On first impressions the hotel looks very impressive but once inside it is a bit tired sadly. Food in the resteraunt is not great its ok but not brilliant. The bar area is more of a corridor with a poor selection of beers. The room we had was clean but adequate and no more . However the spa and pool are very good . Overall tired and in need of some updating and refreshing .
A beautiful property with a homely feel. Great facilities and very welcoming.
Nothing.
stayed here lots of times know most of the staff and the food is excellent
length of stay
The location was stunning. The staff were very friendly. The food in the restaurant was good as were the staff in there. We used the swimming pool, jacuzzi, and.sauna. All were clean as were the changing areas. All in all an excellent stay. I will definitely return.
We weren't able to use the patio as there.was a wedding going.on but that was a minor thing
Good location, very clean
Unfortunately the Bistro is closed on Sunday evenings so we had to eat in the restaurant; a bit more pricey than our usual. Good food tho.
A lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. The staff were very friendly, the room was spot on and our meal in the Courtyard Cafe was really good, very good value for money.
Nothing it was spot on.
Die Lage des Hotels.
Beautiful setting. Room was clean and beds were comfortable
Bedrooms needed a facelift, dated furniture and bathroom fittings
Venue
All good
The location was convenient for the event we were attending and the reception staff were lovely.
Breakfast and the breakfast room was uninspiring. Internal room so no natural light or outlook. Food was nothing special. Our bedrooms were all a bit run down with only one having a decent view the other all looked out onto a roof with one having frosted out window as it looked onto another bedroom window. The felt more like store rooms converted into bedrooms. The restaurant wasn't open on the Sunday and there was no where to eat food we purchased other than our bedrooms.
Convenient stop over whilst walking the Wolds way.
Little to dislike
Comfy beds and decent breakfast (at extra cost). Staff were friendly and place looks special. Pool is nice ( at extra cost).
The hotel suggests you can walk around the grounds but actually there are no paths for residents to use unless they are golfers. Relatively expensive for one night with additional cost of breakfast and spa facilities (we didn't know about the extra for spa until we had booked - usually in our experience hotel residents can use pool free). We stayed in the lodge which had a very scruffy entrance and looked down at heel. We were woken by residents on first floor as sound proofing is poor between floors.
Lovely scenic setting. Good evening meal. Staff made extra special details on dessert for our wedding anniversary.
As there was a wedding event taking place we couldn't sit outside on the terrace .
Great location on beautiful grounds.
We had no view from the room.
Comfy beds and plenty plug sockets. Biscuits with tea and coffee tray in room.
Very stained carpet with iron burn in one corner. Horrible shower curtain and overhead shower couldnt be lowered. No window outlook.
Swimming pool
Unfortunately, when we arrived we were given a room that had no natural light as it faced a brick wall. That wasn’t the biggest problem. It looked and felt dirty and when we pulled back the sheets there were at least 4 human hairs on the bed sheet. Unacceptable at any level. I complained and in fairness, in the end they upgraded us to a suite. This was a bigger room with a lot of lovely natural light. However, the carpet hadn’t been hoovered and there were multiple iron burns and worst of all, a blood stain. Thankfully, we had been provided with slippers so wore them to ensure our feet didn’t touch the carpet.
Het was heel schoon en het personeel zeer hulpvaardig.
Niets
Beautiful hotel and grounds. Excellent attentive staff. Very efficient check in. Well designed rooms, comfy bed. Restaurant meal and service very good. 2nd visit to hotel for 1 night stay.
Shower was bit old and had low water pressure. But will likely be rectified. Staff are aware of issue.
Staff warm and welcoming
Room had frosted glass windows and smelt damp
It was ok..
Booked disability room for myself for 2 nights(full booking was 2x rooms (disability x1 for 2 nights) + 1x room for 1 night but this ended up been allocated to been THE DISABILITY ROOM THAT COULDN'T be swapped..I couldn't used the shower or the bath safely so had to have a wash in the sink with a hand towel 🤬
Lovely location with friendly and helpful staff.
Nice location, good facilities plenty of parking
Poor food. Dinner unimpressive and breakfast just poor. Ran out of most food and broken coffee machine lead to needless queue.
Great building, park and location. Quiet and good value
A little tired
Lovely
Nothing
Absolutely everything,I made a mistake not submitting type of room so on arrival I waited and they speedily dealt with the changes. Wonderful setting, room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The exterior and interior were just breathtaking. The Pool was superb in a lovely church like building, son used the steam room and sauna too and at an additional £14 per stay it's worth it. There must be lots of history attached to this site. Would definitely recommend!!
Can't think of anything🤔
Value for money. Facilities very good - spa lovely, evening meal excellent. Room comfortable. Golf course very good and flat so easy walking. Golf Pro always friendly and welcoming.
No complaints
Very comfortable bed.
Bathroom door didn't close properly
Location was great and the spa was really relaxing
Slightly dated rooms but to be expected for a building of this age, hot water for the shower was a little unpredictable but aside from that it was a great stay
Only stayed one night and didn’t arrive till late
Only stayed one night and didn’t arrive till late
Didn't have breakfast, location suits us.9
Everything was OK,no complaints
The room was clean and comfortable & grounds beautiful.
I arrived at the hotel about 1130pm after attending my daughter’s wedding. I waited approximately 20 minutes before the porter turned up! He was not welcoming or apologetic about me having to wait. He made me feel that I was an inconvenience to him at this time of the night! The morning reception person on check was really good. You need to sort out your evening porter!
Amazing location Hearty breakfast Friendly and efficient staff Great spa
The atmosphere was great, we used the pool facilities. It was very clean. Staff were very friendly and the Castle and grounds were excellent 👌
Clean, beautiful grounds, and facilities were good
We booked the restaurant Friday night, and wasn’t keen on staff hovering over us , ready to snatch a dirty plate away, this all was the case at breakfast time .
It was very striking and a lovely location. The staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. The facilities were good. The bedroom had trouser press, iron and ironing board and a decent hairdryer. Tea and coffee making items were also provided. And the room had a fan which was essential in the heatwave. Good storage in the bedroom too.
It was a bit tired in the decor and the bathrooms were in need of updating and modernisation. The bedroom carpets were past their best. Our room had an ordinary double bed and in most hotels we have stayed a king size bed is standard. So we found the bed a bit small.
Location and golf course
No windows and view for breakfast
The location and setting is wonderful a lovely place to relax their staff always polite and helpful.
We only stayed one night so things were okay however it’s the little things that let Cave Castle down, like no hot water at times and restaurant windows being dirty, we eat from the À la cart menu well presented however the vegetables were cold and hard and didn’t improve after complaining, the “Muddy Boots” Chardonnay was excellent.
The fine building and grounds
The room and bath shower were extremely dated
Beautiful building and surroundings
We had 2 double rooms and a suite. The views were of a brick wall. The furniture was old; wardrobe door not secure, handles missing or not matching. Noisy toilet, no shampoo or conditioner, one of the showers didn't work.
The beds were comfy and some of the staff were OK.
The place is very disorganised. I tried to book a meal for 8 and they sent emails first to say it had been booked in the bistro and then to say they couldn't do that as the bistro was closed. There was no offer of any alternative. I rang to ask about the restaurant instead and they said that I could book if we pre ordered. I booked it and sent the ore order form with the time and date. They emailed again to confirm the time and date, which was unnecessary. When we got there they told us THEY had booked it for the wrong date! They accomodated us but more faff. There was no request for card details when we checked in and no information on bar opening times or.breakfast times offered. When we came to pay for the meal we had to pay for food and drinks seperately, more faff. At breakfast I tried to pay at reception beforehand but was told I couldn't. I was then handed a card machine to pay halfway through my cereal. I asked if I could finish my breakfast first and was told I couldn"t. The same was then done for each of my friends. It wasn't the staffs fault I am sure as they had been told to follow rules but they were applying them to the letter. I gave some polite feedback that it wasnt customer friendly to not feel trusted, at the end of the day they have my bank details from the booking, but they were adament. During breakfast, things ran out .staff had to be asked tor plates twice, then napkins as the plates out were dangerously hot, the toaster didnt work and the food was over priced for what it was. I would not recommend.
Amazing hotel in a fab location Very clean and comfortable Friendly helpful staff The spa was great and the treatments out of this world
Nothing to dislike !
I liked the look of the building but the.room i was in felt a bit tired. Food was a disappointment so i went to the local pub for meals after the first night.
Odd system of having a tab So u give your room number. But then they print something off for u to sign, so that process doesn't save time. Its quicker to just swipe a card. Odd out of date system
The room was comfortable, clean and of a good size. The pool was lovely, as were the grounds. Dinner in the restaurant was of a good quality. Second visit here, lovely area, will visit again.
Breakfast is poor compared to dinner in the main restaurant.
Loved everything about our stay Wish we had found it sooner
Nothing,we loved the hotel and spa
The breakfast, which we had on all 4 x mornings, was excellent, just a shame that the coffee machines didn't dispense de-caffinated coffee as it was unavailable.
A smaller kettle that could have been filled in the bathroom sink that we had in our bathroom, we did ask for a smaller kettle at reception and were told that housekeeping would be informed, but it never happened? We bought water to use in the large kettle for our use.
Lovely location with spacious clean bedrooms. Quiet and comfortable.
Outside tables needed clearing it spoilt the initial impression of the hotel.
Lovely surroundings, great staff.
Very busy on a Sunday but manageable.
The team were all lovely, particularly Devon ( apologies if misspelt) and the chap in the bistro. The hotel was well place for the local party I was attending. I was provided with information about a local run and my request for the beds to be made up into twins was all sent prior to my stay.
There was a used plaster on the floor of the bedroom. I had been booked into an ‘accessible room’ without prior knowledge. If I had known I would have booked accommodation at the local pub. I was told the twin bed set up was not an option, but the double bed was in fact linked single beds. The toilet seat did not have a lid and there was visible dirt/ excrement on the seat in at least two places. Because of the very small sink bowl it wasn’t possible to fill the kettle in the sink, instead I had to balance the kettle and fill up using the plastic cups. This is a small but irritating detail given my stay was already ruined. I did request a room change but was informed the hotel was fully booked and there was no manager on site for me to be able to speak to.
Hotel setting. Room size. Friendly staff.
Room 037 aspect. No outside view.
Beautiful hotel in a stunning setting. Very comfortable and lovely staff.
Nothing
Lovely area, beautiful building and surroundings
Would benefit from air con
Very interesting place to stay. Who doesn’t love a Castle! Lovely location, great facilities including the Spa and Golf club. There were 3 places to eat. , including the golf club and the food was pretty good. Nice bar and we enjoyed the Spa, but couldn’t get to play the gold course as there was a golf competition on.
Our room was a little on the small side and the bed was also a standard double. The food was of good quality.
Efficient staff when checking in and warmly greeted on arrival. Room was clean and facilities good. Very comfy bed, beautiful surroundings.
Carpet in room a little tired and radiator in bathroom was rusty, doesn’t affect use but beginning to all need a bit of a refresh. We thought breakfast might have been included in the price.
Amazing building and grounds. Close to where we were attending an event.
Bit dated and room was too warm hot - a fan was provided it struggled to keep it chilled so opened the windows only to be woken by the window cleaner the following morning.
The whole building and surroundings are beautiful the onsite spa as well and salon is a bonus
The rooms do get hot in summer but in the rooms a fan is provided which helped :)
Nice grounds and building, nice room, nice breakfast
The mattress was too soft/old for me. On site food was too expensive so I ate elsewhere, unsecured wifi.
Good buffet breakfast on offer
The breakfast was served in an alternative location to the restaurant and payment was demanded before you were allowed to sit down. The food serving times at the various restaurants, bistros and golf club are very limited, therefore we couldn't eat in the evening as everywhere had stopped serving food.
Good location for my purposes, lovely setting, have stayed several times before.
Disappointing room (34), warm evening, hoped to be able to open window on second floor and get a breeze. Window only opened 2” and faced on to another window about 1-2m across a narrow divide. Twin beds requested, got a double. Shower was pathetic and temperamental.
Bistro, comfy room, friendly staff, easy.
Fitness facilities & pool. Comfortable room.
VIEW of a brick wall and into another window a few feet from our bedroom window!
Best choice at breakfast we have had at a hotel. Lots of fruit and nuts dried and fresh..cereals yogurts .ham..cheese ..full english and pastries.. Function we were at fantastic buffet. Goos size room very clean and quiet.
Rooms are a bit worn carpet and bed.
Beautiful surroundings and excellent dining available. Being able to sit outside in the sunshine was wonderful.

Attractive historic property
Room had window with a view of brick wall metre away so dark. Shower still ran cold after 10 minutes
The grounds were beautiful
Had to change room because of shower. Found Sue on reception to be quite aggressive when dealing with our complaint, no name badge, only smiled when asked her name. However Sue from housekeeping was extremely helpful when asked for help. Restaurant very friendly, welcoming and efficient.
The hotel was clean and full of character, but I could understand if it was not to everybody's taste, as suits of armour and similar items were scattered about the hotel.
The bedroom and bathroom were tired and in need of a refurbishment, but adequately sized and comfortable. Curtains could do with being replaced, as they kept very little light out due to the time of year and did very little to keep the room dark from around 4am. Hotels are in the hospitality industry; some of the staff need to be reminded of this, as some of my colleagues were not treated in a very hospitable way during the short stay.
Great grounds, character building, an amazing location.
Room comfort is subpar, poor climate control, very basic shower facilities and unconfortable, paper thin pillows.
Excellent value
The property was exceptional
Comfortable and clean and the spa was a lovely addition. Quiet.
Rooms were dated. Part of the venue was out of bounds due to a wedding that we were not advised about either at the time of booking or our check in.
The idea of a castle stay The grounds The golf clubhouse was much better run
The room was not clean. The staff were a bit rude, like you were putting them out, very rushed, quality was slack did not match the price or external look of the venue. Cocktails served but not as they should be made, appeared to be half measure for full price, their take on a named cocktail but not even as described.
Room i had didn't have a view, window obscured and when opened went out to a gully about 3 feet wide so no real fresh air to the room. It was hot with no air con, but a fan was provided which gave some relief
I would like to thank Devon and Jonathan for accommodating an unscheduled increase in Dinner guests and allowing us to dine outside due to the lovely weather. This put a lot of extra strain on on what was an already busy evening for all the staff but made my surprise birthday celebrations very special.
Absolutely stunning property set in beautiful grounds!
The shower was broken only allowing boiling hot water during a heat wave with no air con. Please update your hotel and invest in it. It will be the difference between stunning location and luxury hotel
It’s beautiful in location and the building itself
No air con of any sort / no cooling aid
Location
Very hot in rooms
The building was amazing. Rooms were large and clean, very comfortable. Bars and eateries were well priced and very nice.
Their was nothing to dislike
Beautiful grounds. Comfortable stay. Clean
Nothing is n particular. For the price paid it was a comfortable nights stay.
It was a lovely venue and only a shame I couldn't spend some time utilising the facilities but a friend's wedding has priority lol
I can't fault the place my only gripe would be I had no view just another wall
Lovely setting with grand entrance Plenty of parking Choice of bars/cafes Clean Staff pleasant Nice walks in the area
Not really geared up to solo travellers There are no single rooms, so you always pay the same as for two people The charge to access the leisure club is per room, so again you pay the same as two people making it not worth doing. The bistro has offers for couples (e.g two meals with a bottle of wine) but nothing for single people
Beautiful hotel
Everything was great
It was a lovely old looking castle type hotel
Nothing
Gorgeous building, quiet location & friendly staff, and ducks! Large room with a proper bathtub. Great place for a midweek getaway.
We stayed midweek when it’s quiet. You have to pay extra for use of the facilities (pool, gym sauna etc)
The Breakfast was lovely although it was all self service which wasnt to my expectations. Tea and Coffee served to the table is a minimum standard in my opinion.
Initially we were going to plan our wedding here at first thoughts but then .. Staff attitude was very un-welcoming and un polite, everything seemed a chore and hard work when requesting the smallest of requests. The main bar didnt open until 4pm very disheartening and the the main bar didnt open at all as far as I could see on the Saturday. The only place to eat and have a drink before 4pm was in the Bistro area, which had a very small verity of Alcoholic beverages. Although the staff within the bestro area were brilliant and cheerful (Thank god or we may have left that very night). We were also very upset that we were not told that a prom night was happening on that weekend, and were kept awake until gone midnight with the sound of the party below. ( we booked well in advance so I believe that this could have been discussed prior to our stay ) The weekend stay was a very very hot one, the rooms are not air conditioned and a small fan was our only source of relief... absolutely terrible.. We will never stay here again that is for sure if I could give it minus figures I sure would!! The most upsetting thing for me was the fact that is was my partners birthday, and truly wanted a very special occasion for her which in my opinion was ruined. I booked for me and my partner to have a special meal at the resturant and as it says on the brochure, to wear smart clothing, which we did but was stood left waiting to be seated for 15 minutes even after booking with the reception to be seated, when another couple turned up to be seated (a heavily pregnant lady and her partner) they had the exact same issue and we though she was going to collapse at one stage the heat was terrible. When we were finally served our food it wasnt to my standards at all.... Bland and very small portions!
Easy check in.
Room was very dated, not very clean in places. Bed over soft and probably very old. Bathroom.was fine and mostly clean. No air-conditioning, so room was uncomfortably hot, so slept poorly. I wouldn't return.
The waiting staff were lovely and very helpful. But they needed more training on food allergies and need to learn the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan. The grounds were absolutely stunning and the gardeners must work very hard.
The hotel rooms are very old and tired, they don't have Aircon in the bedrooms which is nowadays must, we were there 3 days in all and the room was 40° degrees the first night, 38° and then 36° all they offered us was a fan which just moved hot air around! Although the bath tap got very hot water the shower never did!! The hotel was very full and the waiting staff, who were lovely, could not keep up with demand, and by Monday they had even run out of a lot of things even butter sachets (basic)! No one had ordered more over the weekend. The reception staff were not helpful at all, all in all would not recommend or go back.
Relaxed and beautiful setting
Beautiful a lot of characters
Nothing
The scenery was beautiful
No air conditioning in rooms, payed the same price as family who also stayed to get the smallest room with less facilities
Breakfast was extensive and catered for all tastes.
Basin plug in bathroom didn't work sufficiently for the basin to hold water.
The whole experience
Nothing
Staff were so helpful and friendly
No aircon
The location and historical venue
One older staff members customer service skills in the bistro could have been better, felt like you were putting her out Inexperienced bar staff passion fruit cocktail was shocking half glass and poor taste waste of money Room 33 shower pressure and temp not working as should reported to reception Floor in 102 could have been swept debris under chair £15 extra charge to use pool
Good leisure facilities, looks impressive from outside
Living on former glory, v tired inside. Bedrooms curtains closed when arrived , but when opened showed a brick wall 3yds away. Shower still cold after 15 minutes although basin tap produced warm water. Dining room looks like a public school dining room from the 1950’s but some good places to eat in town.
Really good location for us. Very clean and comfortable, good sized room.
The bathroom shower is ready for an upgrade.
It’s an absolutely beautiful place. There’s a lot to do there as well such as the health spa and golf course, the surrounding area is also beautiful.
The rooms are a little dated and could do with a spruce. I didn’t like the weird alarm on the door which was really annoying especially because we got back to our room quite late and were trying to be quiet. At 8am our toilet started bubbling and making a really loud noise and then the room stank of sewage. We reported this on check out just so the next guest didn’t have an issue but the guy just looked at me like I had two heads then said he’d check it out. We decided to hang around and have breakfast the next day but the courtyard restaurant was really dark and the guy working it did not smile even once, felt a bit unwelcome so went to the clubhouse instead. Friendly and polite, however those scrambled eggs are dire.
Spotlessly clean, friendly receptionist, great room in the old part of the building and excellent value.
Nothing
The courtyard eatery was very nice especially the meal including wine deal
Lovely building in a very rural setting close by to nice pubs & restaurants
The smell of the room was disgusting. It was like sewage and got worse throughout the nice causing us to feel nauseous. The spa was very dated and the steam room wasn’t working. It was a very complicated process trying to get a robe even after I’d spent £200 on treatments. Everything just seemed to be difficult and not a very relaxing stay to be honest. £10 just for an ice bucket to take to the room!!
The actual castle part where reception was very pretty and the breakfast was lovely.
I would say the value for money was poor. The room we were staying in was extremely outdated and didn’t look anything like the pictures. In addition to this, I had to pay £10 for a bucket and ice from the bar which I thought was extortionate. The facilities were ages away from the room which meant having to walk a long distance to the area where the pool and sauna was.
Pleasant welcome at a great hotel set in lovely grounds
