Spectacular ocean views surround this inn. Pleasant hosts and very good homemade breakfast completed this as a perfect package when looking for accommodations in PEI .
I'm giving the Inn two stars, because it has a lovely location with a beautiful view. Apart from that, this is a very noisy property where sleep is hard to come by. The bedroom walls are paper thin, through which every sound from other guests (banging doors, running water, bathroom fans, conversations) can be heard loud and clear. Sleep was hard to come by. Then there's the officious owners who love to boss you around: "No shoes allowed indoors!" "No hats allowed at breakfast!" "Don't sit there, that's a table for three, not two!" If you enjoy this kind of treatment while on vacation, you'll love this place!
The view was amazing, beautiful quiet spot. The owner and staff were wonderful. Breakfast was very good with homemade jam, I even got the recipe. Thankyou Mellanie! Amazing sunrise view from our room. Couldn't have had a better stay on PEI.
Beautiful rooms and views, friendly and accommodating! Very comfortable room and it felt like home!
If I were to write a book, it would be there, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. We were there in September but it would be perfect for families with the children having an immense expanse of playing fields. Highly recommend.
The room was roomy, clean and with a good view of the ocean. The dinner was excellent. The proprietors were professional and friendly. The adjacent shoreline walk in both directions was beautiful.
My wife and I had a magical time at JSI. Not only were Mel and Dave incredibly welcoming, but we had some fantastic conversations over wine with the other Inn guests. Their cat and 2 dogs bring addional charm and warmth to the property. The cat even accompanied us on our evening walk! Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and hearty. The view from our room faced the sunrise and had an incredible moon view in the evening! The sound of the ocean waves and wind were beautiful. We did read a recent review about hospitality for those under 50… we are both under 50 and were treated with respect and kindness. A beautiful Inn, with beautiful folks! Only regret is not staying longer!!!
No tv or radio.
Très bon service et excellente nouriture
If you are under the age of 50 be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen. To be clear if we could rate the one employee we encountered, a lovely woman who checked us in and spoke with us like human beings several times we would give the staff/service 5 stars. At least she greeted us! The owner Melanie didn't even raise her head. We felt unwanted from the moment we walked in to the point we wanted to leave and forfeit our money. Unfortunately the owner is a pretentious and condescending woman who seemed to have forgotten we paid $667 for 2 nights. My husband sat down for breakfast and was told to remove his hat, like we were dining at a fine dining establishment. Michelin-star dining it was NOT. Beware this is advertised as an Inn but is more like a shared rooming house. There are no microwaves, bar fridges or TVs in the rooms. It is a large home roomed out and ideal for 50+ adults who look rich. Funny thing is, my husband and I certainly aren't poor and had we been treated like paying clientele instead of children, we may have returned and/or referred others. The view is gorgeous there. That is the only positive we have to add. Sadly because we were ignored and made to feel unwelcome by the owner, the only time we spent what we over-paid for was to sleep. Next time we visit PEI we will pay the same amount for a proper hotel with owners who treat ALL CLIENTS with respect and care.
Lovely inm located in an amazing landscape. Big and comfortable rooms and beds.
We enjoyed our stay, the view is magnificent! Beautiful sunset and sunrise, we enjoyed watching a couple of seals playing in the ocean.
Staying at the Johnson Shore Inn truly felt like a home away from home. We especially enjoyed winding down each day in the cozy dining room, savouring delicious meals and great conversations with fellow guests. Our room was beautifully decorated, peaceful, and offered a perfect place to relax. The breakfast was enormous and delicious! The setting is stunning—perched on red cliffs with breathtaking sunsets every evening. Mel and Dave are fantastic chefs, so be sure to include at least one dinner during your stay (we were lucky to enjoy three!). A special highlight was the evening we were treated to oysters and bubbly before dinner—such a thoughtful touch. The spacious dining area offers individual tables for each party, so there's no need to worry about communal seating if that’s not your style. Don’t hesitate to book this charming inn—you’ll arrive as guests and leave feeling like part of the family.
The location is absolutely perfect, so picturesque and the owners are friendly. I loved it!
Beautiful vista. Nice, clean rooms/house. Great breakfast. Nice hosts
Exceptional.
Be prepared for not having a TV in the room.
We were very pleased with our stay and well taken care of. The room was very clean and comfortable. If we are back in the area, we would not hesitate to book again. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful with our travel arrangements.
The inn is on a stunning piece of property overlooking the ocean with beautiful views both in and out of the inn. The owners of the inn are incredibly kind and helpful. Breakfast was delicious!. We loved our room. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and well-furnished. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.
The innkeepers were fabulous -- welcoming, attentive, helpful, great and interesting conversationists. Our stay was exemplary in every way. We dined on-property and our meals was likewise fabulous. The location is wonderful -- awesomely scenic. We regretted we stayed for two days -- three would be allowed more time to explore PEI.
Dave and Mel made us feel like we we were family and not guests. We wished that we had scheduled more than one night to truly enjoy the beautiful property.
Super cool location, very personal stuffs and services.
Supper was amazing! Very welcoming. We didn’t want to leave! :D
This is a beautiful PEI accommodation, with friendly and helpful hosts, and convenient access to exploring the region. Highly recommend this accommodation, but caution those with mobility challenges as there are a lot of stairs to access the upper level rooms, so this may not be an option, if mobility or stairs are a concern. If traveling outside of summer or peak tourist season, there are limited dining options in the area. Although the host will provide a home cooked dinner with some notice, there are still limitations on this service, and it may not fit all. Complimentary breakfast was provided at this location, and the hosts gave many wonderful choices, and guests could select as many or as few items as wanted to feel satisfied. Everything was delicious and served with great care.
We are not normally B&B people but the drone shot sold us on it. Mel and Dave keep their property spotless and are wonderful hosts. We did not eat dinner there but Mel recommended The Boathouse about 15 minutes away. It was awesome. Breakfast was good and afterward we walked along the coastline. Beautiful.
The property is situated at a beautiful setting, quiet and peaceful. The hosts were very friendly and attentive to details. The breakfast was great, tailored and handcrafted. Very nice stay, I wish I could spend more time at the property.
Spectacular cliff side location, spacious and comfortable accommodations along with friendly hosts Dave and Melanie made our visit to Prince Edward Island memorable.
Rooms are clean, spacious, and well furnished. Owners and staff are friendly and unassuming. Breakfast was excellent!
Melanie and Dave, and their staff, offer a high quality of hospitality and comfort in a unique and stunning property with a spectacular North shore vista.... Think Red Cliffs / big sky /beautiful lawn and hotel and the ever present sound of the Gulf of the saint Lawrence .
Stunning view from ocean and cliff, you have to view the sunset for once at this location! The staff are super nice and helpful. We enjoy the stay every minute!
Great setting in a beautiful area. Great value and service. Really enjoyed our stay thank you so much. Sorry we missed Fave and Mel, they had some very nice folks fill. Hope to see them next time!
My mum and I had a wonderful stay at The Johnson Shore Inn. The owners were kind and helpful, the breakfasts the cooked each morning were delicious and the vibe they created was warm and welcoming. The most most impressive part was the scenery and landscape. The house is located in the most beautiful corner of PEI overlooking the ocean and beautiful red cliffs. Waking up to see the sunrise over the ocean was a magical experience.
Beside the bay. You can fishing at backyard. Beautiful sea view outside of the window.
Spectacular setting. Friendly, attentive hosts.
What a gem! We felt like we were visiting friends. Mell and Dave were wonderful hosts, and the setting was absolutely beautiful. The breakfasts (cooked by Dave) were delicious, and Mell’s dinners were amazing. Don’t miss the opportunity to relax at, and enjoy, this lovely inn.
Absolutely beautiful place. The owners, room and view were very nice. Food was amazing, and the sunrise on the bluff was unquestionably the most beautiful view ive ever seen. The road to the inn was long and muddy. But if you need to relax and recharge you emotional battery this place is it.
Secluded large oceanfront property. Great hosts and relaxing environment.
Gorgeous Location/Breathtaking view looking out over Gulf of St. Lawrence Great Food Wonderful Hosts
My daughter and I very much enjoyed our stay at the inn. Our hosts did a wonderful job making the place very relaxing and conducive to conversations with our fellow travelers. I would highly recommend the dinner service. We stayed 3 nites and very much enjoyed Mel's cooking each nite. Same goes for breakfast.
Bottom line, absolutely wonderful hospitality from Mel and Dave, even during a category 4 hurricane! First, this bed and breakfast is situated nearby the red cliffs of PEI, and we were stunned by the beauty visible from our room. Even walking to the front door, beautiful island vistas greeted us. Second, after a VERY long day of travel or adventure, family-style house-made dinners are ready for us every evening, which rivaled any restaurant in town. What a splendid way to end a day! After a restful night listening to the waves crashing against the cliffs, all of the guests could come downstairs to enjoy coffee together and a delicious breakfast (again, family-style, loved it!) to energize you to enjoy the Island! On our second day, Hurricane Fiona hit the Island, with 90mph winds where this inn was located. The building withstood firmly and our hosts, Mel and Dave, made the house a warm and comforting reprieve, even when eating family-style by candlelight! We could not have chosen better and recommend anyone visiting PEI to stay at Johnson Shore Inn.
The Johnson Shore Inn was a highlight of our trip to PEI. The view was spectacular, and we got a taste of life on the island. One night, they built a bonfire for us. Another, we splurged on supper. We highly recommend--the food is worth it! Be sure to plan to be present at sunrise and sunset. It is beautiful.
The weather was not the best for enjoying the location. The place was very comfortable. My only negative was that all rooms were upstairs was not easy when you have two suitcases to lug.
Picturesque. Excellent dinner provided as optional add-on. Suggest coaching staff on customer service during meals.
Beautiful secluded property off the beaten path. Lovely, comfortable inn
Incredibly friendly owners, very pretty and comfortable rooms overlooking the ocean and a gorgeous property with no light pollution!
Absolutely stunning location and every bit as breathtaking as the pictures. My friend and I arrived late and got a call from Dave who left us a nice note and instructed us how we could let ourselves in. We stayed in room 5 which had a Queen and twin bed and a partial ocean view. What we loved: extremely clean, home-like atmosphere, lovely plentiful breakfast, cliffside location with stunning views, so quiet and peaceful, the perfect place to take a retreat! Dave was also a welcoming host who went out of his way to make things right when our luggage was mixed up with another guest’s and we had to drive to a nearby motel to get it back. What could be better: when you walk in, you are asked to leave your shoes on the rack and don house slippers from a basket of shared, used slippers. It would have felt cleaner and more hygienic to have a pair of new disposable hotel slippers for each guest. There was also no conditioner provided in the bathroom so we had to go without. The sheets on the Queen were lovely and smooth but the sheets on the twin were a bit rough for my taste.
No tv
The views are incredible to wake up to. The owners were very friendly. The drive in is long and bumpy but worth it!
The setting on the coast is amazing. Super clean, and good food.
Great place to relax, friendly and welcoming staff
What a lovely place, beautiful view of the ocean, the property owners were attentive and friendly, food was great, room was great, I highly recommend this place!
A unique home away from home experience with the most beautiful sunsets you could ask for. Gracious, accommodating hosts, comfy beds, good food and east coast ambience. The sea breezes cool your room at night and the unobstructed views are beyond spectacular. Well worth the drive!
I absolutely loved my stay here. The owners were fantastic hosts, friendly and welcoming. I didn't have dinner while there, but the breakfast was delicious and available for a reasonable amount of time whether you are an early riser or like to sleep in. The property surrounding the house is gorgeous, with many spots to sit and watch the sun rise and set (Bring Bug Spray Though!). I had the small double room which was very clean, and had an incredible view. I look forward to potentially staying here again in the future.
Fits the area and the people.
Nice hosts, very clean and Nice views
Felt like staying with friends - made-to-order breakfast with peaceful view of the lobster fishermen in the bay and gathering around a firepit after dinner getting to know the other guests. The charm of the Inn is in its remote location, but this did require scenic drives around the island to visit the wonderful riches of PEI.
Fantastic property with awesome hosts who manage to create an atmosphere such that you become quick friends with them all the other guests. The views are stunning and the location is really unique. A remote place that could be a setting for a mystery movie or play! :)
Friendly hosts, great views, lovely walks, good food. Glad we had our vehicle.
relaxed atmosphere welcoming hosts comfortable clean rooms excellent breakfast
Amazing hospitality and beautiful views are how I’d describe my stay here. Mellanie and Dave are very inviting and always up for a friendly chat. Their dog Jonsey is always up for a friendly walk around the property. A great stay and looking forward to next time.
Amazing location. Dave & Mellanie made us feel so welcome. Met some really nice/interesting people. Breakfast & dinner could not have been better - both Dave & Mell are really good cooks. One of the best/friendliest Bed & breakfast places we have ever stayed at. A definite 10 out of 10. Thank you Dave & Mellanie
Don’t hesitate and book a stay ! My friend and I spent one short fantastic night at the Johnson Shore Inn. Dave and Melanie are just wonderful people who make you feel like you’re part of the family as soon as you arrive. The inn is built in a secluded (but not too secluded), secure and comforting part of PEI. The Inn and everything about our room was clean and fresh. The beds were also very confortable. When we arrived, Mel arranged a diner for us in Souris. We were able to return in time for the most beautiful sunset we’ve seen. Breakfast was deliciously fresh and tasty. Their dog and cat were super friendly and not at all bothersome. Finally, the internet was very fast, we could easily do a Zoom call. Thanks again for the lovely stay, until next time !
Do not be put off by your first sight of the drive way to Johnson Shore Inn. It is worth driving. Mel and Dave (the owners) are welcoming and wonderful and the setting can't be beat. We did a walk along the bluffs both in the evening and in the morning and it was amazing. The red rock bluffs, with the waves crashing below and the view out into the Gulf. We both walked along the top and scrambling over the rocks on the beach. Admittedly, the wind off the ocean was chilly (it was still early May) but you dress for it. And Mel & Dave served us a lobster supper (extra cost, of course), which they ate with us and 2 other guests at the same table (we could have had our own table, if we had wanted). It included a lesson on how to eat a whole lobster and lots of local information. In all, the stay way exceeded our expectations.
Incroyable endroit avec des hôtes exceptionnels !
Great property, location, food, and company(people and pets) only wish my stay was longer. Cannot wait to return! Thanks Mell and Dave!
This was the nicest b and b I have ever stayed at. Amazing views of the ocean, gourmet cook for breakfast and dinner (when available), great comfortable beds and spotless clean rooms. The hosts were professional, yet friendly and extremely accommodating. I felt at home in the informal and comfortable main room with a warm fire each night. PEI is a great place to visit, The Johnson Sore Inn is THE place to stay. We will be back!
Beautiful views of the ocean.
L’endroit, la vue, les hôtes, le déjeuner, tout était parfait!
Beautiful inn, stunning location! Dave and Mel were so friendly and welcoming, and we loved the inn dog and cats, too. I have never been so sad to leave a place.
I am so glad we stayed several nights. One night would not have been enough 😁. Breakfasts were delicious and our hosts made us feel welcome. A daily fixed menu dinner is offered and we went one evening. Mel’s homemade feta cheese on the salad was amazing! Dave and Mel did everything possible to make this a memorable stay. Mel even baked a chocolate cake for my husbands birthday. We were equally fond of Jonesy, the resident lab as well as the family cats. Our mornings were spent outside on the verandah with coffee, joined by friendly pets.
The Johnson Shore Inn combines breathtaking views with exceptional service. We had a wonderful time under Mel and Dave’s care, and we’re so sad to leave. We especially had a soft spot for Jonesy, the inn dog. Breakfast was great, and the views can’t be beat. We’ll definitely be back!
It was difficult to find, but it was worth it! Amazing views, a friendly labrador (Mr Johnsie) who goes on walk with you, a quiet place place with brand new bathroom and a fireplace that makes you feel at home.... David was the perfect host. I am looking forward to go back....
It was comfortable and relaxing and our hosts are very interesting people.
The property is very clean. Lovely view. Host are super friendly. Looking forward to going again next year.
Hospitable and cozy - amazing home away from home. Would go back again
nice and cozy B&B , great food! only drawback is the long and muddy driveway, good thing we had rental car! Unfortunately it was raining, so we could not enjoy the waterfront like we had hoped
Everything was perfect. We really enjoyed every moment.
In keepers Dave and Mell were the perfect hosts. Kind and thoughtful. Mell puts on the most wonderful dinners made up of local sourced seafood and veggies. The wine keeps flowing! A quiet getaway. A very unique property and awesome hosts. Oh, and the breakfast! Yes, we will return!
the property was gorgeous. dave was friendly & easygoing. Jones was awesome. Mell seemed pretty stressed out frantic at times. while dave said it would be fine to walk on the 1st floor with our shoes as long as we didn't come from the beach, mell had a strict no shoes on 1st floor policy- which led to us getting lectured despite getting the ok from dave. probably a miscommunication between the two of them, but it made for an uncomfortable stay with different rules being laid out at different times... Jones was awesome all day long, though.
Beautiful location, friendly hosts and a lovely room. We took advantage of a dinner that was offered by the hosts and really enjoyed our time there.
Personal attention of the staff. We were welcomed like old friends.
Not enough can be said about the location of the Johnson Shore Inn. The hosts were also great and the rooms were very clean.
Melanie and Dave are wonderful, friendly inn keepers with their friendly staff.
Just go ! Great people awesome location ! You’ll love it ... we’re coming back !
Beautiful view of sunset and sunrise. Lovely room, and shower. Comfy bed. Beautiful yard with chairs placed for the best ocean views.
The Inn is in a remote location but the scenery is fabulous and well worth the visit. The room that we had was well appointed with windows that faced the ocean. The owners are extremely personable and they make all the guests feel at home. The meals are from a limited daily menu but everything is very well prepared and delicious. The Inn is hard to find, but once found you will never forget it.
Beautiful location, very clean and the hosts were wonderful
Amazing views of Ocean Cliffs from room and on property-- good breakfast / Inn is isolated but only 15 -20 min drive to nearest town -- good beaches
The location is amazing, rooms comfortable and clean, good breakfast included. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The place was breathtaking. It would have been great if they had an AC. It was the hottest week.
The Johnson Shore Inn was amazing! From the beautiful location to the wonderful hosts to the delicious food, we could not be happier with our stay. We hope to return again one day!
Beautiful location. Mel and Dave very nice Breakfast was good.
The owners, were veryFriendly owners, charming location
The view from the room was amazing. The room was very clean and nice.
Beautiful home. Food us fabulous and the hosts treat you like long missed friends. Scenery is second to none. I would give lived to stay longer. Lots of exploring along the coast. I can't say enough goods things about the warm atmosphere. Thanks for everything Mel and Dave. We will be back.
Clean rooms, excellent food, Mel & Dave are the best !!
Loved our stay at Johnson Shore Inn! Felt at home from the start. Mellanie & Dave were wonderful hosts! The property is absolutely beautiful. My room was spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet. Sitting outside with a glass of wine watching the sun go down was heavenly. Breakfast was delicious too! My only complaint was we only booked for one night! We will be back!!
This property has wrap around view of the ocean. It is very peaceful and relaxing. The owners are very friendly. In the morning we watched the Eagles flying above the property. In the evening we sat outside watching the ocean. This is truly relaxing and I enjoyed the scenery . The little tow is about 10 minutes by car. We went in early June so restaurants close early.
Best stay of our trip, so far. Mel and Dave are superb hosts and great cooks!! We had a beautiful view of the sea in our comfortable guest room. We felt like we were life-long friends from the moment we arrived. Mary and I roamed the beach from the back yard, found sea glass and watched the eagles fly. A perfect place to relax and enjoy life. Thanks for the great lobster dinner.
Always a pleasure to return year after year . Feels like a home away from home . Dave and Mel are excellent hosts who are generous with their time and knowledge of the area .
