Hotel Bären Sigriswil

We were staying in a chalet in Sigriswil and discovered this wonderful restaurant/bar early in our stay. Large covered outdoor area with views of the gorgeous mountains. The staff is very kind, friendly and helpful. We had one meal which was so good in every way. We went back several times for drinks in the afternoon and were welcomed like regulars. The owner/manager, Beat Schmid, is such a wonderful man. He really cares about taking good care of his customers and making you feel welcome. We recommend this restaurant with the highest regard. You will not be disappointed.

We loved our stay! It was perfect for us to be out of the busy areas. Beautiful place! The staff Alexandria and Miguel were amazing. They were polite, attentive and friendly. We enjoyed their kindness and attention to details. They make it an extra special place to stay.

It's a excellent place. We had a one-bedroom apartment of huge size, with a kitchenette, large balcony, and even a washing machine. The views of Lake Thun were great. The breakfast was pretty good with good selection of foodstuffs. Excellent staff, friendly and helpful.

A beautiful property overlooking Lake Thun. The dining area has nice big windows with a beautiful view of the Alps. The staff were very polite and helpful.

Nice hotel “a bit old” but nice in a small village, with a fantastic view over the lake and mountains. We had a very nice room with balcony. New bathroom with very good showers. Breakfast served in the restaurant with Mountain View. Food in the restaurant was a bit under standard of what you could expect. Only 5 min walk to the panorama bridge. Perfect stop for one or two nights in the area of Thun lake. Will I use again, yes price and standard go hand in hand.

Very disappointing. It’s not a 4 star hotel at all. Mattress in one bed sloped, the other dipped in the middle, this meant our backs seized up when we woke. A lady kindly moved us but we ended up with a room without balcony, which we had booked. Breakfast disappointing. You are given a nespresso machine, kettle, sugar and creamer but no teabags or coffee, apparently you have to buy them. Received better hospitality elsewhere in Switzerland.

We stayed overnight as part of a hike around Lake Thun. The location is very convenient in Sigriswil, the rooms are clean, comfortable. We had a nice balcony and a very nice view. They have a pretty nice breakfast. However the staff running the place really ruined the experience for us. The person at the front desk looked completely bored and uninterested as she checked us in. Barely answered any questions. We specifically asked about places for dinner. She told us the only option was the hotel restaurant. We later found out that we could take a bus or walk to a nice pizzeria. She also did not give us the guest card, which gives you access to public transport.

Really nothing to do within walking distance aside from the panoramic bridge. Restaurant was nice and open late. Hotel comfortable and clean.

We love the location. It’s right next to the bus stop. Staff was so friendly and our room was fantastic. Love that they provide electric fans, as it was particularly hot during our stay. Highly recommend staying here!

The property was nice, but definitely not a 4 star hotel. More like a 3 star. For some reason the first day after we arrived, they didn't clean the room. After we requested for them to clean the room the day after that, they just made the bed, and changed the towels. However, they didn't replenish the soap, nor the toilet paper, nor did they clean the toilet. The property has a lot of potential, but the staff really needs to get their act together.

Older property: musty smell as you enter the room and lighting is poor. Staff is friendly. Mountains with lake view in the morning is very refreshing.

The staff was exceptional! They offered dining at late hours of the evening, which was helpful when we got in late and there weren’t many options in the area. The bus comes right to the hotel and took about 40 minutes with stops to get to Interlaken. We couldn’t get any bikes from the property and there weren’t any bike rental shops in the area so we did have to travel by bus to go on adventures around the area.

The hotel was very nice. The room was very large and had a balcony with a view of the lake. The room had a coffee maker, coffee, creamer, safe. The bathroom had 6 towels (there were two of us staying there), face tissue and soap. Front desk personnel was very friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent hotel to stay when visiting the mountain range in Switzerland.

Hotel is right next to bus stop that goes to Thun, which is perfect if you need the convenience of travel. Staff is very friendly and assisted me when they couldn’t find my booking or work the safe. I dock a couple of stars because the room is slightly dated (no free outlets to plug into next to the beds) and there isn’t someone always at the front desk to help (but perhaps because I went off season). This place gets the job done for a night, and the views from the patio/balcony are just lovely!

It is always hard to tell what a hotel is Actually like from pics, but this hotel was a delightful surprise that exceeded our expectations. The views really do look like their promo pics - direct frontal view of snowy peaks. The family room was a good large size, as was the bathroom (rare in Europe!). Staff was flawlessly nice, helpful & professional, good breakfast, serviceable onsite restaurant, and best of all - Gorgeous friendly house cat who lavishes affection on all guests :) We'd definitely stay again.

Located in quiet hilltop village with magnificent view overlooking lake. Rooms clean and spacious. Restaurant menu limited but food well prepared. Best of all, staff were pleasant and accommodating. A pleasant respite from our Swiss travels.

I would like to know who rated this hotel at 4 stars? This is so misleading I passed over so many hotels that are 3 stars and I’m sure they will be better than this one because of the false rating. First thing you can’t sleep here because of the church bells that ring every hour, every half an hour and every 15 mins even after midnight. 2) there is no air conditioning we went in mid September and the room was so hot and we couldn’t open the windows because of the mosquitoes. 3) location wise it is very inconvenient and far from the main train stations, so be prepared to take a bus that comes hourly to go to interlaken Ost or Thun train stations, the bus ride is 55 mins with another bus change 4) every time we went down to have breakfast and we went early at 8 or before they were always out of everything and they blamed it on a group of tourists who ate and finished everything in the buffet. They should have prepared enough amount to everybody staying at the hotel 5) they didn’t refill any shampoo or soap 6) the only one good thing I liked about this place is the view which I couldn’t enjoy because the room was so hot so we couldn’t stay in our room to enjoy the view

We love the property, but it was so hot even though we were up high. We asked for a fan, but they didn't have one or A/C

Very disappointed. They advertise as a 4-start hotel but it is 2-starts at best. No A/C I could not sleep at night. Very dirty and uncomfortable.

DO NOT Stay at this property if you want to SLEEP! When I booked this I knew it had a bell tower close by. I had no idea the bell tower chimed ALL night long. Plus it has a bus stop across the street from the hotel. Plus the restaurant is below so you get the noise from all of that. ON top of that they had a festival going that weekend down the street you could hear it with the windows shut. It went all night long. Then the drunks would come to the bus stop all night until 4:00-5:00 am. I complained at the front desk they did nothing to compensate us just apologize. Supposed to be family run never saw the owner. The front desk person worked at the front desk also worked in the restaurant. We ate one night in the restaurant. I asked for a glass of tap water. They charged me for a glass of tap water after all the problems we had. The morning after we had no sleep I complained and she said she had no idea what was going on down the street. That afternoon they said it was a festival and would be going on again that night. It happens every year at this time. I told them they should not book people staying in this hotel if they want to sleep or at least tell them it is going on when they book it. the next morning when we checked out I complained again. They offered nothing. I told them they should have payed me to stay here not me pay them for no sleep for two nights.

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ I recently had the misfortune of staying at Bären Sigriswil. As someone who paid over 400 CHF for a peaceful night's sleep, I can confidently say that this hotel failed to deliver on its basic promise. From the moment I checked in, it became evident that noise would be an ongoing issue during my stay. The hotel's location seemed to be a magnet for all things noisy. First and foremost, the walls of the hotel seemed to have paper-thin insulation, as I could hear every conversation and commotion taking place in the adjacent restaurant. The fact that the restaurant operated after 23:00 made matters even worse. Despite being exhausted, I was bombarded with the constant clamor of people chatting. To compound my frustration, the hotel's proximity to a nearby church became an additional source of annoyance. Instead of waking up to a peaceful morning you take part in the hit song bells of Nother Dame 🔔🔔🔔 I would strongly advise anyone seeking a peaceful stay to look elsewhere, as this hotel clearly fails to deliver on its promises of good night sleep.

The view was incredible. The staff was very friendly and fast. The laundry service was excellent. The water pressure and heat on the shower was the best I've experienced ever. It was advertised as a hotel room, but we got a suite with a kitchen, living room and balcony overlooking Lake Thun. (I don't know that'll always be the case, so call ahead). Sigriswil Panorama bridge is a 2 minute walk from here. The room came with a pass that gave us discounts to local attractions and included free bus fare. I would make a trip back just on account of this amazing hotel.

Best breakfast EVER. It was included for us and by far the best offerings we’ve ever had. The view in the breakfast room is breathtaking. We booked their small double room and still got a partial view, but they have so many beautiful room options. The only major downside (our fault) is that there is no where to eat after 9pm around here so eat before!!

the property was perfect for a family of three. The mountain/lake view was astonishing. There was a bus facility right from outside of the hotel which is super convenient to go about. I would totally recommend this to all.

It was disappointing overall. The bathroom was very outdated as was the room in general. The rooms had two lamps. So at night time, we had to take the shade off the lamp to even see. Very dismal.

Great place to stay and located close to many places

We enjoyed a two nights stay at the Baren Sigriswil hotel. We were upgraded to a suite (two large rooms) on the first floor, with a large terrace that offers great views of the Thun lake and the Niesen (pyramid shaped) mountain. Every room has a TV set, but strangely we could not find the same channels on the the two TV sets. In the lounge there is a Nespresso coffee machine; the two capsules that we have found on arrival were much apreciated. There was a great variety at breakfast with a choice of scrambled, or boiled eggs on offer.

Enjoyed my stay at the Baren Hotel. The room i had was very nice with a sitting area / kitchenette and a big balcony and amazing views.

Great views of Thun lake and good breakfast. Meanwhile, the price in low season is really worthwhile!

We combined a stay @ this family owned hotel / restaurant BAREN SIGRISWIL with a trip to the panoramic Sigriswil bridge which is a two minutes walk from the hotel. It was exciting crossing the 340 m long suspension bridge offering magnificent views of the famous Bernese Oberland peaks, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, as well as Lake Thun. Looking 182mt below we saw the bottom of Gummischlucht gorge with breath taking views. We were given two suites on the second floor with a view of the mountains and both these suites were clean and very spacious. Many rooms have a lake view. The shower cubicle is large (1mt x 1.5mt) and has a nice power shower which I used immediately after check-in and again in the morning. I had trouble understanding the language and getting any english TV channels and I suggest that the hotel provides some written instructions on accessing english channels. At 7am I went around to the reception and also to the breakfast restaurant looking for someone to assist me but there was no-one. Then, I resolved to getting news on the internet as the WiFi was good. When available, the few staff are quite helpful and the hotel provides an extensive breakfast buffet. Excellent peaceful location and breathtaking views all around.

The location was ok just 3 km up the Thon lake. We did not had a pleasant stay at the hotel since it is located in-front of a church which it’s clock is ringing every 15 minutes which will make the sleep difficult. Also our room was at the 4th floor which was not accessible by elevator, you need to take elevator to 3rd floor and then take the stairs to 4th floor.

This hotel has amazing views! All the staff was super friendly and accommodating to all our questions and needs. Only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.

This is a special hotel in an very beautiful part of the world. The people that work in this hotel are gems. The church across the street is majestic. If you don’t like the bells close the windows.

The hotel is at the top of the hill at the end of the busline. Some rooms have a lake view. The included buffet breakfast is very good. The rooms are only average size and seem expensive but everything is in Switzerland. Rooms have a coffee maker but no fridge or microwave. There is an elevator.

After first night they put same towel on heating and balcony rail. Next day they chand and put towel.for 2 people.only in Family room. Thought when I went to reception they provided. But I believe this should be teken care at houskEping time. 2. Room service at extra price. Limited menu. 3. No hot breakfast . 4. No side table around the bed and no power something around, so you need to put charger in kitchen or near dining . 5. Kitchen and room was not prepared for 4 people, like 3 glass, two te mugs , 2 towels etc. Etc. I will rate this hotel 10 for the chef, staff and their warm welcome and response to queries. Excellent location next to the hanging bridge next to Lake Thun. Nice staff, rich and varied breakfast. We were in a suite with a balcony and a bathtub in the bedroom. Large and comfortable shower. There was also an elevator. The only drawback - no air conditioning and the days were warmer than usual. Highly recommended!

We had a booking for 2 nights at thos hotel which had been paid and confirmed months in advance but when we arrived we where told they didn't have our booking on the system and they didn't have a room for us. The receptionist checked online for other rooms in the area but as everywhere was fully booked he asked us to call Booking.com and then he basically ran off and left us having to try find a new hotel at 9pm at night and never came back to check that we where ok or had found a new place. Luckily Booking.com was very helpful and we were put in a new hotel and they compensated us for the difference but it's by far the worst hotel experience we've had and have never experienced anything like this before. Would never recommend this hotel and would advise anyone booking here to check out other places to avoid showing up and being told they don't have the room you've prepaid. Absolutely disappointing.

Room was very small and looking at cemetery. Was not very pleasant to stay in such a room.

The Baeren's location is great: right in the center of Sigriswil, a lovely resort town. The hotel offers a typical Swiss buffet breakfast included with the room, and also features a cozy Stuebli (bar/lounge) and restaurant. Unfortunately, our visit this year (2019) was not as pleasant as in some past years (we are repeat visitors, and have been familiar with the property in the early 1980s). When we visited the weather was quite hot, and the facility has no air conditioning. The level of service has declined somewhat, which is noticeable with the housekeeping and service in the Stuebli.

Really enjoyed our stay. This is a lovely place. We especially appreciated Andrea who greeted and assisted us at the outdoor restaurant, at the front desk, and at breakfast. What a hard worker!

Clean and comfortable hotel. Clearly orientated around ski season. Mid summer, the lack of air conditioning was noticeable. There was a small fan provided. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is located in a beautiful town of Sigriswil. If using public transport it is a bit of a hassle to reach the hotel. We had to catch a bus from Thun station which ran every 30 minutes or so. You won't find anyone at the reception invariably, but they have kept a bill for notifying them. The check-in was quick. The lady at the reception was extremely helpful and even let us know about interesting and beautiful spots nearby. We were given a Junior suite on the second floor. The suite was kept spotless and had 2 balconies with amazing views of lake Thun & the mountains. Breakfast was good.

We stayed there in suite that accommodates 4 people. The hotel is in a beautiful little town. They have a restaurant right there, but not much for vegetarians. The room was very nice, however there is a church bell that rings on the hour and half hour into the night and starts early morning. The night manager was very good. She proved us with fans... It was hot when we visited. Since we had to leave early, she even delivered breakfast items the previous evening. Nice touch. But the church bells are a non starter, if you want to rest.

Hotel advertise fitness and spa centee which we found out upon arrival that it was not included in the nightly price. Appreciated that the hotel provided free bus fare card, but it was not offered even after asking a out transportation and the bus schedule - ww had to specifically ask for it. Food was great feom the restaurant. Hotel was grungy for a 4 stat hotel...at best i would rate it 2.5

Beautiful views and a great place to walk around the local cemetery, school and high walking bridge. The hotel had large balcony with great views, beds were very plush and nice. Breakfast was good. I would stay here again.

This is a nice Hotel situated a bit out of the way but with fantastic views of lake Thun. Excellent breakfast of choices and dinner is the best! Excellent friendly staff. The rooms are lovely nice quiet wake up with a beautiful views of the mountains.

We LOVED staying at Baeren Sigriswil! The room was cozy but large. The views were unbelievable and the village was just too cute. The staff was incredibly helpful and professional. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. The variety of food and drinks available made for the perfect start to the day. The restaurant downstairs was delicious and in the three days we ate there, we were never disappointed. With a bus stop right outside, transportation to other local villages and attractions was easy. I would recommend this location to anyone planning a trip to the Interlaken/Thun area!

Nothing was explained at check in. We wanted to us the hot tub, didn’t know where it was. The ladies the next morning helped but the guy at the reception desk was not helpful at all. He literally said “here is your key, breakfast is at 7:30.” The view and the room is great. I’f you’re not looking for customer service and just a great room and view, this is a good place to be.

Incredible room, with amazing views over Lake Thun. Staff were attentive and very friendly. We weren't able to enjoy the Jacuzzi in our room as it was broken but we still had a bath which was nice.

The location is wonderful. The balcony and views were amazing! The attention to detail, such as blankets on the outdoor patio chairs was a nice welcome touch. My only complaints were the rooms had very thin walls and while the breakfast was nice, the woman over it was rude.

We booked a 6 night stay and when we expressed disappointment with sketchy wifi management was unconcerned and blamed it on our phones (BOTH), then we got locked out one night from the hotel lobby (not manned and no one onsight) and our room, it took an hour to get someone to drive in from another town to reprogram our room keys, the next day she let us know how inconvenient that was for her, not making this up. We paid with points so there is not much we can do to get a refund and they have offered us a dinner for our inconvenience. 6 night stay, wifi still not reliable, nothing further offered, they act like we are a nuisance. So much for their hospitality. Don't stay here, choose another place!

This is a nice Hotel situated a bit out of the way but with fantastic views of lake Thun. good food and friendly staff. The rooms are a bit basic for a 4 star Hotel but this is often the Swiss norm. Breakfast was good, nice quiet spot to eat and wake up. Price was however a bit high for what was offered, I would lower it by about 30 to 40 franks.

We arrived for a one night stay last week. Upon arrival it took three attempts to get someone to come down and check us in, even though we arrived during the check in time frame. We booked a junior suite. The view was perfect however no air-con made a 25+ degree temperature unbearable. The room had a kitchen installed however everything was there for display only, including the fridge. Having the window open overnight was also impossible given that the church bells rang on the hour throughout the night. Breakfast was a disappointment. Very small selection and the scrambled eggs tasted of fish. The restaurant and bar were both closed so clearly parched when we walked in the building we weren't able to get a drink apart from tap water, as i am caffine intollerant. Finally we only saw two members of staff who were very scarcely seen and didn't appear to engage with customers. All in all i wouldn't visit this hotel again based on this experience.

The location was so great but the hotel was about 2 stars only and i had to cancel my booking and go for another hotel, number of staff were about 5 and the manager was always way due to inconvenient reason.

Took three attempts to get someone to come check us in. Restaurant and bar were closed and after a 6 hour drive we were dying for something to drink. We had a junior suite overlooking the mountains. There was a kitchen that was for demonstration purposes only, not even a working fridge. No air con so in 25+ degree heat the room was too hot. The hotel is across from the village church which insists on bell ringing on the hour throughout the night so unless you’re a heavy sleeper you can’t leave the window open. Breakfast was also disappointing. No staff presence and the scrambled eggs were fishy. All in all ther is potential but significant improvements are required.

Easily the best hotel we stayed at over the course of our trip in Europe. The hotel staff was very friendly and offered fantastic service throughout our stay. The view from the hotel beautifully overlooks the lake and mountains. The hotel is also in a convenient location, with the bus stop just outside. The restaurant is also a lovely place to have dinner at while viewing the Swiss countryside. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone needing to stay in the area, it was amazing.
