It was in a beautiful setting
The grounds and views were beautiful
Staff very welcoming and very comfortable hotel and room
The location was stunning, the staff were all so friendly and helpful. The room was perfect and we were even given a complementary upgrade because it was mine and my partners anniversary! The restaurant in the evening was lovely and the breakfast the next day was great. We look forward to hopefully staying again in the future
Homely and beautiful setting Arrived and welcomed , staff are so approachable and it feels they love to help. Meals are good
Decaff coffee wishwashey
Fabulous location in a lovely little town with great walking in great countryside. Hotel was very comfortable and clean with helpful staff.
Lovely room, food and staff. Highly recommended.
Going home
Quirky old property in a beautiful location.
Room was tired and in need of a makeover.
Great place to stay. beautiful rooms and wonderful hotel, bar and restaurant . Really accommodated our dog, excellent outdoor area, fan provided was appreciated.
Pillows weren't to my liking (but that's personal)

An excellent stay! Extremely comfortable room and immaculately clean. Helpful and attentive staff in reception, restaurant and bar. Wonderful meals and menu choice. Beautiful surroundings, garden and conservatory.
Absolutely nothing.
Beautiful building. Lovely location
Room was very hot but it is an old building. Hotel had provided a fan which was very welcome
the location
bedroom was small, next time will book larger room on first floor as there is no lift.

Location, ambience on the terrace and in the bar, comfortable room, great service
Whilst I really enjoyed my cooked veggie breakfast, the meal in the evening before was fine/ good rather than wonderful.
Great room. Excellent service and staff.
lovely old historic inn in a quiet interesting town in beautiful countryside.
Location beautiful room
Only critisism would be menu not much variety for gf but meal I had was delicious.
Great staff in every area 👌👍
De locatie, de kamer, het eten en het personeel zijn top!

Beautiful historic hotel, beautifully curated, updated in decor yet importantly keeping its unique character and charm - including the 300 year old panelling in the dining room. Very much appreciated after staying in another historic property where the rooms had been disappointedly over modernised. Over all it was a delightful place, our room was lovely, spacious and comfortable The gardens and views were also lovely. The staff were really superb, friendly, attentive and responsive.
The only note that let it down was our evening meal. We were there on a Monday night, and we wondered if it was the chef’s night off, as it was distinctly disappointing, especially the salad we ordered. However the staff handled our complaint politely and professionally and replaced our crispy beef Asian salad, with another meal. I ordered the alternative feta salad which sadly again was over vinegary and basically just not very nice. I didn’t mention this again as I didn’t want to moan…. but on a positive note this morning the breakfast was fabulous!
The property was situated very well and had fabulous views
Lovely old hotel looking down on the rest of the town with amazing views of the Shropshire hills.
The room doors slammed very loudly and the room next to us didn’t try to close their door quietly it literally shook the walls! Other than that all good.
Wonderful location and beautiful building with great facilities- staff trying very hard to helpful. Our car broke down and reception went out of their way to assist with phone calls etc
Only issue was it was so busy we could not extend our stay - staff running around covering multiple roles

Last visited 15 years ago. Overall the hotel is now better and busier. The staff could not be more helpful. Excellent and memorable stay. However I need to comment that the immediate locality has gone backwards. A significant number of properties/ businesses are empty or falling into disrepair. Weeds growing out of pavements, etc. It’s a shame for the hotel which is very tidy and run professionally.
Beautiful room, spotless and comfortable. Arrived during a hot weather spell and there was already a fan in the room, switched on, and a window open.

Really nice pub, great beer garden and comfy bedrooms

Absolutely incredible from the moment we booked to the moment we left! Everyone is so helpful and attentive. We struggled to park and a quick call to reception meant cars were moved and a space was made for us! I only called to ask about alternative parking! The rooms are gorgeous (the bed was super comfortable and the shower was lovely, good pressure and temp!) the garden is beautiful and the residents terrace is a lovely, more secluded spot. We also had the gate house booked for some of our party and we were incredibly impressed with the place. Very spacious, well equipped and such a lovely private garden area. Many places claim to be dog friendly but really they are dog tolerant... The castle hotel is completely dog friendly. It was very hot when we stayed and too hot to have our dog with us in the conservatory or terrace/garden in the afternoon so it was fantastic that we were able to leave him happily tucked up in the room. The box of dog accessories and treats and the "pet in room, do not enter" sign for the door were so thoughtful and appreciated.
Leaving. One night was NOT enough.
Location
Slightly overpriced Full English just shy of £17 only one slice of bacon
I don’t normally leave many reviews on things but this hotel was truly amazing. From the staff, food and room it was absolutely stunning. Great location and atmosphere. Dinner was fantastic and very tasty. The room was very spacious and had everything you needed. I would definitely be coming back again. Stunning views and a garden.
Excellent hotel in a lovely town Staff very friendly and attentive Food excellent too Thank you everyone and
All good 👍

Great place to stay and the staff are excellent. We have stopped here before and we have booked again.

The bed was comfortable and the bathroom at the cottage was lovely (We were upgraded as it was our honeymoon.). The food, wine and beer were exceptional. Our dog had a life threatening medical emergency and the manager acted very quickly to get us to the Vets.
Location and the hotel was beautiful 😍

Good location and a comfortable and warm atmosphere with a good restaurant.
Nothing really.
Great village. Lots of lovely tulips. Staff were courteous and helpful. Food and wine good. Building interesting.
The majority of the stay was fine and pleasant. Some points of feedback - The room was cold. We turned the radiators on and waited, but it remained cold all night. The window frame has a large gap, meaning there is a draft. I like ventilation, but in a room without heating, it was too cold, even with two of us for warmth. By the time we realised it wasn't going to get any better, it was late and we just wanted to sleep. Also we weren't warned of the significant roof slope in the room. My partner is 6 foot tall. Even I, at 5'3 had to stoop to get around. We managed. We were only staying one night. But this ought to be prominently stated at the booking stage. The light bulbs in the bedroom have a subtle but noticeable flicker. One of the bulbs has flashing on and off. We took it out for the duration and replaced it at the end. There was a strong external light on outside our room all night. The room needs blackout blinds/curtains. Breakfast - in the main, very nice. A couple of points. 1. Meals need significant protein. The veggie sausages, consisting mostly of mashed potato, meant that the veggie breakfast was carb heavy & protein poor. There are many decent options for veggie sausages these days. I recommend Richmond or Linda McCartney for a heartier offering. 2. To pay for two breakfasts and to be made to choose between jam OR marmalade for the toast felt mean-spirited/Fawlty-esque and was disappointing. 3. For the price of the breakfast, I'd expect fresh bread and not "supermarket sliced".
Lovely cosy spaces for food and drink. Atmospheric rooms surrounded by history.
Lack of fans in bathroom and difficult to open windows
We stayed at The Castle Hotel bed and breakfast and it was amazing cooked to order, and a really good breakfast menu plenty to choose from. 😊
there was nothing we didn't like about the hotel we would stay there again.
One breakfast for just toast and marmalade at £16 pounds was bit expensive
Cost of breakfast
Lovely and clean room (with private garden area!), friendly and helpful staff, and nice food. A pretty town and would definitely recommend this hotel as place to stay. Thanks
Ok
Room cold ..
Breakfast was great value and lots of choice.

The shower and steep steps
We had a wonderful stay at the Castle Hotel. It’s a lovely, welcoming place and we were super pleased from start to finish. The food was absolutely amazing, and the service throughout our visit was really good — the staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The hotel was spotlessly clean, and we particularly appreciated the tea and coffee facilities in the room, which was a nice touch. The garden area was perfect for the dogs, giving them space to stretch their legs safely. Overall, a fantastic stay and we would happily return. Highly recommended!
I was on the top floor which was hard work with 2 dogs

Room spacious and very clean. Our springer spaniel made very welcome !
Our evening meal, especially our main courses, were unexceptional. In particular, my lentil shepherds pie was nothing like a shepherds pie, with gravy lying on the top. Not sure what the additional jug of gravy was for. Having said that, it did taste better than it looked.
Beautiful room, comfy bed, friendly and courteous staff.
Booked last minute, comfy room, traditional country pub vibe, nice venue, 👌
This was a great location - the rooms were far beyond what we expected, the food was great and the perfect location for exploring the Shropshire Hills. Would highly recommend
Everything went well, thanks. My room was beautifully appointed, had complementary dressing gowns, hot drink facilities, a super comfy bed. It was peaceful and relaxing. Dinner and breakfast were lovely, good value for money. The Sunday roast, small portion was plenty for me...I imagine the normal portion would be huge!! Lovely, crispy Yorkshire puddings, almost as good as my Mum's!! All staff were so polite and attentive. I loved the live music in the beautiful surroundings. I would certainly recommend anyone to stay here for a restful, country break. The surrounding countryside is stunning and Bishop's Castle is an interesting, querky little town.
Nothing, it was all great.
Lovely location, beautiful location, very clean and staff were very friendly and helpful
Only problem was two flights of stairs as I'm disabled but still worth the effort of climbing them
Good and accomodation excellent
Parking limited to hen busy with non resident customers
Bath in the bedroom, view from the room, dinner
Need some pre-warning of the constant bell ringing!
We stayed in the room N7 in the attic and throroughly enjoyed ourselves at the Castle hotel. The room was cosy with a charming decor, the view through the attic window was stunning. The bed was super comfortable - I had the best sleep ever! The bathroom was very clean and modern. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant meal was simply outstanding! Overall 10/10 and I’m looking forward to coming back again in the future!

Great location. Lovely old building with lots of character. Great options for dining from cosy pub/bar areas to more formal restaurant. Very quiet location.
TV too small to watch from the distance of chairs/ bed … but didn’t bother us as we spent the evening in the cosy bar.
A wonderful characterful hotel, full of historic interest. Sunday lunch was delicious and plentiful, accommodation was very comfy and spotless. Staff were welcoming and very helpful.
No complaints.
All very good just thought the breakfast was a bit expensive.
Just the price of the breakfast.
Thanks to all the staff for another enjoyable stay Merry x Xmas from both of us see you next year

Wonderful staff, very comfortable bed, super food. Fascinating quirky little town.
The staff were particularly helpful.
There was quite a lot of condensation on the bathroom windows in the morning, spreading across the shelf above the basin.
Staff were excellent. The restaurant was busy with pre-Christmas parties of one sort or another. The staff remained very efficient and good humoured throughout. A very enjoyable stay and evening meal.

The weather!
breakfast was really good, lots of fruit and seeds etc in the buffet Hot dishes also good. Dinner was excellent, not overprices but sensible size portions and lots of flavour
No lift but I understand the reason for that. Room suffered a lot of condensation and bathroom fittings could do with a bit more care.
Lovely friendly staff, clean, nice toiletries, comfy beds. Good breakfast range.

Excellent location, great food and really dog friendly.
The staff were very friendly, couldn't do enough for you. The food was excellent in the evening, and so was our breakfast in the morning. Great views, lovely place to stay. We celebrated our anniversary there.
There was nothing we didn't dislike.

Fantastic old period hotel which has preserved its atmosphere
Carpets were on the tired side (in places)
We stayed in the cottage which was absolutely delightful; very clean; lots of character and the bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed an amazing meal, and the staff are very welcoming, friendly and professional. We would love ❤️ to stay again, Lisa and Mick
Cleanliness was good.
Room location. Scaffolding was up against the windows. It was facing a back service yard. One of the windows was banging all night. I'm not sure if it was a fitting or the scaffolding that was hitting the window. My room was right next to the beer garden, so it was noisy until closing time. The food wasn't great. I spent over £40 on a meal, and it was very average.
