Comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was very good!
everything was great
Clean and comfortable! Great location and host was nice.
The location is very handy to walk the town.
Friendly with exceptional service.
Julia was wonderful. Very caring and on top of everything. Great location.
Everything was great....
This guest house is very beautifully decorated. The rooms were spacious with large comfortable beds. The coffee/tea/water station was really appreciated. The host was very friendly and kind. We really enjoyed our stay here, which was unfortunately too short. The little town of Markdale is also cute.
Nothing
Location was great. Walker Suite had its own entrance which was convenient. Breakfast was lovely.
Liked everything
The room was spacious, clean and well equipped with an assortment of coffees and teas. The breakfast was good and my wife really enjoyed the home-made yogurt. I enjoyed an omelette on a toasted bagel and a fresh baked croissant. It is a great place to stay if you are visiting Markdale or visiting the Down Home Farm restaurant for a farm-to-table experience.
Sehr charmant alles und schön und gemütlich eingerichtet
Excellent place to stay, host was outgoing and very helpful. Room and bathroom were clean. Breakfast in the morning was wonderful. Walkable to the downtown shops.
Hot water for the shower took awhile, but was fine once it got there.
did not have breakfast. location was perfect for my purpose. warm and friendly greeting and send off by Julia the proprietor. whole building was very quiet. room was large, bright and well appointed. very comfortable bed. adjacent large private bathroom with great shower and amenities. easy to access on site parking. would definitely return here, and recommend highly to others.
The Danby House is a wonderful place and the owners are great too!
We had a wonderful overnight stay at Danby House while we hiked parts of the Bruce Trail. . Julia, the host was so friendly and accommodating. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. The home had a station for all day coffee, a fridge and microwave, etc. Our room and bathroom were so cozy and relaxing. Highly recommend if you are in the area!
The host is lovely. She makes sure that she can accommodate all our needs. Thumbs up to cleanliness and breakfast.
Charmante maison, propre et confortable
Rien, c est bien comme endroit
The property was easy to find and accessible. The room very clean and the bed was quite comfortable. The bathroom was spotless. Everything was quite comfortable for our stay. They upgraded us the day before to a kig room and it came with a small kitchenette as well which was great. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and our host was very lovely. The property was very convenient to shops and eateries in Markdale. It is a 5 miniute walk to the main street. We did a little walk in the evening and the streets around the property are very quiet. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Betty & Hamilton
The house felt truly authentic and full of character, with charming decor and a cozy atmosphere. The hosts were exceptionally friendly and made us feel completely at home from the moment we arrived. It was also a perfect base for exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby towns.
Everything was great. We enjoyed staying at this B&B.
Friendly and understanding staff. Gorgeous rooms and amenities.
Absolutely loved our stay at Danby House, a true hidden gem. The entire space is beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and full of thoughtful touches. Our room was spacious and incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was fully equipped and pristine. The whole house has an inspiring, welcoming atmosphere, and the hosts were exceptionally kind. It’s rare to find a place that combines charm, comfort, and such careful attention to detail.
Lo sky comfortable room
Breakfast being an additional extra in a Bed and Breakfast
A homey atmosphere and very helpful for our needs. We enjoyed our stay there. Thanks
I stayed here for one night because the highway home was closed due to bad weather. 10/10 would stay here again. Very cozy place in a very grand old house. Julie was very welcoming and wanted to ensure my utmost comfort. Highly recommend!
If you are ever in Markdale you need to stay at Danby House.
..
Very welcoming and comfortable accommodations. Lots of amenities. Loved the coffee machine in the room. Because coffee. Coffee coffee. Sorry. Addicted. Back to the review: Julia is a wonderful hostess. Victorian style house is very beautiful. Breakfast was delicious, especially the croissants.
Very friendly host. Well kept heritage property.
Lovely people
Such a beautiful house and the hosts were so nice and accomodating. The location is great for getting to the surrounding areas for hiking and restaurants if you have a car.
Great location, clean, nice bed, great bathroom. Lovely house. Wonderful hosts. Excellent breakfast.
Nothing.
The bathroom was super clean, tidy and confortable
The house was heavy decorated, with a lot of things. The bathroom was outside the room.
Loved the century home with all of its unique qualities throughout. The beautiful high ceilings, the high baseboards and original wooden floors along with the original stained glass window in the stair well. The host was very polite and gracious. I would definitely stay here again just loved the home.
Beautifully renovated historical home. Lovely host. Delicious breakfast.
Would have been helpful to know that breakfast had extra fee if booked through booking.com rather than directly with BnB
Location was excellent for us.
Host was very pleasant, responsive, and accomodations were quiet. She offered an unexpected upgrade which was lovely.
A little pricey and was a bit hard to find.
The location.
Nothing, everything was good!
Great places to eat within walking distance.
The room was clean and comfortable. The host was was amiable and provided a wonderful, hot breakfast. I would highly recommend this for your stay in the area.
The owner was very friendly. The house is beautiful and old, lots of character

Breakfast was amazing
Room was extremely hot! We texted the host no reply...but overall was acceptable
Amazing and unusual breakfastsa
Comfortable and clean facility. Everything I required was in my room. I had to leave early for work each morning and was given a healthy breakfast plate the night before so that I didn't miss out.
Nice clean place , friendly owners , would definitely recommend this place
The Danby house is a perfectly maintained old Ontario Victorian home with a wonderful proprietor and great breakfast.
No complaints.
A lovely stay. Warm, hospitable accommodations. Will be staying here again!
Beautiful home and room. My host was lovely and I would absolutely recommend to friends and family.
The breakfast was incredible! All fresh and homemade. The host was super lovely and ensured our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. We had a great time!
Our Hostess aka Julia as an absolute GEM. We loved our stay and most delicious breakfast and company. Thanks with GRATITUDE.....
Nice outdoor sitting areas.
This is a hidden gem in Markdale. I stayed for business four nights. The room was clean and elegant, with a slight rustic feel due to the high ceilings, high windows and wood casings. The ceiling fan over the bed is amazing with remote control. The kitchenette was stocked with coffee, tea, cream and cups, cutlery and dishes. The bed - Oh my!! Wonderful! I felt like melted cheese in this plush pillow topped king mattress with an extra blankie I slept like a baby. (yes I slept in a few days) The bathroom was modern, yet rustic and elegant with a chandelier! It was perfectly functional with a nightlight; I have one in my travel bag so this was nice. Do note the sink is low, so a short guy like me loved it. The entry to the room was keyless and easy. The breakfast was fit for a king. I took a photo of it and sent to my project team; my pronoun for today is "King of Markdale" you shall address me. Julia is a kind and gracious host who will customize your breakfast for you. Ask for the crepes, you will enjoy them I promise, with real maple syrup. Breakfast is offered at 8:00 or 9:00 so she can get the kiddoes off to school between those times. 9AM too late? ask for breakfast to go or just sleep in like I did and have it at 9AM then you will feel so much better. I would go back there again for sure; I just may find a "business reason" to do so. :)
I did need to work for an entire day on my computer in the room so the kitchen-style chair was a bit tough; but what idiot spends an entire day in their room? I rest my point lest I identify as one. The locked door going to the main home kitchen you could hear activity on the other side during the day and at mealtimes. Being used to quiet hotels as a business traveler and once upon a time having younger children this was a reminder of what my kids were like. Quiet time was 9PM onwards.
Nice location. Lovely home. Friendly and helpful host. Superb breakfast.
Beautiful historic house very tastefully decorated. The host was great and the breakfast a treat. We travelled with two small children and felt very welcomed by the host.
Nothing
I am not a breakfast eater, but what was served looked ok. I did enjoy the fresh peaches.
The room was hot, but if I opened the window the traffic was noisy from unexpectedly busy highway. A shade on the window above the door would keep out the light from the hallway. It would be a good idea to replace the piece of carpet outside the shower with a fresh bathmat
Pleasant clean room. Lovely host and delicious breakfast.
Roku TV difficult to access for news broadcasts. Access into house and out of house more complicated than usual - glad owner was there to assist.
The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The house is beautiful and spotless. The breakfast is excellent. It was a wonderful experience! I would come again!
Liked the decor, the room was wonderful, owner very pleasant. Comfortable and relaxed
Lovely premises, Great breakfast Host very good
Nothing
The breakfast was excellent. Plenty to eat & very tasty. Our hostess made sure we had everything we could need, while engaging us with pleasant conversation. Lovely home.
The owner was very proud of her property and provided breakfast. This place was beautiful and well kept. I recommend it highly.
very well maintained Victorian home in the traditional style of small town Ontario
No complaints
The breakfast was great. The location was close to where I needed to be.
Julia is an amazing host! The Danby House was so cozy, clean and welcoming. The house is beautifully decorated and you feel like home as soon as you step in. To emphasize just few things that we liked about this B&B: very comfortable sitting areas in the backyard, and indoor, as well. There was plenty of coffee, tea, and water bottles in the room. The breakfast table was impressive: very healthy and tasty food, nicely arranged on the table. Julia also offered recommendations for things to do in the area. We really enjoyed our stay here and definitely planning to come back
We loved staying at Danby House and we are already planning a return trip. Our room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We could open the window (always a plus). Everything was very clean and well thought out to ensure guest comfort. Outside the rooms on the second floor there was a coffee/tea station alongside a refrigerator where we could store personal items. Downstairs there was a comfortable lounge area beside the dining room where we went for breakfast which we could have at either 8 or 9 am. Breakfast when we stayed there consisted of yogurt and granola with fruit, juice, tea and coffee, toasted bagels, delicious croissants, and light fluffy omelets. Our hostess was very friendly and welcoming. Parking was right beside the house. WIFI was good.
Nothing
Very tastefully done decor, more hotel-feel to it. Has lots of character and perfect for just a stopover for the night. Lots of amenities provided. Really like the free-to-take complimentary bar. Breakfast lovingly prepared by the owner, hearty.
Nothing.
Awesome Hosts and a wonderful getaway. The room was very comfortable and Julia our host did everything to make our stay enjoyable (including a delicious breakfast!) Our only complaint was with Expedia - after booking they did not send us important check in details (like the code to the door), but Julia helped us out. Highly recommend!
Our host was charming and helpful, and the beautiful brick home was cozy and warm in the freezing weather. We enjoyed walking to a good restaurant that was in the neighborhood.
Very nice set up. Easy access. Comfortable pl lace.
Well maintained heritage property. Host was extremely helpful and accommodating.
Julia was incredibly welcoming!! She prepared a special breakfast for my daughter and sent her on her way with great encouragement for her competition and a special snack that fuel her through the day !
Julia and her husband Greg where very friendly and helpful! Definitely would recommend anyone to stay there! We would go back if we are ever up that way again.
We liked very much the excellent breakfast that was being served. We also appreciated the personal touch from the lady of the house. We appreciated the free coffee and pleasant conversations with the lady of the house. This B&B has also a nice historical touch and is well maintained.
Nothing specific.
A delightful stay in this historic home. Very welcoming
We stayed in the Walker Suite (King Bed, Private Entrance). Overall we quite liked our spacious and comfortable room. Welcoming and cozy, well suited to our 2 day stay. Proprietor was very friendly and accommodating. One word of caution about our room was that it is adjacent to the kitchen/dining area. We didn't find it too disturbing but we certainly heard some of the activity from there. If you're a late sleeper you may want to pack your ear plugs. We'd definitely stay again in both this room and in this house.
We had to leave early, so the hostess gave us a breakfast to eat on the road. Very helpful. Location was good - easy to find and convenient to our destination in Flesherton.
