The food was very good. Unfortunately access from car park to hotel is poor, and very difficult to carry cases and bags up the stairs as there is no lift.
Easy to find, helpful receptionist
Food was nice, there was an issue at breakfast due to no chef and it took a while to sort out dietary requirements with no chef. There was only fruit available for gluten free option until they sorted out the chef, otherwise evening meal was fine. Room was pleasant and shower/bath were lovelly. Beds were comfy however the bed side lamps didn't seem to work. WiFi was available across the whole hotel. Easily accessible off the M4 and close to the activity we took part in so very convenient.
Booked twin bedded room. Allocated room 35. Room had recently been refurbished. Excellent. Despite a wedding being held there it was quiet and restful. Self service cooked breakfast in morning was very good and staff were constantly on hand to top up on anything. Good choice of different foods. Would stay again in room 35 and any other refurbished rooms. Cannot judge any other rooms. Staff were helpful, attentive and friendly. Just off the M4 is an excellent location for visiting Bath via Bath's No. 31 bus Lansdown Park and Ride facility.
Needs some updating but clean, good location and friendly staff. Conviently located restaurant/pub part of hotel with a good range of food on offer at competitive prices. Good selection of breakfast items.
Cute property - very clean. Restaurant on site had excellent dinner and breakfast
This could be a great hotel. The location and affordability make it a good choice. Sadly it's tired and a little grubby. The one member of staff we saw was very friendly and helpful. The room was ok but the bed linen and towels were grubby.
Great location close to motorways for us to explore the Cotswolds and other areas. Nice and quiet and comfortable bed. Food in the restaurant was delicious. The service from staff on the front desk was great. They were extremely helpful.
Staff where friendly and helpful. Needs to update sockets next to the beds for people who need to use their sleep apnea machine through the night. The staff provided an extention lead to solve this problem.
Lovely large rooms with views of the beautiful gardens and countryside.
Convenient for Bath Showground. The menu was limited on a Sunday with a poor roast which was disappointing.
Good stay
Ideally located for a stop off on the Cotswold Way walk.
The staff were first class. Breakfast (cooked) was superb as was the bar dining.
Nice spot and bar area is well presented, but the decor is very tired in places (including our room) and sound travels from above and adjacent rooms. Overpriced in current condition, lacking Best Western's usual standards.
Great location. Slightly dated rooms but adds to the charm of the place.
Very cold room upon arrival. Old hotel, would only recommend if nothing else is available. On hindsight a more modern hotel closer to bath or Bristol would have been a better alternative and in a similar price bracket.
Reasonable price for a short stay with nice staff. However you can hear people walking and talking which may be a down side if you prefer quiet.
Very Comfortable stay. Just used room as a base for Bath Xmas market and catching up with family. Just the job.
We had a great stay at Compass Inn. The room was lovely and well equipped and the bathroom was sparkling clean and looked new. Rupert kindly assisted us with our heavy bags, all staff were exceptionally helpful. Highly recommended.
Not told there was a wedding on and only access from room to bar was through the wedding party reception room. We were told we had to go out the back door walk around the building and into the other door. 45 mile per hr wind and rain at time. Got there and bar was not serviced so had to go into wedding reception bar to het a drink. The log fire in the bar was filling the room with smoke. I reported it and they opened the outside door to vent the room. I pointed out they should put it out. Later went back to the bar for dinner as only room available to eat and the manager was again putting more wood on it. Other people in bar joined in with me and said they had headaches and room full of smoke. Eventually they agreed to let fire burn out but by this time we both felt ill. There was no other room to eat in due to wedding. The young staff were vere good with service but the reception desk staff was unrealistic expecting us to go outside in red weather warning. Not a great experience and very uncomfortable being forced to crash a wedding just to get a drink plus we were very under dressed for that.
Only problem was TV wouldn't work and reception couldn't help
We enjoyed ourselves.
Nice stop during our England road trip.
Staff were great, room was a good size and the food was great.
Not amazing. Very run down. Not sure we would stay again.
Great, friendly and accommodating staff
Really friendly staff throughout, who were so welcoming and friendly especially towards our two daughters aged 6 and 4 :)
The property is very dated and in need of decorating, repair and deep cleaning. Staff just handed me my card key. I had to ask what room and direction- disinterested staff. Restaurant was cold due to windows that were not closed in the roof of the orangery , where a few of us were forced to dine, as the bar area was full.Damp and leaves on restaurant floor. The staff member who served us actually shouted‘shut up’ in the middle of talking to her. This was actually directed at another member of staff! Fire door, next to my room, was broken and wouldn’t shut. Dangerous and also meant wind was blowing through corridor all night- making room very cold. In addition, rainfall overnight had soaked carpet. Room walls are flimsy and next room’s conversation and snoring was easily audible. No lighting in car park at rear , making walking and navigating to hotel hazardous. Lock out at 9pm and had to return to car and drive to pub side. Door to get in there jammed and staff thought my struggle with this amusing. Booked for 2 nights but left after first- unbearably poor all round. Final insult was doors to exit were locked and I couldn’t leave until a cleaner was found to unlock main entrance to pub side! Also dangerous in a fire. Disappointing experience- bordering on farcical. Can’t believe this business is still functioning at the level it is at.
Positives were the location near the M4, easy parking, nice outside area, and a nice bar and restaurant. The room was a bit small but functional but there was some noise from adjacent rooms which I think was caused by pumps operating the water and showers. Overall, however, our stay was good value for money.
The staff is absolutely wonderful and the sourroundings are beautiful, however the hotel is very dated. We were give a very large family room. The bathroom shower worked with an electrical Device that made a tractor engine noise, but the shower was warm and nice. The room carpet next to the double bed smelled really bed and there was no thermostat in the room. One could not control the temperature and the heat would go on only in the evening and be stuck at 30 C (86 F!). The mattresses could use replacing. Not really a place we’d go back to if not for the absolutely stellar staff.
On balance, I would have given this two and a half stars. Cleanliness was poor, the corridors were dirty and needed a good vacuuming. The room had a cup with a used tea bag and there was a minimal tea tray, The electricity went on and off all night and in the morning ! The breakfast was ok- all cheaper ingredients. The room was quite and we slept well. Need a refurbishment..Not sure whether we would return.
Although acceptable, it could’ve been a little cleaner. Lots of banging doors, but only to be expected in a traditional old building. The staff were fantastic, the breakfast and dinner was delicious. And you cannot be those surroundings!
Adequate for a short stay. Food was nothing special Rooms were clean Mediocre for the money
Decent place to stay
Very average, food not the best as was the service, disappointing
It is a nice old English pub with modernish ropms and very helpful staff. The lunch was very good
Nice room but experience let down by a very hard mattress. If you don’t sleep well what’s the point of a hotel! I think all hotels should have a bed comfort rating.
Good location and overall staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is freshly cooked for each guest however it finished at 9am weekdays which was for us a bit early. We had an executive room booked for 2 nights and on arrival after 7pm we had no hot water in the bathroom, which after a long journey was disappointing to say the least. Reception staff had to reset boiler (apparently known problem) and we waited almost 2 hours to get hot water and the water pressure from the taps was poor as well. No toilettries in bathroom which for an execetive room was not good. Generally functional hotel but could certainly do with a face lift.
Staff were excellent and food a good standard. It is a slightly odd motel style hotel that could do with updating. Bedroom was average as was the bathroom. Overall probably what was expected.
Nice, one-night stay in a quaint, out of the way place. Very nice staff. Good breakfast. An older but unique hotel. Recommended
The place is quaint and the room very nice and spacious. However, I found a few small spiders in my room. I think, it was a one off occurrence. Dispute the spiders (which I am afraid of), I would still revisit the place.
nice quite place
Convenient and pleasant location for us traveling from Bath to Birmingham. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A really sweet and lovely touch was the children’s chocolate Easter egg in our room! The room did look a bit dated, particularly the bathroom. The bathroom could also have been a little cleaner. It felt as if the bathroom and room probably hadn’t been used for a while and since the last time it was cleaned it had gotten a bit dusty.
Room was reasonably clean and bed comfortable. Shower height adjustment broken, and clearly had been for some time - no good for anybody over 3 foot tall. The smell of raw sewage in the corridor and the bathroom was appalling - apparently it’s been like that for some time. It really needs to get sorted……
Stayed for one night had a lovely evening meal and a delicious breakfast especially the bacon.
Breakfast was awful with no apologies. Couldn’t eat the food. .
Excellent service from all the Staff, very helpful and polite throughout our stay, all of us agreed and there were seven of us. Park and ride for Bath not far away either. would definitely return again.
Lovely staff, no issues. Thanks
It was great!
Overall was good. The bathroom was dated and could do with a better clean. It’s an older building so unfortunately we could hear all the stomping around from room upstairs. Service was very good and rooms were decent size and beds comfortable.
We loved our stay . There was a funny smell in our hallway. Great staff and wonderful rest!
We used the hotel as an overnight stop after a 125 mile trip to Wales. We found staff friendly and helpful. The evening meal was excellent but the full English breakfast was sadly overcooked. The room was adequate and clean and tidy. Two drinking glasses in the room would have been useful and next time we will ask for a walk in shower. Stepping in and out of a bath to shower gets precarious as you get older but grab rails would help!
Beautiful property with nice amenities and amazing lovely people. For example, we arrived two times very late after the kitchen was closed, and both times the chef just jumped and helped us with a hot meal for our son.
.
Very enjoyablr stay, close to Bath, dog friendly, quiet lovely Countryside, near to motorway for easy access to our home
Bar very noisy overcrowded by weeding guests. Breakfast not very good children running all over the place.
Super friendly staff & super charming hotel. We all loved it and wished our trip had more nights here. 1 of a kind charm. It’s old but kept up nicely.
It was as expected for a cheap hotel. Had everything you needed. Staff are great abd room very clean.
Really helpful and friendly staff, we arrived late but still had a very good dinner.
Place looked tired. Our bed was not comfortable, shower leaked and room was tiny. Staff were lovely
Very enjoyable stay food was excellent staff very friendly would definitely use ahain
Room basic but comfortable and clean. Fine for our one night stay. Ate in the restaurant and the food was really good, as was the full English the next morning. Staff friendly and helpful.
Had an excellent day . From Amy who I spoke to prior to our arrival and to the reception staff they could not do enough to ensure they met our requirements . One of the rooms we had had been recently refurbished and it was lovely . The other room had yet to be refurbished but was still perfectly adequate . We decided to eat in the restaurant and the food was outstanding . Would definitely recommend and cannot wait to return :-)
Decor is a bit tired. Breakfast was too slow.
Staff were amazing
We didn’t have enough beds in the room when we arrived and Amy at the front desk went beyond the call of duty to make it right. Her caring and competency to rectify the issue was awesome. I’d say that out of all 7 nights stay in the UK her service was tops!
Very dated and desperately needed updating. It looked like it hadn’t been updated for a long time. The bathroom was clearly a very budget option and again needed updating.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The property was dated and in need of some updating but was ok enough for our one night stay.
We had an enjoyable stay at the hotel. The room was a little tired looking (especially the bathroom) but it was comfortable and roomy. Staff at the hotel were very pleasant. Room had not been cleaned upon arrival but when we returned later in the day, all was well.
Rooms not cleaned unless you made a fuss. Restaurant was the biggest disappointment. Some of the food was tasteless, served cold or just warm and without any plates or cutlery. It took so long to get service that the food went cold altogether. Just one person trying to serve . Really poor and priced too high for the quality and service . Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Wonderful stay, the hotel has a great atmosphere.
Location was good for my needs.
Lovely clean room which was bigger than expected, great shower with very clean bathroom. Only fault was being next to a fire door, got woken up early with the workers going back and forth, could do with getting a slow automatic door closing thing. Breakfast was good, I had salmon and poached eggs on toast and husband had full English. All staff were very friendly and helpful, will use again if need to stay in that area again.
Was a very pleasant stay.
Very comfy bed with good facilities. Nice breakfast. Only let downs was horrible smell of sewage in the hallway and lots of flies in the breakfast room.
I really enjoyed my stay. All staff were helpfull, food and service great. Nice bar area, very comforting with real fires. Room was nice, great shower, comfortable bed and strong WiFi signal. Would definitely stay again hopefully soon. I would also like to mention Kieren, he is an absolute credit to the company and I really enjoyed our conversations.
Sorry. Corridor smells of damp. Room dated. Bed really comfy, had a brilliant nights sleep. Not sure why the "executive room with view" was a feature as room overlooked car park and some sheds. Breakfast room freezing. Cups so icy it made the coffee go cold. Warmed the cups on the toaster 👍. Toaster only toasted on one side 👎Cooked breakfast nice. Staff all really helpful.
Am inexpensive accommodation compared to central Bath and convenient location for travel. Staff were pleasant and helpful and the room was clean and tidy. Some items in the Bathroom were not working properly (eg hot water in the shower).
Room was very clean and tidy. Warm in the cold weather! Lovely little hotel.
Amazing. The ambience was breathtaking; not to far from bath and the service was exceptional and they went extra mile or two to make us comfortable.we couldn’t recommend it more. A big thank you to the night staff and manager on 26th November 2021
Very cosy and nice people!
Hotel was clean with friendly staff. It is tired in places but undergoing work in the middle section of the hotel with more to follow we were told. Evening meals were lovely, breakfast had to be pre ordered with time stated. Not a problem for us, but a bigger selction of continental would be nice ie. Fruit and yogurts.
Disappointing food and shower didn’t work. Very basic. Rather dated rooms and bar area. Good location for Bath.
A little grubby
location is lovely, the Hotel and accommodation is dated and tired. Room, Bed hard and not comfy with thin pillows, I may of had better night on thee floor. Bathroom, well...I didn't want to use it for washing. Light over desk, flickers, not helpful when staying for business. Cleanliness is lacking in all formats, I feel that furniture Polish is the only item in their bucket.... all items have been removed for COVID...not sure why....I stay in many Hotels weekly and the Level others reach way exerts this and all facilities are available. Over Priced for this Unit....
Lovely food, great service. Great with the kids.
Very average in need, of update or refresh. Example three lamps only one worked, the hair dryer which was given was broken. However food was good. Friendly staff.
The hotel is quite old and the rooms need desperately a refurbishment. We found the room bathroom dirty, especially considering that you would expect extra cleaning during a pandemic. The bath had several body hairs inside. One of the bathroom corners was home for a spider. Breakfast was reduced because of COVID19 (which is understandable) hovewer when we booked and paid for breakfast we were not advised about this. The overall experience was disappointing. This is definitely the worst best western I ever been in. The staff was friendly hovewer they looked understaffed expecially at breakfast, I couldn't manage to get a second cup of coffee as the only waiter was far too busy.
A fantastic place to stay.great value for money.staff very friendly and helpful and go the extra mile. The food at dinner was huge and very tasty. The full English breakfast was very nice and poached eggs were yummy.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The bed in room 6 was terrible, too low and the mattress was shot. It sagged in the middle. The sign on the doir said it was for disabled peole, the bed was so low they would never get up from it, and the bed was not suitable to sleep in. The room wasnt that clean. The food was fabulous, beautifully presented and tasted fantastic.
Very tired looking hotel.the room was ok but needs modernising.the bar area could do with a total makeover to bring a bit of a more comfortable feel to the area. Was put off eating there by chefs walking around in dirty uniforms and loitering around outside in the same uniforms.there aroundplenty of decent eateries around the area so would suggest researching those first. All in all quite a disappointing stay which could have been a lot better if a bit of money was spent on the place. The only positive I can give is the hotel receptionists are wonderful.very polite and genuinely glad to help.
Very considerate call made by simon on Saturday evening before we had checked in to enquire whether we would require dinner as the kitchen was about to close. They were prepared to make special arrangements but it was unecessary but a very nice touch.
Nice stay within countryside and you must have your own transportationt to reach. Didn't try at the restaurant, hopefully good
Very Friendly staff , a big but on my first night ordered a rib eye , they served me an OFF rib eye how the chef couldn’t smell it was beyond it stank.
Facilities very poor, no internet nor mobile phone redemption from rooms, but the service had been great all way to the end.
I would not expect separate taps for hot and cold water in a modern hotel. Water was so hot I could not use it at all. Mattress were very soft - springs only, definitely not suitable for me.
The hotel was badly managed resulting in low moral staff . The was damp in places .maintenance of both grounds and the building was very poor . The staff needed to listen and write things down especially in restaurant .in fact i have nothing good to say about my stay ! Just pleased to be home !
Quite, perfect for families with small children. Room spacious. Dated but clean. Could do with a small play area / Park for the kids.
Staff were friendly and very helpful. Room was perfect and the whole cost was very reasonable indeed.Just the job!
