Enjoyed our stay. Staff very helpful as bags had not arrived and they helped track them down by phoning the delivery company
Nice room and dinner
Person serving breakfast did not want to be there. Limited choice of fruit for on yogurt - only grapefruit normally have been offered red berrries/ apple
Room was great and plenty for breakfast. We also ate there in the evening and the food was great.
Everything was just great.
The staff were brilliant, the food plain and well presented. A burger with a plain bread bun and not the usual dreadful brioche bun. Breakfast spot on. Only the bed was a bit too soft and springy.
No bedside table on one side of the bed.
Location and food
Great location for what we needed
Car park a bit small!
Clean and quiet with friendly and helpful staff.
Nothing
Size and comfort of room, cleanliness, food, atmosphere , staff. Great place to stay.
Narrow space between loo and bath. Fine for us but wouldn't suit larger person, anyone with disabilities etc
The staff and the food are excellent. The view from the beer garden is amazing
The room was lovely. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was massive! Very good food.
Lovely old pub, very friendly cheerful staff, great breakfast, evening meals reasonably priced
Nothing really, plague of black flies, but absolutely nothing the pub could do about that!! Just the time of year. This is not a criticism of the Black Bull!!
The Black Bull is a lovely, traditional pub in a great location in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean with a bathroom that was compact and functional. The evening meal and breakfast were delicious. The staff were attentive and welcoming. We had a very pleasant stay.
Be aware that the car park at the side of the pub is small and was busy when we arrived. It is not a negative complaint just an observation. Generally, I do not have anything negative to say about my stay.
Lovely property in a small town. The room and en-suite were very nice and comfortable. The pub and meal was a nice bonus. The staff at the checkin were helpful and friendly.
The added distance from Kirby Stephen was the only drawback.
Lovely rural location. Great staff, friendly and helpful. Excellent food and a choice of 2 real ales. The team seem keen to maintain and improve the experience. Beer garden has superb view of the countryside.
The heat, but some people enjoy that.
Lovely peaceful location, great food and super friendly staff.

Nice pub inn with friendly staff, cozy pub, and decent food. Bed was comfortable. Good breakfast to get you started. Convenient to walking paths and Kirkby Stephen train station.
Coffee should be upgraded. Tastes like water.
Breakfast was great as was the lady who showed us to the room
The room no.2 is far too small. There is a large double bed but not enough room for two people to walk around the room in opposite directions.
Beautiful location,staff welcoming,breakfast great.
Lovely location, great food and very friendly
Warm welcome, friendly, helpful staff, great location, lively atmosphere, great dinner.

Quiet room. Village location. Nice bed linen.
Breakfast bar could be improved.
Great staff. Good service.
Plug in the sink was faulty.
Great Location. Lovely beer garden with amazing views. Welcoming staff. Comfortable room. Delicious food.
Parking limited but found no problem parking near the “green “ opposite.
Eveving meal andbreakfasr were good but not exceptional but adequate and reasonably priced. Plug on basis in bedroom was broken so could not hold water for shaving etc. needs to be attended to. Othewise room was fine if a little small. Overall quite a pleasant experience for an overistay.
Location and decent food
Lack of breakfast options for early start
Accommodating friendly staff
The staff were friendly and the bed was comfy. Restaurant food was scrumptious.
Staff were lovely and friendly. Breakfast was good.
The room was small and bathroom was very small.
Helpful, friendly staff. Great room
A lovely old pub full of charm
Comfortable room, excellent food.
Nothing
Overall the hotel was great. Friendly helpful staff, great food and amenities. Highly recommended.
Lovely pub with good atmosphere and excellent food
Great location in a traditional old pub. The breakfast was great and the staff friendly
The only negative is that the room and especially the bathroom was a little small.
Busy pub with great atmosphere
A bit dated and faded in places
Warm welcome, great Sunday evening meal, with drinks ofcourse and a great nights sleep. Our nervous dog found the back grass area a treat and very little passing traffic made our stay even better.
A minor detail but parking here and getting cases etc to the room is challenging if the very small car park (maybe 5-cars) is full. But we managed.
Comfortable room, excellent breakfast. Had evening meal good value for money
The excellent staff and service we received during the evening meal
Food was amazing and staff were great
Nothing
Good Value, Excellent Dinner in a friendly family pub. Very restful sleep in comfy bed. Peaceful out of the way village. Very good breakfast.
The room was expensive for it`s size and condition. TV shelf was too small for TV mount so TV could not be turned towards bed fully, chance of TV getting broken. The room and bathroom was a bit tired and in need of some love.
Dinner in the evening was exceptional and breakfast was the same
Nothing
It was advertised as higher end than it was. Breakfast was adequate but certainly nothing special.
The staff in particular, nothing too much trouble even when extremely busy. The location, perfect for our trip. Our room, even though the bathroom was a little 'tight' was perfectly clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The food, we only ate once but was a great Sunday roast.

Good location. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Good food in the evening and breakfast
Room was rather compact but comfortable enough for the night we stayed.
Quaint country inn
Excellent food although breakfast choice was perhaps a little limited. Comfortable bed but Bathroom was a tight squeeze for the loo. Nice quiet location despite facing the road. Ideal for a short stop.
We had asked that the room be set up as a twin room; it was not but it would have been a mission to re-set it after we had arrived. We managed.
All was good.. Thank you.
Nothing
Very friendly and welcoming staff with fabulous food. Excellent base to visit the Cumbria Easter Rally. Would definitely stay again
It was perfect
Pleasant staff, great location, extremely comfortable bed, good evening meal in the bar!
Old world charm, location and food
Rooms were more cramped than anticipated
food was excellent
all was OK, shower was a bit dodgy, but advised staff and attended to.
Location was spot on for our needs, nice walk and close to train station for out trip to settle. Great accommodating staff, excellent food both breakfast and evening meals Lovely sunny beer garden ...yes in March.
Room a little snug if heavy travellers like us.
Clean, beautifully located and very comfortable accommodation.
Nothing
Breakfast was good. Lots of choice of fruit and staff made an effort to come in early for us. Location was excellent at the end of our walk.
Room and bathroom was very small. Outdated and not particularly clean e.g. cobwebs on lampshade and dust on skirting boards. Bedding was fine.
A lovely modernised old pub in a small village with lots of character and excellent staff service. It had an unusually good selection of vegetarian food.
The bedroom was rather small.
Excellent poached eggs , took some some tips on improving mine , thank you .
Very friendly and helpful staff, room was clean if a little small (bijou) and very comfortable. Very good pub food and an excellent breakfast. Dog friendly but no evidence of previous canine occupation!
Nothing not to like!
Super comfy bed
Lovely comfortable stay. Beds are very comfortable, room was warm. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Location is great, within walking distance of Kirkby Stephen and lots of walks in the vicinity. Food very good, especially the breakfast.
Unfortunately we had a message from them the day after we arrived home to say the conditioner in our room was missing and did we "accidentally pack it in our bag"!! I have stopped in a few places but never once been accused of taking toiletries. It would not put me off stopping there however. They keep shampoo/body wash and conditioner in the bathroom cabinet. We only found it halfway through our stay and used our own but there was no conditioner in our room. I would advise to check when you arrive and if either are missing let the staff know.
Good food friendly staff great location
Friendly staff and very clean and comfortable

Lovely homely pub. Warm, welcoming and great staff. Nice breakfast and a great selection of tasty evening meals.
Nothing.
Staff and food
Friendly staff very clean
The bed was a bit uncomfortable needs upgrading
All went well but for the very small size of the room.
The room was very small. It was difficult for two occupants to move around the room. It would have been better to be regarded as a single room.
Lovely comfortable bed, great bathroom and good breakfast
Nice room, helpful and happy staff
Being an old inn, room was a bit on the small side, other than that fine.
vriendelijke staff..We konden zelfs vroeger ontbijten omdat we de dag daarna een lange wandeling hadden.
The room was very smart, clean, and well fitted out. It overlooked the front of the pub but the road is very quiet, and the windows are double glazed. We had an excellent evening meal in the bar and the breakfast was superb. We arrived by bicycles and we were met by someone who quickly arranged for them to be stored in the corner of their function room. This was a great help. This is a great place to stay and we really enjoyed ourselves. There are some lovely short walks close by which we investigated after checking in.
The room was quite compact. The design of the bedstead had the two legs at the foot sticking out and both me and my partner slammed our shins into these protrusions. This design of bedstead is not suitable for a compact room and should be swapped for a more suitable one. Breakfast starts at a relatively late time compared to most other establishments and this is a problem if someone wants to get away smartly as we did. We were cycling over Tan Hill and needed a good start.
All was Exceptional
