Unreal food and great location!

The breakfast was substantial and just what we needed for a robust day's trekking

The location is perfect for exploring the Western side of the Lake District. Some of the walks I did were right out of the door so happy with that. My room had everything I needed and whilst it was only a single, it was ideal for me and my dog. The meals are first class and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. I’d have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and look forward to a return visit.

This is an Inn with a traditional Lakeland feel. The staff were friendly and efficient. Dinner was excellent with the usual (but perfect) pub grub but also some unusual choices which were very good too - sometimes a little ‘hit & miss’ in pubs! The room was very comfy and offered everything we needed.

I was there as I was working in the area, so didn't explore the surroundings very much, but it seemed to be a lovely location. The room was great for my needs, the breakfast was great and the staff were friendly and efficient.

The room was spacious and well equipped. Beautiful location that you can do a lot of exploring from. The food was great and the bar/garden had a great atmosphere.

Superb location with lovely gardens including a children’s play area and 5 a side pitch as well as plenty of the usual outside seating. If this makes it sound a bit noisy for a peaceful stay it was not. We stayed on a Saturday night and the pub was heaving (definitely book dinner ahead, there were no vacancies for walk ins) but still efficient and welcoming. Dogs very welcome. Meals huge, think carefully before ordering a starter! Breakfast offered a lot of variety and was excellent quality. Would recommend rooms in annex since I suspect those in the main building could be noisy closer to the bar.

Not much. Service for food was slow, particularly for breakfast. I gather food is cooked to order. We weren’t in any hurry but our one course breakfast took over an hour from start to finish.

Had a lovely experience at Bower House Inn, super location, very good breakfast , great staff and I slept very well, very good bed! Thank you, I will be back.

Cozy, quaint spot. Feels very historic. Rooms a bit small and dated but that was fine. 10/10 amazing staff, easy parking, gorgeous location. The food was 11/10 good!

The food was 10/10 I really enjoyed every single meal, the customer service was amazing. I had a puncture and they were fast at helping me fix my problem.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bower House Inn, the staff were very friendly, the food was delicious, the location was beautiful and surrounded by nature. Our destination was Scafell Pike. We have very fond memories of this trip.

Great staff. Very comfortable room with a great view. Breakfast was superb and the food each night in the restaurant was excellent. The menu is great with so much choice. You need to book ahead for the rest as it is always busy. Large car park so no problems parking. The inn is about 25 minutes drive from Wasdale Head for climbing Scafell Pike or swimming at Wast Water. It’s our second visit and we will definitely visit again.

The room was very clean and tidy. The bed was super comfy and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was also excellent with decent options for different dietary needs.

The shower was terrible. The only negative in an otherwise fantastic stay..

A very special place. The drive from the Kendal direction is not to be missed, spectacular views. Lovely beer garden with views of the surrounding hills. Excellent food, the lamb suet pudding especially. Comfortable and clean rooms, our family room was spacious with a good bathroom and large bathtub. Breakfast was good quality. Staff and punters were friendly and the place had a very homely and comfortable vibe. We'll be returning!

Tolles und sehr engagiertes Personal! Sehr freundliche Atmosphäre. Das Bower House Inn liegt abseits des Mainstreams im Lake District National Park, daher ist es sehr ruhig und genau richtig, um sich entspannen zu können! Gutes Essen!!

The room was so hot I struggled to sleep even witht he window open and the fan on, I think the old building just traps the heat. Which isn't the hotels fault at all but it made for a very sweaty stay!

Die Zimmer waren sehr renovierungsbedűrftig und nicht sehr sauber (Spinnweben an der Decke). In Summe passt das zwar zum rustikalen Gesamteindruck, etwas moderner würde allerdings auch nicht schaden.

Room was clean and spacious - bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good quality and delicious. Staff were super friendly. Pub/Bar was super busy which says it all. We had booked a table for dinner and food was delicious. Beer garden was lovely - sadly is rained throughout our stay so didn't get to use it.

Menu has a good range of gluten free options. Unfortunately only one of them had no chilli in it. As we were eating more than one night, staff did their best to remove chilli dressing from another. That small change would make a big difference.

Mattress was shocking ! Lol. I thought it was a water bed to begin with. Would not put me off staying and I should have mentioned, but arrived later, they had a function on and the staff were lovely.

If you want to stay in Eskdale there are relatively few options. Like many of the guests, I was there to climb Scafell Pike, so it's pretty well situated. If you stay here then you probably want to count on eating breakfast and dinner at the Bower House. The food is top quality with a wide selection and good sized helpings. The bar is well stocked with top quality draught beers including their own Bower House bitter. The staff are warm and welcoming. They do their very best to help out and are happy to offer information about the surrounding area.

Nothing much to comment on here. I stayed in the barn, which is across the car park entrance drive from the main building. The water pressure in the shower was very, very low. There was a poster on the wall that joked about flooding the bathroom! Lake District irony! I only wish I had some photos to add but after a day hiking I was too tired to remember to take some!

Nothing at all really. No table check during the meal and had to go to the bar to get drinks while eating but didn’t spoil anything. They were exceptionally busy. Bar service was very quick so no real issue for me.

The door to our room (room 2) rattle most of the night with people shutting and locking their doors. I think you need to look at a different locking system for the doors and well. It’s a bit difficult and fidgety when try to unlock and lock the door

It was close to scafell pike, it was one of the few places with an EV charger. Breakfast options were plentiful and it was so quiet. They served the best fish pie I’ve ever eaten in the restaurant after a long drive!

In a remote place, there was only 1 EV charger. With the growing population of electric cars, an additional charger would be very beneficial. Very little to dislike!!

Beautiful location, characterful building with a stunning beer garden. 2nd time we’ve stayed here and will keep returning. The staff are always lovely and attentive, the food is amazing and good value. We love that it’s dog friendly too. Both stays we have been blessed with gorgeous weather so have thoroughly enjoyed the beer garden in all its glory.

The location is beautiful and so close to Wast Water Lake which was so convenient. The grounds were so pretty and the view out of our bedroom's window was lovely. The bedrooms are nice and simple. It was clean and the bed was really comfortable. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and had the breakfast. Both meals were lovely and everyone that we were served by during our stay was lovely.

You can hear others in their rooms occasionally. It didn't bother us personally as it wasn't intrusive but I can see that some people wouldn't find it ideal.

The room was tiny, not clean enough, and the sound insulation was awful — every noise from the hallway and neighboring rooms came straight through, making it nearly impossible to sleep properly.

Breakfast and dinner were great. The Bower House team were all really lovely. It felt like being welcomed at our own local. Even offered us a packed lunch when we mentioned we needed to check out before breakfast. Great location for climbing Scarfell from Wasdale. We will return.

The Bower House Inn is a lovely traditional Lake District Pub/Hotel located in a beautiful location. It has lots of character. The pub is bustling and has a good variety of food and drink. The food is excellent at the Inn and both breakfast and dinner were delicious and plentiful. The bed in the room was comfortable.

The room we had (Buttermere) was clean but in need of a refresh as it was dreary and marked, and not that inviting. A room where you walk in and say 'Oh, that's ok' with a disappointed tone!

Great staff, food and atmosphere

We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful rural location, just a short distance from Scafell Pike with plenty of lovely walks nearby. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and very well presented. We brought our golden retriever along, and he absolutely loved the large outdoor space—it was perfect for him to explore. The food in the restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced, and breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. What really made our stay special was the staff—everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout. We would definitely stay here again when we return to the area.
