Attended their ‘Christmas Vacation’ night with a group of friends. Food was excellent, wine was good and the Helle beer was tasty. Live entertainment as well, so fun had by all
Very peaceful property. Lovely winery and offerings.
The place seems to have passed it's time. The room was outdated, rusted shower bar, awful heating/cooling system (if it even worked). The hallway to the rooms smelly. More like a cheap motel rather than an Inn. The food was good, but way overpriced. The wine (only tasted the Riesling), had over the top petrol notes and should not be served anymore. Staff tried to tell me about dryness of the wine which has nothing to do with this. Certainly had no idea about wines. The only nice part was the walk to the beach. We were very disappointed and left in the morning as early as possible.
Clean and great service
Beautiful and quiet place highly recommended
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast and comfortable and welcoming main are and dining area.
The staff was very friendly and the property was beautiful and well kept. The only downside was the bathroom was very, very small. The beds were VERY firm - I like a firm mattress, and it was a bit too firm for me. We stayed in a deluxe double queen room.
Beautiful Place with quiet atmosphere. Access to private beach.
Very nice hotel! Reasonably priced, clean rooms, beautiful grounds and friendly staff
Nice place to stay
Beautiful location and grounds, convenient a f practical rooms
Went to meet some Canadian friends at a halfway point between our two homes. This hotel was a poor choice although they surely try hard. Only a handful of rooms at this place (I think 16). More like an old motel than a proper, modern hotel. We note that the entire complex is up for sale, and will likely require a major investment to be habitable. Rooms need a major refurbishment. Bathrooms are small with plastic showers, poor water pressure, and an EXTREMELY LOUD EXHAUST FAN! TV's were 20 year old pre-HDTV models and our friends had continual problems with theirs. Beds were annoyingly soft and furniture was run-down and shabby. We were pleased that there was no carpeting in the rooms, but the faux wood flooring left our feet dirty just walking around. Internet was grossly inadequate and connections were not password protected, a huge problem for device security. The rest of the hotel had similar issues. Floors in pubic areas were uneven and had trip-inducing ramps everywhere. The restaurant was a bright spot, although this time of the year their hours are severely limited. There is a winery on the premises as well, but the actual wines are sadly pretty poor. Promotions for the hotel call it "lakefront", but the actual Lake Huron is a mile away down a dirt road. You can do better.
Beautiful and vintage place. I stayed for two nights and was convenient.
The nature and little pieces of the art around the property.
The surrounding gardens and setting was very relaxing and enjoyable. Dinner at their restaurant was excellent from the friendly knowledgeable waitress to the food presentation and flavors of the meals. The only negative tone would be the sound traveling from the hall.
I loved the gardens, the food, the staff, and the rooms. The only thing that would have been useful is perhaps a microwave in the rooms.
Everything was fabulous.
Very beautiful and well mainteined
Beautiful property!
Beautiful property! I will return!
My husband and I stayed here for my birthday and it was a lovely stay. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and made our stay even better. Our room was cozy and had the jet tub in it which was very enjoyable. It was close to Grand Bend beach and the drive-in movies which made it perfect for us as we didn’t have to drive far. Will be staying again !
.
Loved sitting by the pool. Walking 2 min to the winery. 15 min walk to the beach! We had trouble with the ac in our room & it was fixed immediately. Thank you for a lovely stay!
10/10. I highly recommend this property.
Beautiful little hotel that has a winery onsite too. Make sure you go and walk around the gardens behind the pool they’re stunning!
Clean and well-maintained property.
Breakfast is not available before 8am, although coffee was in the lobby prior to 8am. At one time a beautiful property, looking a little bit aged now.
Lovely place, so beautiful and peaceful and close to so many places
A lovely, quaint well kept property with pleasant staff. We will definitely be back and make sure we visit the winery and restaurant…. Only a short drive to the Pinery National park too!
The walls are way too thin, i could hear my neighbour’s music a little too clearly. Also please leave more towels in the rooms.
Mother daughter trip in one of the Coach House rooms. Nicely appointed room with comfortable bed. Liked the balcony for morning tea (traded our coffee pouches for tea bags). Only downside was carrying our bags up the stairs and would have preferred a separate shower. The grounds are so serene and enjoyed the pool. No visit to the winery as daughter was under-aged but looked nice from outside. Also did not try the restaurant but it also looked very nice. There is parking by their beach. Steep steps to get down to it but beautiful view from up top. We will definitely return and maybe bring another mother/daughter pair to book the other Coach House room.
Great
It’s a very clean establishment overall, we found one small bug on the floor next to the garbage recycling bins. Staff is very friendly. The private beach access is very convenient although there is about 50 steps to the beach but the private access is amazing as we did not have to deal with any crowds unlike the main grand bend beach. Distance to eateries and main beach is reasonable. Suggestions: add an extra garbage bin by the desk. Our room only has a small garbage bin. A couple of the beach towels that we got smelled damp. Noise control. - the door and hallway are sensitive to sounds. Not fault of the hotel on this - Small children were running around early in the morning as early as 6 am. Perhaps better signage along the hallway to remind guests to have consideration for other guests in the area. Overall it was a nice experience and we recommend this hotel and would return as well.
got the impression that the "motel" section was a hobby to the winery facility.
Restaurant was very good, rooms are clean and my wife is very happy
Will return. Close to Bayfield and Grand Bend.
We loved everything about this place. Met the owner Christa and her son very nice. We will be coming back :)
This was a great motel. The grounds are beautiful, the pool was awesome, and there is a private beach that you can walk to or drive with private parking. It’s a small little beach area, but nonetheless, very nice. We went down for the sunset and it was awesome. We were able to find some Lake Huron cold water agates.
Nice and quiet area love it
Sofa bed bedding wasnt provided
Nice place, quiet, and private beach area. Short drive from the Grand Bend.
This is the second time we have been here. We will certainly return again next summer. It is an oasis but close enough to Grand Bend. We highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet relaxing place.
A beautiful estate! The grounds were very well maintained. In the rooms, there were a large number of hooks, which in my opinion, is what makes a hotel room truly great. Everyone had space to hang their towels. Breakfast in the restaurant had both large and small portions available which was perfect to not have to carry left overs around all day. The pool was also well maintained. We watched the employee get it ready for the day as we ate breakfast and were impressed with his thoroughness and committment to regulations. As former lifeguards, we knew all the steps that should be completed. Our highlight (besides the hooks!) was the private beach. You can drive down a short road and park and then enjoy a private beach! There was no one else there on a Monday evening and we enjoyed the sunset.
clean relaxing
Amazing breakfast, pool and private beach in the back! If I go to grand bend again I will be back
The property was very beautiful with lots of nice scenery in the gardens. The rooms were a bit outdated and the walls thin. A beautiful location
We loved the setting/landscape, the outdoor patio, and the pool. Our room was lovely, too, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We also liked the proximity to the lake/beach. It took us about 10 minutes to walk to the beach and we enjoyed sunset by the water. The restaurant in the hotel was also nice, if a bit misleading about the description of the dishes (e.g., two eggs was really one egg if you opted for the small portion). But overall, we enjoyed our stay. I loved the in-room coffee a lot and our room had a fireplace that, even if it was only decorative, it still made the room feel cozy. We hope to come back again sometime.
Nice stay close to grand bend
I
The hotel was decent. It had a bit of a smell. The pool could have been warmer and when we tried to swim the pool cleaner was left in the pool.
This Inn was conveniently located, away from the busy touristy area, but close enough to everything. Grounds are beautiful, staff very helpful. We didn’t have time to have a meal there, but will make sure we do the next time we visit.
Coach house was nice& quiet however could use an update.
Hotel was very nice. Dinner included excellent vegetable curry soup w/ lovely presentation. My partner had birthday noted on reservation and was surprised with lovely dessert creation. Disappointed that access to Lake Huron on property was a short hike away, and 50 steps down to semi-rocky beach. We booked “standard 2 Queen room”. Turns out all these lower price rooms face hwy, luckily did not hear traffic- nothing else available but pricey rooms. When checking out, seems they charged my credit card 48 hours ahead, which I did not realize. We wanted to pay cash, they had to credit account and it took 4 days before the credit appeared on my statement. Overall, very nice experience and would return, now that we are aware of the limitations and quirks of the place.
Winery is on main road. We had coach room so away from traffic & noise. Nice room.
The inn is dated in some parts. Pool is great but staff left the pool cleaner in the pool during the day.
Beds comfortable but I wanted a king which is not available. Rooms still use physical key which is a bit dated. Room clean and spacious. 10 minute's to Grand Bend
I liked the ability to have dining on premises. I wish that the staff had told me to enjoy the bar area while I was waiting for my dinner reservation. As it was I found it on my own and had to ask. This is an upsell feature and should be encouraged. Also I did not figure out the AC adjustment until the following morning. Wish the staff had shown me how to adjust the temperature.
The location was beautiful. It was a very quiet area, and the staff was great
Beautiful property, beautiful beach, friendly staff. Would definitely return
Very friendly and helpful staff. They even bought my injured daughter ice after hours. Room wa exceptionally comfortable and love the trail to the private beach.
The only thing wrong was the paper thin walls
The schnitzel
Pretty happy with our one night stay. Lovely property, clean rooms but out in the boonies a bit. 15 min drive into town for just about anything. Nice pool out back and it's a working winery. Very nice staff. Not crowded as we were here on a Mon/Tues. Great price for the area. We'll be back !
Beautiful grounds. Great attentive staff. Very clean. Good food. Only comment bathrooms need an update.
Having the winery on the premises was a great touch
Beautiful property for walking, lovely pool to cool off in. Staff was very kind and curtious. We will be back.
Will stay again
It was a cute place to stay. The grounds are beautiful. Our dinner in the restaurant was amazing
Excellent service. Professional, attentive and accommodating personnel. Nice and clean room.
Beautiful property - lots to enjoy. Winery on site was a great experience. Very friendly and helpful staff. Had breakfast ywice. Food was great. Pool was a nice treat.
We came for a night stay as we wanted to enjoy the Grand bend beach, we found Hessenland Inn & Schatz Winery as one the best place to stay, from check in to room cleanness, the staff politeness everything was awesome, must recommend.
NA
very clean, beautiful grounds,friendly staff
The pool and gardens are spectacular. The tower room had a lovely lounge upstairs with windows on three sides. We really enjoyed that space.
Hessanland is a quaint and affordable option just outside of Grand Bend in Zurich, Ontario. It has a bed and breakfast feel with hotel amenities such as the restaurant and pool. The grounds are spectacular. Unfortunately, our stay was too short and our itinerary too packed to explore them. Check in was smooth and the front desk staff were friendly! We do wish however, that we had received two keys for our room. The room itself was very clean. The bed was comfortable. And although it wasn't HD quality, we had a good selection of satellite TV stations. Our suggestion is that there be full-sized and multiple beauty supplies (lotion, soap, makeup wipes) and not the one tiny package of each that came with the room. Disposable shower caps, black out drapes that close completely, a DO NOT DISTURB door hanger, sound-proofed walls to reduce ambient noise and the hallway conversations we were sometimes hearing, and a small microwave would have been even more welcoming!! Finally, our room had a wet or musty smell, as if the carpets had been recently shampooed and had not quite dried. Therefore, a fresh and more welcoming scent would have been awesome. Overall, our stay was comfortable, economical, and drama-free!
We booked the inn for one night and also the July wine event. The food was excellent and the value of the whole package was amazing. The rooms are standard but very clean and all that is required for an overnight stay. Would highly recommend to anyone.
The girl at the front desk went out of her way to help me. My room wasn't cool enough so she brought a large fan to my room.
Ver beautiful property and staff were very flexible and understanding with our late arrival. It was very quiet while we were there Sunday and Monday night, felt like we had the place to ourselves. Beautiful grounds and access to a private beach by several stairs (you can either walk about 15 mins or take your car 2 mins and there is parking for guests of the hotel). About 15 mins to Grand Bend one side and Bayfield on the other.
We loved the pool, the small private beach with reserved parking on the estate, how clean everything was and the grounds - as well as it being only a 14 minute drive into Grand Bend. We had Room 1 with 2 double beds and it was simple and comfy. You need water shoes if you are going to swim off the private beach and need to be able to go up and down steep wooden stairs. The room for hanging out is too hot and stuffy but it is nice they have it for playing Scrabble, etc. They dont do any late check outs so I had to check out at 11 and sit there to do a work meeting. Overall, we loved it! My sister and I had 2 very pleasant days and nights.
So many beautiful hidden gems on the property. Water features, gardens, lighting Dinner was absolutely delicious. I recommend the pork schnitzel and strawberries with cream. Also real coffee ! Great for couples Liz at the front desk was a treasure. We will be back !
Beautiful spot, I can see why it’s popular for weddings! Many lovely outdoor areas to explore, clean pool, although we didn’t eat here, dining room looked very nice. Room itself was clean - somewhat dated, thin walls -could hear people next door and in corridor, but wasn’t too bad.
The winery is within walking distance of the inn . It has a beautiful clean pool and very pleasant atmosphere! You can have a flight of wine at the restaurant and also buy wine to go if you miss the winery! The breakfast with large or 1/2 portions is a great idea! Dinner was delicious and nicely presented! Definitely will recommend and hope to be back !
This was a very beautiful hotel. It was clean. I especially loved the gardens and pool outdoors. There are not too many staff so you may have to wait a little which really wasn’t a problem for us. Very helpful and accommodating!
Great!
Great property great experience nothing really to complain about.
Great location.
Staff is amazing! The room’s bathroom had some mould on the ceiling. Needs some upgrading or at least new paint. The AC wasn’t working but luckily the weather was nice and we could leave the window open.
We liked quick and easy check in. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The rooms clean and have everything you need for a stay. There are dining facilities there, so we enjoyed our breakfast in the morning.
Beautiful property with access to private beach. Way better than staying right in Grand Bend, but its a short 10 min drive away. Winery and great restaurant on site. Incredible staff.
It was a beautiful spot that felt like you were in the european countryside wile being only a 10 minute drive from the beach. The grounds were amazing!
Only complaint is that I have not yet received my receipt, after they said that they had emailed it.
The winery tasting was nice
Very nice Inn, the property is beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet little get away this is the place to go. The only negative we had was that there was no where to just sit and play cards. The temperature of where we were allowed to sit was so hot that we couldn't stay long, the air conditioning was not on.
I like the winery area and wine tasting experience
Rioms are very old and washroom too Tight . During night it was too noisy from other rooms.
Always a great stay here !
Hotel was clean but do not book the room with the balcony. Usually when you book these types of rooms the bed is supposed to be on the top floor and the bottom is supposed to have the couch and sitting area but this hotel had the bed on the main floor which is very inconvenient for light sleepers. The exit door is right beside this room so everyone who exits the hotel exits at anytime they like. The hallway was very chatty even at 8am. We kept waking up to people opening the exit door and talking in the hotel.
I love this place because I was here long time ago with my kids when they were small and I brought them back to find and fill the family again. I am sorry that there are no more horses here. But there is still pond and love singing frogs❤️❤️ Room is nice but bathroom needs ventilation. It’s nice and If have chance I will come again.
We had a wonderful stay. The place was incredibly relaxing, with a fantastic amenities and view. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Thank you for a lovely, comfortable stay & excellent hospitality, surely next time will be coming back. Overall, I highly recommend this place for your next travel adventure.
