Comfortable and clean. A wallow in a past era with the comfort of the modern.
Not so much a complaint, but if you have mobility issues request a room with a Walkin shower otherwise you have to step into a bathtub.
Food was excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Location is very good.
The carpets in public areas were worn and stained. There was a constant noise in the room from the kitchen fans. The bathroom mirror was too low and the shower quite average. The room was small and dated. This is not really a 4 star hotel. I guess it gets its rating based on location and the outside pool.
Staff were without exception friendly and helpful. Excellent choice of breakfast all cooked to order.
Nothing
Well presented and very clean
Lovely character and a great spot
wonderful location, lovely staff very professional and polite. the food was very nice really good parking for motorcycles .
honestly not that much if I'm being picky the bathroom was abit dated and low water pressure on the shower .
True Character.
The staff were lovely very accommodating and friendly
All the staff were helpful, polite and very friendly. We were made to feel welcome and special. It was nice to be served breakfast (from a good choice) rather than the ubiquitous self-serve buffet. Dinner, while on the expensive side, was excellent and well presented. The garden was lovely and had a number of outdoor seating areas, and a small pool which our granddaughter enjoyed.
The decor was perhaps in need of some attention, but had a historic charm that meant this didn't really matter.
Staff were wonderful and friendly, very polite and professional. Helpful & welcoming. The pool area was lovely, the room was bigger than I expected for a single room. Breakfast was fantastic, greta choice and lovely room. Peaceful location, nice coastal walks nearby. Cocktails were delicious!
The lounge area was a little grubby and well used. It's in a weird position in the lobby up some stairs.
Beautiful grounds, wonderful staff, superb food
Nothing
Fabulous location, sea view, great breakfast.
Little bit faded in places. Room en-suite needs an update.
The bed
I loved my room, it was so calm and beautifully decorated. There was a lovely view of the garden out the window. It was very clean and had everything you would need for a stay. Breakfast was brilliant, there was loads of options and everything was tasty and well cooked /prepared. The staff were all so kind, friendly and obliging, nothing was ever too much trouble for them.
There wasn't a.nything I didn't like
Location lovely, nice old building. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.
Aircon is expensive to install but ceiling fans not so much which can make a huge difference in the many heatwaves we are experiencing. A fan was provided but it was small and not enough. Staff where helpful but a lot of miscommunication at breakfast as to if we had ordered or not etc and this caused delays.
Beautiful grounds and gardens. Walking distance to beach
Overly formal dining room, especially for breakfast
Breakfast was great
My room and bathroom was not cleaned properly. Bath was full of hair and more hair near the floor. Staining bedroom carpet and room not dusted properly. Took some of the hair I found to reception and said I was not happy and wanted House Keeping informed. Receptionist said they would inform House Keeping and Management... They never got back to me in person or email.
Restaurant
The breakfast options were many and the full English tasty. The staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The dinner menu could have varied more over the week. It was rather expensive.
Superb in every way
Larger pool and warmer water
Pool and garden. Room was also nice especially as got upgraded to sea view room
Could do with more sunbeds by the pool
Very relaxing, quiet and peaceful atmosphere. I wish I could stay longer. Delicious dinner and great breakfast. Staff is very welcoming and helpful. Easily parked in the around the corner parking. Lovely walk to the sea side, again very quiet place to be.
Very comfortable. Friendly staff. Not at all pretentious. Beautiful gardens.
Amazing place & great staff
Nothing!
The hotel has a very old fashioned elegance and is set in wonderful gardens. The location is very peaceful and welcoming.
The hotel is an old building and certain areas are in need of improvement. Our bedroom had quite drab decor and old fashioned fittings but in some respects this matched the historic nature of the hotel.
Staying at the Royal hotel felt like a real treat as I usually book self contained accommodation. I had a single room but it had a 4ft bed which was great. Every single member of staff I met was welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The gardens and pool area were stunning, a real bonus. I’m sure I read the pool was heated but it wasn’t, however this suited me as I was there during a heatwave.
Having to leave to come home!
Good sized room. Friendly and polite staff. Very clean and stylish accommodation. Wonderful to have access to the pool during the recent hot weather
Could not switch off the heated towel rail in the bathroom. No air conditioning in the rooms.
Location was nice, outdoor areas and garden was lovely
Restaurant was very disappointing supposed to be award winning however the food was not great
Everything
Nothing
Breakfast was very good service was excellent.
More parking would be nice but not a real issue.
Excellent food. Quiet genteel atmosphere.
Tiny issues with room. 'Wonky' tap. Cigarette smoke rising from open window
Hotel and staff were perfect
Dogs barking from 9pm to 11 30pm.....if l wanted to stay overnight in a kennels l would have. Would never stay in hotel again while poxy dogs are allowed
The welcome we received and the general, positive attitude of the staff made our stay a pleasure. The room was comfortable and clean. The ambiance was of old fashioned style with all the mod cons you would expect today. The food was excellent and well presented.
Charming traditional hotel Loved the Pool
We arrived in good weather 21 degrees The heat g was on in the room which made the it stifling to sleep at night We told reception they said it comes on when people are showering! It was a on all night Very uncomfortable for sleeping Obviously the system is faulty Room 48 not sure if it’s every room.
loved the character and the charm of the property, beautiful dining room for breakfast, relaxing and peaceful. all the staff were very friendly and well presented.
The bedrooms are dated for the expensive price, also heavy stains on the carpet which was unnecessary just needed a carpet cleaner, abreakfast closed without really finishing, would’ve been nice to be informed that the kitchen was closing.
Breakfast good although portiiions small. Alll staff were great and the gardens superb
Room needed an update. It was hot and there was no aircin or even a fan
The staff stood out all the time, from reception to bar to dining room. Very friendly, professional, fast and efficient. Just one thing, at breakfast I asked for a coffee with hot milk. The waiter asked a fellow waiter next to him if he could manage my order and I heard him say "a black coffee for the gentleman". So I chipped in and said "and hot milk". A third waiter then came with hot milk and no coffee. As part of training, please ensure you teach staff to be attentive all the time and to everything. Every minor mishap still is a mishap and to a client being at your hotel to relax and enjoy, things like these dent the experience.
I think the bathroom in the room was sub-standard. Grey vinyl flooring with dirty edges. Also, I understand this is an old-style hotel, but please, separate hot and cold water taps? In 2026? This to me shaves off a star or two in my rating. There were three families by the pool and their young children were making a lot of noise and splashing around and taking over the whole pool. I had to move away from there as it was too noisy. Please manage this better.
Good position in Ventnor
Hot rooms, dated furniture Old facilities Very expensive for the quality of the hotel
The staff were amazing & helpful. The food was delicious & the dining room was stunning.
Didn't have AC, but had a huge sash window to open with a cool breeze & thick beautiful curtains to keep the mosquitos out.The bathroom having no windows was very warm, but only minor issues as it was the hotest May we have experienced!
The location is perfect and the property is wonderful. Staff are very helpful and very welcoming.
Since the weather was very hot it would be nice to have a fan in the room to help circulate the air since there was not much wind to get the room to cool.
Historic building, good facilities.
Nothing
Location, areas for relaxing in the gardens and conservatory. Light meals / snacks available during the day.
Nothing at all.
Location and cleanliness were excellent as was the friendliness of the staff.
Bigger breakfast portions for gluten free.
Breakfast superb, Ventnor is a beautiful place so much to see , stunning scenery, Hotels location is quite, stunning.
Some of the carpet in hallways,
Excellent
The double bed was a very small double?!The back of property could with spruce up The wind put us off sitting the lovely garden which is a credit to the gardener with lovely pelargonium & wisteria the pool looked so inviting to
The location is ideal for walking the coast and discovering the island
The hotel has won trip advisors. Best of the Best award. With the standard overpriced room with dated bathroom. Cobwebs, tired looking exterior and taped carpet. How is this the best of the best!
Delicious, well-cooked breakfast with a good variety of choice. Lovely garden view from room. Friendly staff.
No variety of coffee options offered with breakfast unless paying a surcharge. Carpet on stairways worn and patched up with tape. TV in room very small. Very basic tea/coffee products in room. Would have expected a higher class of products given the hotel and its prices.
Great Location
Dinner and breakfast.
Price was generally expensive, alcoholic drinks were very expensive, London prices.
The check-in was easy, everything ready for us, plenty of car parking, super room with garden/sea view, comfortable bed, excellent food coupled with friendly and efficient staff members. We will go back again.
Nothing.
Everything was great.
Nothing, all was good.
Charming, old world ambience. Tasty breakfast - had one vegan option Attentive, courteous staff at reception, restaurant and housekeeping. The shower-head was not delivering hot water and they promptly attended to and fixed this. Clean and tidy.
Hotels should really be inclusive for vegans - can stock plant-based biscuits in the room which can be consumed by everyone, instead of just butter/dairy-based biscuits. Breakfast could have a few more vegan options. We were only able to pick one option from the list of 6-7. The bed was probably too soft for my liking, especially as I have some back issues, but that's a personal preference.
Lovely hotel in an excellent location. Great value we booked the early special saver rate. Got a great discount on the ferry. Historic and interesting. Beautiful gardens and they were just in the process of upgrading the outdoor seating and pool area. Classy hotel excellent dinner we ate twice on a 3 night stay as it's so good. I heard under new ownership. Only minor comment would be mattress (room 56) needs replacing but I am sure this will be under a refurb programme soon. We stayed the same time (easter) last year and would not hesitate to book again. We also bought dogs this time the IOW is very dog friendly. Staff were excellent and very attentive there was a doggie gift set in the room a nice touch.
Mattress in 56
Great location. Great staff & dog friendly 👍🏼
My pork belly was dry 😕
The food for dinner in the restaurant was excellent and beautifully arranged on the plate. The roast on Sunday was better than anywhere and the beef was exceptional.
Regarding breakfast, the Full English was poor but other options were nice. Pity there was no fat-free yogurt .
It’s a bit worn in places but for us that added to the character, great hotel , great location, great staff, superb breakfast.
Nothing
The dining room.
Hotel needs modernisation
The location of the hotel was fabulous. The night porter was lovely, the most attentive member of staff.
Pretty much everything else. The room was dated. The stairs and hallways were dated. The taps in the room were not great you had to keep turning and turning to get water. Carpets desperately need replacing, when you have duct tape holding carpet together it isn't a good look. It was loose on the stairs so you had to be careful not to slip. The staff were lacklustre at best. Never anyone at the bar, and kept waiting. First day for breakfast, empty breakfast room but because we checked in with a dog automatically put in conservatory even though the dog wasn't with us. We did manage to get seated in the empty restaurant but couldn't have a table by the window because those were 'taken/reserved'. We were the only ones in the restaurant bar one couple who appeared mid way through so not sure why we couldn't have one of the many empty window tables?! The breakfast itself was a let down. A full English that arrived one sausage, one bacon, half a tomato, a mushroom and the two smallest poached eggs I've ever seen. They forgot my sourdough toast I'd asked for instead of fried bread but did get me a rack of mixed roast instead. My partner had the guacamole and feta on sourdough with poached egg, and it was lucky he asked for sausages to go with it as it was a very stingy portion. The music at breakfast was the same four songs on repeat. We opted to not do breakfast the second day even though it was included. All, in all, this hotel needs a complete makeover and refurb of the contents and the staff.
Unexpectedly upgraded to a sea view room which was fabulous. The hotel is stunning & the staff exceptional in their friendliness, helpfulness & professionalism.
I was fortunate to get a parking space for the duration of my stay but I was surprised at how small the car park is considering the size of the hotel.
The food and service were excellent Lovely lounge and bar
The corridors were very dark and looked tired. Lighting in the room could be a bit brighter
The breakfast was excellent. Full breakfast served with quality ingredients. Good alternative options too for main breakfast and as much as wanted can also be chosen from the continental options. Overall, many good options for breakfast. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The environment was good overall in the hotel. Friendly welcome by the receptionist.
The waiter spilt red wine on me, and the table cloth when serving the glass to my husband , he didnt offer a napkin to clear it up, he said he would offer me a discount on my next glass for spilling on me , which felt very disingenous at the time. I didnt have another drink but to see a £1.00 wet discount on my bill this morning added insult to injury. Also the waitress didnt know what was in the special dessert and had to go back to the kitchen to find out, there was only one special dessert of the day, would expect her to know. The cold water tap in the sink in our room had hot water in it unless it was run for about 4 minutes.
Staff are excellent, friendly and very helpful Excellent breakfasts, great choice and everything was very fresh . Lovely grounds and attractive interior. Lovely lights outside in the evening.
Nothing to do with the hotel but you can't get a taxi in Ventnor , especially at night!!
Breakfast was excellent, although an earlier start time would be appreciated.
The staff were lovely and could not have been more helpful.
The bathroom was a little dated and the flush on the toilet was very loose in the wall, but bathroom very clean and toiletries great.
The meal was great as always. We had a fabulous sea view from our room.
Excellent
Breakfast and staff in the restaurant
Nothing
Breakfast was good although I had advised in advance that I was gluten intolerant and they had no suitable cereal. Some was obtained but not in evidence until we asked each morning. The location and grounds were very impressive.
See above. The hotel had an old fashioned air and some of the plumbing just functioned.
Very well established hotel with exceptionally friendly and professional staff.
Location
Drab. Needs substantial investment to improve. Bathroom door would not close. Plumbing is ancient. Hotel needs total refurbishment.
The staff were incredible couldn’t have been more helpful
The heat! It was boiling and I asked for a fan because it was so roasting.
colazione sontuosa e personale gentilissimo, ti senti un principe
è autunno fuori
Just lovely
The hotel was warm, clean, comfortable and friendly. Owing to my illness I suffer occasionally with walking (especially up hills and stairs, but not so much down!) and I was fortunate enough to have a parking bay close to reception, which was wonderful. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and polite. The food was excellent, we had cod bites with tartare in the bar and in the restaurant the celeriac amuse bouche was delivious. My seabass was perfect as was my husband's pork loin, we will definitely stay again. Unfortunately we were running late so didn't have breakfast....next time .
There wasn't anything not to like.
Great location, comfy beds and big rooms overlooking the garden and the sea in a lovely historical building.
Breakfast was nice but service slow.
