The staff at the hotel were absolutely lovely, both in the reception and the restaurant. I had dinner in the restaurant and it was really good. The room was a good size and very quiet.

The room feels a bit neglected. Heavily discoloured pillows and paint flaking around the window.

Convenient overnight stop. The interior is better than the exterior and I received a friendly welcome. The room was fine for one night, the bed was comfortable. Free and plentiful parking. I didn't eat there.

No plugs or lights near the bed. Slightly run down but clean enough and suitable for an overnight stop.

Nice little hotel. We spent one night in the family room and it was very spacious, very big double bed, very clean and with chocolates/tea and coffee available. Lots of parking and the staff was super friendly. Very good value for money.

The decor was like going back to the 90’s. Pillows were flat, shower was awful, water had ran out at 6pm when we tried to use it. No soundproofing at all, woken up several times through the night with loud guests walking down the hallway.

Suited us being a train ride into Glasgow ... And not being right in the city. Breakfast was excellent.

Bathroom facilities ie shower and toilet had a couple of 'moments' ... But ok overall.

Si può richiedere l'aggiunta della colazione che è buona e della cena, noi abbiamo fatto ritardo a causa del traffico e il ristorante dell'hotel nonostante per il nostro orario di arrivo la cucina fosse chiusa ci ha lasciato zuppa, panini e patatine da parte per farci mangiare ugualmente. Considerate comunque che entro le 20 la cucina chiude.

Niente, perché le foto rispecchiavano la realtà e sapevamo che per avere un buon prezzo l'hotel sarebbe stato un po' datato

Reasonable-sized room with ensuite. Working wi-fi. Walking distance from railway station. Kettle in room. no fridge but the staff were happy to store my Faroese smoked salmon in the kitchen fridge. OK food on offer in hotel restaurant.

The weather!

The staff were exceptionally kind, friendly and welcoming. Their warmth and hospitality really made a positive difference to my stay. The food in the hotel restaurant was lovely, and I thoroughly enjoyed my meals there. Overall, I had a pleasant stay and appreciated the welcoming atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the shower and bath water was only lukewarm rather than properly hot. I wanted to have a bath but eventually had to boil water in the kettle and add it to the bath to make it warm enough. I appreciate this may have been an issue specific to my room or during my particular stay, but reliable hot water is an important basic facility. One slightly unusual thing happened on my first night. The bathroom has a translucent skylight, and at night I noticed what appeared to be the shadow of a person on the other side of it. As I was travelling alone, I found it a little unsettling at the time and took a photograph. By the following morning, however, the shadow had completely disappeared. I’m sure there was a perfectly innocent explanation, perhaps something outside or simply the way the light was falling, so I don’t want to speculate. I didn’t raise it with the hotel during my stay, but thought it was worth mentioning in case there is an obvious explanation.

The bedrooms were big, the bed was lovely. The service here is exceptional. You’re treated like family. The food is delicious. What a place.

My sister and I were impressed with the reception staff, especially Celine who was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again.

Plenty of parking. Staff pleasant and helpful. The room proceeds was on the ground level which was a welcome break from having to cart bags up and down stairs. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Coffee, tea, hairdryer, iron etc also provided in the room. Bathroom was clean with a combined bath / shower provided. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, I found it far better than the expected normal pub food and at a good price. A good and varied menu, i can highly recommend the Haggis and mash, and my guest had the Cajun chicken which she also said was very good. I can also recommend the breakfast, a great selection to be had. I had the home made porridge with fruit and honey, which was also very good.

Very little, though close to the main road our room was at the back so we had no traffic noise, maybe if you were in a room facing the road it may have been affected by the traffic noise.

Due to the Commonwealth Games 2026 our initial stop Glasgow was pretty much booked out. So our choice fell to Abbotsford Hotel and it a proofed to be a great and lucky choice. Glasgow can be reached easily by train (or bus) with the train station within walking distance (approx. 10 minutes, bus stop just across the road). We felt welcome and comfortable in every way. The room was clean and beds were great. The ladies at reception were very helpful with advises and information, Mr. Tom on his nightshifts was great to talk to - we both seem to be nightsowls;-) While dining at the restaurant having our very first (and wonderful) haggis the chef provided us with unexpected information which would make every Formula 1 fan happy. Thanks to all of you for a wonderful stay:-)

An excellent hotel, good food, good staff, and a brilliant location as my friend lives next street down.

I was a little dismayed during my stay that fire alarms went off at 540am in the morning and there were no staff to greet us as to where to go, I was also dissapointed that a man had to hold his new born baby in the rain, of which he had to use my vehicle to shelter.

Just had 4 nights here whilst visiting family. Very clean, comfortable hotel with large airy bedrooms. Breakfast was offered on check in, at a reduced price, great selection and plentiful the “Stoater” was just what we needed to set us up for the day. Choice of evening meals also offered a great selection, our favourites being, Pork tenderloin in a mushroom sauce, smoked haddock and salmon pasta in a white wine sauce ( delicious) and chicken and chorizo in a spicy sauce with linguini, portions were generous and reasonably priced. The staff at this hotel are so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, all so smiley and happy 😊 Will definitely use this hotel again

The reception staff, morning staff, and one of the bar staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was great and the other meals were good too. The room was quiet and clean, and the bar had a reasonable selection of beers, whiskies etc.

Being harrassed to book a table for lunch only to find that in a room with 10 tables no one else turned up for four hours. Some of the staff are rather curt, verging on rude, which is a shame because other staff were very nice.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room overall looked lovely, was clean with good facilities. We really appreciated the tunnocks goodies instead of the usual biscuits. We had dinner in the restaurant and the menu was varied and the standard fantastic. Breakfast was decent enough and at a good price. Plenty of parking available. As others have said, don't be put off by the unusal exterior, if anything it adds to the quirkiness.

The property looks deceptive from the outside, but once you enter the door it is cosy and welcoming , the staff are very friendly,polite and welcoming, The rooms are well equipped,maintained ,warm and comfortable, the breakfast is excellent, Would I stay here again? Most definitely, it’s better than the chain hotel up the road.

In my room there was no sockets at the headboard end of the bed for charging your phone and using it as an alarm, the sockets were behind the TV on the other side of the room. The noise from the road , was what awoke me instead.

Hotel was the ideal location for us. Reasonably priced. Clean rooms & nice staff. Evening meals were very nice as was breakfast. A little outdated but we had everything we needed.

We were charged the full breakfast price for a 2 year old who ate 1 small box of cereal each morning. Little disappointing.

A bit of a timewarp, but in a good way in lots of respects. Friendly, helpful staff, a great breakfast and clean rooms. The family rooms, in particular, are excellent, with two adjoining rooms (one double/twin, one bunk beds) each with their own bathroom with full bath. The hotel is more of a motel, with rooms all on one level and then a restaurant, bar and function room attached. The only downside, and it affected my wife more than me, is that the bed wasn't very comfortable with a hard mattress you could feel the springs through. Change the mattress and I'd be back in a flash.

Absolutely outstanding hotel. A 15 minute walk to the train station which has great links to many areas. The food was great, both at breakfast and at lunch and dinner. The room was more than adequate and had a great bathroom. Most importantly, the staff we're exceptional friendly, always with a smile on their face and willing to help in whatever way they could. It is clear to see that it is an exceptionally well run hotel

The cold water pressure wasn't ideal in the bathroom, but this was a very small issue and had no impact on our stay

A good hotel for my short four-night stay while I attended the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. I chose this hotel for it's great location as it's located only a 15 minute walk away from Dumbarton East Station which has direct, frequent trains to/from Glasgow. The staff here are extremely friendly and my room was big and spacious. My bed was very comfy and my room felt very cosy, the decor is definitely dated, but it's what I expected. Breakfast was amazing with plenty of choice on the menu and the food served at the restaurant in the evening is also great.

There are unfortunately a few things I don't like about the hotel. Firstly, the soundproofing in my room was pretty terrible. I could easily hear TVs on and conversations happening in the rooms next door and in the corridor. The Wi-Fi was absolutely abysmal since it kept cutting out for the entire duration of my stay. The bedside plug socket was a little hard to find as I had to pull the bed out to find it. Finally, the room was a little cold since the heating didn't work, I imagine that's because the hotel turns off the heating in the summer to save money.

Last minute booking due to a family bereavement . The commonwealth games were on so accommodation was a nightmare to find . Anyway got booked in here where they made provision for the 5 of us no bother . All the staff were amazing very very helpful and friendly. Ok the decor could do with updating and I have an aversion to showers over the bath apart from that cannot fault it

No promises made – no disappointments. A perfect roadside hotel for an overnight stop: clean, inexpensive, and uncomplicated.

The hotel's façade is brightly illuminated throughout the night. Heavy curtains are provided and effectively block the light, but they also prevent proper ventilation. So it's a choice between darkness and fresh air.

Wir hatten ein Familienzimmer, dabei hatte unser 18 jähriger Sohn sein eigenes Zimmer mit einem Etagenbett. Er hatte sogar sein eigenes Badezimmer. Sein Zimmer hatte direkt Zugang zu unserem Zimmer. Das war großartig. Wir hatten ein großes Doppelbett, das sehr bequem war. Das Abendessen im Restaurant war in Ordnung und auch das Frühstück.

Das Etagenbett, in dem unser Sohn geschlafen hat, hat sehr gequietscht. Es könnte aber sein, dass das bei kleineren Kindern kein Problem ist.

Visited here as a party of 4 for a family meal. We booked a table were shown to a table straight away and drinks taken. We all took a starter and mains and 2 took dessert while the other had coffee. The breaded scampi was delicious as was the potato skins and Belgian waffle. All courses looked tasy and clean plates. We were never waiting long fir any food. The steadf were very efficient and professional. The prices were reasonable. Been here a few times and dont recall ever having a bad meal. Would recommend this place for a meal or even lunch

We only stayed one night!

Location convenient for breaking our journey. Everything fine in bedroom and ensuite. Breakfast good: as not much of the fry was GF, my husband had a large fry and I had some of his GF items, and also enjoyed porridge loaded with summer berries. Ample parking. Staff friendly.

One socket in room for kettle didn't work but was able to move it to another.

Great stop off hotel after a long drive from the midlands. Rooms comfortable with great modern bathroom and walk in shower. Restaurant was comfortable with enjoyable meals at both dinner and breakfast. we also stayed overnight on way back from touring Argyle.

Found it a little difficult to drive into the hotel when travelling south and on the wrong side of the road to access the hotel, no problem when driving north.

The accomodation is located in a peaceful area near the Dumbarton East railway station, though it is a little far from the city centre. Rooms are spacious, clean and cumfortable. The staff is very nice, friendly and helpful.

This place is a little gem. I was prepared to be well underwhelmed, but it was quaint and the room was comfortable, family friendly and clean. Loved that they had a family room option.

There was very little we didn't like. The breakfast came with one fried egg and maybe two eggs would make it a heartier breakfast.
