Clave Verde Ecolodge

We loved everything about the Clave Verde Ecolodge. The location is remote and quiet. It is a little oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Las Terrenas. The staff are so warm and pleasant. The owners are amazing and go above and beyond to make the experience the best possible! The food is spectacular - so fresh & so many options to choose from (which is good because all of our dinners were in the restaurant). There is a pool to enjoy as well. The owners gave us so many recommendations to make our stay, excursions and visits to the beaches exceptional. They are very special people and are committed to offering a sustainable vacation.

There really isn't anything that we didn't like.

The room was very beautiful and comfortable. The food was excellent. The best we had in the Dominican Republic so far and the price is extremely reasonable. The staff was professional and friendly. I would definitely go back for the food and for the comfortable room.

We had to change room as we didn’t know from the description, that it was in a shared apartment. That information should be clear on booking.

Desde que llegamos a l trato tanto de dueños como del personal no pudo ser mejor, atentos en todo momento. La habitación muy cómoda y limpia. Tienen agua envasada para que tú llenes tus cantimploras o botellas siempre disponible. La piscina es un plus, aunque normalmente el día se pasa fuera tanto por la mañana antes de irte o por la tarde si vienes de la playa se agradece, además de las vistas impresionantes. La terraza de la habitación te deja ver un amanecer y un atardecer maravilloso. Y por no hablar de la comida, el desayuno está incluido, siempre fruta, café y zumos incluidos pero luego eliges entre varios de la carta, probamos casi todos y no sería capaz de elegir el que me quedo. La cena, la probamos el primer día y no hemos querido ir a ningún otro sitio, sin palabras para describir cada plato que probamos, encargamos una langosta para la segunda noche y además de agradecer infinitamente su preocupación por agradarnos, creo que ha sido de las mejores langostas que he probado. Noemi la dueña te ayuda con opciones de excursiones o lo que necesites, cualquiera del personal siempre está dispuesto a ayudarte en lo que sea El sitio es espectacular despertaré allí en medio del campo no tiene palabras No os olvidéis de probar los mojitos

From the moment we arrived at Clava Verde we knew we were in for an unforgettable experience. Every single aspect of our stay exceeded our expectations. The hospitality at this place was second to none. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, always greeting us with warm smiles and a genuine willingness to help. What I like to point out is that the food was simply outstanding. Chef Emelie and her staff clearly takes great pride in their craft, as every meal was great. From breakfast to dinner, each dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The variety of options catered to every taste, and we especially loved the local specialties. The place was very clean and designed very nicely. They were a few places that you could hang around and just relax. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. One of the highlights of Clava Verde was the breathtaking view. Whether we were enjoying a meal on the terrace or relaxing at the pool, the scenery was nothing short of spectacular. Last but not least we want to thank the owner Jonathan! He was incredibly kind, cultured, and full of fascinating stories about his experiences in the Dominican Republic. Taking the time to chat with him was a true pleasure, and we highly recommend that any guest do the same—his insights and warm personality added a unique and personal touch to our stay.

I loved the location and the staff was very nice and friendly. I had the perfect room with patio with the best view & a hammock. The food was delicious, there were a lot of delicious vegan options for each meals. The dining space is beautiful and the owners are often around with an excellent music selection. The view is stunning and the location is extremely peaceful & relaxing, this is exactly what I wanted to start the year. I couldn’t ask for more for a first time in Las Terrenas.

Nothing was negative honestly. I would say maybe the pool area should be tidy-up a bit more. I wasn’t comfortable to lay down by the pool. The natural setting and the view is amazing though.

The location was amazing, up in the rainforests - this could have been made much clearer in the information for the hotel. While certainly not a disappointment, it was a surprise. The staff were lovely, and attentive, and the live music was an unexpected bonus.

The overall establishment is a bit rundown and shabby, with very much a DIY aesthetic to it. Unfinished surfaces, rusty items, loose paving stones, irregular steps, etc. It's not about the finishes (the overall feel of the place was great), but rather the care and attention given to the details and finishes of the construction. A little bit of time and skilled local labour applied to this establishment would make it a real gem.

This ecolodge literally puts you in the center of nature in the rainforest. Plus, the staff is super friendly and knowledgable. The owners are two of the nicest people that you will ever meet. The onsite restaurant is a plus! If you want to eat like the locals, this is your place. This is not your usual hotel. It's located in the hills and it has a rugged charm. Nevertheless, we fully enjoyed the experience and recommend this ecolodge!

Is not easy start, because we enjoyed all they offer there , but human quality of Noemi & Jonathan and all the staff, the care they have with the guests, the details and the Nature around, the kitchen and the delicious food (BEST Piña colada 00 alc. ever tasted ) and the sweet dogs (Loba and the old pack) made our days in Samana a one Life experience. If you want enjoy las Terrenas, sun bath and beach lovers should add calm and peace in mornings and evenings in this really special place. I want also mention the good beds, hot showers and delicious breakfast and the impressive green views and songs of tons of birdlife.

I loved the peaceful location- down an unpaved track , elevated location with far reaching views. The hosts and their team of staff are just very lovely people- there is a sort of old school home away from home feel to the place. The food is just great in that there are plenty of really healthy options- fresh ingredients and home cooked items. They arranged for me to hike with a neighbour- a french lady who has 10 years experience of all the local tracks- on horseback and on foot...it was fabulous. It was great to have hot water and quality towels and bed linen. I really felt very comfortable here as a solo traveller.

We loved so many things about this place! Our room, while small, was cozy and very comfortable - good bed, closet space, water pressure, and bathroom. There was plenty of drinking water available, and the shared deck lounge area was wonderful. The owners and all the staff are fantastic - very friendly, interesting to chat with, and kind. Our Spanish is pretty rough, but language was never an issue. In our 4+ day stay, we never left! Very relaxed vibe, the wifi was great, and we loved just hanging out by the pool. The food was AWESOME! We ate every meal there and enjoyed it very much. We basically, saw no reason to leave :) Oh - they have friendly, sweet dogs too - nice bonus!

This place is great, and we would go back without hesitation. That said, there is not much within walking distance (though walking up and down the road is pleasant, and you can get quite a workout going up and down the hills). The gym could offer more in terms of equipment too, and if many of the rooms are booked, there won't be enough pool furniture (not a problem when we were there). Again, these are all small details - very good place to stay. When you arrive beware the very steep hill - we saw a car get stuck coming up, and our cab had to downshift to make it up.

I liked that it was very tranquil and serene place. I was able to gaze at the stars on a clear night. It's also very close to Salto de Limon if you wish to visit it.

Our stay at Clave Verde Ecolodge was fantastic. We didn’t know what to expect, but the website looked very promising and the reviews were excellent. We couldn’t agree more! The ecolodge is surrounded by beautiful gardens and the views are spectacular. The room was very clean and comfortable. All meals were prepared with fresh, local ingredients and great care. Clave Verde is a wonderful place to relax, but also very central to explore Samaná. Jonathan, Noemí and their team really know how to make guests feel at home in a short time and they were always available for any questions we had. We already miss our interesting conversations and can’t wait to catch up again!

Sometimes I doubt if I write a review or not. When I got this opportunity to write about Clave Verde, I was certain that I am pleased to write about my fantastic stay at this little heaven on earth! I had done my homework selecting this place a few months prior to my trip. I had planned to have some time for pure relaxation and refuge in nature. I must give myself kudos for finding the perfect place for my trip. When I arrived, although it was a supper late check-in and it was raining cats and dogs, Noemi was waiting for me in the parking lot with a large umbrella and a welcoming smile. She was so helpful during my stay. Jonathan is a pleasant gentleman that I could stay and had the pleasure of speaking to him for a year and more. You will positively feel at home or like visiting one of your family members. The Clave Verde team is so friendly and professional. From their delicious food and drinks, and a fabulous menu of breakfast, to the peaceful area which is the result of mindful management of every single detail. A romantic room, a spectacular view of greens and blues, and never-seen beautiful birds are all included in your package for free! Since I am back I am talking about this place to my friends and encouraging them to have such a unique and wonderful experience that I had. By the way, they can speak any language you speak, I bet! This is the stay that you never forget.

My husband and I spent 4 days at this terrific Ecolodge in the mountains of Las Terrenas. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Our suite was lovely, clean & spacious with beautiful views of the mountains & the ocean in the distance. The owners & staff are so pleasant & friendly and the food is absolutely delicious! It is a very tranquil relaxing environment which is exactly what we were looking for. The evening sounds of crickets & early morning birdsongs are delightful! We absolutely loved it! 😊❤️

In the middle of the nature and close to the town, designed with care and operated by friendly staff. The restaurant serves fresh and delicious food. We enjoyed our 2 night stay despite rainy weather. Highly recommended 😉

We came back from Clave Verde feeling grateful. We loved waking up to nature sounds, serene surroundings, fresh juices, and healthy, hearty breakfasts. We enjoyed our morning conversations with Jonathan and greatly appreciated Noemi's recommendations for places to go and her arranging our trip to El Limon waterfall. We decided to have our last dinner at Clave Verde's restaurant, and we regretted not doing that every night; the food was exquisite and made with a lot of love; thank you, Sandra, and everyone in the kitchen. Clave Verde is a short drive to most beaches around. It's a great location if you want to enjoy the day trips yet retreat away from the hustle and bustle in the evening. Please note when you arrive, it is a steep drive up the hill; it helps to have the shift on the 1st gear.

I loved perfect views, nature. It's far from town, but quite close to the road, if you want to catch guagua to somewhere. This place is simply excellent!

Fantastic location, very peaceful. Very friendly staff. Beautiful food and drinks in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. Great to hear about the work being done to make the lodge even more sustainable and eco friendly. Lots of useful local knowledge shared for great beaches/restaurants to visit in the local area. A great place to stay!

The last part of the road to the lodge was extremely steep but we managed in a small car without 4wheel drive. We loved it. Super relaxing. We took a 20 min walk to the beach instead of walking and it was enjoyable. We would definitely stay again. If you like eco lodges, booking this one is a no brainer

It was an oasis of quiet and beauty on top of the hills, overlooking the forest and ocean. As bird-watchers, we loved so many birds all around us. The owners Jonathan and Noemi were very friendly and helpful and we had many good chats. The food and drink were excellent. Sandra makes delicious meals. Try the shrimp curry! Or drunken ribs! A nice long pool for swimming. Quiet spots for relaxing everywhere. Fantastic massages from Anna! I dd intro fo Tai Chi with Jonathan in their gym, which helped stretch things out. Location is on a hill, so lots of wide stone stairs, but well well lit. Very pretty spot and amazing views. We'd go ahead for sure.

The views were gorgeous, the staff was very hospitable and friendly. And that breeze you get on the balcony was fantastic.

This was our second trip to Clave Verde. This trip was better than the first one, hard to imagine it could have been better but it was. The facility has been spruced up with new sidewalks, painting, a new menu, but the same ambiance remains. The owners are now living on sight which is a big plus for guests. John and Noemi, the owners, are congenial and helpful. Sandra, the chef, is a sweet lady who knows her craft/art and takes great pride in her work with interesting flavors, textures, and beautiful presentations. Sandra knows how to prepare fresh fish and seafood. We did not eat anywhere else this year and last year. When you find great right at your doorstep there is no reason to venture out. We are planning to return in April/May.

The best is the amaizing views, lovely swiming pool and very comfortable bedroom

This is one of the most beautiful and unique places I have ever been (and I have been in many :)). The peace and beauty of the scenery is in perfect harmony with the understated, natural elegance of the hotel. If it matters to you that it is a sustainable, green form of tourism, then this is for you. If it doesn't, then it is still for you. You still get comfortable and clean rooms, a beautiful pool, a terrace with a breathtaking view, and healthy, delicious food! Everyone is super friendly and Jonathan and Noemi are just the most gracious of hosts. Trust their suggestions and let them hook you up with a guide. You will not go wrong! Cannot wait to go back. My 11-year-old daughter can't either and that says a lot!

Great hosts. Cool vibe. Rustic accommodations so stay away if you’re high mainanence types. Bring earplugs if you don’t like the sound of nature.

Property — the rooms have paper thin walls, and one night a couple arrived to the room next to ours and we could hear everything. Really, as if they were in our room. These rooms were designed to be big apartments for families but they divided them into smaller rooms. Need to do something about the noise. When we complained, Jonathan was quick to rectify and placed us in another room. We didn’t know that actually it shared the kitchen with another room that was taken. So in the morning it was embarrassing to see someone there in the kitchen. That could have been transmitted when we moved, but we were still happy that they moved us... Location — to reach clave verde you need to go through some dirt tracks and then go up a steep incline which could make some drivers nervous. Food/service — breakfast was generally quite good as was the food, but the service was sloww. I mean 1 hour was the min for breakfast. Sandra the cook was super nice but she would not organize things in a way to make it more efficient. Not her fault, she was left pretty much alone. The menu has some tricky things where we ordered two items that were listed together under a single price and then were charged twice that price which felt like a rip off. BTW the prices for food are high, as is the beer. I guess they know that if it is late one may feel lazy... Owners -Jonathan Noemi are nice people. Very responsive. Still figuring out how to manage their property but that is totally understandable.

We could write a best selling book but we have to keep this short We have had many island vacations at different locations throughout the world. Clave Verde and Las Terrenas stands out as number one. The pictures and website are true in describing the experience that awaits you. We were treated with kindness, caring, and above all else we had all our meals prepared by Sondra. Sondra made dinner when we arrived and breakfast in the morning. Both were outstanding and for five days we ate nowhere else even though we were given recommendations. Jonathan took us shopping and showed us where he bought fresh local fish and vegetables that Sondra would prepare. Clave has a menu but we just asked Sondra to make what she wanted to serve us, a new surprise every time we sat down for a meal. WOW!!!!!

My teen daughter and I spent one week at Clave Verde and had the most wonderful experience! Even before we arrived Noemi our amazing hostess had emailed me all the information I needed to get a bus from the airport and helped me figure out all our transportation needs, even offering to pick us up in Las Terrenas the local town if we needed. As soon as you arrive and are greeted so warmly by her, you know you are in the most caring and capable of hands. The whole place is like being in a tree house with views from the rooms and dining area overlooking the trees and mountains to the sea beyond. The accommodations are super clean and really well designed with rustic elegance giving you a real feeling of communion with nature. Returning to the peace and tranquility of Clave Verde after a day at the beach or an adventure elsewhere was pure joy. In the evening before dinner, we relaxed and lounged by the salt water pool, resting our eyes on the stunning view, chatting to the other guests, or to Noemi and her wonderful husband Jonathan. Breakfasts in the morning were absolutely delicious with freshly blended papaya, mango or pineapple juices and fruit bowls, followed by wonderful egg dishes or pancakes with home made jams. Noemi went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and will help you plan and book any outing you have in mind. By the end of our trip we felt like family and are so grateful to have landed in such an oasis of peace and charm and warmth. Amazing!!!

This quiet and relaxing ECO-LODGE is situated a little outside from Las Terrenas on SAMANA, close to the mountains. Awesome rooms, pool and terrace with incredible views! Many thanks to John and Naiara for their kind support and hospitality. Really a great stay!
