Staff were friendly. Indian food on the menu was really tasty. Nice spacious feel to restaurant and outdoor areas. Tissington Trail can be accessed on foot from the back of the garden.
More info in rooms like when breakfast is served and details on the Tissington Trail
Access to the tissington trail.
Only one chair in the room Asked for another but told none were available. Even though we spotted a stack in the room next to the restaurant
Excellent dinner. Beautifully prepared and presented.
Lovely location right on the tissington trail. Large room, clean ,comfortable, safe parking, delicious breakfast, friendly staff. Restaurant is fantastic and good value for money
The food was superb
nothing was particularly bad
Nice styling. Lovely bar.
The bed was horrendous. The mattress was so awful and cheap. There were springs in our backs and it was like sleeping without one. There was no hairdryer and when asked there wasn’t one available as they are all in the mains in other rooms. You could hear everything outside the room and you could hear the staff were hoovering from 7:45/8am. The room was boiling hot and there was no fan or air on or temperature controls for the room. The cost of the room for 1 night is far too high for what the accommodation was.
Staff were friendly and helpful
Room was small and dark
In a lovely location for great walks
Recently refurbished so the interior was well furnished, in good condition. Food in the restaurant was good and the wine list was excellent, although the reds were expensive.
The breakfast was advertised on Booking.com as being £10 but it actually cost £13 and it was traditional English breakfast but not much choice. Service in the restaurant was very slow in the evening.
Excellent stay at the end of Day 1 on a 3 day cycle tour 🙂 Access straight off the Tissington Trail, secure overnight storage for our bikes, comfortable stay and superb food. Special mention for Declan who was incredibly helpful and welcoming, despite a very busy evening in the bar and restaurant - an asset to the New Inns 😀
The staff were fantastic - friendly, helpful and helped us check in early and gave us advice. Room was comfortable and clean if a little dated. Surroundings were quiet, but walls were thin so could hear others talking, showering etc.
The newly refurbished bar and restaurant areas are very good. The staff all very good and the food was very good
Rooms in the hotel area are in need or are in the middle of being renovated, hopefully they will be up to the standards of the downstairs are, that do need to organise a wine menu sooner rather than later
Location was great for what we needed.
The hotel is undergoing renovations and what had been carried out was lovely. The room I had was not one that had been renovated but it was acceptable and it was clean. My friend had a renovated room that was very nice. The staff were lovely very friendly and accommodating. The hotel would benefit from an EV charging point as it is in the countryside and I struggled to find somewhere in the vicinity to charge my car. Saying that it will not stop me from returning.
Comfortable, convenient & very friendly staff. Great full English breakfast.
Toilet was a bit noisy & hot water took a little while to appear.
Staff very friendly and welcoming Bed very comfortable and bedroom / bathroom clean Shower took a long time for the hot water to come through, but it was plentiful and warm enough when it arrived Nice continental breakfast - fruit and yoghurt, toast and jam/honey, tea and fruit juice (though we had to ask for the fruit juice) Property is easy to find on the main road to Buxton, and deep in the countryside - perfect for walking (close to Dovedale) The self catering apartments looked very nice and well appointed
Not a negative, but just to be aware - the main building is in the process of being renovated, this didn't affect our stay at all but standards of decor vary around the building. Also due to remote location WiFi is via satellite and sometimes is a bit flakey
Good location, comfy beds
Restaurant was closed on a Monday so we had to travel elsewhere to get dinner - didn’t know this when booking
Great new enterprise. Generally excellent.
We had nowhere to store clothes or hang towels
The room was spacious, airy and lots of storage space. The views were beautiful and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent.
No hairdryer in bedroom.
Staff and breakfast
Very tired rooms, holes in carpet, dead moth in the shower, not clean enough
Nice cooked breakfast. Large comfortable bed. Beautiful remote location.
Decor needs freshening up. Very austere and dark. Could do with some help from Alex politi !
Breakfast was good. staff very friendly and helpful. Bar open until late.
Outside signage needed so that the hotel can be located more easily located from the road. Still some repainting and refurbishment to be completed.
Great location and staff. Big spacious rooms. Good breakfast.
WiFi doesn’t reach the room I was in.
The best point is the location...The accommodation is nice and very clean. The kitchen is well equipped. The staff member we dealt with was kind and helpful. The area is peaceful and quiet at night.
During the daytime it was impossible to relax because of the current renovation work. Also, if you have a sensitive nose, this may not be the best choice due to the neighbouring cattle farm. The WiFi is practically unusable, and because there is almost no mobile signal, mobile data does not work either. Overall: If you are looking for a lovely, clean place to stay and do not need to work online or stream films, and you are not bothered by farm smells, then this is a perfect choice.
Very quiet, good spot and although room was due to be renovated it was pretty good
Site more under renovation that we realised and no food available because of that currently. Communications not particularly clear as to how to access room and the phone number on Booking.Com out of date.
The location for the Tissington Trail are perfect
The main building was closed for refurbishments so no breakfast option, no evening bar opinion. Poor water pressure in the shower, heating on a timer for 2.30 so when we came back for a shower at 1.30 the room was freezing and we couldn't warm it up?
Excellent service and location maybe breakfast could be included in the price but wasn't a fortune to have very clean and suitable room no fault found and there was a bar and quiet room if you wanted it maybe in time could offer food in the evening but overall I would stay there again
Could include breakfast in the price and serve food in the evening
Great breakfast, very nice service and great food, great location too
I travel often and have nothing to complain about
Brilliant! We really liked staying here! The room was small but it was comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and the walk just outside the house was super convenient. Truly recommend this place! Ps. Let them know when you are travelling with your dog!
The staff were very friendly. Had a nice quiet room to the rear overlooking the gardens. Great location for cycling the Tissington Trail. Breakfast was lovely & plentiful.
We didn’t dislike anything as we’ve stayed before. We did find a restaurant to eat in the evening, just a shame this hotel didn’t offer food at night save having to drive out.
Good peaceful location and any issues were sorted quickly by the staff.
In the four poster room but the location of the TV meant only one person could watch whilst on the bed.
The location worked for us as was there for a wedding nearby
The room felt claustrophobic and in need of a refurbishment. The beds were unstable and creaked as soon as you moved. Bathroom was tiny and the toilet so closed to the sink that one could barely manage to sit. The room was very dark. For the price of the room I was expecting much more!
Beautiful room, friendly staff and delicious breakfast
Great location, ideal base to explore the various nearby walks
Being an old listed building, the hotel is showing its age, and could ideally benefit from some TLC here & there
Amazing location, the most comfortable bed i think I've ever slept in,breakfast was outstanding, and the staff were all very professional and welcoming, I will certainly be making a return visit.
There was nothing i didn't like,I just wished I could have stayed longer
I didn't stay for breakfast as I had to leave early
En suite bathroom was a bit cramped (with my long legs I had to sit sideways on the loo) but otherwise bedroom was good
Never had breakfast so can't comment but would definitely stay again
No evening meals but plenty of eating areas nearby
Breakfast was absolutely marvellous, expansive a wide ranging.
The only things was its proximity to a dairy farm, and the natural aroma consequences
The staff were all friendly and the owner was very welcoming and accommodating. The hotel was in a convenient location and made it easy to get to nearby towns and there were plenty of pubs/restaurants nearby. It was also quiet and it was on the Tissington trail which was nice. The room was very comfortable with fast WiFi and a smart TV.
Property was clean
Shower was terrible, it had no power to it so it was a sprinkle room was very cold
The staff where lovely. Breakfast was good and plentyful.
Easy to find, easy to access, conveniently located for Ashbourne. I particularly loved the shower.
It's on a decent spot handy for Ashbourne and the Peak district/ staff's moorlands.
Their furnishings are tired. And the staff seemed indifferent at best. There's a small 'club bar'. The guy in charge was watching the TV as we walked in ( fair comment). However he didn't turn it off after we'd been served. Seemed weird. Its a decent location but, be aware it's very basic and rather tired looking . Hotel. .
The hotel looks , the cleanliness and the colour scheme
The discomfort during this stay was very high. As an individual whom works alongside adult social services I'm shocked at how bad of an experience this was. Especially arriving at hotel to UK and GB flags as a mixed race dark skinned individual. Straight away I felt uneasy due to such. I came here to get away from current world stressors but that really made me feel uncomfortable. We then felt pressured about ordering breakfast I did say we are ok for breakfast as we had porridge pots packed but was told we needed to tell them if we wanted a breakfast a few times which we didn't want a breakfast. We was coming for a short break booked from a care plan. We was shown too our room and it was cold when we entered and ok the rest of the time but not particularly warm. The staff shown us the bathroom and said you've booked disabled and looked as us which I felt a discomfort here so I just carried on with things as I don't feel I need to talk about my hidden disabilities to anyone. As an individual with fluctuating illnesses where I cannot stabilise my body temperature it's high priority for me as a disabled individual to be kept warm in a space I'm spending time in. My care team at home are aware of such with evidence from the specialist doctors and neurologist.I also have mobility challenges that sometimes I feel ok to walk and other times I need my scooter so I want to be able to be at ease on a break. I felt some discomfort like I was being watched around the space. We was Locked out the room late at night as it had a Yale lock and one of those automatic closing doors, I rang constantly on my other phone from the car as an adult and child was locked out the room and the dog locked in the room. It seems you could only access the porter by knocking on his door which you couldn't know which one from outside of the hotel as the doors was locked. I was beeping my horn shouting for help and calling and nothing.
Beautiful location! Staff “Kevin” was lovely!!
Paid £105 for a king room with disabled access. Got a room we had to walk up a flight of stairs with no disabled access that was just a standard double, not a king.
Nice and cosy 👍
Good value handy location. Dog friendly rooms.
Cold at night
Very friendly welcome from all the staff. Tissington Trail is right behind the hotel, only a two mile hike to the hamlet of halls & 'High' Sheriff of Derbyshire, lots of paths downhill into Dovedale. They have a belle jardin derriere to sink ales post perspirations, good bar & games room by reception.
My amigo's snore-fest ;-o Games room is big enough for a ping pong table, or upgrade the current snooker table which drunkards couldnae crack!
nice breakfast with goodselection
Spacious room, value for money.
Kettle not so clean
Clean rooms and friendly staff.
Traffic noise and thin walls between rooms
Such polite and helpful staff. It really makes such a difference to be greeted by such a friendly welcoming face. Thank you for our stay
The room was clean.
It was very small, dark and smelled a bit strange.
Good breakfast. Nice room.
Really enjoyed our 2 night stay. We were in one of the apartments (room 3) which was very clean throughout. The bed was comfortable and the apartment was spacious. The staff could not have been more helpful, they were friendly and approachable, nothing was too much trouble. We felt very welcome. The breakfast was excellent, lots of variety and all fresh, our little dog was also well looked after with a sausage for breakfast each morning. There is also a lovely walk with amazing views just at the back of the property. The bar was open on both nights, it has a games room and a nice atmosphere. We highly recommend a stay here.
Beautiful location with walks from outside the front door. Friendly, helpful staff.
Hotel a little run down in places
Comfortable bed.
Needs updating, mould in the bathroom, paintwork dirty, sofa old, hotplates didnt work. Needs a deep clean.
The property was very clean immaculately clean and it was very cosy comfy we had everything we needed . Mirror dressing table large wardrobe and chest of drawers . Hairdryer and Towels . The beds are made up and comfy . They made our dogs very welcome and even gave them a breakfast . The breakfast was amazing fruit croissants yogurts and hans toast cereals water and has much tea and coffee as you wanted . We gave paid a lot more for less choice elsewhere . My digs had breakky both days which they both thought was just Pawfect . The Tissington Trail is just behind the hotel to walk the dogs . There is also a lovely garden at the back if you can’t walk far and use the trail and ample room for the dogs to run around. We parked our car outside our room . There is ample parking . Recommendation’s a small fridge to keep things in . We had taken some cheeses and some wine to have later when back at the room . Also an extra chair to sit on would have been perfect to eat our cheeses and drink our wine . The staff could not do enough to make us welcome and nothing was too much trouble . I’m sure if we had asked for a chair they would have provided one . They were all Very friendly and they were all very welcoming . It was so quiet and relaxing we throughly enjoyed our stay .
Not having a fridge and an extra chair to sit whilst watching TV . One of us sat on the bed but that would be difficult for some . The shower was very low pressure and needs to be looked at this is something that I forgot to mention before leaving .
The property was very clean, the staff were lovely, location was great.
The rooms/bathrooms are a little tight, the beds weren’t very comfortable.
Great hotel with a very convenient location. Parking was easy, as there were plenty of spaces available. Breakfast was delicious, filling, and varied, with enough choice to suit different tastes. The hosts were amazing - kind, attentive, and always ready to help. They made the stay especially pleasant.
Comfortable bed
Parking a bit of a nightmare ,
Pre installed Netflix in the room and strong WiFi was enough to get me comfortable in the evening. Room was clean and quiet and bed very soft which helped me to sleep all night without waking up.
Not having fringe and hair dryer in the room was a bit inconvenient but we have survived!
Breakfast was good for the extra £10 per person you had to pay but they catered for Vegan and Vegetarian guests with a seperate area containing things like Oat milk, Soya Milk, toaster for gluten free toast making plus plenty of fruit options.
Dated decor, over priced for the condition and quality of the accommodation, met by member of staff in very scruffy shorts and vest top, low budget room furniture with hard uncomfortable bed that had no mattress topper, cupboards were chipped and door loose, bathroom was tiny.
Homely and clean with beautiful scenic views and lovely staff.
Very good location, nice rooms and friendly staff.
All good
Great for our stop on the way north. Close to thors cave and nearby shops
Mind your head if you’re tall going through the doors :)
Property is in a great location so was very quiet & peaceful
The decor needs to be upgraded as the carpets were bare in places & wall paper/paint needs re-doing.
Breakfast was acceptable
Did my own toast and then had to wait for scrambled egg. Could have done them together in the kitchen. Toast was cold by the time eggs came.
The staff was so friendly and accommodating to us and our dog. Gave our dogs little treats and fussed him. Room spacious and comfortable. A lovely bar and a fantastic breakfast. A fantastic location with lots of walks around, we couldn't ask for more. Thank you!
Nothing
Picturesque and tranquil location. Adequate choices for Vegetarian breakfast. Friendly staff who catered our needs. Room with the green countryside view and cows grazing in the distant.
Nothing
Location is very good for Dovedale. Good breakfast & comfortable rooms.
The bed - it was higher in the middle - so you had a tendency to roll down to the edge - maybe we don't weigh enough !!
The room was good and breakfast was a good choice with everything at hand. Service was exelent
The shelf over the sink in the bathroom was to big, was difficult to access the sink for washing hands, cleaning teeth.and swilling face, needs thinner shelf or bigger sink, very frustrating. Family room
catered for disabled clients
no catering mid week. was warned in advance
I was allocated a well furnished and comfortable flat in the grounds, everything I needed to self cater for a week.
Very quiet for my liking (I actually thought the hotel was closed on arrival at 4:45 in the afternoon!) bar and restaurant not open for the entire week!
Great place. Stayed there while hiking the White Peak. Very friendly and comfortable, and they put on a good breakfest spread too. Very reasonably priced for what you get. I appreciate the management answering my questions in advance about how best to get there on foot. I only regret I was too tired after hiking all day to try the bar.

Location
9.5/10Many reviewers praised the beautiful, remote location and proximity to the Tissington Trail; occasional mentions of farm smells are noted but location is a clear strength.
Room Quality
7.2/10Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds for many guests, but several comments point to tired decor, holes in carpet and rooms awaiting refurbishment, plus intermittent heating/water-pressure issues.
Amenities
6.4/10Amenity shortcomings were common: unreliable/poor WiFi and mobile signal, missing hairdryer, and temporary closures of bar/breakfast areas during refurbishment, though some units had well-equipped kitchens.
