Room large and well equipped. Lots of parking. Staff generally friendly (even staff better than Sunday morning team!) Food excellent, well prepared and tasty.
Room was close to the kitchen and above the vent system, so pretty noisy at times. Not an issue when kitchen closed. Kitchen staff came in early on Sunday and played loud music whilst preparing breakfast. Water gurgling noise (i.e. radiator pipes)
Everything, from the staff to sitting in the garden with a beer and dinner.
Nothing. Apart from missing James by a day, I saw the alfa wheels he dropped off. Maybe next time, James, and I'll buy you a pint.
Beautiful pub in a lovely village location, nestling among fields. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was excellent.
Excellent breakfast and very nice room and lovely helpful staff.
Everything! From start to finish, the experience was the best. Food, drink, room, facilities, location, staff were all brilliant!
Nothing to not like!
Typically rural Wiltshire traditional hospitality

Staff friendly, food was good and bed comfortable
Set in a quiet village location. The pub is really well maintained and has lovely character. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food was great. Beautiful, clean and well designed room . The bed was really clean and comfortable and loved the old features. Loved having the tea and coffee facilities and fridge.
Would have liked a shower but I can see why our room couldn’t have one. Maybe some background music in the garden to add some ambience.
Beautiful setting with a fabulous menu, some of the best food I've ever had. Management and Staff are welcoming, professional and inviting. The rooms are very clean and homely with plenty of modern and well maintained facilities.
Cannot fault the Royal Oak, perfect place to stay and eat.
VERY GOOD BREAKFAST LOVELY LOCATION
BIT NOISY IN THE MORNING ON 2ND AUGUST -SOUNDED LIKE A BAND PRACTISING
Fantastic place to stay couldn't find any fault food was fantastic
The staff were so welcoming and helpful even though we arrived early to drop off our bags and it was such a hot day! The room was delightful, spacious, with thoughtful touches like a tiny fridge and fresh milk, and fan for helping with the 35 degree heat. We would happily return: it was relaxed yet super efficient.
Very comfortable in every aspect, great staff, very goodbed and a huge room and bathroom. Lovely shower with heaps of hot water and pressure.
Fantastic breakfast and let us check in early.

This is a lovely property especially the oak trim. Being thatched too hot in this heat wave maybe overtime it will be necessary to have some aircon
Very nice cosy pup friendly staff and food in restaurant very good
The room we were in was above the kitchen and noisy all night after the pub shut with maybe an air conditioning unit running so not a lot of sleep definitely would refuse the if we return
Friendly welcome - lovely setting- very comfortable room- lovely food
Lovely surprise for a hotel selected as a stopover en route from Cornwall to Kent. Turned out to be lovely mini break. I would come back and stay longer. Great service. Lovely very spacious and characterful room. Food was absolutely excellent in the evening. Atmosphere very convivial.
Nothing but it should be noted that the room we had was up an extra flight of stairs. Not too bad though.
Location and facilities.
All good.
Staff were outstanding
We stayed here 2 times on our UK holiday as we enjoyed our stay so much on the 1st time. Loved the Pub, the fabulous food and the great atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We hope to stay again on our next trip.

Really nice place to stay or visit with one of the most pleasant people I've ever interacted with.
Well we’ve been before and will def go again…

Fantastic food and drink. We had dinner, breakfast and lunch there. Every dish was superb. Efficient and friendly staff, a clean and comfortable bedroom, a lovely location and a beautiful village, we had a very relaxing time. Will definitely come back again!

Old world charm and delightful location

Breakfast delicious Great staff very helpful
The fact they put service charge on drinks from bar
Lovely location.. Food was excellent, and a traditional, Quintessential English Country Pub.. The Oak conservatory is lovely..
Lovely location, nice room with the exception that it was a 30degree day & on arrival the heated towel rail was on in the bathroom & made the room super hot. Food was really really good 5* 6 x different dishes for dinner & all executed very well, compliments to whoever was in the kitchen that night! Would I return: of course a great pub.
The server at dinner delivered our food & no cutlery so I had to go back inside to request some, poor waitressing, tables left for 2 hours with glasses etc on again the waitress went back inside empty handed, basic easy to fix stuff she needed guidance & training.
Everything was perfect - super dog-friendly, great food, comfortable rooms. Highly recommended!
Good choice for breakfast Large room
The tasting menu was quite superb and breakfast was also delicious, particularly the porridge! We had an enjoyable stay. Nice room, not luxurious, and the bed was very comfortable with really good quality linen.
Lage
Etc. Kaltes Frühstück nach sehr langer Wartezeit.
Lovely room, quiet location, excellent food
Nothing
A warm welcome to this beautiful pub. Tasteful, quality furnishings throughout and my room was both huge and sumptuously appointed. Food was delicious and the staff were fantastic.
Couldn’t fault it.
Loved the Royal Oak Hotel. Everything about our stay there was exceptional. Food, the service nd the staff were amazing.
Not getting to meet James May as we re big fans
Bedroom was a nice size, clean and comfortable. Lovely outdoor seating area in the evening sun with a pint it was great. The food was lovely, a great haddock and chips, perfect crispy batter. Staff were really friendly, had a chat with them on the morning of our departure and they were lovely, genuine people.
The only real gripe I had was at dinner, we were given dessert menus but nobody came back to us to see if we wanted to order a dessert. We had wanted to order but waited so long we opted against and sought after the bill instead. This was only a small gripe and these things happen occasionally, the rest of the interaction with the staff was fine.
Great servive, friendly staff.
The atmosphere. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and it makes for a perfect British pub experience.
It’s the perfect little hotel with delightful food and staff. The burger is one of the best I’ve had. Anywhere in the world.
Friendly, very helpful staff. Thoughtfully restored and furnished heritage building. Great area for walking/hiking.
Beautiful pub/ hotel in a stunning, peaceful location. Excellent, friendly and approachable staff - many thanks to Grace and the team. Great food and drink. Room was fantastic and met all expectations.
Nothing of note. If staying for more than one night, my only advice to others would be to bring a mobile device charger with them as we could not find a USB port in the room (apologies if missed). Not a big deal and not at all surprising for an old property.
Lovely pub , friendly staff and as nice a room as you will find.
Fantastic food , staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious and clean. Can’t fault it.
Nothing.
I noticed there were safety features in the bathroom for the elderly and dos abled which I thought was exceptional.
Clean friendly staff
A bit pricey and didn’t like service charge I prefer to tip
Lovely pub in a very quiet location, good selection of drinks, and the food is great, Only stayed one night but will hopefully visit again
Lovely room.
The serving staff in the restaurant were lovely, the chap at the bar wasn’t over friendly, probably having a bad day.
The food was incredible, amazing selection for the evening meals and breakfast alike. The staff were incredible and very attentive, professionalism was in abundance. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with all facilities you could hope for. The building itself is a very idyllic location. Great space to chill out and relax.
As far as I'm concerned nothing could have been better. Every need was met.
Very old pub bought up to standard to accommodate our needs.
The shower was a bit dirty and needs attention. There were cobwebs around the bedroom. It’s need a paint to be honest. It’s needed a bit of an upgrade. The bed was nice. The room was noisy due to a heater duct outside our window.
Lovely rooms; good food; friendly staff. I have stayed before and will return again.
The quality of food and service and willingness of the staff was outstanding. A big thank you to Chris and the Team
The Royal Oak in Swallowcliffe delivers an experience that is both refined and deeply welcoming. Its beautifully restored interiors create a sense of understated luxury, while the kitchen consistently produces dishes that showcase local ingredients with real skill. Rooms are comfortable and characterful, and the service is quietly excellent throughout. Whether visiting for a weekend escape or a longer stay, the Royal Oak offers a memorable blend of comfort, quality, and rural tranquillity.

Enjoyed the seating area in front of the fire in the bar-a lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Nothing.
Place, staff, easy parking and excellent presentation of food, taste and overall experience
Nothing. Our own fault didn't plan enough time to walk around the area. But stonehenge was only 20 + minutes away
Excellent breakfast, good parking, nicely decorated. We travelled in Winter and our room was warm over the kitchen (we opened the small window) - but noted there was no air conditioning in room.
The atmosphere and the quaintness of the pub... and quirky things we liked
Delicious food, delightful staff, large and comfortable rooms, in a beautiful rural setting. A thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Royal Oak.
