Huge comfortable room with excellent bathroom
Bedroom
Very tired needs up dating
The. Food was excellent aswell as the location. Staff were kind and helpful
Rooms are looking tired
Beautiful room and our special request for a walk-in shower was granted. Staff friendly and very helpful and efficient. Food in the restaurant was nice and service was exceptional.
I was rather disappointed with the spa area, specifically the swimming pool. Small and rather too hot with an extremely strong smell of chemicals. My husband used the gym and steam room and said it was adequate. Thought the wine was overpriced.
Location and character
I felt it was expensive for what it was and the room pricing varied massively between the group of people we were with ie no consistency fairness of pricing. What they did well was the main birthday meal in the private dining room.
Location is fabulous. Staff were brilliant and food was delicious. A lady called Jane made my 8 year old niece very welcome and gave her a map of the estate plus a drink to take on our walk.
Can't think of anything
Excellent breakfast & the staff were very accommadating when our family arrived.
Nothing
The hotel is very well situated near Bolton Abbey. The room was comfortable and the staff welcoming. Breakfast was plentiful and varied.
TV channels had poor reception and a complete lack of even one TV in the bar to watch sports.
Great spa Breakfast superb Receptive staff
Emailed them twice prior to arriving.. Both emails ignored
Liam who helped at Breakfast was excellent, some of the other staff should take a lesson from his customer skills. The breakfast itself was a little disappointing, for an 'English Breakfast' The continental choice was also very limited.
The facilities for evening meal was very poor, not particularly a great menu, described as a brasserie is a little extravagant for the offering. The food was average the service was nearly average and I was not able to get a table for my second nights stay. Limited offerings round and about made it a disappointing night. I had asked in advance for the first night as it was my wife's birthday, although Jack promised to 'do something special@ it never materialised. The second night we were told there was no space to eat all night. When paying over £300 per night I would have expected something in place to cater for guests, even if it is simply to remind them to book for dinner when they arrive for breakfast. A room fridge with tap water and milk, not even a soft drink, A bar area that stops serving food at 5 and a spa that stopped serving food at who knows when. Don't go here if you enjoy food
Location amazing, breakfast fantastic, very friendly staff
Some decor a little dated (standard double room), bed quite soft
Good location it’s a wedding venue . Breakfast was good
Lots of very tired infrastructure , lousy attention to detail and decent fittings squeezed into tiny space eg stepping over toilet to get into shower over bath Picture is just two of the fourteen spiders that graced our bathroom
Location was excellent restaurants and staff were very good
hotel was very dated picture /painting in bedroom needed cleaning although room was very clean
The location is excellent with lovely views and has good parking facilities. It is within walking distance to the Bolton Priory estate … or a very short drive. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The beds are very comfortable and the bedding and towels are fresh and clean. The bedroom area was very quiet and our sleep was undisturbed. The room has coffee/tea making facilities and fresh milk is in the fridge. Instead of the usual biscuits the hotel provides a jar of pieces of flapjack which are absolutely delicious and very more-ish and even better, they are replenished every day! The food is good and we enjoyed our breakfasts and an evening meal at the brasserie.
The stairs and especially the small landing area to our room were quite dark and poorly lit. There was no mention of a lift being available. The lamp behind the armchair wasn’t working. My husband has poor eyesight so this was an issue. His other problem was accessing the shower which was over a high sided bath. He really struggled with this. Maybe if we had mentioned his sight and moderate mobility problems at the time of booking a more suitable room could have been found for us. The bedroom paintwork and decor are now very battered and dated and although clean the room looks rather down at heel and in need of refurbishment. We appreciate that it is an old building and its character must be preserved and that improvements should not detract from this.
Really cosy and comfortable, the staff are a delight, perfect place to bring your pooch
Very Slightly dated
The location it was ideal for where we were exploring. The food in the Brassiere was exceptional and pricing was good. Easy parking
Paintwork etc just a bit tired around the whole hotel. The spa area is seperate to the hotel - there is a main road to cross.
The property is very attractive, with lovely gardens. We were able to enjoy a lovely walk to Strid Woods directly from the front door. Our ground-floor bedroom was spacious and comfortable. My breakfast was excellent, especially the quality of the bacon, sausage and toast. My partner's veggie breakfast wasn't quite so good.
A minor dislike: Our ground-floor room overlooked the garden and lacked privacy because other residents were nearby and could potentially see into our room. The bathroom was tiny and required minor gymnastics to climb into the bath/shower. Our major disappointment was dinner. The staff were perfunctory, and not very attentive. My steak was tiny, not well cooked, and the chips were hard. Our meal was poor value for money. Note that dinner is served in a different restaurant to where breakfast is served.
Location, relaxed, pleasant walks
Not enough chicken chicken and leek pie, mistake with cheese board spoilt lunch for one of us but staff helpful
Lovely building and excellent staff bar was slow no one available to serve us , twice but overall great place
The staff, the views, the walks. Lovely room, stylishly decorated and comfy. Ambiance, service and food at Brasserie and breakfast was great. The hotel was very dog friendly, and recommended good local walks for us with our dog. Overall excellent experience. We will be back!.
The bathroom was very tight, and tricky to get out of bath/shower.
The historical lounge area with the antlers displayed. Homemade flapjack in the room was absolutely delicious. Though it was nothing special I found the pancakes and cheese selection in the breakfast exceptional
Nothing
We had a lovely stay and will definitely return
All good
Beautiful location and nice staff
Cocktail bar a little old fashioned so elected to have pre dinner drinks outside. May look better in the winter when sofas might look more appealing but maybe it’s in need of a refresh. As bedroom was ground floor could have done with some gauze curtains so wasn’t possible to look into room from outside. Did have to get dressed and undressed in the bathroom as couldn’t in the room (closing main curtains in the morning to get dressed in the dark or with lights on is not usual). Parma ham is not customary on Eggs Benedict, maybe call it something else! Would have made a different choice if I’d known and there was lots of choice at breakfast.
A great experience from the time we were checked in to departure
Location
Trying to add on all sorts of additional charges, slow service in breakfast all 3 days
Location - Great! Lovely views. Early morning curlews! Large grassed areas.
Nothing
We loved everything… wonderful surroundings, beautiful decor, fantastic spa experience, quality food, amazing staff, peace and tranquility…
Nothing to dislike…
Breakfast was good but tables wiped down, for crumbs where just throne on floor sadly
Getting up from the table, for some of your breakfast, prefer to be served your whole breakfast at the table, where your sat.
Staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.
Nothing
The staff were pleasant and helpful and the room was comfortable.
The main restaurant was closed ( for the whole month I think ) so the only eating was in The Brasserie where the menu is quite limited if staying more than a couple of days or if anyone in the party has food intolerances/allergies. My wife is partially disabled and was unable to use the in bath shower.
Comfortable rooms. Good food.
Customer service from reception staff. We arrived to be told we couldn’t eat in the restaurant which was fully booked. We were left with the option of eating in our room. This was disappointing given no one contacted us in advance to see if we wanted a table, though they said that was what they did. Whilst the one receptionist told us this, the other two ignored us. I complained as we weren’t happy to eat a £100 meal in our room. The receptionist then told me she would raise it with the restaurant manager and call us back. The restaurant manager rang us and told us we could eat in the restaurant whenever we wanted. During our meal there were four tables not taken. The three receptionists we met on our first day were unfriendly. It’s an expensive hotel and the poor service will stop us spending more money there.
had room service
We were in room 22, approximately 11 pm there was a lot of shouting from one of the rooms across the road, a couple was arguing quite severely, we eventually had to call night management around 1:30 am. Which completely disturbed our evening.
The location is surrounded by absolutely the most stunning scenery
The service in the brassier restaurant was poor. The food was great, however the service was extremely disappointing
This was expensive and Husbands overcooked in places
Cereals and fruits as a help yourself
Great location, really good quality hotel, excellent service, very friendly and professional staff.
Nothing comes to mind
Good quality venue
Attempted to be charged for prosecco we hadnt ordered Spa booking was messed up - blamed the computer but didnt try hard enough to remedy a serious error Restaurant food excellent except the prawn balls that were prawn tasteless
The decor
The location, beautiful grounds, very clean and stylish
Perfect location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales.
Really tastyStayed
The hotel is charming decorated to an original classic high standard with lovely touches such a fire constantly on in the reception and homemade flapjack in the room. What really sets this hotel apart is the wonderful friendly attentive but not overbearing staff.
The bathroom was tight it was quite difficult to access the shower.
Beautiful location, Delicious breakfast, Fantastic and friendly staff and super comfy bed!
A beautiful hotel, a lovely room (14), lots of little touches like the jar of flapjack, fresh milk in the little fridge in the room As a person in her own, I felt very comfortable at all times
Beautiful hotel in a great location. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nothing
Beautiful location
Lounge and bar were comfortable Setting stunning Easy to park
Staff were almost rude They rang the day before to confirm We had booked and paid ?? Was we going to turn up..did we want to eat! I told them it was our wedding anniversary.. The room was on the small side. Didn’t even tell us bout hotel facilities Apparently the spar was fully booked.. We were disappointed..
Location and helpfulness of reception team : we gave them a logistics challenge and they more than met it. Thank you.
Very poor staff in breakfast - a 20 min power cut clearly threw the entire team - once power was restored it took 75 mins for breakfast to appear. Wrong orders on 3 items and no table clearing of any items - clearly a team in training , but poor experience for the price frankly.
really warm and cosy, very welcoming with log fires. lovely breakfast and evening meal in the brasserie. nice little touches in the room- water, fresh milk and flapjacks 😊.
the pool is tiny, can't swim in it.
Location was superb
Sunday roast dinner was cold
Nice spacious rooms, great location and friendly staff and good parking.
Service at the restaurant could do with more attention to hotel guests.
Relaxed & peaceful. Professional, attentive staff. Wonderful location. Great breakfast, exceptional coffee (& thankfully no buffet!). Fabulous walking from the hotel.
'Cosy' room was just that (though possibly a little too cosy!). That said meant we spent moretime in the capacious, comfortable lounges!
The staff are so lovely. Everyone was so kind and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the little touches like fresh milk for our cups of tea were really appreciated. My hubby’s guide dog particularly appreciated the large amount of dog treats left for him. The location is fabulous with beautiful accessible walks on the Bolton Abbey estate. We will certainly be returning.
The spa pool is a little bit cool for a spa pool. Feels warm when you get in but I got out feeling quite chilled.
The decor throughout the hotel was amazing. The view and comfy twin beds. The location was stunning. The spa and the food in the hotel. The toiletries in the bathroom were top-notch. The drinks and fresh milk in the fridge.
Some difficulty getting in and out of the shower. Window sills need a repaint. Would of liked a safe.
Great location for walks to the Abbey and Strid Wood. Really good breakfast. Friendly staff. Comfy bed.
Room was close to reception which was noisy in the morning. Brasserie restaurant ambience was odd and food only ok especially for the price. Spa facilities nice and great to be included in room rate but chlorine levels in pool meant my partners eyes were streaming and had to leave.
I love this hotel it’s so relaxing with beautiful scenery. The staff are wonderful so friendly and helpful ! Food incredible ! Walk around Bolton Abbey amazing ! Devonshire spa so lovely !
The only negatives were the bed head in our room had faded quite a bit and there were a few bits that the dog found under bedside table so not cleaned 100 per cent ! We didn’t like the wall paper in the Brasserie .
The beautiful entrance with the fire burning in the hallway just lovely!
This hotel is relaxed from the moment you enter polite and caring staff dog friendly too!
A very relaxing atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. The open fire at the entrance provided a very welcoming start to our stay.
Quality of food was very good. Staff were super friendly, polite and efficient. We enjoyed the setting and the peaceful nature of the hotel. Loved having all the fires lit and cozy corners to sit in (especially the dog room). The Spa and the Spa manager was excellent. The gentleman on reception when we checked in and checked out was very efficient and helpful.
Minor point, but maybe some areas were a little bit dated although we could see things were being done to improve.
This is an exceptional Hotel, which never fails to provide the best in Accomodation, Food, Staff and General Service.
N/A
The location and the look of the property were lovely.
The breakfast was not great in terms of execution. Looked better than tasted. Staff very attentive but forgot items.
Location is great for walking
The restaurant wasn’t amazing, staff not trained properly and it’s dropped off at the end of hotel. We ordered a chateaubriand for our first year anniversary dinner and it wasn’t anything special. Would be better in the breakfast areas as it’s more cosy and would suit evening meals better. Also very casual, not what we were expecting.
Beautiful location and buildings . Very comfortable rural vibe . Super dog friendly . Outstanding staff .
The gym / spa needs better female showers
Breakfast was delicious and a treat to be able to mix and match what we ate. The sausages were particularly good. Lovely room to eat in. Exceptional service at reception - the gentleman who looked after us (sorry for not remembering his name!) helped us plug in our electric car and we charged overnight for FREE - what a great service! And when I left my watch in the spa he went and got it and brought it to our room. Amazing walk to the Abbey at dusk. Very cosy in our rooms - nice touch giving us free flapjacks. Loved the Yorkshire tea bags.
Dinner was good but a bit cold and quite small portions. Quite a soul-less dining room, not very cosy or atmospheric. Disappointed to see calories on the menu as I was with my daughter who has an eating disorder so choosing food instantly becomes challenging.
The location and views. The attentiveness of some of the staff. The food - we had our evening meal in the Brasserie, then breakfast in the Garden Room. The ambience of the whole place. The spa facilities.
Nothing to add here.
Location, food, friendly staff
What a wonderful location! Room very comfortable and staff very friendly Service for both dinner and breakfast excellent, perhaps slightly slower than some, but really friendly and attentive. Overall highly commended.
Nothing. I guess parking could be a little problematic but we didn’t have a problem.
The staff. The comfort. The bed. The log fires. The spa. The food. The welcome. The location. The walks.
Nothing. It was amazing
Nice atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good wine list at reasonable prices.
Disappointing food.
Food at dinner was good. Service from the barman was excellent. Staff in the spa were very helpful.
Waiting 55 minutes for breakfast and then being told the chef was just going to prepare our order. People who arrived after us had all been served. Interior is very tired and all needs refreshing. There was black mold on all the window frames in our bedroom.
Beautiful location, good facilities, friendly and helpful staff, excellent food.
The room was very small for the price, the bathroom was a closet!
Amazing location. Lovely public rooms. Nice staff.
The bedroom was really small. The bathroom was tired and the grouting around the bath had seen better days and didn’t look very clean. Didn’t like the window between the toilet / bathroom and the bedroom. There were shutters but found it a bit bizarre.
The attention to detail is so lovely. Everyone was really helpful and we enjoyed the food, the surroundings and the spa. A really beautiful getaway. The female members of staff had to put up with a pretty misogynistic guest while we were there (which we witnessed at breakfast) and they kept their cool and handled his rudeness with grace and patience. A lot of friendly professionals work here and you can see they put love into their work!
Wonderful weekend away for the wedding. Beautiful hotel. Very comfortable room, delicious breakfast and dinner at the Brasserie, fantastic bar with Laslo's bespoke coctails. Very attentive and kind staff. All of that in the stunning Yorkshire Dales setting. I would definitely recommend and can't wait to stay there again.
.
Wonderful stay, will definitely return. Thank you.
