Location was perfect, was clean, peaceful and quiet
The woman at the reception was a bit rude, started to argue...
Pleasant staff in a good location with good options for meals. Etc
Staff very friendly and helpful. Evening meal and breakfast...food simple but good. Very good value for money
Large numbers of flies in kitchen
Beautiful building from the outside but a little tired inside.
The flies! There were flies everywhere, especially in the self catering kitchen in the Coach House where there was no screen on the window. There were flies crawling over all the work surfaces, table and floor which was disgusting. The lighting in the common rooms was very bad and it made it impossible to read.
There are different rooms, like reading rooms and dining rooms, games rooms... Which can suit individual needs
There are too many flies in the venue
- restaurant top - accueil - chambre spacieuse - beaucoup de wc disponibles
Beaucoup de mouches dans la cuisine à disposition ; des vacanciers pas très propres qui ne rangent pas leurs vaisselles
Handsome building conveniently situated amongst Peak District highlights, with decent food options, organised staff and powerful warm showers.
Flies, price and damp smell in the room.
Nice reception check in and the place was pretty the coffees and food were good
Flies which I understand it's a working farm but I thought the amount around food was unacceptable.
Beautiful and convenient location. Restaurant was pleasant and lovely general overall feel.
Rooms and bedding were clean apart from beds had not been hoovered under for a while. The property is trying to deal with them so absolutely not a bad thing against them but the fly situation is pretty annoying.
Lovely location and perfect stopover for our trip to alton towers
Nothing to dislike. Lovely staff and food and the room is what I expected to suit 2 adults and 4 kids
Fab location and beautiful setting and building.
Not much. All good
there was not internet connection, No electricity . too hot or too cold because of no electricity
No electricity facilities inside the tent
The location was fantastic, the building absolutely beautiful. The staff always smiling, pleasant and helpful. Our room was too hot so we asked for a fan at reception and the young lad went out of his way to find one for us. LOVED seeing all the kitties on site!
We don't wish to give the impression that we have anything against working farms, but this working farm was waaaayyy to close to the accommodation and self catering kitchen facilities for our comfort. Our window was a stones throw away from an open barn and we couldn't have the window open for all the flies and the smell. We thought that was bad enough, until we saw that the kitchen was about 30 meters from the open barn. The flies were HORRENDOUS. I had planned on cooking but there's no way I could have cooked and served food safely without getting flies in it. Even with the door shut they were getting in, and I mean it looked like a horror movie, not just a few flies. Changing the door access codes daily seems a little too much, people were trying to get in the kitchen the morning after their stay and couldn't get in, so they were pinning the door open with the bin, and people trying to use the kitchen were also pinning the door open to try and let the flies out!! We will not be returning unfortunately, this really put us off. We left pretty sharpish in the morning. I would suggest having the kitchen a bit further away from the barn, understand there'd be a cost to this but would be worth it for the loss of return business. Also consider changing the code weekly, not daily.
Great location. Amazing place. Easy and authentic. We reserved a landpod. The kids loved it. We had a very restful time.
Very friendly, clean and suited all types of travellers
Great YHA, is beautiful setting and gorgeous little village. Stayed in a tent this time is really fun stay.
Nothing.
Great location (ideal for Alton Towers) , very comfortable, very helpful staff.
We paid extra for breakfast and it was a bit sparse.
location close to Alton towers
wifi bit hit and miss
Nombreuses salles de détente et jeux
Manque d’entretien des locaux
Nice area
They have wifi but no signal what so ever, usually wouldn’t be bothered but I couldn’t even get in contact with any of my family, staff had quite a rude tone and there were beetles all over our room. We had to leave 3 days early payed £300 and regret every penny!!!!
Location is fantastic, gorgeous building, food and bar on site.
Room had cobwebs around the toilet and bottom of the sink, carpet hadn’t been hoovered, I’ve been coming here for years and noticed this time small things like the bar has stopped selling locally sourced ales and was told the 1 remaining hand pump was going 😞 breakfast wasn’t as good as usual.
Beautiful place. Wish we were staying longer. Just an overnight stay before heading to alton towers. Everyones super friendly and helpful
No negatives
Lovely location, village picturesque
Hundreds of flies were in the very small communal kitchen- all over the food and the kitchen was just dirty. The fridge had gone off food in from beginning of July we went beginning of august. The bathrooms were just as bad.
My cappuccino was very good! The location is gorgeous, and the staff were so friendly. Really lovely stay. The cafe/restaurant was so pretty, and it was nice to sit and read on the sofas in the evening too.
The bedroom was a bit small, but that didn’t matter too much as we were only staying one night.
The hostel is located in a great part of the Peak District, with beautiful scenery and walking trails right on your doorstep. The parking lot is large, the staff are friendly and helpful, the food is tasty, and there are comfortable seating areas throughout to sit and chat with friends. The dormitory rooms are comfortable and the showers are hot.
Stayed for the Dovedale Dipper and there were a few others there for it too. Bus stop right outside, beds so comfy and shower in room.
The veggie curry was so-so but I’m used to authentic Indian food.
Beautiful place and great customer service.
Bell tent.
Old crowd. Tent smell like fart (when we left).
Value for money was very good. £60 per night in peak season for 4 was excellent. Comfy beds and lovely duvets and pillows. Bathrooms were clean. Staff were lovely and friendly. The whole place had a nice chilled vibe.
Being next to a farm, the flies were obviously present. Worse in the morning.
Lovely and family place. I was very pleased that I stayed at the very nice Bonnie Prince Charlie's room. Very comfortable, cosy, clean and well presented.
Nothing.
Staff were lovely. Beautiful building and garden.
The stairs were very creaky, and doors would slam constantly. No WiFi in room, and no signal for data either.
Location, restaurant/bar, the building and adjacent area, hiking trails' variety and description in the hostel. The dorm had just one other person , and that was a pleasant surprise!
Absence of TV at least in the communal places. Absence of Wi-Fi in the room. Absence of towels.
Hartington Hall is a great location for walks in the Peak District. The village of Hartington is very quaint with lovely pubs and village shops. YHA itself offers fantastic facilities at an affordable price. It is very clean and the staff are lovely. I’d highly recommend and will be staying again.
Great shower, comfy bed, lovely size room. Location friendly staff
Cracked sink, stained armchair in lounge. I understand this is difficult with limited funds.
Location history
Room basic and very dated ,self catering kitchen not big enough for amount staying nice grounds
The overall appearance of the building inside and out.
Member's kitchen felt neglected and not restocked with crockery for breakfast. The cereal bowls were far too small.
Beautiful youth hostel and v friendly staff. Excellent value for money.

Beautiful location, Very chill Loads of space

Location, toilets are fine.
No fans in the room, it was too hot for the Summer. The shower room was too smelly.
Excellent for a YH. All you need for a nights stay as a base to explore Bed, Beer and Food.
Das Haus und die Lage
Mein Zimmer war sehr klein und lag unmittelbar angrenzend an eine Etagentoillette. Dafür war der Preis von über 80£ zu hoch.
The location of the tha was excellent especially for walks and Exploring the Countryside

Excellent place to stay. Beautiful hall and very historic. Looks great for families too
Nothing to say
Brilliant facilities
Breakfast was more expensive than the room charge
It was lovely and clean the staff were all welcoming and kind ☺️
Nothing, it was all good ☺️
Beautiful building right in the heart of the peaks. Bike storage was great too.
The male dorm room is in the attic, and this meant it was incredibly hot (it had been 30 degrees in the day, not ferociously hot but worth acknowledging). It'd probably be fine if you're in a smaller room, but avoid the dorms in the summer.
The location was very special, tranquil and beautiful - lovely walks and near to the village with just enough facilities - shops/pubs/cafes.
The cakes were a bit expensive. I felt the menu generally could be a bit broader - more vegetarian/vegan/gluten free and healthy options.
All members of staff very warm and made you feel welcome .good base for cycling the local area .
The location, the friendly staff, the grounds, the bar and restaurant
Bunk bed headboard felt a bit uncomfortable. Could have been more comfy with 2 pillows
The location and the garden
The staff was overwhwlmed and at times rude. The room was too hot. It was also not good value for money, the matress was bad. If YHA charges hotel prices, it needs to up the quality too. The cooked breakfast was underwhelming at best.
Lovely part of the world and the building was steeped in history. We were given the attic room which was enormous and loved that it had the original beams from when the house was built! Very convenient and budget friendly option for visiting Alton Towers. The restaurant and bar were a bonus too. Had a great wee village store only 2 mins walk away.
Mobile phone signal was non existent. WiFi wasnt the best either and could only be reached in certain communual parts of the hostel which was fine for us adults but our teens were less than impressed. Lol 😅
The history.
Gorgeous old hall in a very picturesque village and close to so many trails. My single room also had its own bathroom. Very affordable. Most affordable place I stayed during my trip.
Limited food choices in the village. Reserve ahead if you want to eat at the pub. No laundry facilities available.
Great building
Very welcoming and friendly staff
All okay nice surroundings
I was in room 2 Creaky floor above kept me awake constant walking about
It was my first visit, there. In a beautiful area, visited the ancient parish church to hear and see campanilogists, in action. Also, look at the resting-places "inside" the church. There is a village, there, and there are scenic walks from the road the Hall IS next to. Not like Peaks, different altogether. Beds are comfortable with stone- mullioned windows. When we were there there were many families with children. A Breakfast lounge with multiple dining areas around it. We stayed in gender-specific dorms, but for £18, we had a bargain. It looks totally isolated, there is a pub in the village. Beautiful sunset, for us, too. Adequate car park. I would visit again, but for longer.
Nothing, it is what it is.
Great
Charming, spacious and welcoming
Quirky, comfortable and fun
Beautiful location, friendly staff, super peaceful, amazing walks on the doorstep, cosy cafe and lounges, warm and comfy rooms. Had a great night :)
Staff Cafe Location Room
WIFI not available in the Coach house
Excellent location
Toilet door lock was broken. Wasn't fixed even after reported. Taps don't have mixers. So had to use either too hot or too cold water.
Everything.
Some French students were very noisy and loud, they should have been disciplined.
Its location and friendly staff

Nice atmosphere.
Piekny stary klimat ,,w srodku czysto I obsluga bardzo mila, moja rodzina byla zachwycona
Location and good bargain price.
Mattress terribly uncomfortable and I happen to get stuck with the absolutely loudest snoring man above me. I did not get any sleep at all that night and ended up cutting my two day weekend visit short by 1 day.
Amazing value, great facilities and staff. The location is perfect for accessing lots of walks. Really clean room, I booked a private room without an ensuite but it did have a sink and shower.
Beautiful place in a great location, staff were lovely and welcoming. Room was adequate and good value I had an en-suite which I wasn’t expecting, Food too was good! Highly recommend booking your stay here! Definitely would book here again.
N/A :) a fantastic place to stay highly recommend
Location Catering facilities. Staff.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Toilets were a bit dirty and one door had no lock on my level
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Hartington is a lovely, scenic, peaceful area to stay in when looking for a break from the busy city life. Best hostel I've stayed at. Also, walks down the River Dove are a must when you're here.
Nice atmosphere.
No TV in room.
Farm adjacent. Good staff, amazing location.
No lock on toilet door, LED lights by bed too light that they disturb those in other beds
Liked everything, beautiful location, nice and clean hostel, good dinner & breakfast menu. We'll be back!
Lovely building and excellent location, great value for money. Most of the staff were very lovely and friendly. Nice to have a shower and a sink in the room.
One of the shared toilets upstairs didn’t have a lock, so people didn’t use it, and consequently everyone used the one right next to my bedroom, which can be disturbing several times at night (the head end of my bed was right next to the wall). Parking is a bit small and awkward.
Such a beautiful hostel. Bathrooms and toilets were spotless and nicely presented. I stayed in Bonnie Prince Charlie's room which was simply magical with the original oak panelling dating back to the 17th century. The bed was super comfy and the room was clean and warm. I loved it, and would definitely stay again.
Very friendly, accommodating, great breakfast
In places could do with a lick of paint
Comfortable and very private room in one of the out buildings
All was perfect
