Reviewed Aug 23, 2026I will check this off my list as one of the best experiences of my life! We were greeted by our host when we arrived and then taken to our room/chalet. They even blocked out the other chalet for us to be private! The whole time, you feel special. The game drive was the best, with informative commentary, and you could feel the special bond the owner has with his animals. Something that really gets lost with bigger game lodges. The lapa was great, and we spent a night under the stars! I would highly recommend Indalu Game Reserve, and I wish them all the best with their future plans!

Every detail of the property reflects care and authenticity. The accommodation is beautiful, comfortable, peaceful, and perfectly integrated into its natural surroundings. Waking up to the sounds of nature and spending time in such an environment was a privilege.
Our heartfelt thanks go to Gerhard and his wife for creating such a remarkable place. Their dedication to protecting wildlife and preserving the environment is genuinely inspiring. What they are doing goes far beyond managing a beautiful reserve—it is a meaningful contribution to humanity and to future generations. Their love for nature is reflected in everything they do.
To future guests, my advice is simple: listen carefully to the instructions and follow them. They are there to protect both you and the animals, and by respecting them, you will enjoy one of the most memorable experiences of your life.
One of the absolute highlights was walking alongside the elephants and having the opportunity to feed them. It was an emotional, humbling, and truly magical experience that we will remember forever.
Thank you, Gerhard and your wonderful team, for giving us memories that will stay with us for a lifetime. We sincerely hope to return again one day.
A few helpful tips for future guests:
The lodge is powered by solar energy, which is something I truly admired. I encourage all guests to use electricity responsibly—not because it is a limitation, but because it reflects the owners’ genuine commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment. In my opinion, this is a feature that makes the experience even more special.
Also, it is important to keep the bedroom doors and the kitchen door closed, especially when they are not in use. This is simply part of staying in a true wildlife reserve and helps prevent reptiles or other small wildlife from entering the accommodation.
Embracing these simple guidelines allows you to enjoy an authentic safari experience while respecting the beautiful natural environment that makes Indalu Game Reserve so unique.

This place is out of this world! So quiet, so peaceful, so magical! An amazing composition of nature, wildlife and hospitality. The elephant walk was unbelievable! These huge animals are so friendly and calming. The guide who drove us around, was knowledgeable and entertaining. The elephant keepers were experienced rangers. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Reviewed Jun 10, 2026Die Lage der Bungalows mitten im Nirgendwo war unbeschreiblich schön. Die Tiere kommen direkt an die Hütten. Wir waren ganz allein da, die Küche ist mit allem nötigen ausgestattet, Grill, Holzkohle und Feuerholz waren vorhanden, alles andere haben wir vorher in Riverdale eingekauft. Sehr komfortable Bungalows mit Gasheizung . Arina und Gerhard sind hervorragende Gastgeber. Unser Highlight war der Elefantwalk mit Bakari.

Reviewed Apr 18, 2026Die Unterkunft war wirklich etwas Besonderes. Sehr privat mit fantastischer Sicht auf verschiedene Tiere in der Nähe, direkt vor der Tür. Die Unterkunft war sehr sauber und einladend. Arina war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und die Tour mit Hanro hat viel Spaß gemacht. Gerne empfehlen wir den Aufenthalt weiter!

Reviewed Apr 3, 2026Eine einmalige Erfahrung, mitten im Reserve und das zwei Tage und Nächte komplett allein. Umgeben nur von Tieren und der Natur. Wann hat man das als Mitteleuropäer schon mal. Gamedrive und Begegnung mit den beiden Elefanten muss man einmal mitgemacht haben.

Dieses Mal haben wir unsere beiden Mädchen 26 und 29 mitgenommen . Arina und Gerhard und Ihre Jungs sind so perfekte Gastgeber, wie man sie selten erlebt. Ich arbeite für den größten Reiseanbieter in Deutschland und kann diese Unterkunft zu 100% weiter empfehlen.

Reviewed Mar 24, 2026Es war ein unvergleichliches Erlebnis. Die Unterkunft lag direkt an einer riesigen offenen Fläche, an der immer wieder verschiedene Tiere zu beobachten waren Der Gang mit den Elefanten hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen. Die die Safari war äußerst kenntnisreich begleitet.

Reviewed Mar 22, 2026Wunderbares Chalet mitten im Reservat. Das Auto lässt man an der Rezeption und wird dann im Jeep zum Chalet gebracht. Dort sehr gute Tier- und Vogelbeobachtung möglich. Sunset Drive is a must. Wir haben den Aufenthalt genossen und können das Indalu Game Reserve nur weiter empfehlen.

Reviewed Mar 14, 2026Es war ein einmaliges Erlebnis völlig abgeschieden und abgeschirmt von etwaigen Ablenkungen ganz allein in der Wildnis zu übernachten . Wir haben gegrillt und anschließend ein Lagerfeuer unter dem sternenklaren tief schwarzen Himmel über uns genossen. Nur umgeben von den Geräuschen der Natur und einem Straußenweibchen, das uns in der Nähe unserer Unterkunft besucht hat . Wir waren sehr froh, hier übernachtet zu haben und der Aufenthalt wird uns unvergessen bleiben. Am Nachmittag zuvor hatten wir noch mit einem super netten Guide an einem Game Drive teilgenommen , was auch sehr beeindruckend war.
Wir können die Unterkunft nur wärmstens empfehlen , es ist eine unvergleichbare Erfahrung.
Es war alles super schön und die Gastgeber sehr nett. Sein Auto kann man an der Rezeption abstellen und wird zur Unterkunft ca. 3 km entfernt nach unten gefahren , da die Straße sehr holprig ist . Vor Ankunft sollte man noch fürs Frühstück und Abendessen einkaufen . Um neun Uhr morgens wird man wieder abgeholt und zurück zum Auto gebracht .

Reviewed Feb 11, 2026Wir waren ganz allein inmitten einer großen Game Farm mit gelegentlichem Besuch der Tiere wie Strauße, Impala, Giraffen, Zebras. Wunderschöne Unterkunft mit eigener Küchenhütte. Am Abend das Lagerfeuer, einfach traumhaft.
Die Farm ist ein Familienbetrieb, mit viel Liebe und Fachwissen betrieben. Sehr zu empfehlen ist auch der Sunset Game Drive.

Reviewed Jan 11, 2026Das persönliche Erlebnis . Der Owner selbst ist mit uns durch sein Reserve gefahren und hat mit uns seine Visionen geteilt . Die Unterkunft war sehr komfortabel. Wir waren im Vorjahr in einem großen Gamereserve , das war auch sehr nett , aber hier hat uns besonders die persönliche Atmosphäre sehr gefallen . Und in unserer Unterkunft waren wir ganz alleine und die Tiere haben uns besucht.
Eigentlich nur eines , es war sehr heiß und es gab keine Klimaanlage.

Reviewed Oct 20, 2025Die Unterkunft liegt sehr idyllisch mitten im Tiergebiet. Man kann dort grillen oder bei schlechtem Wetter in der Küche sich was kochen. Küche ist mit allem ausgestattet was man braucht. Die Zimmer sind liebevoll im afrikanischen Stil gestaltet. Morgens kamen uns Impalas besuchen. Die Kinder waren begeistert. Game Drive am frühen Abend und Elefant Walk haben uns auch sehr gut gefallen. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Reviewed Oct 7, 2025Dieses Reserve ist wirklich ein besonderer Ort. Man wohnt mitten drin umgeben von freilaufenden Tieren. Das Chalet ist sehr sauber und gemütlich. Sowohl das Chalet, als auch die Küche sind perfekt ausgestattet. Der Elephant-Walk und die Safari sind absolut empfehlenswert. Auch die Tierpfleger und Besitzer sind sehr nett und bemüht.

Reviewed Dec 20, 2024An amazing experience to be surrounded by nature, with only the birds,buck, ostriches,giraffes and rhinos as neighbours. Chalet is comfortable and beautiful and the kitchen was excellent, has everything you may need (oil,salt,pepper,tea,coffee,water), you only have to bring food. Sitting by the fire in the evening was the best way to end the day. We also did the elephant walk (highly recommended!!) and the game drive. Both wonderful.

Reviewed Sep 15, 2024Loved that we were out in nature. The decor was amazing, beds very comfortable. The separate kitchen had all we needed. Able to access wifi from room but better in the kitchen. Enjoyed the drive to our accommodation on the property then had an awesome game drive to admire the animals on the reserve. I also enjoyed browsing and purchasing items from their little gift shop.

Reviewed Jul 22, 2024I loved the remote location and the setup of the cottages. The hosts were very helpful and really made our stay extra special. It is self-catering but they provide a lot of basics and would assist if you needed anything else.
I really have no complaints. You can't drive further than the reception with your own car if you don't have a 4x4 but you don't need your car so I had no problem with that and the hosts can always be contacted from the sight in case you needed anything.

Reviewed Apr 2, 2024Great family-run private game reserve. Arena, Gerhard and Hanro make you really feel welcome. The chalets offer all you need and the extra kitchen house makes it very practical. Also firewood and charcoal are already there. All you need is the food and drinks (water is also there). Elephant walk and game drive are special, Happy to come back when the lions are there.
Nothing to complain about. It is, of course not a huge game reserve and some animals are still missing, but the experience is great nevertheless

The game drive we did with Hanro was lovely and it was inspiring to see the family's dedication to the veldt and game. We booked for an overnight stay and with only two lodges on the site we had the whole place to ourselves. The facilities in the lodges and the separate kitchen were excellent. One has to self-cater and we did a braai. The highlight was spending the evening sitting in front of the fire, under the stars, all quiet and feeling part of nature - a truly unique and magical experience.

We loved sitting in the Brai area watching the Impalas tip toe to the water hole.

Reviewed Dec 30, 2023We did the elephant walk and interaction and the the game drive, both of which were fabulous. We then stayed the night and had an awesome experience. There are only 2 lodges, 1 of which was unoccupied so we were the only guests using the facilities and outside areas. Firewood is available so it was wonderful to sit by the fire, look at the stars, fully enjoy the experience and immerse ourselves in the surroundings, with just the sounds of animals and birds. The room is very comfortable and the large kitchen (in a separate building) is fully equipped. We woke in the morning to find 2 giraffes right next to our lodge, which was simply magical. Also, the hosts were very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. I'm so glad that we decided to stay here.

This is a great "bush" experience. We had such a peaceful evening around the fire. The game drive in the late afternoon was also worth it. The kitchen has everything you need. Beds are comfortable. The owners love their animals which is good to see.
I think the elephant walk and feeding caters more for Europeans, also money-wise. I found it expensive for those on a South African middle-class salary. Also note that in this game reserve the animals are half-way tame. I definitely would not call this a zoo-experience, but neither is it a pure wildlife-experience as the animals have been trained or conditioned to do things with and around humans. Guests witness or take part in feeding the animals. This is not a criticism, just an observation. For my European guests this proximity to the animals made it all very exciting.

Reviewed Jan 10, 2023the property was secluded and well kitted out, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean and we appreciated the soaps and other toiletries provided. Solar lights were provided for the outside during the evenings when we used the fire pit and bbq. An extra bonus was waking up to large game animals in the morning and we got to feed sweet birds in the morning. The safari drives were incredible, we saw giraffes, elephants, and other large animals roaming around free and happy in their environment. We did the elephant walk with 2 very educational guides, that was an experience we will never forget, walking next to them, stroking them, feeding them and after having photos taken with them. Overall, a must visit. We highly recommend visiting this little slice of heaven!
The bats in the 2nd cottage! As we were overseas visitors, we couldn’t use our data and there was no Wi-Fi which is fine for adults but not teenagers. Although we stayed over new Year’s and would have liked to WhatsApp our friends and family.Maybe provide a jacuzzi as it got very hot there and the river has dried up.

The 2 guest houses are quite deep in the park so its very offside and best to enjoy nature and observe animals without any distractions. Big thanks also to the hosts & staff who were very guestfriendly and made our stay very pleasant. This is your pick, when you like beeing for yourself and in a not overcrowded reserve.
All good, but you have to be aware that the accomondation is in the outback and you will be for yourself most of the time. So bring enough wine& food ;)

Reviewed Sep 17, 2022From the moment we arrived to the moment we left everything was perfect. We stayed in the Leopard Lodge which was amazing with all the facilities you need and a great outdoor space to sit and watch the wildlife and stars at night, we even had the Giraffes as our neighbours for part of our stay. Whilst there we did the Elephant walk and interaction which was very informative and a truly memorable experience. The sunset game drive was very relaxed and unhurried. I would certainly recommend both of these activities. All staff we came into contact with were great and made us feel at home and freely answered any questions we had with a great deal of knowledge. We are already planning a return trip as soon as we can.
I honestly cannot fault our stay or experience in any way
