Great place once you get the hang of where to park your car.
A1 stay
Ideally situated for Rutland Water, spacious grounds. Dinner in the restaurant was very good. Breakfast rather noisy, with a holiday camp feel.
Room was small bot ok Overpriced drinks Food was good.
It’s obvious that every single corner of this beautiful destination is well maintained and cared for. It’s not state of the art or brand new, but it’s beautifully looked after. It’s not ostentatious but super comfortable and high quality. The spa area was a fantastic treat. The food in Blossoms was outstanding. The team were discreet, yet warm and friendly. I couldn’t fault a single thing.
Lovely and friendly staff. Not enough attention to details though to take it to the next level. Cleanliness was ok but again, not enough detail. Helpful staff at front desk. New member Clara was superb. Restaurant was ok but did appreciate the hours. All not high end enough to be what it should and many areas needs jet washing and cleaning around the grounds, a lot of areas look worn and degrading.
Lovely stay. Great location overlooking Rutland Water.
Nice room with a lovely view over Rutland Water. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. At night it was very dark and quiet. Breakfast was good with a wide choice of cooked and cold food.
Rooms have no air conditioning or fridge for cold drinks. Windows could only be opened by a couple of inches. Rooms too hot and claustrophobic and would not recommend a stay in the height of summer. In addition, lift was out of order so bags had to be carried up 3 flights of stairs. No porterage service available. Very pleasant surroundings but the rooms were over priced considering the lack of basic facilities.
Very beautiful location. My room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated and the view of the lake was amazing. Staff were very helpful, too.
Quite possibly the most frustrating check in and Check out experience that I have ever encountered. Despite filling out the pre check in information including an arrival time, when I arrived at reception there was literally a queue out the front door and into the car park. The irrelevant attempted conversation from the check in hostess is a clear indication that no one is reading the room, people are stood in line waiting to get to their rooms, stop the question time and come up with an efficient booking in system. Dinner was excellent, I am referring to the food, beautifully cooked and hot, unfortunately the service was at best amateurish, the maitre d welcomed us, seated us and took our drinks order, great, guess what, the drinks never arrived! The server turned up to take our order and asked if we wanted drinks? We told her drinks were ordered 15 minutes ago when we sat down, our food order was taken and she reappeared a few moments later with the drinks saying they had been prepared but no one brought them to us. The food was good, once we had finished our main course we sat for 20 with our empty plates in front of us, I really wanted to order a desert but could not get the attention of our / a server, in the end I gave up and told a passing member of staff that I wanted the bill. Similar story at breakfast with poorly cooked food, I had to request fresh fried eggs as the ones on the hot plate had gone hard. The smallest double bed I have ever seen, with no aircon, unhap
The property and rooms were clean. The room was disappointing - we did not expect a lake view but were surprised to have a view of high brick wall a few feet from the window. We are also disappointed that the hotel rooms were scattered around the hillside in a series of blocks, like an old-style holiday camp rather the hotel we expected that was featured on all literature. Parking was available but the staff did not seem bothered at all that this may be some distance from the rooms. The breakfast was good, to be fair. The gym was fine but the pool too shallow for adults to swim in.
Room far too dark. Very claustrophobic.window facing wall. Bar service not great for 4 star hotel. No bar snacks available on arrival to bar in afternoon and people seemed to be constantly walking through bar area to go to pool area? Not very relaxing
need more staff to check in guests. room not serviced until we asked for this to be done. Restaurant service very poor - took orders and when food came it was not as advertised as they had run out of ingredients.
Check in, dreadful, bags not in rooms when returning from a night out. Ended up in a room that catered for Dogs, but bizarrely you couldn't swing a cat in. Complete rip off in my opinion
Very enjoyable. Fantadtic Grservice, every person we had contact with was polite friendly and welcoming.
The area outside was amazing, but the room where I was staying was very very dark, it also had no air conditioning, was right by the entrance of the building also had some really loud people shouting and talking and sitting with their cars running in a no parking zone for quite some time.
We had a disabled room, The shower needed careful use or it flooded the bathroom. The bed should have been wider, ? king size. In hot weather ii was not good for 2 people.
Not a great experience from booking through to stay. Charges 5 star prices but is not a 5 star hotel. Had numerous issues with management. Would avoid.
Best stay.. would go back again
In a heatwave ,we were given a room with no air conditioning and poor ventilation .We could see other unoccupied rooms with better ventilation . Unremarkable breakfast.
Enjoyed our stay overall. Bed comfortable, room clean. Breakfast was good but no granola or beans on the first day, tinned and packaged goods why run out? Pitch and putt course poorly maintained. Pool good, sauna open, steam room closed, so again disappointing.
Family suite rooms have fantastic views. Very clean, great restaurant and breakfast. Beautiful location
Beautiful modern room with stunning views of water. Balckny excellemt. Friendly team , warm welcome. Definitely return and geeat value for money.
A lovely setting overlooking Rutland Water. The grounds are well kept and it's a very pleasant way to spend a weekend. The Blossom restaurant staff were engaging and helpful, taking time to talk to customers. The spa experience was wonderful and again the receptionist and masseuse were a pleasure. Would definitely like to return.
It was good stay
The location and grounds are amazing, But felt like there wasn’t enough staff for the size of the hotel.
All great Thankyou
Room could have been cleaned to a higher standard, dust behind the tv and in various places. bathroom had mould in the shower and sealant needs replacing in a number of areas. Constant foghorn type noise emanating from the ground floor of Oakham block.
Absolutely brilliant. Well looked after.
We were only there for one night but this was a great base for visiting the area. The room was clean and comfortable; the bathroom was very modern and the towels were large and soft. There was a kettle and a coffeemaker in the room with a good supply of teabags, etc. Breakfast was very good with a wide range of food available. We would definitely stay here again.
Very well presented hotel with clear evidence of recent refurbishment. Clean and comfortable. Great location with easy access to the water. Short drive to Oakham for shopping and refreshments.
Beautiful hotel in beautiful grounds. Room was lovely had a king bed but was two singles put together with separate duvets and sheets which was a little strange. Don’t eat at the restaurant really slow, things missing from our food, hugely overpriced and not cooked well.
Nothing was to much trouble. Everyone was so welcoming
We had a lovely stay, staff were lovely and very helpful. Very clean rooms and very spacious all in all a lovely hotel
Beautiful hotel in amazing surroundings next to Rutland water. Food was amazing and the staff friendly and professional. Beds comfy and room was superb.
Disappointing. I believed country house, dining, sleeping, lounge facility. Everything separate, steep steps. Parking not defined well enough. Restaurant not 4 star. Whole experience is strange. More a resort, lodges etc. beautiful scenery. Necessary to walk outside for lounge, restaurant etc.
We had a few issues which we raised with the management at both the hotel reception and the restaurant. Our advise would be not to book a cosy room for two people as ours was very small and dark and really only suitable for one. We also thought the restaurant food was overpriced for the quality. One thing very much in the hotel's favour is the location as it is in the most beautiful setting so worth staying for that alone.
Beautiful location, amazing hotel, Superb food. Breakfast especially was 10 out of 10. All staff were friendly and polite. Would love to return for another visit, highly recommended.
Beautiful venue and surroundings. Food was great. Room was clean and very comfortable. Would happily stay here again.
Room was very cold and damp, with mould visable. I asked recption to chnage rooms but they said no others were available dispite multiple showing avilable online. Thanks
We stayed in a lodge so my answers apply to that. We did not use hotel facilities as, disappointingly, the pool was closed.
This hotel overlooks Rutland Reservoir and had some amazing views. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We had afternoon tea in the Blossoms which was tasty and filling. And the breakfast was amazing, literally everything you could want. The only problem we had was, we booked a "cozy" double, their cheapest room, which was in the eaves and had slanted ceilings and unfortunately the placement of the shower meant neither me (5 foot 10) or my hubby (6 foot 2) could stand up in it.
Spotlessly clean room, delicious breakfast. Having been told the pool was open, we arrived in time for a swim only to be told it was closed again. Apology was a little half-hearted and an alternative wasn’t offered. A complimentary drink in the bar would have made this a five star rating.
Our self catering accommodation was comfortable, quiet, immaculate, well supplied and felt very homey. I will definitely stay there again.
Beautiful location, clean rooms and bathrooms. Food was good, if there was one criticism it would be breakfast, as I found the bacon a tad hard from being under the heating lamps.
Lovely relaxing calm warm friendly and blossoms restaurant was lovely too
A lovely comfy bed , everything very clean , pleasant room , but , all the good overshadowed by awful condensation after a shower . No extractor fan , it would have made the whole experience 5 star .
VERY large (c60 x 12 ft) and clean one bedroom apartment in the stable block. Comfortable bed, instant hot water for powerful shower, well appointed kitchen. Large lounge had two comfortable big setees and a dining table. I think one of the settees converts to a bed. Nice new carpets and very clean overall The grounds are beautiful and provide super views across Rutland Water and the rolling countryside Staff at the hotel were very friendly Dog friendly. We enjoyed a drink and a nice breakfast in the restaurant's dog friendly area The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating was due to poor heating. We were really cold for the first two nights. The storage heaters do not work nor did the convection heater in the kitchen. Fortunately one storage heater in the lounge had a manual overide and produced a bit of heat to take the edge off the cold. There is also a small convection heater in the bathroom On the last day we realised the bedroom heater was a convection heater and not a storage heater. Again this just took the edge off the cold.
We had a lovely stay here to celebrate a birthday. The only downsides were there was some mould in the bathroom and around the edges of the window in the bedroom, which you don’t expect in a 4 star hotel. Also a shame the spa was closed but that can’t be helped.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Rutland Hall Hotel, and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm welcome from the staff, who made every effort to ensure a comfortable stay. The setting is absolutely stunning, with the hotel overlooking Rutland Water, offering beautiful views and plenty of serene, natural surroundings. The rooms were immaculate and thoughtfully decorated, combining modern touches with classic comfort. One of the highlights was the hotel’s dining experience. The on-site restaurant offered a range of fresh, locally sourced options, and the meals were outstanding. Every dish was prepared with care, and the service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Breakfast was also a treat, with a variety of choices to suit all tastes. Overall, Rutland Hall Hotel is a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and natural beauty!
The location was handy for lakeside strolls
A lakeside hotel with views. Excellent breakfast and service. I was given a rear facing room in the Oakham annex.it saw small with little or no sound proofing (could hear the TV in the room across the hall )and a view of the wall at the opposite. It was clean and well appointed but I suspect warm in summer as no AC although a small fan is provided. Dinner in the restaurant was a bit of a walk up a couple of flights of stairs,no fun when raining. The food was ok but a challenge to find something within my meagre budget. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Very helpful and food is amazing gonna be a weekly stay for myself
An excellent wedding venue. Lovely room, good food and well staffed bar. Hotel room very clean, quiet and with quality linen. Good breakfast. Would not hesitate to stay again.
The room was clean and adequate for our needs. The restaurant was extremely overpriced. The most disappointing aspect was the friendliness of the staff - we felt they were a bit aloof and not particularly warm towards their guests.
Visiting area for one night. Beyond sleeping and eating at venue no other facilities used. Good choice of breakfast. We did eat in restaurant on Saturday night. Seriously expensive… and not up to standard for amount paid. Overall. Reasonable price for room and breakfast. Staff pleasant. Eating in the restaurant expensive for the quality.
Rather spread out, you have to go outside to get to most rooms, the restaurant and reception
Great Stay at this superb location. Shame The Spa wan closed for refurbishment. Had dinner in the restaurant. Fab food and 5* service from Amy Brown who had a wide knowledge of fine wines from around the world. Room was very big ( we did get an upgrade), looking out the lake. Very clean, ample tea, coffee & biscuits supplies in room. Bed supersize and super comfy. Will definitely return and will highly recommend. Pool will be back open in Dec 2024.
The property is a great location and is kept nice, however we ahd an issue with a complete lack of water pressure in the shower which from the set up was not something they were unaware of and when we spoke to the front desk there customer service was lacking which ruined the stay for us
oWe loved this hotel and intend to return one day, probably earlier in the year to see the gardens properly. Our room in the Uppingham block was clean, beautifully equipped and stylish (though I would prefer a brighter colour scheme!)and had a lovely view towards the lake and the original Hall. The food was delicious both at the buffet breakfast and dinner, when it was cooked to order. Restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. Likewise the cleaning staff we met. All in all a nice, much needed, restful few days, only spoilt by the weather being awful on day 1. But it was late September, so not unexpected! It seemed an expensive treat, but probably good value for money.
Lovely location spoilt by terrible weather Found the lighting in suite dark and lights overhanging bed too low On arrival information given extremely quickly Would have liked more information about where to visit in local area Poached eggs we were served looked very snotty other people also left them uneaten Would have liked a fish option at breakfast after a few days a full English becomes too much
Beautiful grounds and stunning buildings. Rude staff - especially the judgmental receptionist who spoke down to my husband as he was dressed in his scruffs having been fishing in the England final on Rutland so wasn't as well dressed as other guests checking in for a wedding party. No Wi-Fi in the Stable Mews despite being told the property has free Wi-Fi. Over an hour to check in if you arrive the same time as a wedding party. Paper thin walls/ceilings. Insulting £50 deposit demanded on check in despite no warning in paperwork. Mouldy, clinical bathroom with no toiletries - silverfish as room mates complimentary though! Horrendously hard bed - the sofa was more comfy to sleep on for three nights. No spa on site despite the name of the property. To top it off, the housekeeping staff let themselves in 30 minutes before check out time to start turning the room around. Honestly, avoid this place. What a joke. If I hadn't prepaid, I would have cancelled on checking in and found a Premier Inn or similar.
Very good
Wonderful Hotel super views great room and sumptuous dinner. Breakfast was a little disappointing after a great dinner only one chef running a full buffet style breakfast with overdone bacon and sausages dried out under the hot service lights I had to ask for fresh everything as there wasn’t eggs mushrooms tomatoes or fried bread
Difficult to review as patchy we found. jnr suite was spacious but a lot of space wasted as sort of hall. Loved big bed looking at lake & balcony. Restaurant is awful - big, more like a cafe & noisy music, but staff at dinner lovely & food v good. V hilly, not disabled friendly tho there is a buggy. Breakfast buffet typical - sad food dying under lights. Gym only opens 745 weekends, have to go to reception to get code which changes daily. Why not give code on check in & change daily after guests check out then could make it 24hr. Hall gives impression its olde world but in fact v modern
The area and lake views were very picturesque as well as nearby towns such as Stamford.Plenty of restaurants to choose from .
The hotel has a beautiful setting by Rutland Water .However our room and particularly the bed was very small .The restaurant was overpriced and with a very poor ambiance so we decided to eat in a very good Italian restaurant in Oakham. The policy of putting down 50pound deposit was insulting so we certainly will not stay again
The hotel is good just didn’t have spa ang swimming pool at the minute ( under renovation) wasn’t aware of it when booked, so can’t refund
Did not like the multi level layout, exhausting small portions on starters and some deserts were terrible, so expensive for what you got
Great place
Different style of hotel with separate buildings with large grounds to explore. Some signage was confusing regarding lifts.
This hotel was stunning however the room i was in (517) was the nosiest room I’ve ever stayed in, the door goes constantly and the light turns on every five minutes. It kept me awake for two days straight.
Room was comfortable but small for the price. Bathroom was well equipped. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Restaurant is expensive with limited menu options especially for vegetarians. Breakfast quality and options were average. The spa was non-operational and this was not listed at the time of booking. The hotel grounds were beautiful and the surrounding area outside the hotel grounds was good for walking.
The stay overall was really relaxing and as a first timer was reasonably priced for B & B. However, the evening meal at Blossoms I though was over priced for what you had on the place. Surely just a spoonful of veg ( peas) or a little extra tomato doesn't add too much to the main course. There was a lot of sauce/ cream on my dish. Nothing to soak it up with :- I had the Cod . I love veg but begrudge paying extra £6.00 for Sweet Potatoes, ect. £26 was more than enough to pay. We will stay again but NOT eat at Blossoms .
Great location (if you stay in the main building). Nice facilities but very busy during the school holidays. The main draw of The Rutland is the amazing staff who could not be more helpful.
A lovely old building, something for everyone. Attentive staff. Beautiful area.
We had a lovely stay at Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa, we were given a complimentary upgrade to a nice room in the main hall, we had a nice swim in the pool although this will be closed for renovation from September. All the food in the restaurant breakfast and dinner was of a good quality and all staff were exceptional.
In our room the double bed was very small and the room was cluttered with unnecessary furniture making it feel hot and slightly claustrophobic. The fittings were new and the room was clean. Ok for a one night stop otherwise go for more expensive options. Breakfast average.
I loved the views and the setting, unfortunately on the day we arrived there was a huge wedding party going on. This meant no space to park in the reception car park. The alternative car park being a 10 minute walk away. It also meant that music was being played until midnight on a Sunday night. Not very good soundproofing from discos in the room!! The safe in the room did not work, reported but not rectified. The towel rail in the bathroom was hanging off, reported but not rectified. The room was big and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Not a four star hotel experience, would have been quieter staying in the local pub which kicks out at 10:30!
Wonderful Just the room was very warm and the fan was not really adequate as you could not open the windows. Very small thing but would really improve the stay.
Having to drive to the restaurant as i have walking difficulties. Makes it feel disjointed. But excellent food. And excellent accommodation. Would stay again definitely.
Very crowded reception area for checking in - two wedding parties arrived at the same time. Our room overlooked the car park and we were kept awake until gone 2.00am by drunken guests arguing and shouting outside. Room only has single glazed windows so even if there are planning restriction secondary double glazing could be added. This would help a lot, especially as the fan light window didn't close properly.
Very nice property in an idyllic location but lacking in dining options and overall catering service
Service before arrival was brilliant, made an error with booking which was easily resolved. Welcome upon arrival was a bit flat, very functional. Booked double standard room, would have described as ‘cosy’. Very compact, nothing special. Just ok. Made hotel aware booking was for a milestone wedding anniversary, wanted stay to be special. There was a postcard ‘congratulations’ and when attending the restaurant, they’d said if they’d known they’d have dressed our table up. I felt they could have made a little more effort with this. Restaurant was the highlight of our stay. Staff were amazing. Despite no notice, they brought out token gesture table decorations- they tried and staff were very attentive. Food was amazing wine was great. Best meal we’ve had for a while. Be forewarned though, it is if the higher price bracket. Worth every penny. Breakfast was ok, the usual cooked breakfast or continental affair. Overall stay was ok.
Great location. Beautiful site. Comfortable room. Great breakfast. Friendly staff.
The lodge was excellent.
The apartment was very clean, well maintained and comfortable. It was well equipped and warm. Grounds are beautifully kept. Stunning views across Rutland water.
Surprised this is 4 star. No bedside lights. When we were eating our evening meal there were crumbs on our bench seat. Spa not available. Parking near our accommodation limited. On the booking into the hotel there was a spelling mistake on the form. The staff and evening meal were both excellent.
Delightful place to stay on the edge of Rutland Water. Clean room well equipped. Restaurant food had a good choice and was well prepared. The only failing was a lukewarm espresso coffee which was changed immediately.
Great location and wonderful views
The hotel is built in several distinct blocks with many stairs between them. Not good for those with limited mobility.
We stayed for one night in between Christmas and new year. The room was lovely as per usual. Our only complaint this stay related to Blossoms restaurant and the front of house. We made our way up to the restaurant at around 7pm. We only wanted some bar snacks (chips or small plates.) only to be told they are fully booked and can’t also make bar food. For a 4 star hotel, I found this pretty poor. You should be able to cater for all guests regardless. Especially when your hotel is in the middle of no where leaving other eating alternatives non existent. We sat in the bar and had a few drinks. Neither the restaurant or bar was busy. Not sure what they call fully booked but there were countless empty tables, even the larger 4’s only had two people sat at it. The only big party was a birthday tucked away in a private dining area. Not exactly difficult to look after. We had to settle for eating some crisps and making our way back to the room. Breakfast the next morning was perfect. The hotel just seems to struggle with evening shifts for some reason. We prob won’t stay again after this experience. We would chose a place in Stamford so we can walk to an alternate dining facility.
Location is beautiful, our suite was well presented and spotlessly clean
Tiny dark room double bed, lumpy pillows. Food and drink over priced I had Pork belly which was chewy with a thick layer of unrenered fat on top and the dauphinoise potatoes and veg were raw the desert was vanilla cheesecake which had no taste, my husband had a cheeseboard with stale cheese. Poor selection of beers. Lovely location
We chose this hotel as we were a group of friends meeting up from various locations. The hotel is lovely and the waterside location stunning. We were given a private room for our group meal. No complaints that I was aware of. Very good breakfast. Plenty of choice from cereals to yoghurt and fruit and full English and pastries. The hotel is the perfect spot for exploring Rutland Water and the local area.
The hotel was excellent, great food and drink, very clean room, high standard of hygiene and all the staff very friendly and helpful! Beautiful views across Rutland water at different points of location. There are a lot of steps in various parts of the grounds which you need to be careful on. Overall, a lovely place to stay 😊👍
It’s an ok hotel. We thought we’d be staying in the stately home part, but we’re in a building behind which was a bit soulless. I don’t see how it can be called a spa hotel as the pool is like a leisure centre pool. We couldn’t get any treatments and no lake view as advertised when I booked. The staff are nice however and helpful and the breakfast was lovely and the room comfortable and clean.
Tight parking when hotel full.
it was different - a very nice setting. I thought the room a little dark even with the lighting on.
