Everything was brilliant.
Staff was excellent. Breakfast was good and served hot. The pub had a great vibe for locals and tourists on a Friday evening. We enjoyed the rural setting for walks.
The room was hot and decor (Rugs and Carpets) stained. Ran out of hot water in morning.
The staff
It was a heat wave and the windows did not open and there was a fan that did not cut the mustard to keep us and the room cool at all
Lovely clean property, with super staff. Nice location, lovely food.
Bed was super comfy. Only thing that impacted our sleep was that another guest had a radio on throughout the night - this was heard in our room and kept us awake unfortunately
Very comfy room and very good beer!
Menu a little limitted but not a problem. Very good breakfast.
Large clean rooms. Great food
Perfect location

A lovely location and enjoyed our food
The room was very warm due to the heat wave
Lovely rooms with a coffee pod machine, water and a wonderful breakfast and secure and access for coming back at night
Great customer service. The guy running the place was fantastic and we always felt very well looked after.
The mattress needed changing.
What an absolute gem in the Cotswolds. We loved our two-night stay at The Horse and Groom in Charlton. The quaint room in the loft was incredible, featuring an enormous bathroom packed with amenities, a super comfortable bed and gorgeous field views. Breakfast was a highlight. A generous breakfast freshly cooked to order each morning with piping hot coffee. But the team running the pub truly made the trip. The staff checked on us constantly and the fantastic manager went above and beyond to help us travel to meet relatives staying at Winkworth Farm, nearby. Peaceful, welcoming and deeply comfortable. I highly recommend
Nothing. Everything was great.
Very traditional pub with nice rooms. Having stayed here on quite a few occasions over the last five years, I knew exactly what to expect and, again, it didn’t disappoint!
Great location.. lovely staff.. great breakfasts
A little pricey for the area
Great atmosphere, a Real country pub, locals, guests mixing together. Food was excellent.staff friendly and very relaxed ,

Beautiful pub, amazing food and very comfortable and clean rooms. Very good location for exploring that part of the country...Stonehenge, Bath, Costwolds...
The room was beautiful. Great pub with lovely food
Lovely facilities, gorgeous room and the staff and food were great. Highly recommend.
Good staff and building had character.
staff were friendly
Although we asked for a GF breakfast due to my allergy they couldn't guarantee cross contamination which was ok. The hotel then offered a refund for breakfasts not taken....great. But because my original credit card had been replaced they couldn't refund via booking.com. They said they would organise refund and NOT too worry but todate no refund ( 4 weeks later). Talked with Booking.com who advised they couldn't do anything need to go back to hotel, but no answer to emails or texts. I guess this is called "passing the buck". this is such a simple request that both parties are making into a nightmare. Come on Booking.com do your duty and fix.
The friendly staff, and locals Good breakfast Proximity to Badminton Estate - RHS Badminton visit
Rooms need a refurb, structural really - window frames, bath panels showing age related defects
Lovely setting, great service, room was spotless and would definitely stay again, and also had a lovely breakfast
Nothing to dislike
Staff very friendly and helpful Good location Comfortable room
More non cooked options for breakfast would be welcome
Nice old pub
System meant we were treated as though we were about to do a runner any minute even though we staying two nights. We were asked to pay for breakfast (poor) as soon as we’d eaten. Not willing to put it in eventual bill
A lovely inn situated in a small pretty village not far from Malmesbury. Plenty parking. Staff were great. Friendly and helpful. Lovely room with attractive outlook. Plenty space, comfortable bed, good shower, hot drinks, fridge etc. Breakfast was excellent.
I suspect the plumbing needs a bit of clearing out as water was slow to drain.
The breakfast was poor, no cereal, fruit, yogart only something cooked which we did not want. We had a boiled egg with white toast having asked for brown. The coffee was grim as was the orange juice. The property was very shabby - the outside paint work was in very poor condition
Love the location and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble, even supplying a fan for the room in 30 degrees heat and extra water. Staffing was short owing to illness but those who we met did everything to make our stay memorable.
Nothing comes to mind
Lovely old property. Rooms nicely furnished and beds comfortable. Staff very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
Our room this time was in the loft area which made it exceptionally hot and airless with cramped access. A bit disappointed as I had book this 7 months ago and paid more than last year so had assumed I would get a nicer room. Evening menu was limited which I hadn’t realised.
The property was in excellent condition, lovely decor and in a great location to drive to all the beautiful villages. The breakfast was excellent and great value for money , all the staff were very helpful & the new owner/ manager Aldo was so friendly nothing was too much trouble .
Nothing
There were no rooms for us when we arrived. So cannot recommend this hotel
The fact that there were no rooms for us
Very good breakfast. Large room and very large bathroom.
Despite the very large bathroom, the shower cubicle was rather small. Very loud talking/shouting in the bar below our room on first night, but it did stop before 11.30pm.
Beautiful quaint accommodation. Sympathetically restored to a high standard. Quirky and quaint. Plenty of parking. Large bedrooms, fantastic breakfast and really nice staff, especially the young lady that looked after us at breakfast.
The bath! It was huge and you needed a ladder to get in in order to have a shower
Great location, comfortable & clean rooms.
Double bed a little small but nothing else
Prachtige oude pub vol met sfeer. Vriendelijk personeel, fijn bed en gezellige sfeervolle kamer. Alles schoon!
We hadden de zolderkamer . Was hitte golf, code rood.
Nothing
We were cancelled the evening before our arrival by email because of a double booking
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Its location, and our room was beautiful and comfortable
Nothing apart from it was rather a long wait for breakfast after being asked to come down at a set time. The breakfast and previous evening meal were very good.
All of it. This 17th(?) century inn set in a quiet village in rural Wiltshire was a perfect overnight stay for us. The bar and restaurant were lively on our Sunday afternoon arrival and it seemed to be a popular meeting place with the local folk. We heard lots of talk of farming! Our room was spacious and comfortable and the ample breakfast was cooked to order. Well worth another stay when we are next in the area.
Nothing
Lovely country Pub with Restaurant and rooms. Our room was large and comfortable with a roll top bath and proper shower fitting in the bathroom. The staff were very welcoming. All in all a great place to stay when touring in Wiltshire
Nice country pub
We were allocated one if the second floor bedrooms for our stay, but conditions were not great due to the current heat-wave. We were provided with a fan, but this did not have the capacity to cool the room sufficiently during the current extreme conditions - I don’t think this would have been an issue under “normal” conditions.
Lovely old pub , food was lovely . Staff were very attentive and friendly
It was a very hot weekend , no water in fridge (actually nothing in the fridge in room). There was a coffee pod machine but no coffee pods, no soya or almond of milk at breakfast . Only minor issues but when you pay £180 for a room you expect this…
Good base for exploring the southern Cotswolds. Really lovely traditional coaching inn , with lots of character. Room really nice, good size, very clean and comfortable, had everything you could need including a fridge and great wifi. Please note quite steep steps to rooms. Food was really good, choice of cooked breakfasts with hot and cold drinks, evening meals were also very nice, definitely recommend booking a table in advance. Staff were amazing, very polite and friendly, especially Shane who couldn’t help us enough. Will definitely stay again.
Nothing.
Lovely hosts, great service, very good Sunday lunch.
The Management and Staff at the Horse and Groom Inn were excellent and keen to make our stay there as comfortable as possible. Special mention must go to ‘Libby’ who went to great efforts to ensure our booking was cleared smoothly through Booking.com. The rooms were very clean, well prepared and the bed was very comfortable. All in all 10/10
Nothing
Great team, warm and friendly atmosphere. Simon and his crew look after everyone including the happy locals.
The food and staff were amazing
It was tired and not very clean
It was a convenient location to break our journey and to visit Malmesbury
The room needed some attention, the window on particular, clean the frame! The shower over the bath was ineffective. The menu was very ‘blokey! stodgy with few lighter options. The only fish was fried fish and chips.
The staff and location were perfect. Lots of character.
Shower took a long time to Heat but that's understandable in an old building.
The rooms were beautiful and the bathrooms were massive. The staff were friendly and helpful. Everything was spotlessly clean.
We didnt like being woken up to lawnmowers, strimmers and leaf blowers underneath the window at 7.30am. Waiting an hour until we were getting up for breakfast would be a good compromise. The 'continental' breakfast seemed overpriced when it consisted of a packet of Alpen, a chocolate muffin, a packet of biscuits and a yoghurt. I think the biscuits could be swapped for a piece of fruit and the chocolate muffin could be a home made oat and raisin muffin.
Nice big room and comfy bed.
A bit out of town
Breakfast was OK on Saturday and Sunday, poor on Friday, there was no breakfast chef. Continental breakfast only served Monday to Friday. Staff were helpful and tried very hard, but were inexperienced and could not move me to another room as pub was fully booked.
I paid for a premium room which was confirmed but was given a room which had not been refurbished despite the website photos showing otherwise. This is selling under false pretenses to charge for one thing and deliver something else. The room was shabby, scruffy and smelly. Paintwork was disgusting and the soft furnishings ripped. The curtains did not cover the windows. Basin covered in limescale. Owner confirmed to the manager the room had not been refurbished when she phoned to say I had complained. All guests were evacuated 08:00am Sunday morning because the chefs had spilt oil on the stove and did not know how to turn off the fire alarms. The owner had gone on holiday so was not on the premises despite it being a bank holiday weekend and leaving a young and inexperienced staff in charge. In addition owners were hosting a loud party in a marquee next to the pub on Saturday night which could be heard from the rooms.
Friendly, welcoming staff, great food and comfy rooms
Clean, lots of nice little extras in room. Decor lovely. Quiet at night so slept well.
Nothing to dislike
Nice old hotel a lot of charms Spacious room Restaurant was delicious and very warmly Easy parking
Friendly accommodating staff. Lovely atmosphere
Nothing
Atmospheric traditional pub, pretty and nice interiors throughout with a good buzzing atmosphere during the evening. The food was 10/10 - great quality British food with neat presentation too.
Bedroom way enormous. Staff were superb Really homely feel about the Inn It was a true local pub
Nothing really, perhaps alternative to a fry-up for breakfast
It is in a quiet situation but not far from towns
Nothing it was a typical 200 year old pub
Breakfast was excellent. Great atmosphere - think country pub. Roads in the vicinity were pot holed so drive carefully. Owner could not do enough for his guests; we'll be back.
Nothing comes to mind.
Pulizia approssimativa
BUON PUB E CIBO DISCRETO
LA COLAZIONE NON PUO' INIZIARE DOPO LE 9.00 DI MATTINA
It was in a great location, very comfortable accommodation. The staff were very friendly & the locals were all lovely. Phil and John honestly couldn’t do enough to help and make sure you have a comfortable stay. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
Nothing
Colazione all’inglese preparata sul momento molto buona.
Literally everything 😅 tasty food, comfy bed, nice shower
Honestly I couldn't fault it
Having stayed here on several occasions, we knew what to expect, although the pub had been taken over by Phil and John only days before we arrived. The pub, as far as location goes, is on it's own, but close to Malmesbury. As long as you have transport, you are fine. When we arrived, the pub was very busy with locals who were there to watch the rugby. Neverless, we were greeted by a really friendly young barman and then by John (the co-owner), who served us. We were then checked in by Phil. The pub itself is still the same as it was when we first started staying here approximately five years ago, and this is part of it's charm. We ate here on our first evening, and the food was really good, in fact, better than the last time we stayed, when we felt that the standard of food had gone down. After speaking with Phil, we shared our thoughts regarding the menu. The menu is limited, but, saying this, what is on there is of really good quality and standard, pub grub, but on another level. I wouldn't change a thing on it! Phil mentioned that they may do a specials board at some point, which seems like a good idea. Breakfast was good, although we weren't given a menu. I'm sure that in time, there will be one. We had a good chat with Phil and John, who, as I said, had only taken over the pub a few days before we arrived and had hit the ground running. I think they will do really well. They are two very genuine guys and I'm sure that they will make a real success of the pub. Well done and we wish you all the best for the future. We will return!
The rooms are adequate, clean and tidy, but have not been refurbished since our first stay, approximately five years ago. The bathroom definitely needs a re-fit, but I'm sure this is something that the new owners, Phil and John will consider as time goes on.
The property is a very traditional pub with modern elements. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. You had fresh milk in the handy fridge and proper coffee for the cafetière too! We ate at the pub both nights and the food was delicious! The people are absolutely lovely and nothing is too much trouble. We were unfortunately horribly ill with colds when we stayed and they made sure we had everything we needed and that the cleaning was completed in the short time we left the room. We’d definitely stay again and look forward to finding other pubs that are under the same brand.
Not so much that we didn’t like it but the stairs are steep and narrow (we were in the Avon suite at the very top). The velux window and blind in our bathroom really needs replacing as the blind is mouldy in places and a bit broken. The paint is peeling on the window.
cosy, friendly staff, good food (dinner and breakfast) and all necessary equipment
nothing
The location and price and dinner in the restaurant was superb
It was loud having a room above a pub and I think the room/bathroom could have been cleaner.
We absolutely loved our stay! The location was very charming and typical, with a great atmosphere in the pub. The breakfast and dinner were excellent. The pub itself is beautiful, cozy and animated. The staff were very kind without exception. Our room was very cozy and comfortable.
Lovely old Cotswold building with great charm & character. Comfortable rooms with everything you could want available.
Nothing
Lovely room (the Snug) with comfortable bed and gorgeous decor. Loved the little touches (plants and books and Dyson fan to keep us cool.
Nothing, it was perfect for what we needed.
The staff were so friendly and helpful
.
It was essy to get into Tetbury, the manager gave me directions. All the staff were so pleasant and friendly and very courteous. Breakfasts and evenings meals were very good Staff seemed to go the extra mile to make my stay so good. Would recommend the Horse & Groom and I look forward to staying again. Finally,Kes, the manager was so good and helpful and has a good staff relationship.
A coffee machine would have been lovely and slso maybe a hot choclate drink in the room.
Lovely charming typical Cotswold pub with friendly staff to match. Big room with everything you need provided and really comfy bed. Free parking, good wifi, nice food! Very good value for money!!
The food was excellent although the choices for a vegetarian were a bit limited. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a very good atmosphere. The room(s) were comfortable and the bathroom(s) clean.
The booking system was down and Ambra the manager (her third day in the job) had no idea we were coming but she rallied round and go us sorted. Next issue was problems with the plumbing requiring us to change room, which was up a second flight of stairs, which wasn't the best for my wife. Ross the relief manager gave us a free meal for our troubles, which was appreciated.
A beautiful well kept period building with lovely rooms. The staff were friendly and very accommodating.
Very rural pub, the room was comfortable and large. There was plenty of parking and the staff were very welcoming. We thought the food was good and enjoyed our overnight stay.
