Convenient location. Comfortable beds (but benefit of that was completely negated by cascading water from the gutter – see below).
The gutter above our room was overflowing. The water was cascading down onto a pipe running along the outside wall just below our window. The noise it made was so disturbing that we had to close the window, so the room got really stuffy and uncomfortable. It was not the only overflowing gutter that we noticed. Suggestion: fix your gutters – your guests will sleep better, and it will prevent possible problems with damp that will cost far more to fix in the long run. The coffee provided at breakfast is undrinkable. It is served from an urn which is kept hot, always a bad move with coffee. It tastes like a shedload of cheap and nasty instant coffee has been stirred into the urn once the water has been heated. Suggestion: there is a bean-to-cup machine in the bar – either move it into the breakfast room or buy another one, and throw the urn away (you could freecycle it, or add it to the pile of junk that had been deposited on the bank outside our bedroom). Also, get someone on your staff who enjoys good coffee and put them in charge of the coffee machine. Running out of croissants quite early on at Sunday breakfast suggests that there is something wrong with stock control. Please provide bread that is not ultra-processed. Maybe support a local bakery and get them to supply real bread. Tinned tomatoes for breakfast – have you no shame? Sticky handrails on the stairs need attention with some soap and water.
Great location. Nice spa. Nice grub.
Good
A little larger room perhaps
We wanted somewhere to break the journey on the way to Cornwall and this hotel worked well. We had two rooms, our daughters were next door and we all felt safe and comfortable. Not super luxurious but good for the money.
Room, Breakfast & Dinner
The overall appearance is that of being 'Tired' and in need of a little TLC. A view from the room occupied was that of the room covered in places, with deep puddle. In other places bushes are growing. This cannot be anything other than damaging the structure.
Hotel is generally clean, bed is comfy. Some elements of bathroom need repair.
The hotel gives some advice on getting to hotel avoiding country lanes, these need to be more specific.
Good choice of breakfast options and attentive staff ensuring that these were replenished. Clean swimming pool and changing room facilities.
Room was a bit dated and the lighting wasn't good. Walls are thin so was disturbed at times by guests / staff walking past in the corridor and opening adjacent doors. From the advertised photos, it would seem that some rooms are a better quality than others.
The staff member at the front desk was really lovely and helpful
The room was really warm even after opening windows to try and cool it down
The staff were lovely and so accomodating! The room was clean and comfy and the location was beautiful! I had a lovely morning in the pool and left very relaxed
The breakfast selection was a little lacking, but that's just me being picky!
Location
The bath broke, couldn’t shower or bath as the water leaked through to the downstairs room, the downstairs room got a refund even though they could use their facilities I couldn’t use mine and didn’t get a refund ? Work that out
The hotel has character
Nothing.
great staff and good breakfast
Narrow lanes to get to the property
Good stop for us on our long trip home. I had a hot stone massage with Emily (much needed after many hours on the motorbike) which was brilliant. Room was clean.
Like others have said, the facilities / hotel is aging. The swimming pool designed as a deck level but not enough water to run off into the drains/filters so cleanliness questionable.
Nice location pleasant staff
Choice of food limted but good quality. Bathroom very small. Bed you could feel springs in mattress not a good night sleep
Stayed here a few times, always good value, lovely staff etc, but this was my favourite stay so far…Had a lovely surprise this time by being upgraded! Very grateful for this!! Thank you. It’s a beautiful old building with interesting features, and in a good location, not too far from the airport.
Some of the fixtures and fittings are a bit worn.
Everything, the staff were lovely, the Spa was nice, if a little spaced out, and the breakfast was perfect. There's plenty of parking and the location is stunning.
Location looks nice from a distance.
Walls in the annexe block are paper thin and very outdated. Could hear everything in multiple adjacent rooms
We felt very welcome, our dog was also given a welcome pack which included a toy, some treats, and a roll of poo bags (always handy to have extras!) breakfast was delicious. Our room was exceptionally clean, and very spacious.
I cannot think of anything I didn't like about our stay
Room was as expected comfy and clean. The staff were very accommodating. breakfast was great
N/A
Our room was lovely but the sound proofing was a bit of a let down, we backed onto the stairs and some other guests were rather "heavy footed" going up & down right into the early hours !
Poor sound proofing - see above
To many stairs I am 67 years old and put on the top floor if I am honest your rooms need refurbishing it’s very dated
My grandaughter & I liked the Spa & pool. We thought the majority of the staff were very helpful & pleasant. The breakfast was very good.
The evening meal in the bar was disappointing and not worth the money charged. My garlic bread had no garlic on it.
Loved the views, acess the the pool, sauna and steam room. We used the facilities in the hotel and the staff were friendly.the food. People say its expensive. Having lived in London and surrounding areas I dont think £72 was bad for 2 aholic drinks, 2 cokes, 2 starters. 2 mains and 2 sides.
First was hair in the breakfast food. Second was hair in the bed. Long hair. Once the bed was pulled back. Only 1 bath towel and 1 hand. The the cupboard there was a 2nd bath towel it eas dirty. The beds were solid and you could feel the springs through them. The rooms are not sound proof either. The first night from 1am to 4am all we could hear was a child crying its head off. Match that with the bed it wasn't a great night sleep
Location and price, friendliness, pool. Potential tennis.
Sad about the state of the 2 tennis courts. Fan noise from outside.
The staff were helpful, and sought to make our stay comfortable but they were being dealt a bad hand by the dated and compromised building and the lack of investment by Best Western in the facilities. There was only so much they could do to address the numerous issues with this hotel, and this review is in no way a criticism of the staff at the hotel.
The hotel was a total disappointment and our stay was the worst hotel stay we have experienced in years, for the following reasons: 1. The hotel is full of stairs with no lift, and staff did not compensate for this by taking cases to and from rooms, which meant dragging cases up multiple flights of stairs. 2. The rooms were pokey (small) and the decor tired. The first bedroom we were shown reminded me of the room I had at university when I was in a house share. It was also roasting hot with no air con, so we opened the windows but the noise from the motorway, and the bins being put out meant we quickly shut them again. We asked for another room and were shown three others (two of which were just as bad, the third was a bit bigger). 3. The pool is limited to 6 adults at a time and you have to book. The spa was under staffed and the full compliment of services wasnt offered. 4. There is a nice large terrace to sit out on but it's so close to the M5 that the noise of the motorway is overwhelming and spoils it. We felt it was unusable. 5. The hotel is overpriced for what it is, it should cost about £50 a night based on the lack of quality provided, not £100 a night which is what we had paid when we booked. Our stay here came at the end of a trip to Cardiff, and Bristol where we stayed in far nicer (4 star) hotels for a lower price. 6. Soundproofing in the building is so poor that you can hear people walking in the corridors, walking in the room above you, and even plugging in a charger in the room adjacent. I would strongly dissuade anyone from staying here, and instead encourage you to find somewhere else in one of the nearby towns (wookey, cheddar, wells etc) or an Airbnb. Best Western should be ashamed and up their game.

Spa Facilities
Nothing
The setting and the staff was lovely
We had to close our windows on the second night due to the smell of smoke, I think from the chimney
Nothing
The room was dated and far too much light got in in the morning. The spa layout was horrible (walking through the gym in your swimmers) and was not clean. Also having to book slots in the spa and pool on arrival was a surprise and a bad start to the trip. The pool was dirty. The tables around the bar area were dirty and sticky to touch. The whole place felt unclean and this really affected our stay. The breakfast was also poor and many of the order options on the menu were not available. A really bad stay.
Lovely location
Tired and dated fine for just one night
Helpful friendly staff
Stayed few times think menu needs changing
location was lovely
We had mosquitos in our room every night. bed and pillows were not comfortable. our superior room was not big and not that clean, our door didnt close properly. the food in the hotel was terrible. even the coffee in the morning is made with powdered milk.
After parking our car we checked in at reception. The check in was really smooth. We had to register our car on their machine. We were informed about meals , bar and , leisure facility. We were given the key for the room however this did not work and I had to return to reception to get another key. The room was clean and tidy . We had food and drinks from the bar which I found was really well made , arrived hot and tasty. As for the the drinks there was a good choice to cater most people's needs.I tried the local ale found it enjoyable. Found the staff helpful in reception , bar and the restaurant when ever I asked for something it was no trouble for them. I noticed this for other guests too . I liked the grounds of the hotel to walk around . THe leisure facilities were really great and enjoyed the swim . Enjoyed the drink on the terrace with the countryside view .
The hotel has a number of steps and no lift this was not an issue for our group but noticed that the elderly guest had to be extra careful when going up / down the stairs. Some area of the hotel were a little dated but considering the age of the building and its layout this is to be expected. Thus none of the rooms have AC although portable FAns were provided there were not enough for each room. THe grounds needed some TLC with the overhanging branches and hedges in around the car park. I had to request for fresh towels on the third day and tea and coffee daily. Each day after on returning to the room the key did not work and had to return to reception to get a new one.
Beautiful views and lovely bar stretching out onto the balcony! Great food and lovely service! Great value for money
I didn't like that I had to walk through the gym to get to the steam room/sauna.
Location Staff friendliness
Room looked a bit tired and pool was a bit cold
Beautiful peaceful location. Breakfast good.
Hot and not offered a fan. Phone in room not working. Me, husband and my 3 children under 10. Covered in bites from staying one night .
Loved the pool and the view/sunset from the terrace.
Steam room was too hot but may have been cos it was the end of the day. Bar service could have been improved.
The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The hotel, which is set in lovely surroundings, is unpretentious yet comfortable and more than met all our basic needs. The free breakfast was varied and plentiful, the pool was well-maintained and the children really enjoyed playing tennis on the court.
Very friendly staff and dog friendly which made holiday weekend extra enjoyable
Great location with a terrace view that takes you beyond. Dog-friendly and staff super helpful and nice. Breakfast not so much vegan-friendly, which was a bit disappointing, but no complaints here; I'm used to the fact that hotels don't have much of a choice. They were so nice to give me plant-based milk, granola, and fruit, and I'm full. Love the dog welcome box.
Nothing
Comfortable but a little old fashioned in places though work has been carried out New windows and curtains
Breakfast not very good selection on offer limited At 9.15 am no pastries left no fruit yoghurts and staff not restocking.Gluten free very limited told only sausage was available and it would take 20 min to cook Ended up with beans on toast staff seemed to need training on gluten free food that was available
Staff were fantastic on front desk, bar and restaurant.
Room was not clean. Silverfish in bathroom indicating damp. Horrendous smell in bedroom which left me sleeping at football of bed, and woken by the smell neatly every hour. Outside bar area could be amazing with that view but is mediocre. Needs tidying.
It was dog friendly - more so the staff than the facilities. Good gym, sauna, steam room. Pool was small but not over crowded when we were there.
The food - it had a very fried and out the freezer feel to it although breakfast was good. Only stumbled across the tennis court on our last day so glad we used that but courts were very unkept.
The building is lovely, near to the small town. Wonderful view.
The food .Breakfast was not good. Plates were not clean so it was not pleasent having to find a clean plate from the clean pile.
Beautiful location
Quite shabby and dated in places
Lovely location, staff were very friendly and helpful. Value for money. Evening meal was very hot and very nice. Plenty of choice for breakfast.
Found a few hairs one on my slice of lemon on my fish, and one on the saucer in the room. Would have liked to see some fresh fruit for breakfast e.g. pineapple, melon Perhaps a rubber mat or handle in the bath, as it was slippy. Hot tap on sink perhaps should have have note saying "very hot water".
Love this place. Rooms in main part have always been top notch. Food great. Staff great. Great walks nearby. Swimming pool fabulous.
What’s not to like
The surroundings
Lots of different places to hang out, fully equipped gym and spa with a nice view on the country. The premises are clean.
Confusing to navigate, both to get to the room and to maneuver in the pool/spa. A very nice courtyard is submerged in laundry noise. Little fruit for breakfast. No fridge in the room.
Beautiful location
Very noisey creaky floors and corridors kept us up at night
Good place to stay
The Sofas are to low
Very good value. We enjoyed the hotel that despite being full was not noisy. The pool was very pleasant and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the place
It’s an older property which was clean and comfortable but not easy with heavy luggage or for those with accessibility needs
Staff where all realy freindly.food was good and so was the pool .l9ve the fact that adult only swim was only 6 people allowed st 1 time
The outside of the lesuire part could do eith a face lift
Good value .. dog friendly and liked the spa facilities
Decor A bit out dated .. didn’t like two beds pushed together to make a large double as I kept falling down the crack in the middle
The location was lovely and the views amazing.
Bed - could feel the springs Bathroom Doorhandle - squeaky, so woke other person during the night. Tea/coffee - silly little shelf, could put a corner floor to ceiling unit to give more space Hangers - 9 hooks but only 3 actual hangers in wardrobe Bulb - not working above the bed, I’m sure this could have been sorted but as child was asleep when noticed didn’t want to disturb him by asking for a new bulb to be fitted. Bar meal- 6 yr old has gluten intolerance and the bar could not provide anything suitable for him as a snack/light meal. I managed to purchase a few bits from the shops, I then came back to have a drink on the terrace and asked for a plate for son to put his snacks on. They didn’t want him to eat on the terrace (no one else there). But I reminded them that they couldn’t provide anything for him so had to provide my own. I didn’t have a meal myself as I don’t eat in front of a 6 yr old if he can’t eat too. I had purchased a sandwich which I ate in the room. Breakfast - I said son had gluten intolerance and apart from offering a gluten free roll there was no other information, they couldn’t say if sausages where GF, no information on cross contamination. Generally the breakfast wasn’t the best, like warm, rubbery scrambled eggs, sausages anemic looking, mush for tomatoes.
The pool, the bar and the location.
The electric went off on the first night of our stay, the tea and coffee facilities were poor and the bed was not comfy.
Good value and great quiet location.
Access to some rooms requiring lots of stairs - no lift. Food & drink at the high side
Views were outstanding
Stayed in an annexe to the main hotel.. which was ok... but would have preferred to stay in the main hotel
Staff were friendly
Room booked was an executive suite which was more akin to just a bedroom in the eves. Room overlooked the Aircon system for the main hotel so was noisy all night. Heat of the day did not help and the room was equipped only with a small desk fan which was next to useless without the windows being open and more Aircon unit noise. Shower had limited water pressure. Exasperated I only had a barsnack for dinner which was ok. Into the later hours the electricity kept dropping, the on off drops and the on off back up gennie kicking in mean even sleeping was interrupted with the mini fan switching on off on off. Not a great stay.
Lovely location and character of a historic estate house. Got free room upgrade to bigger room.
Breakfast, not very good selection , very little to choose from. Hot buffet not very good quality. Fried eggs had to be requested especially.
Room - very clean and modern Breakfast - lovely and did vegetarian sausages for my husband on request Dinner - really nice and good value for money. Wait staff very friendly.
Couldn't really fault it and already planning our next stay there.
Been here many times. Always friendly, clean and in a beautiful setting
Everything
We love The Webbington! Brought our daughter and grandchildren. The family room set up got a big thumbs up from the kids! Great onsite facilities too. They loved the pool.
The breakfast quality could be better.
The location is beautiful, the staff were very good with us they even put a iron and ironing board in the room for us . The bed was very comfortable we are already discussing when we will be back
Nice location.
The facilities wasn't great.
Everything
Getting to the location
Lovely location and lovely staff BUT we stayed in the newer part if the hotel not in the original old building which was fine but because the floor boards make so much noise, we were woken by every one that passed our door and walked overhead. The walls must be very thin because we could literally hear everything people were saying next door and they weren't being loud. There was a strange smell in the bedroom which meant we had to keep the window open..the view was a weedy bank a foot away from the window covered with foam and rubbish. We also only had one towel between the two of us. The bed gave us both back ache so we had to get up and walk about, the bedside lights were also broken. Its a shame because id always wanted to stay here but its very run down and sad and it needs major updating and refurbishment. While I understand that the main building is listed, there's a lot of updating that is very over due. We wont be back unfortunately
The photo is the view from our room
Excellent staff, rooms were great size. Pool was nice and clean
Smelt of damp and bit of mould on curtain in smaller room. But apart from that everything was A* thank you
Location was good
Staff were over worked and disinterested . Breakfast was very poor quality and beans tomatoes and scrambled egg were cold. The rooms were very tired and the bed was so comfortable .
Nice pool and sauna/steam. Dining room and food were good and staff very pleasant.
Room was too small, bed in tiny alcove with little room either side.
Pool was far to steam room not clean
The location was great, as were the views. Plenty of parking!
We were in a back room because there was a wedding on! I’d like a room at the front next time but no wedding!! My fault, not yours!!!
Room good breakfast excellent staff very good
Drive into the city
The pool
Bright light in the courtyard
Al of it was very good we love webbington been , 3 times n last6,weeks
Fantastic breakfast patio area.location
I like the swimming pool coffee the bed was good and the clean bathroom
Bed was springy, the food wasnt so good.
Lots of great amenities, quite, clean and friendly staff
It was clean
The bed was very uncomfortable. The curtains were too narrow for both windows which mean the room opposite could see into our room no matter how we closed them. Was really disappointing that the swimming pool was only open for children to swim for a short period of time and not allowed in after 1730 on any day.
The building is lovely, the bar terrace,
Good location, spacious room and lovely pool
It’s a bit tired
Great location ❤️ perfect spot
The location was beautiful. Although the hotel was big, it felt small and cosy. I thought the value for money was excellent and the receptionist that greeted me was the best receptionist I've come across in a hotel. All the staff could not help you enough and was amazing
Checking out and having to go home
Rooms were clean
The food, and how run down it was
Great location, friendly staff, great food
Rooms were very warm, was in middle of summer, may be a fan per room would help
Lovely building. Lovely staff ... Huge shout out to Kat who went far and above to make my stay comfortable. Lovely public areas. Nice pool. Wonderful views from our room. Plenty of parking. EV charging. Again ... Lovely staff.
The extreme heat/weather. NOT the fault of the hotel. However there is no Aircon BUT that is rarely going to be an issue in the UK. The staff gave us not one, but two fans in an effort to make our stay comfortable.
The setting is amazing. The spa and swimming pool are amazing and so are the staff.
There were a few hairs (long and dark and I’m blonde haired) in the shower and sink in the bathroom. The tea and coffee were not well stocked and there was no milk. There was one bottle of water and two of us staying there. It’s an old building, so you can really hear the guests in the other rooms around you. Especially upstairs from you.
Lovely hotel set in beautiful country side. Great views from the terrace. Great venue for functions.
Aittle of the beaten track.
Nice location, nice facilities
Nothing
Lovely looking property, nice location
Breakfast was OK, thought the products could've been better. Quality was average
Friendly reception. We had been given a free upgrade to accomodate our accessibilty needs
We had not been informed that there would be a wedding reception immediately below our room, with african drums until late evening
Lovely staff, pretty setting.
We arrived in a heat wave. We had two rooms for a family of five which were in the attic. The rooms really shouldn’t have been offered in this weather, at least not without a warning! They were incredibly hot, particularly room 18, which had no air flow at all. Curtains had obviously been left open through the day letting the sun in, and windows were closed. There was one small, malfunctioning desktop fan between both rooms. Staff were very kind but all they could offer to help was cold water from the bar - they had run out of ice. Two of us ended up on the floor of the cooler room. The beds were uncomfortable, pillows incredibly flat, mosquitoes in the room and curtains don’t shut the light out- not much sleep was had!
Leaving
Stunning views
Liked the view and quirkiness of the property.
Some fans in indoor seating areas would have been nice in the extreme heat.
Lovely overnight stay to break up a trip down to Cornwall. Great location & facilities.
pool, room, location was near cheddar and weston super mare so good for one/two day visits for tourists. The pool and gym was also good.
Breakfast, room was quite hot and was a bit far but you can't exactly change a whole building layout.
OK but a little tired
The curtains allowed in too much light as the rail was too far from the window and the security light was on all night
Homely
Too many stairs up to our room
The family-room was more like a small appartement with 2 beds in each its own small "bedroom", connected however with each other and the master bedroom as there were no doors separating them. Great breakfast and lovely place. It was spacious and gave us a perfect start into our holidays and just 22 minutes from Bristol airport.
Only thing: little out dated and carpet floors.
The hotel facilities were very good indeed. We used the pool and gym on a couple of occasions. The breakfast was plentiful and well priced. The hotel is well located for exploring the surrounding areas. We found the staff to be friendly, helpful and welcoming. The bed was comfortable, leading to good night's sleep.
It is an old hotel with no aircon and we stayed during the heatwave. Which meant it was hot and uncomfortable, especially in the rooms. The roads around the hotel are very small, with lots of passing areas. Several times, we were forced to reverse up to 200 yards, due to oncoming tractors. Though the gym is big and well equipped, the equipment is dated and some of it needs replacing or repairing.
